i went to the site you linked - oh my gosh i wish i had not!!!  i want to rescue them all!!  but i would take * Wonder * in a second if i could.  i see he has sponsors but i may contact the rescue and see if i could donate to his care.  his story just made me cry

Rice would probably work. I use a recipe with rice for stuffing peppers and cabbage.
Also, whenever I make meat loaf, I use fresh bread rather than crumbs. I think it's moister that way. But, I also puree a veggies, like onion, carrots, mushrooms, and mix that in, too. It's very tasty.
I have never tried lamb...

I wouldn't even know how to cook it.  All I see in the stores here are these teeny little lamb chops that contain maybe an ounce of meat and they are WICKED expensive.  Never having cooked it (or eaten it) before, it's too expensive for me to screw up or not like.  We have a deer farmer down the road who let me try some deer tenderloin and it was gross.  Too dry for me and had NO flavor.  I actually like my meat with some fat on it.  I drive the butcher nuts requesting pork roasts with actual FAT on them.  It's the only way to make good gravy doncha know! 


I actually learned what "chitlin's" were (I don't know how to spell it) on one of those Food Network shows....I think it was when Alton Brown went on the road on his motorcycle to some southern places.  Yeah, can't say I'd be willing to pop that down my gullet at all.  Despite having Ellie for a pet, I do love pork though. 


My dad, um, "did time" in a prison down south for what has always remained a mystery, and he was a cook there.  As a fearless kid, he was the one who would feed me weird things like pigs feet, pickled watermelon rind, jambalaya, fried chicken gizzards and hearts, the calves liver with bacon and onions, all sorts of seafood, cheap caviar, and even escargot, which of course grossed my mother and older siblings out.  He was a fantastic cook.  A bonafide mental case, which is where I get my streak of craziness from, but a darned fine cook.

the last time I held a leg of lamb...

it was frozen, from New Zealand....I just cradled it in my arms like a baby for a minute....$54.98...so I put it back in the freezer for the rich folk.


You'd really like lamb...it's got a very sweet taste.


Now, about the deer tenderloins....whoever served them to you didn't know how to season them correctly, bkz that is the best part.. Cat


     


I had Greek yesterday, but they did not have any lamb
settled for beef Gyro ? plate with Greek Salad, Rice, Yummy.

I first tried it (lamb) in London..Pretty good, sweet tasting though, like you say, Cat.

Soul Food Cookers like to cook lamp with collards, etc. Red Beans & Rice... Huh?

as far as venison tenderloin, it depends on the age of the deer that was killed, how it was dressed and how soon, and most particularly on the COOK! The best meal I ever had was venison stew by someone who KNEW how to cook it!!! y'all made me hungry now. thanks!

To try lamb without the high price,
you might buy the blade chops. The cuts of lamb I've had have been very rich and high in fat, and I highly recommend putting at least rosemary on it. It will smell like something a chef would make.

for my mom that I knew she really, really wanted so I saved up (over $200 and I was in college at the time so not a lot of $ to go around), sent in a money order to Sharper Image and got it. The other was this great antique RCA mirror for my DH (he collects antique RCA signs and such), very unique, he loved it, and it hangs in our living room now.

could never make rice. Been using a rice cooker for 10 years and it's perfect every time.

but this is the first time I have used the recipe on the dry onion soup box!! It just sounded so good that I thought I would give it a try and just add the rice since my hubby likes rice in his meatloaf. Hope it comes out okay!!

Not 100% sure on this but if so watched an interesting program where a person reads faces and read his, talking about contempt he had for the questions, when saying no gays in his country could hardly contain his laugh/condemnation for the questioners. I would not have wasted my time in even giving this slime the time of day.

Actually, we bake cornish hens with wild rice.
Glaze is made with melted butter, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce.

Fried rice is another good, cheap meal (sm)
I use a rice cooker a lot since I can cook w/o babysitting it. Make extra rice and put it in a ziplock bag and refrigerate. Next day you can take the leftover rice and bits of meat and veggies left over from other meals and an egg or two, and make fried rice. If you're new at it, there are some inexpensive fried rice spice mix packets that give you the flavor with some instructions. But once you've done it a few times, you can wing it with some asian spices and just use up the leftovers you have.
I'd cook the rice first to make sure it's soft and edible

Any recipe ideas that can use canned tuna and rice?

I'm scraping the bottom of my pantry barrel so to speak.  I just found canned tuna that I forgot I had and a box of instant brown rice.  Any ideas on combining those two?

You could also make a cold rice and tuna salad, with a little - sm
mayo, some onion, maybe some peas and/or mushrooms if you have 'em. But, yeah, the add soup and call it a casserole/hotdish idea was the first one I had, too. :-)
It's weird, but I'm a brown rice fanatic and weight starting to come off (sm)
I bought a little rice cooker because me and my guy were hungry some nights after working out and we got hooked on rice as kind of a lowfat, low cost, no frills snack. I've gone crazy for it for some reason and eat it sometimes 3 times a day. I guess it's the complex carbs, but it's also seemed to reduce my craving for simple carbs; I'm eating less bread, much less soda, and craving fewer sweet things. I make a batch and keep leftovers in the fridge and reheat if I have a snack attack. I figure, it's better than most of the alternatives (processed, high fat, etc.)
