I am so sorry

I am nearing that situation with my dog. He is in constant pain and the meds only seem to help a little. His shoulder is luxating in and out of joint, and he has arthritis in both back legs. We could try surgery, but he is 10 years old and has been through many surgeries during his short life. A few months ago he had surgery for bladder stones and his recovery was much longer and more difficult than when he was younger.

Have you tried giving the pills with cream cheese? If you coat the pill well it may disguise the smell enough. Right now I am giving my dog his pills with peanut butter but I doubt a cat would like that.  As long as I put it on my finger for him to lick off, he is fine. If I put it in his bowl, he will lick all around it and leave the pill.

If she won't take the pills, and there is no other way to relieve her pain...then you have to make the decision that is right for her. I know it is hard. I have already told my husband that he is going to have to make the decision, if and when, and I will not argue or hold it against him. He loves our dog as much as I do, so I know he will make the right decision.

I am just rambling here...I feel so bad for you, because it is such a hard decision to make. Our four-footed companions give us the purest love there is. My dog is the heart of my heart, as I am sure your cat is for you. All I can say is, I'm sorry, and ((((HUG)))).
