Parkinson's could be another disease that causes cognitive dysfunction; but I hope he doesn't have that. 


The other concern for me would be just plain mid-life crisis.  Crisis being a loose term.  He may be experiencing a bout of just plain needing a rest too.  Just my thoughts, and I'm no physician, but I'd agree with ERMT. 


A lot of the time the spouse is the one that notices the cognitive dysfunction as opposed to the patient themselves.
