I had only heard negative about pit bulls

until I heard Rachael Ray talk about hers. With a personality like hers how can she have a bad dog? I do have a new respect for them now, but I agree that I would want to do some research on their "family". I personally prefer tiny little dogs that don't shed. Do pit bulls shed? I posted below that we had a boxer and the shedding was unbelievable but that is not the reason we no longer have her.

Let's get to know pit bulls...sm
A lot of people on here I am sure do not own a pit bull. It is hard to know the breed when you aren't around them on a day to day basis. I would just like to share some traits of pit bulls.
Pits are robust. They are active and love to play. They are a smart breed of dog too. I guess you could say they are roughnecks. They will do anything to please their owners and want to be a big ole lap dog. Oh yeah they will and mine does (all 70 pounds) climb up in your lap wanting to be nurtured. LOL.
If I had to describe their personality I would say first of all contrary to all the media hype and hysteria of pits, the dogfighting community (by the way I do not condone dogfighting) did not breed pit bulls to be human aggressive. They wanted a dog they could work with in the fighting arena and not have to worry about these dogs attacking them or other people watching this sport. (which is unscrupulous but just trying to explain this is how they were bred). A lot of pit bulls are so happy on meeting owners friends they don't even know; that some people who get them worry they won't make a good guard dog because some happily greet strangers. The protective instinct a pit has usually won't surface until they are about a year old. I would say they want to be the center of attention. They are very self confident dogs.
I have to say pits can be funny. One reason is pits have some of the most expressive faces.
Sometimes though you may have a perfectly nice pup which will grow up to be mean because he was encouraged to be mean. Raised to be mean.
If pit bulls could choose their owners instead of the other way around then I would say a pit would choose an owner with high spirits and a joy of living. Good owners of pits are able to handle their dogs.
A pits character traits seem to be contradictory in that they are strong but sensitive; rowdy but gentle; outgoing but devoted; easily fired up but highly trainable; mischevious but sensible; energetic yet serene; peaceful but always alert. All these describe the pit bull.
How do you feel about pit bulls?
A year ago we adopted this amazingly sweet puppy from an animal rescue. Was told he was a golden retriever mix, they thought with Aussie. As he grew we just did not see the Aussie and in trying to figure out his breed, through the vet and some research found out is part pit. He is a lovely, sweet, gentle dog.
Here is the problem. Ohio has strict restrictions regarding pits; you have to carry extra liability, fenced yard, keep them in a pen, etc. Any incidents and the dog is destroyed. My dog is never outside unattended. If we aren't with him, he is tied. When loose we are always right there, and he listens well. He loves our cat and has never shown any aggression towards other people or animals. You should see him with kids and babies. Would melt your heart. My neighbor's Sheltie is meaner than my sweet baby, having bitten my kids several times, and they let him roam loose.
Now a representative Yates in Ohio is proposing a bill that all pit bulls or those suspected of being pit bulls be taken and euthanized. If this bill passes, the dog warden would have the right to issue a warrant and come and take your dog if it is suspected of being a pit. You can read about the law here:
http://www.animallawcoalition.com/breed-bans/article/524
Breed specific legislation is so amazingly stupid and closed minded. Any dog is capable of being vicious, it is just a matter of responsible ownership.
Pit Bulls, please read this!
I love dogs, and I don't really have an opinion about pits, because I never owned one. But, please everyone, read what happened in my town a few days ago. This lady was mauled by hers. Its at Greensburgdailynews.com. I was so scared after reading the details of this, and wonder what made him do this unspeakable thing!!
Unfortunately, pit bulls, dobermans
and german sheps have bad reputations but you must remember that it is not the dog itself who is bad - the owners make the dog that way. I have always owned dobermans and german sheps who were the sweetest dogs and got along with kids well. I never cropped my dobemans ears or tail and all dogs went to obedience school. It's a shame that these dogs have bad reputations just because of irresponsible owners. I equate it to children...you treat them bad and they will live up to that reputation.
abused pit bulls
Again I refer to the web site I have posted which gives statistics regarding pit bull ownership by criminals. I don't think it would be a leap of logic to suggest that if they are the #1 most abused dogs, it is because they are the #1 breed of dog owned by criminals. Of course I am not suggesting that you or blondie are criminals, but I would hope that you could at least admit that a large percentage of pit bulls are owned by those involved in drugs and other crimes, with the purpose of attacking and/or intimidating others in their criminal circle.
There are countless other breeds capable of providing the same companionship and loyalty and unconditional love as a pit bull, but without the strength and aggression to kill human beings.
Did you read on the web site about the 24-year-old woman who was killed in her own bed by her 2 pit bulls she had raised since puppyhood? Nobody knows what happened, but these were her two babies, and yet then turned on her and killed her. It is believed that she could have had a seizure, as she was epileptic. Why would a dog perceive their master lying in bed having a seizure (if indeed that is what happened) as a threat, and why would they kill her? What set them off? Ask yourself THAT question.
