I cut out about 90% of dairy products. sm

The smell isn't the problem really, I wish it was if you know what I mean! The air needs to go! The sitting makes me feel like I am going to explode like everything is "tight". I am short and have abotu 35 extra pounds and tend to gain it around the middle and I know that doesn't help.

re steroids in dairy products,
are these the growth hormones you are talking about? I guess the only way to avoid them is via farm your own or organic, yes?
Dairy Queen
We have dairy queen here, the one with the waffle cone laying on the bed with whipped cream and another one where they have genetics testing, too many sexual overtones for me to want ice cream!

Cats and dairy

Cats as a species tend to be lactose intolerant, but just like any species (humans included) there are differences from one individual to another.  Milk has more lactose or milk sugar in it and that is what tends to cause the bloating and diarrhea problems.  Half and half does not have so much because the cream does not have it in the volumes that the milk does.  I had one cat who, when she turned 14 or so, sat in front of the fridge and meowed at me until I gave her a little bit of cream.  It was so bad that if I was out, I couldn't even go in to make coffee in the morning or else she would flip me the paw if she didn't get it.

I have an older cat now who is 18 and she tends to do the same thing, but straight cream gives her bad diarrhea.  I put water in a bowl and then sort of color the water with the half and half and that tends to appease her.  I have yet another cat that is allergic to anything dairy or beef related.  Give her half and half, or cheese, or beef cat food and within 10 minutes she's yacking up everything that's in her stomach.

I love the little varmints.  Don't know what I'd do without them.   OP  = I'm very glad for the solution to your problem.  You saved a poor kitty from a bad life outside and solved your mouse problem at the same time.  Yay!

Brunch guest who can't have dairy or salt - snowed in!

Out of ideas! Also, looking for simple recipe for brunch requiring stuff I have on hand. Martha always has some confounded ingredient I never heard of. Lost my hash brown recipe. Have frozen hash browns, sour cream, cr. chicken soup, butter & chips, forgot how I put them all together last time. Locked in, more snow coming, zero degrees in NE, don't even know if people will make it here. I'm frustrated. Have a spiral ham on hand, thank goodness! Sounds like I'll be cooking but will they come in the stormy weather. Darned if I do, darned if I don't!  The no dairy, no salt thing is driving me up the walls.

Oh well, have a happy holiday. Tip: Put furniture polish or cooking oil on your snow shovel and the snow won't stick.

Here are some dairy-free recipes. Then leave out the salt, of course

I agree about minimal dairy, but nothing wrong with grains IMO (unless you're a raw foods faddist
or have some sort of special dietary needs. Seeds and nuts are great, but keep in mind that they tend to be high in fat so shouldn't be used *too* heavily.

Have you tried CET products? sm
My Siberian Husky, Wiley, had enamel hypoplasia, so I always had to take good care of his teeth. It was diagnosed when he was 5 yrs of age. He had a particularly severe case, and I could probably write a book about all our dental adventures over the years (x-rays and cleanings every 6 months, extractions, root canals, malformed roots, reabsorption of the root canals many years later so they had to be removed...)

Anyway, the vet said I needed to brush his teeth *every* day, w/o fail. My heart sank when I heard this, because Wiley was, shall we say... 'spirited' and I thought there was NO WAY he was going to let me brush his teeth.

Fortunately, I found that he really loved the poultry flavored toothpaste for dogs (sounds disgusting, doesn't it?) made by C.E.T. The best price I found was here: http://www.fuzzytummy.com/ (Click on 'shop' under where it shows *C.E.T. Dental Products for Cats and Dogs* then click on 'Best to Brush' and scroll down to C.E.T. Oral Hygiene Kit for Dogs.)

I would buy 3 kits at a time of the toothbrush and toothpaste, to save on shipping. I never had a problem brushing his teeth when I used the poultry flavored. I tried using malt flavored once, and he didn't like it as much, and he fought me a little bit. I also tried mint flavored, but he didn't like that one AT ALL, and I didn't get much brusing done, so I didn't use mint again.

Brushing is the best, but if your dog just will not cooperate with brushing, C.E.T. also makes a rinse that you squirt around the gumline - very easy to do but Wiley didn't like it. It seemed to taste bad to him.

C.E.T. also makes dental chews with enzymes in them that help clean the teeth. (They make products for cats too, though I would definitely not want to try to brush a cat's teeth! LOL)

There are other products I've seen (try Foster's and Smith - online) for keeping their teeth clean that you can just add to your dog's water bowl, but I don't know how well they work. (Still, I suppose that would be better than nothing?)

Good luck!

As Seen on TV Products - anybody?

Thought we could pool our opinions on the ones we have tried for others to see what works before we make that purchase.

I tried the green bags that slow the ripening process and keep foods fresher longer.  THEY WORK.  Kept bananas twice the amount of time and they tasted fresh too.

Anybody?

