I agree and I, too, try to eat foods without--sm
all these additives, such as hormone free chicken and no antibiotics. Finding foods without these are costly and difficult to find, but worth the cost to me.
As far as any warnings, I doubt it. They only warn about what the FDA tells them to warn about. Unless forced, they will not disclose anything, and that includes the pet food, as well. It is really sad when we cannot even trust our food manufacturers to potentially threaten our very lives with these things, just to make a buck!
Agree with this. Regular aerobics and no white foods/sugars. nm

Sometimes people put a one-sentence reply in the subject line only and the rest of the message is automatically blank. If they can't fit the reply in just the subject line, sometimes they even use the space provided by the "name" line to finish the sentence.
I think the proper etiquette is to write (sm) for "see message" in the subject line if there's more to be read, or (nm) for "no message" to help speed things along for the reader so they don't waste their time clicking on something that isn't there.
A lot of folks don't identify themselves the same with every post because they want to stay anonymous, which is cool. I'm old school...I'm always "Hayseed" because whatcha see is whatcha get. I could use my regular name, Kathy, but there I'm sure there are a gazillion Kathy's and it's just easier to keep things straight that way.
Sorry, you're wrong!
And YOU haven't followed the whole chain of events. Do not judge lest you be judged.
Not sure you're looking at it the wrong way....
What the OP posted was not about depressing the women of today or making them feel worthless. It is an encouragement to take time for yourself and saying that's the healthy thing to do. It's saying not to feel guilty or worthless and that you SHOULD care for yourself. It's also saying that those feelings are perfectly normal, as most women do feel that way. It's a positive approach saying, yes others feel the way you do, but it's not healthy and you should try to change that thought process.
I will say that, though it's a double standard, I know some women who take all the time they need for themselves, and basically people think they're unbelievably selfish. I

Never put anything in writing or read it first and erase it before you send it. I was in a similar situation with a family member demanding we send monthly money to someone and I wrote back in anger years ago. This has been used as a weapon over my head for 20 plus years. I wish to God I hadn't written that letter. But I can see where you would. I just learned not to do this either by snail mail or E-mail (or even a note left around the house). They could print it out and bang you over the head with it and you don't deserve that. I know how angry you were and should be, but I hope you learned a lesson. I know I did, I am a good person and I made myself look bad by responding that way. They say, "respond but don't react" and it's very difficult when you deal with dysfunctional people. I only made myself look bad and them look like the poor innocent victims. I never apoligized though as they had no right to ask for such a thing in the first place. Feel better! Apologizing via e-mail would only give them more ammunition. Let is go and learn from it. I did.Families - better off without them!
If you're saying it's wrong to conclude
that this has to be caused by psychosis or at least a terrible drug reaction, I don't agree. The scary thing is that I suppose such a thing could happen to any of us. But I would not believe somebody could get all the way through all the training to be an astronaut and be able to fly missions and then have this big of an "error in judgement." It is much more than an error in judgement.
You kidding me?! You're not wrong at all!
Someone should sit by the tree and hand out one present at a time...an older sibling or adult. They should read the gifts tag on it for the child (you know, who it's to and who it's from) and hand it to the child to be opened and subsequent reaction captured in memory or on film, thanking the gift giver verbally or hugs (the best thank you, in my opinion!), and then proceeding to the next gift. It should be a family event, well, at least that's my opinion of it, not pillage and plunder.
On-looking family can be kept busy with munchies and beverages. Man, I would be such a Nazi of a parent, I swear!
You're very wrong. The Bible is very much up for
I had a baptist pastor tell me that I should not marry out of my race and that it's in the Bible... So what do you say to that?
Believe what you want and interpret it how you want, but then don't say that others are sinners when you are not GOD!
You're SO wrong! Animals DO think and feel! - sm
A dog is a *pack* animal, and when it doesn't live in a wild pack like a wolf, and lives in the company of humans instead, it considers the humans it's pack. This includes the hierarchy, too. This is why many people have no control of their dogs - the dog has established itself as the *alpha* dog.
Dogs thrive on the company of their family. A *lone wolf* is an unhappy wolf, and a dog abandoned in a yard for weeks on end (or even in an apartment all day) is definitely an unhappy dog.