If pit bulls were the only loyal dog or the only loving dog available to own, I could maybe understand the risk all you owners are taking. But that is just not the case. There are so many other breeds with which you can form that same bond, without the terrible risks.
Pit bulls are very prone to allergies.
From a little research I did, have you tried a high quality lamb kibble yet? That's what most of the sites are recommending for pit bulls. This is one site, but it is down at the bottom of the page.
http://www.mprgroup.net/recommendations2.html
There are other antihistamines that are used for dogs besides Benadryl (never use one with a decongestant, of course). Tavist is one I've used. You may find a 12-hour or 24-hour one more beneficial, but do check with your vet for dosing. We actually got an air cleaner for Misha at one point, though her problems didn't turn out to be allergies.
We have a city ordinance about pit bulls
You have to provide proof of $100,000 insurance to have it; it cannot roam free; and anyone has the right to kill it if they feel they are under attack. If your pit is found running free, it is put down.
Pits do not have to be used for fighting to be aggressive. It is part of their nature - far more aggressive than other dogs.
Yes, I've had plenty of up close and personal experiences with pits that were friendly but that has nothing to do with their underlying aggressive nature.
Dangerous animal.
Just read where a 42-year-old woman was mauled and killed by her own 2 pit bulls sm
in FL near Jacksonville. Then the dogs turned on her son who was also bit in the throat but luckily will survive. Then the dogs turned on the sherrif's dept before they were both shot and killed. THANK GOD. I hate these dogs. I'm sorry. When my brother was walking home from fishing years ago pits attacked him and he's never been the same. Thankfully he survived. When you go to the FL news website you see tons of pit bull owners sticking up for this breed and saying how they are great dogs. if they are so great why are they banned in multiple counties across the nation? No other type of dog is banned? Neighbors, cousins all say that she was a very loving owner who even slept with the dogs. No neglect, nothing. There were people saying that they leave their pits alone with their young children, as young as 3 years old! How ignorant can you be?
Tons of FL residents are calling of the extinction of this breed and I think that's a great idea. You cannot trust a pit bull PERIOD. There is something in their brains that can TICK at any time - this was quoted by a vet who specializes in dog care. So tell me, why do people take chances with this kind of dog? I'm so angry right now!!!!!!
instead of doing some negative...
Do something positive! Start an exercise routine, take a yoga class, start cooking exotic but healthy meals...that'll surely get your man's attention. Why kill yourself just so a man will pay attention to you? That doesn't make sense...You are worth taking care of, no matter who or what gives you attention.
What negative impact?
Wal-Mart generally has a positive impact on the local economy. Yeah, it may run a small business or two out that cannot compete, but it hires a lot more people and ensures that people that shop there pay lower prices than previously giving a net return of more cash to the consumer. I'll take the lower prices.
You may be right, I tend to be very negative
So thanks for the honesty, I may just get that DVD.
always so negative I got her name right maybe you just dont have all the facts
Her name was Vicki Lynn however those who did know her from before know that she used the nickname Nicki when she worked in the clubs around Houston and when she went to Playboy they changed her name to Anna Nicole.
Enjoy your rant I just gave my opinion like everyone else sorry to have annoyed you with a little different point of view.
It is considered a double negative, sm
and not standardly use. Use "regardless", or "irrespective". It is considered bad grammar.
I agree/always seems very negative and angry.
x
I'm giving up negative comments
I'm going to let only positive comments pass my lips, otherwise I will stay quiet. Believe me, the Lord knows what a sacrifice this will be for me.
I don't think she meant anything negative. Agree
xxx
Why all the negative posts and not signing your name? sm
Hmmm. I find that very curious. It makes me think either you've been hurt very badly somehow regarding puppy mills and have completely given up, or... you're worried about your livelihood because you're running a puppy mill. Just speculating, of course, but why else would you even feel the need to post and be so incredibly negative?
*Of course* this show will help, if only for the fact that so many people just simply aren't aware of the pet store-puppy mill connection and this will educate them and raise their awareness. What is the alternative - do nothing? No, unacceptable.
I agree, I had 2 babies with negative ultrasounds
I did not have the same negative ultrasound finding that you have, but 2 of my 4 babies did have things wrong on the ultrasounds from not functioning organs to cysts on the brain. Both babies were born healthy and are today still years later very healthy and happy. I also had a friend who was told she was going to have a trisomy baby, but a scan 2 weeks later proved the first scan (or technician) wrong as did her amniotomy, a perfectly healthy baby girl. Hang in there, I am sure the thoughts are filling your mind and heart every moment, but try and look up info on Google just to gain more knowledge. I will pray for you. :)
Sounds like he is a negative weight pulling you
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I agree with what some others said about at least taking some time apart to see how things go. I also agree with consulting with a family law attorney. Almost all attorneys have free consultations, so you could talk to several lawyers for free and find one you feel comfortable with. They often give free advice before you even hire them (the one I worked for did anyway).
