I am thinking of adopting a dog from an organization that...

rescues unwanted boxers. I've always wanted a boxer, but could not fathom paying $400 for a dog when there are so many homeless dogs in shelters, etc. Anyway, I discovered a boxer rescue group in my area and thought I would look into adopting one.
I got on their website and there is a quite lengthy application just to adopt. With a lot of questions basically testing my knowledge on pet care and a lot of background questions. Plus there is a paragraph that says they may want to inspect my home before proceeding with letting me adopt a dog. They even want a personal reference that they will call and make sure I'm okay.
Now, I understand that they are animal lovers and want to make sure they adopt their dogs out to loving and caring homes, but isn't this a bit much? I feel like I'm trying to adopt a child rather than a dog.

regarding the son: He is adopting the
same lifestyle as his father. Why shouldn't he? He is - as you stated in 1 of your former posts - looking up to his father and admiring him and nobody proves to him that his father's behavior is deadwrong and that his father has to be punished for this.
How else is the son going to get the right morals and values and differentiate betweeen right and wrong if you yourself are protecting the father with your passiveness?
I am glad that you decided to go to the trial. You have to find a solution regarding your car, though. Park it far away from the courthouse, so these lunatics will not find it.
how about a Yorkie rescue organization
Most breeds have rescue operations for their specific breed. I wish I would have known about breed rescues when I got my dogs. I would have definitely gotten them from the rescue instead.
7-year-old with organization skills...sm
My 7-year-old daughter has a great "eye" for how to organize and decorate things to look better. Yesterday after school she asked me if she could reorganize my office for me...which is always a mess. I took her to Wal-Mart and she picked out a few organizers to use and went to work. Within an hour she had it transformed and it looks great...and is much better organized. She was excited when I gave her a few bucks for doing a fabulous job.
I think I sense a future for her in interior design or as a paid organizer!!!
Animal Rescue Organization
My son forwarded this message to me. I checked it out and it is legitimate. All it takes is a click - no cost to you at all. Let's help these animals!
Animal Rescue
Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple... Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.
It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals' for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising. Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

For anyone interested in adopting a pet
Here is a link where you can search on breed of animal and state. It's where we found Jake. Many excellent animals there, some of them just given up because owners didn't have the time for them, etc. My DH is worried we're going to end up with a house full of animals, but I wouldn't do that, limited time and great just with the one right now, although you never know... I've always been a supporter of animal rescue and participated volunteering for a puppy mill raid one time years ago, of course ended up bringing a dog home, but my other one needed a friend .
There really are a lot of advantages to adopting
1. You already know what the cat's personality is like. Too hard to tell with a kitten. But if you want a lazy Garfield type, I can't say enough good things about a grown-up kitty!
2. The older the cat, the more it needs you, too. They are often dumped at shelters because of moving, foreclosures, 'getting a new puppy', 'having a baby', and other excuses. My most recent of 2 cats was 8 years old when her owners, who obviously loved her and took good care of her, dumped her at the pound. Often people overlook the older cats because they want a cute little kitten.
3. It's easier to tell if you are adopting the 'right' cat. I've even adopted a 10-year-old once. She was a total sweetheart. Be very diligent about going with your 'gut', more than your emotions. I posted the long post above about the floor-peeing Persian. The day I adopted her, I did pick the wrong cat. I was already too emotional when I went there, because I had just lost my beloved Himalayan 3 weeks before, and obviously it was too soon. I was in tears as soon as I went into the cat-room to look at the kitties, since that was the same place I'd adopted the Himmie. THEN, there was a gorgeous dark silver Persian girl with mesmerizing, lime-green eyes, that was IMPLORING me to adopt her. She was SO sweet! I was sure she was 'the one' and then this little calico ball of scaredness caught my eye back in a corner, curled up in her cage and with her head buried, too scared to even look at me. I was told a little about her background, and that she had just come in that morning. I had to climb halfway into her cage with her to pet her, but she responded by purring immediately and licking my hand. So I felt she 'needed' me. So, more tears as I couldn't decide whether to get the needy cat, or the cat that was practically holding up hand-painted signs in front of my face saying 'ADOPT ME!' That was a friendly, outgoing, fearless cat that would have made a far better pet. AND, had the cat I adopted stayed at rescue for a few weeks, especially if lots of time was spent in a cage, she may have been better litter-box trained. So I probably did her no favors by adopting her so soon after arriving in rescue. I still regret not adopting the grey cat with the lime-green eyes, but - that's how it goes sometimes.
PETA....this organization is a cruel joke!
You DON'T want PETA to be involved in anything related to animals.