Cats and dairy
Cats as a species tend to be lactose intolerant, but just like any species (humans included) there are differences from one individual to another. Milk has more lactose or milk sugar in it and that is what tends to cause the bloating and diarrhea problems. Half and half does not have so much because the cream does not have it in the volumes that the milk does. I had one cat who, when she turned 14 or so, sat in front of the fridge and meowed at me until I gave her a little bit of cream. It was so bad that if I was out, I couldn't even go in to make coffee in the morning or else she would flip me the paw if she didn't get it.
I have an older cat now who is 18 and she tends to do the same thing, but straight cream gives her bad diarrhea. I put water in a bowl and then sort of color the water with the half and half and that tends to appease her. I have yet another cat that is allergic to anything dairy or beef related. Give her half and half, or cheese, or beef cat food and within 10 minutes she's yacking up everything that's in her stomach.
I love the little varmints. Don't know what I'd do without them. OP = I'm very glad for the solution to your problem. You saved a poor kitty from a bad life outside and solved your mouse problem at the same time. Yay!
I cut out about 90% of dairy products. sm
The smell isn't the problem really, I wish it was if you know what I mean! The air needs to go! The sitting makes me feel like I am going to explode like everything is "tight". I am short and have abotu 35 extra pounds and tend to gain it around the middle and I know that doesn't help.
I agree, they're not for everyone. Same with Rottweilers.
I have owned three Rottweilers, all at different times, two males and a female. You have to be a responsible dog owner. The posting above is right. You have to be a certain kind of dog owner to have these type of dogs. The owner must have these dogs under control at all times, both at home and in public. YOU must be the dominant one. That does not mean beating them or mistreating them. You have to let them know what is expected of them and what type of behavior is not acceptable. Rotties can be very domineering if allowed to be. They are big and powerful and they know it. The one I have now is a 7 yo male who I have had six years. I got him as a rescue when he was a year old. He weighs about 130 lbs. He is as sweet as can be. He is great with the kids and the cat. He has been raised with kindness and with discipline, and that is what he responds to. He is a great dog.
re steroids in dairy products,
are these the growth hormones you are talking about? I guess the only way to avoid them is via farm your own or organic, yes?
you're right. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
We all have different ways of parenting and that's just the way it is. Have a blessed day!

Brunch guest who can't have dairy or salt - snowed in!
Out of ideas! Also, looking for simple recipe for brunch requiring stuff I have on hand. Martha always has some confounded ingredient I never heard of. Lost my hash brown recipe. Have frozen hash browns, sour cream, cr. chicken soup, butter & chips, forgot how I put them all together last time. Locked in, more snow coming, zero degrees in NE, don't even know if people will make it here. I'm frustrated. Have a spiral ham on hand, thank goodness! Sounds like I'll be cooking but will they come in the stormy weather. Darned if I do, darned if I don't! The no dairy, no salt thing is driving me up the walls.
Oh well, have a happy holiday. Tip: Put furniture polish or cooking oil on your snow shovel and the snow won't stick.
Here are some dairy-free recipes. Then leave out the salt, of course

I think you may be on to something with the diet - I worked with someone once who also had 3 boys and the youngest had some behavior probs that sound similar to your son's. . She changed his diet - cut out sugar and some other things (can't remember what) and she said he was like a completely different child. . It sounds nearly impossible that diet could make that much difference, but maybe it does. . I also agree you should keep searching for a counselor/psychiatrist until you find one that can help.
what are the 6 bad foods?
I really did not see that on her web site, but I do need to lose a little weight. I have never had a problem until this perimenopause, and now, I have middle aged spread! It is a little hard on my ego and my knees!
foods that I will not eat is...sm
Is head cheese. Other than that, I will eat anything, aside from insects. Anything spicy, and I mean seriously spicy, is my favorite. Seafood, including raw (sushi, oysters and alike) is my favorite. Organ meats are awsome. I make the best chopped liver. I also make my own schmaltz. No opinions on goat voiced here, but it is excellent. I die and go to heaven for Indian food. I have learned to make my own, including naan. You people are making me hungry. My husband is disgusted by what I eat, but I say great, more for me!

Please research commercial pet foods
Please read this article, Iams is not a good food, there are many many out there that are, just not found at the grocery store. Vets do not know either, they are not taught animal nutrition in the vet schools which are subsidized by the pet food companies. I was horrified when I found this information out, please please inform yourself on this subject and if you find the below article too lengthy, just Google commercial pet food ingredients and you will be horrified such as I was when I finally decided to research this after my Collie died covered in cancer. All for the animals.