It stinks that your husband is so insistent about keeping the house, but if you do end up divorcing it may be hard for you to live there anyway with all the memories, so a new place might be good for you. It would be hard on your kids for sure, but it is probably hard for them to see their mother belittled and to witness a seemingly loveless marriage as well.
Maybe your husband doesn't want to focus on his own shortcomings so he is focusing on yours or maybe he is just too much of a perfectionist and too selfish. Have you guys tried counseling?
If you do end up spending time apart you might end up feeling incredibly free without someone constantly telling you how WRONG you are when in fact you are only human and have flaws like everyone else. He obviously has flaws too, and I would bet money his place would not be spotless and perfectly "organized" if you weren't there to clean it for him! He probably has no idea how hard you work. You deserve to be loved unconditionally, and even if you guys break up and you don't date anyone for awhile, at least he won't be there trying to dampen your self confidence and the love you have for yourself. Good luck and stay strong!!!
That should be "then." I'm just so sick of the negative here! Getalife!
You are missing the boat entirely and totally negative when you no NOTHING
He has more (material things) than you do and most men of 60s+. He has a home that he has worked to own -- not given to him! Material things do not mean much to me, however. I make my own living. He has an engineering and Masters degree. How many degrees do you have? He is very athletic! He has had olympic training. He is a wonderful man who MANY of you would desire and don't have. He knows that pleases a woman and EXACTLY what he wants in life.
Most important to me is that he expresses that he is a "God-fearing" man. There is NOTHING in life more important to me than that!
He has no kids -- not a priority in life for him. He is too wonderful to describe! I know more about him than you will ever know about your partner, because we COMMUNICATE.
Sorry for your skepticism. But I will take it with a grain of salt, as it deserves to be taken.
This man is an open book -- but not only that, but he hides nothing.
WOW is all I can say about him ! Have never met a man like this in my entire life! He wants to please me, and he is certainly capable of doing that.

Nope, I had no negative side effects whatsoever

See, that's was exactly my initial response to the negative drug test. SM
I felt like relief that my son, even when faced with the temptation, resisted the urge to smoke pot with his friends. I actually congratulated my son and told him how proud I was that he hadn't been taking any drugs or smoking pot. But then I wondered if he should be punished for having a bong in his pack. He obviously didn't use it, but why did he have it?
Now I think I may lift the grounding, but set some rules about him avoiding being around the 23-year-old guy and basically having him check in with me routinely when he is out and as long as he follows the rules, then I'll trust him.
Geez, I don't think I'm going to survive the teenage years and they've only just begun! I can only hope that when my 7yo daughter reaches her teens, she will go a little easier on me!
Thanks everyone for listening and offering your advice.
She'd like to learn something new to cook. There was a negative response to her inquiry
and I just wanted to smooth it over and give out a pretty good recipe. I've been making a similar recipe for about 35 years, growing my own veggies, fruits, canning and freezing food.
We're not here to make each other feel like crumbs. Please try to be nice. Cat
i took it and it was negative. guess i'll wait a little then call doc. nm
thanks
I've heard of tops and also heard it is a good group.
what channel, what time? I want to respond to that host in a negative manner

This man who started TV station after 9/11 to counteract negative Muslim reactions,
The below taken from CNN statement:
Police: Woman's decapitated body found at a TV station that the man founded
Muzzammil Hassan, founder of Bridges TV, charged with second-degree murder
Bridges TV is aimed at countering negative portrayals of Muslims

Just heard
Very sad indeed.
Never heard of it until now....sm
it sounds like something you'd find in the south. I'm not sure if I like the sounds of it or not!
wow, never heard of it, but thanks!
x
I heard, so sad. I liked him.
yep, once heard it said that if you
expect nothing, you are never dissappointed, so I have learned to expect nothing, and in return, I am always surprised, which makes even the smallest of niceities someone does or says much more appreciated by me. We are to be happy givers, actually expected to give until it hurts, and not to expect anything in return, amen.
You have heard exactly what I have
over the years. I have heard so much of this I probably would swat my children out of their seats at the table if I ever heard these gross sounds. I also hate to hear yawning while dictating. Reminds me of the time I used to work outside my regular job and had a physician who was a terrible dictator in the hospital and at his office (this was a group of physicians, otherwise would not just have worked for him) and one day he dictated a letter to his bank about his account and you got it, every word was letter perfect, perfectly understandable. I think most dictators find the job of doing their reports not high on the totem pole. That is why we as transcriptionists have to put up with all this crap noise they send our way. Sneezes, snorts, eating, drawing on a cigarette (yes, years ago that 1 for me), coughing, smacking, chewing, and yes, that occasional bowel movement thing-- my mother would have killed me if I ever did this!! I learned well at her knee, still am very cognizant of others in a family/social setting.