I seriously thought about adopting a greyhound once,
but then after reading more about them, I found out it could possibly run away and eat my neighbors' little pets. If it weren't for that, I probably would have done it.
I'm also a big fan of adopting ADULT cats!
I don't have the time nor storage space to 'kitten-proof' my tiny, cluttered apartment. I like how quickly an adult cat will come to love me (usually just a couple days - in the case of my current one, about 2 seconds!) Also how quickly they adopt daily routine similar to mine.
They aren't totally non-destructive (I doubt if there is such an animal). One insists on sharpening her claws on my good faux-Persian rug in the living room, pulling little tufts out of it. So I try to keep them well-trimmed. The other one likes to barf up hairballs on the light tan carpet that stains more easily, but those "oxy" types of cleaners work on those.
Other than that, it's just the occasional object they may knock over and break (which I try to keep out of their reach), or the hair everywhere, which is just part of life with any pet.
I agree with the other posters, though - I wouldn't want to live without them, so I guess I'll just have to deal with the occasional mess.
I'm just telling what I found out when I looked into adopting a greyhound.
Maybe they all could do it, but maybe some are also more prone to it, and this is too risky for me. I would die if I had a dog that ended up eating my neighbor's pets.
That is exactly what I was thinking, HUH?! lol NM

Thank you for thinking of others!!
that's exactly what i was thinking

That is what I was thinking. At first, she might
have had some point to what she was saying...but not after all the other posts I had started reading.
Well, I'm thinking one (sm)
of the differences (and I don't think that makes it right), is that this insurance company obviously is not putting out a huge amount of money for this claim. I highly doubt that you have the same insurance company that they have, so that could be another reason why it was so easy for them. If you ask my opinion, even though I'm related to them, I think it's a little over the top. I certainly didn't mean to cause any resentment or anger here by posting this to begin with. I really didn't believe that it would turn out this way. I'm still surprised.
What are they THINKING?
Just watched Idol and am shaking my head in disbelief.
You said everything I was thinking
.
Thank you for saying what I was thinking... sm
But didn't want to say. Esp. the post below about putting band-aids on the nipple and the child sucked beside the band-aids and put hickies on mom's breast? Oh, man. I'm sure it was all very innocent, but that made me nauseous.
I thought maybe it was just me, since I don't have kids, but breast-feeding that long seems a little sick to me. (I know, I know, they do it in other countries, it's perfectly natural, we're the ones with the hang-up, etc.)
Thinking??? They are not thinking.
I already have one brother in the pen and my other brother has NEVER been in trouble, he is nearing 50 years old and is facing several years in the pen for being plain brainless!!! Sorry, I am just so frustrated, I don't understand this and now I am left alone to assist our aging parents.
Thinking they can get away with it - ego. nm

I'm thinking...(sm)
They were Brooke's eggs...so Taylor's carrying Brooke and Nick's child...and Bridgette had everything to do with it, probably not Brooke!
Wow...aint we glad real life isn't a soap!!! But sure do love indulging in fantasy for 30 minutes a day!
Do you also watch Y&R? I don't think Nick's really dead...he'll come back, Phyllis will probably be in jail, and he and Sharon will raise Summer...just a thought!
That's what I was thinking too
for my own bedroom, which we are in the process of painting now. I want to add some color, and think that some kind of border would break the contrast between the wall and the ceiling, be it wallpaper, sponge technique, stenciling, or other. I think maybe having the ceiling the same color as the walls would be too much for me, unless a very light color.
This is the one I was thinking of! Thanks - nm
:)
LOL. Thinking the same
thing here. If anyone makes that doing this, they have to be totally working their behinds off!
Thinking about a new pet . . .
Does anyone have a ferret? Are they difficult to care for? Do you have to buy a pair or could I start out with just one in a large area where more could be added over time. What is the best type of cage that is chew proof? There are so many out there.
i'd like to know too, been thinking about that myself lately. sm
we have recently had to have 3 different appraisals on our home. i had to pay $350, $350 and $375 for each one. the last one the lady was here at max 15 minutes, it was her second appraisal for the day and she was gone before noon and i know she was heading to do another when she left my house. sounds like descent money to me. i am sure gas expenses are quite hefty with the traveling, but still seems like much better profit than MT. she took pictures and measured a few things and that was about all other than preparing the paperwork, researching other properties in area, etc.
I am thinking... sm
One year I planted tomato plants, 12 of them. They all grew fine, grew flowers, then all of a sudden I could look out the window and actually SEE them such them down, whole plants. schlooop. gotta feed the babies. We put some screening underground and next season was better. Sorry about you punkins. It could be rabbits, but the whole plant thing going underground was definitely gophers for me.
I'm so sorry! I was thinking
about your post the other day. My dog had the same type of weird behavior. He was wandering around aimlessly and fell asleep in a closet - not like him at all. We didn't really think too much of it at the time. Then a few weeks later he was walking along and fell over into the pool. He hates the pool and is terrified of water. My mother (who can't swim) jumped in after him, but he was already swimming. He never even went completely under the water, he recovered that fast. We brought him to the vet immediately. He had no hearing loss or vision loss. The vet said that he probably had a TIA. It has happend a couple more times since then. Other then the little episodes, which only last a few minutes, he is a perfectly normal dog and plays and eats. The vet didn't really do anything for him. He just told us that if we noticed any big changes, to bring the dog in immediately. I would definitely take her to the vet and see what the vet has to say. Give your baby lots of love!!!
Well, please at least tell me what you are thinking (sm)
I know you are not a doctor and won't consider it to be medical advice but have you heard of something like this before??
Thinking of you! - sm
My PS was calling us all today asking for us to work extra because of all the MTs in S. CA who are down. At least someone at the company cares!
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone down there.
Was actually thinking about you
when I saw it on the news - actually had film on Cape Cod. Glad you are okay. I also know several other regulars are from Maine.
Thanks. That's what I was thinking.