Have you tried their products?
That would be great if it really tastes like bacon. It would help poor DH who isn't allowed to eat real bacon anymore and misses it terribly.
Aside from whatever products you use
If you use a ceramic hair straightener, it works wonders!
Leapfrog products.
I just have to say how wonderful the people at Leapfrog are.  My son has a Leapster and loves it, but it is less than a year old and it stopped turning on.  Leapfrog sent us a new one, just like that.  After they realized I had tried all their troubleshooting techniques, they sent a new one free of charge.  They obviously stand by their products!!
Buy their products faithfully... sm
email me if you want further info - not trying to recruit you... just will give you an idea of some of the products I really enjoy. I'm in it because I love the products - they're awesome.
awesome products
Just wanted to say thanks for trying to recruit me, but I am already in Melaleuca and I just wanted to tell you that I think these are also wonderful products and I buy them faithfully also, and I have to say that my favorite product is the laundry detergent. It gets my husbands greasy work clothes clean with just one squirt of detergent.
Best fake tan products?
Does anyone have a good experience with any of the fake tanning products out there?  I want something easy to apply that looks as natural as it can be out of the bottle.  Thanks so much!
Nice to know products out there sm
Some meticulous women have a problem because of medication, etc. It's nice to know what is out there without asking someone. I do agree that it can be sickening. I get embarrassed when children are around, I wish they would limit these products to nighttime viewing. I hate having to explain my way around what wonderful things warm lubricants and Cialis can do for "the right moment." I agree in a way but a few things I have seen on TV have enlightened me as to what's out there now, more than in the old days. I bathe daily in nice hot water but I am grateful to know I could possibly have a problem. Dryness can also cause this problem as well as medications such as some cancer drugs, yeast infections, etc., and I have seen the best of the best, cream of the crop socialites who could use one of these products as they are not aware they have an obvious odor about them. Knowledge is power but spare our kids, please!
Ingredient in over 1,800 products
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/peanutbutterrecall/index.cfm

It is in Kashi, Kroger, Keebler, Brachs candies, nearly any food you can think of. Check the list out. These two peanut plants have not passed inspections in over four years. They were roach and mold infested and the CEO took the 5th today when questioned by congress.
Arbonne Int'l products are wonderful...
I used MK for almost 20 years and never thought I would use anything else, but I recently tried Arbonne Int'l products and my face feels wonderful.  Do a search for their website.
Does anyone know about Swanson Health Products?
I received a catalog of their products today (herbs, vitamins, minerals, etc.) and their prices seem really good.  I was wondering how good their product is.  Do they put a lot of "extra" ingredients in their herbs or do they offer the "real" thing?  I know that there are some companies out there that their herb/vitamin supplements are not worth taking because there is so little of the real thing in their capsules.  How do you rate Swanson?
I love her products, but I don't use Reclaim (sm)
I haven't ordered any lately -thanks for the reminder! Her moisturizer is so good that when I stopped using it for a while, people started asking me what was wrong - did I feel bad, etc? LOL. Oh and the enzyme mask is amazing!! There is also a skin tightening serum that works really well. It's all good stuff. You can become a member and get three products a month at a really good price.
Health and beauty products
I always like to hear about good reviews of products because sometimes it can be overwhelming with all the choices. I just thought we could all share about one or two of our favorites - hair or makeup. I personally love L'Oreal volumizer mascara and most Lancome makeup even though it's pricey. I'm looking for a really good shampoo and conditioner though - anyone?
hair care products
I would have to agree with the Aveda statement.  Their products are pricey but you use minimal amounts of the product to get the job done.  Their shampoos are amazing and they have leave-in stuff for styling that is incredible.  I have 2-process color on my hair and I find their products to be the best, hands down.  I also use their tinted moisturizer and tourmaline products .. I have seen a huge difference in my skin and hair .. it is like anything else I suppose - you get what you pay for.
American Girl Products
Thanks for all the help you can give me. It looks like this is going to be a project to bring the collection in under budget by Christmas but I just can't afford to buy new and Santa won't be able to help out this year.
Also avoid products with lanolin

which can aggravate eczema.  It's another common ingredient in lotions.

Curel original has neither lanolin nor vitamin E.

We keep no peanut products in our home
Hubby only eats the natural peanut butter and it tastes yucky. Other than that, nothing else in the house contains peanut butter and he had his way before the scare.
I'm currently avoiding ALL products with peanuts in them,
as the recall just seems to keep getting more and more expansive. At the beginning of it I bought some chocolate-covered cookies with peanut-flavored middles that were going to go on a picnic with me, to share with others. Instead, I bought different cookies to share with my friends. (I have few enough friends, without poisoning them to death!) Still, I couldn't throw away the package, and since they were generic, without a particular brand, I finally took a chance and ate one bite of one myself. They were fine, and needless to say, I ended up polishing off the entire package.
Question about sugar free products

I love sugar free stuff (soda, kool-aid, etc), but i've heard that phenylkeroturic (not sure if i spelled it right) wasn't good for you.  have any of you heard this or know of a place to find out more info?  i'm going to try google.  my kids like the sugar free kool-aid and i don't want to give it to them if it's not good.

thanks

microfiber products.....just discussed, see archives...

Typical multilevel - good products but...

high in price.  Melalueca is just like every other multilevel company.  The people at the top make a lot of money.  The ones at the bottom don't.  I never liked trying to sell things, especially multilevel programs, to my friends.  :)

We use Terro Ant Killer products, you get buy at WM or local Co-Op. nm

American Girl Doll Products

I know this is general gab, but does anyone have any American Girl stuff to sell.  I am trying to put together a collection for Christmas but can't afford anything but second-hand prices.  E-Bay is way expensive too.  Thanks!

It is the steroids they are inducing into diary products sm
that are believed to be causing early menstrual cycles, early puberty, etc.

It is definitely way early. I have 3 girls. Oldest started at mid-13, two others are 12 and 11 and have not started. I believe the larger structured girls and more athletic girls will start sooner. My girls are very petite and not athletic. Mine DD likes the Kotek minis. She hates wings so avoid those. They have some with pretty blue flowers on the package and those are her favorite. Someone will need to teach her how and when to know to change, how to dispose properly, etc. Heating pad, Tylenol, or Motrin if she needs them. I have found most young ones do not experience a lot of pain with the cramps or barely cramp at all but they are all different.