You said if you really WANT to, well heard the
same subject on weight loss from my aunt. A lot of elderly people's appetites wane and now she talks about a person, all you have to do is push away from the table. Hmmm, sounds a lot like what you are saying. If you really want to. Ok, I am trying now- I want to be beautiful, thinner, rich, and so on and so on. Hey, I really want this so I guess it can come true, right? Like I said, lot of people just do not understand. Maybe she has a good friend somewhere that will understand.
From what I have heard,
they have great personalities. I believe that smaller dogs do need to go out more frequently for a longer period, but if you work at home, maybe this won't be such an issue.
That being said, any puppy takes a lot of time and attention, and if that is going to stress you out, say you have kids and a busy life, the puppy stage can be rough. Thank goodness puppies are soooo cute, LOL. My neighbors are working with a puppy, and unfortunately they got it at 6 weeks. They were really bleary-eyed there for a while, and thought we were really smart to get an adult dog.
Make sure you go to a good breeder. This is a good place to start:
http://www.bichon.org/breeders.htm
They are not more expensive than a "backyard" breeder who is out to make a buck. The less responsible breeders tend to give themselves away by using terms to make their line sound special, but usually mean they are outside the breed standard, or breeding for looks over health. Depending on breed, they may use words like "teacup" "giant," or even "hypoallergenic." Bichons may cause allergies for fewer people, but that doesn't help if you or a family member just happen to be allergic. So what out for such buzzwords designed to sell. A good breeder is going to have questions for you about how ready you are to take on a puppy of their breed, and they will also tell you that if at any time, for any reason, you need to get rid of the dog, call them - not a rescue, not a shelter. They will always take their dog back because they really care about the dog.
If you get one, we want to hear all the puppy (or dog) stories. :oD
Never heard of this...
but will go to Lowe's tomorrow and check it out. That might be something that works in conjunction with the other ideas.
you *heard*???? LOL.........
You *heard that AL Gore's documentary had no facts in it*? And I quote you on that.
Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you *hear* - go do your own research for crying out loud!!!
At least Gore CARES!!
Has anyone heard (sm)
how the poison got into the wheat? Last I heard it was a poison that is not used in this country.
Just heard from my son
they are finally on the bus and on their way home. We live about 1 1/2 hours from Tech. There is where my son plans on going to college. He actucally told me he loved me on the phone.
I heard that
on the local news - it is utterly unbelievable!
Um, TOM? Never heard of it.
No hits on my abbreviation site, either.
No, have not heard.
Don't remember the 1997 thing either. Well if it worked back then, I would give it a go, but I feel it is a lost battle. I hate the prices where they are. $2.77 for me at the Gas N Go in NJ. $35.00 just the other day to fill her up.
I heard that!
Also have 2 boys and 1 girl - she is the middle child and has been a challenge since she was a baby. Tonight is the PROM! OMG will I be glad when tonight is over! With my son, it was rent a tux, order the corsage take some pictures, have a good time, be careful with my new car.
With my daughter, it is shop for dresses, shop some more, pick one out, have the store hold it, forgot a 50% deposit, go pay in full, wait a month for them to press it, shoes, slip, find a belly button ring that doesn't show quite so much through the fabric of said dress, purse or no purse, order flower for boyfriend AND also corsage for daughter because boyfriend doesn't feel like ordering corsage and his mother won't do it for him, nails, hair, makeup, be careful with my car (boyfriend is 17 and does not have his license).
Did I mention I will be glad when tonight is over. Truly love her to death, but yikes! Talk about high maintenance.
I have heard it's not at all
uncommon for an older child to go back into diapers and back on the bottle when another baby comes along for the same reason - a plea for attention. My husband is only a little older than his sister, and that's what he did.
So your son simply needs more of your time and attention. I hear 4 and 5 are the most fun ages anyway. :oD
I heard that too...sm
Boy, I hope not...that'd be too weird. I won't watch it either if that happens...
I have never heard of her. I just
read on a spoiler thing something about her and was wondering who she was?!
Never heard of that . .
just the Plott, which was just recognized by the club. It is a short-haired beautiful hound. You may be right, as there are unusual breeds, not yet recognized by the clubs. If you ever watch Crufts Dog Show in England you will see some dogs we do not yet recognize in our clubs.
Thanks for this, I have never tried it but heard about it
and now of course never will try it. I never thought of the fumes, probably would have if I had tried it.
Never heard of it. Do
you get them in stores or have to order them?