EXACTLY what I was thinking!
I have come to realize that my so-called "friend" is a very jealous person, and it makes me insane because I don't understand it! This is a small thing, but for example, at the beginning of this past summer, my husband and I were talking with her about GPS systems and how it would be nice to have one for our car for when we travel. She told us that she would love to get one, too, but they were just so expensive. My husband and I ended up getting a great deal on a really nice GPS system online in July, so we bought it, and when I told her about it, her exact response was, "I really have no interest in those things." I couldn't believe it! She had seemed like she wanted one ever more than we did!
Also, shortly before Thanksgiving, we were talking about laptop computers and how we both wanted new ones (we both had older ones), and she kept telling me that she was going to get one after the holidays, but I had no immediate plans to buy one. Well, for Christmas, my husband bought me a beautiful brand new HP laptop, which was completely unexpected! I was so excited, so I told her the good news and her response was, "Laptops are nothing but pains. I hate the things." Why does she do this???? I hate jealous people! It's not even like I was trying to make her jealous, but was just so excited that I wanted to share the exciting news with someone! Shouldn't a friend be happy for you and not turn completely jealous when something good happens for you?
I guess she is not really a true friend. After all of these times of blowing us off by not coming over when she has said she was going to, I am just sick of it, and I'm not going to even talk to her anymore.
Thanks - that's what I was thinking too (sm)
That at least I could try to show him a respectful way to behave, give him an example. Interesting that I am also a Scout leader :-)
I was thinking that too!!
I need to find a way to keep my arms out from under my pillow while I sleep too!!
Thanks - that's exactly what I was thinking (sm)
Thanks for understanding where I was coming from.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Don't cook, don't clean, don't wash...I guess if I didn't ever have to do anything, I may remember moving a pair of underwear to a specific different drawer 2 days before I was going to wear them. As I sit right now, when I open a drawer I'm lucky if I remember why I came in the room let alone what I opened the drawer for. Pay the lady and maybe she can buy her own soap and undies.
That's the one I was thinking of!
Rules of Engagement. That show is SO funny. Just crackes me up every time. I like the other shows on the Monday night lineup too but they have had a LOT iof repeats so I stopped recording them. Except my hubs knows if he sees Christine or Rules of Engagement he will record them for me.
Still thinking -
BBQ pork and chicken are good too. Something you can grill a few days ahead and then leave in the crock pot to finish the day you want it. I find pork roasts are relatively inexpensive and really go far without much shrinking.
I also make a mexican-type dish - my take on something Rachel Ray did. Boil (or use leftover) chicken breasts, shred, add 1 package of salsa mix (I have also used taco seasoning but like the salsa better), add some cilantro to this. I use small corn tortillas that I quickly fry in a little oil just to make them pliable. Add the chicken to the tortillas, roll up like a cigar, line them all in a 13x9 and top with Chihuhua cheese (not sure on the spelling but any mexican melting cheese will do). STick them under the broiler to melt the cheese. I serve with salsa, a salad and/or rice. Kids love them too!
Just know there are those that will be thinking
xx
And if it's the one I'm thinking of,
it is also DELICIOUS!
This is exactly what I was thinking...sm
If someone does not show up or respond, especially when they are expected to, I would want to make sure they were okay.
Perhaps she is thinking of him...
I do not so much subscribe to putting down animals who seem happy enough. I really struggle with putting down an animal at all, unless death is eminent and unavoidable, i.e., a horse with a ruptured intestine. At the very least, keep in mind that it is ultimately her decision. I can't imagine trying to convince someone to kill her pet. My mother-in-law did this three years ago at Christmas time when my dog had hurt her back. She is old. She is still old--three years later--and her back is much better now.
It might mean that HE is thinking about you, how you
are managing in this difficult times. What terrible fact tht he does not want tio have ve anything to do with his child.
Would he know how to get into touch with you?
I am thinking no on this one also
name calling?
thanks for the info, LOL. I was thinking it was some
kind of food giveaway from the government, ya know, like the free cheese thing. LOL
I was thinking more along the lines
poo maybe?
I'm curious to see what this really does mean.. LOL. First thing that came to my warped mind.
No, what they heck are they thinking?
x
LOL! I guess I was thinking they could
be born in the same minute, but not at the same moment (LOL!)
I was thinking the same thing.
