I carry on with my life for the most part whether he is home or not. Now, if we have plans to go somewhere or are doing something I may hang up when he gets home or not answer the phone, depending on who is calling. Lots of times he or the kids will bug me when I am on the phone, but I tell them off. My conversation is not necessarily their conversation, ya know?
I have a friend that I talk to quite often. If her hubby is home often she will not answer if anyone calls. If he is watching his races she will because she doesn't watch them with him. It used to be that anytime he was home you could never get her on the phone, no matter what. They have been married 15 years now, and she is finally starting to figure out that her relationship with her hubby isn't going to fall apart because of a phone call.
Now, my SIL won't talk on the phone if my brother is home, cause he is really nosey. Last time I called her and he was home, I really don't know why he didn't get on the other end and talk, because he took up most of the conversation asking her what I was saying and making comments for her to relay to me.
Go figure. I actually think it is rude to not talk to people on the phone just because the other half is home. If one or the other can't handle their spouse talking on the phone, I think there is a security issue or a control issue in the background. I had an ex that would get mad if I talked to people on the phone when he was home. Needless to say, I call him "ex" so we see how well that went over.