What are your thoughts on organic foods?
Do you try to buy them wherever possible, or only if you happen to pick them up in error? If you intentionally buy them, why? Do they taste better, are they better for you, do you believe you're helping the environment? http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/diet.fitness/04/13/cl.organics/index.html Organic vs. conventional: What do experts say?By Amy Spindler CookingLight.com The organic market is growing at a steady pace of nearly 20 percent annually, and that translates into organic alternatives in nearly every grocery aisle -- from snack foods to frozen meals to baked goods. "Everyone wants to be healthy and these foods convey an aura of health," says Marion Nestle, Ph.D., professor of nutrition, food studies, and public health at New York University and author of "What to Eat." Here, experts compare some of the benefits and drawbacks of going organic. Are organic products more nutritious?A few small studies have shown that some organic foods contain higher nutrient levels than conventional ones. For example, a recent study showed that organic ketchup had 57 percent more of the antioxidant lycopene than regular ketchup. But the wholesale claim that organics are more nutritious than conventional is ahead of the science. "More research is needed before it can be stated that organic foods provide more nutritional value," says Connie Diekman, M.Ed., R.D., director of university nutrition at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri. Organic foods may have other benefits, though. Charles Benbrook, Ph.D., chief scientist at The Organic Center, asserts that some organic products are less processed, which means they may contain fewer chemically adulterated ingredients (think hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, and preservatives). Bottom line: "Read labels and look at each product in its own right," Benbrook says. An organic potato chip may contain as many calories and saturated fat grams as a conventional chip. "The price premiums associated with processed organic food are not as great as the premiums charged for organic whole foods," Benbrook says. Are organic products healthier for the environment? What's best for the environment is hotly debated among experts. "There is no scientifically accepted evidence that organic foods are better for the environment. Organic production allows natural pesticides, which can be toxic to humans and wildlife," says Alan McHughen, Ph.D., professor of botany and plant sciences at the University of California, Riverside. Organic fertilizers may also contain harmful bacteria, such as E. coli. Plus, organic farming yields only 75 to 90 percent of the crop of conventional systems, meaning that more land must be planted in order to have an equal return. Organic advocates counter that chemicals used in conventional farming spread far beyond the fields where they are applied and have unintended consequences. "Synthetic pesticides have been linked to developmental and neurological problems," Benbrook says. "Organics eliminate synthetic pesticides and the damage they do to farmers, land, and drinking water." Organic regulations also prohibit the use of genetic modification -- another thorny issue with as-yet unclear implications for the environment. Bottom line: Focus on foods' benefit to your immediate environmen -- i.e. your body -- first. "A good diet means variety, balance, and moderation, regardless of the farming method that produced the food," McHughen says.
considered quality foods by whom? sm
I have heard many negative things about both of these pet foods for years. I do not consider them to be quality foods, by a long shot, and this was even before the tainted food scandal. That's what I am talking about.
Yeps lots of fav foods too
nm
I'm not picky and like most foods that others hate.
But, I won't touch chicken salad with a 10-foot pole! Hate the stuff! And ketchup. Ack! What a terrible way to use wonderful tomatoes!
protein-filled snacks/foods.....
Resist genetically engineered foods!
They think it might be related to the pet food problem because right now genetically engineered grains are only allowed in pet food. Some think it might be what's wiping out the honey bees and other pollinators. Some food is wind pollinated, like corn, but this could really limit our diets. Countries like China are big into these crops, and I was reading that in California, they are or were trying to pass laws that would prevent people from having any say about our food. Cross-pollination is pretty hard to prevent, so evening allowing them to be grown could be devastating. And they are being grown here, apparently, by big companies like Monsato (sp?).
What foods are native to your area of the country
Over years I have noticed that certain areas don't sell things I used to have growing up. Wondered what kind of things are in your parts of the country.
Two products we had in New England were:
Fluff - It's not like any marshmallow cream. It's light and fluffy and sooooo good. Make a peanut butter sandwich with it and you've got a fluffernutter (oh how I miss fluff).
Moxie - My dad lived on this stuff. I thought it was disgusting but never saw it anywhere else. It's a soda, and dad said it is made from natural ingredients. When you first drink it, it tastes like Sarsaparilla, but it makes you burp and comes up like kerosene (although I haven't drank kerosene before, but that's what it's like).
In California we have what is called an It's it. It is two oatmeal cookies with a nice thick chunk of vanilla ice cream between covered in chocolate. Never have found them outside of Calif. I believe the factory in in San Francisco.
Pet food - is there a web site that lists all the foods being recalled? nm
Worried about my golden retriever.

of prices continuing to go up and up. I do tend to keep my freezer and pantry fairly well filled. Certain things seem to go on sale in cycles and I try to take advantage of that. Do grow a garden and may very well enlarge it this year. Anyone else have suggestions on helping to defray the cost of putting food on the table.
Judy is right..... high protein, low carb foods

You ead my response wrong, terribly wrong
I am trying to ask what does she think it will help, not being nasty- tell me and I will try this. I would stand on my head and gargle peanut butter if I thought it would help - I wanted to know why a letter? They are thumbing their noses at the courts - commanded to appear- I was there and they werent.
My sister has multiple cats who require differnt foods. sm
She feeds them in separate rooms. She gives them 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening to eat. The overweight cat has become beautifully normal-weighted over the past year. They all do well with this arrangement as cats are only munchers cause we keep the food available all the time. I actually started restricting food times for my cats as well and they are all doing great. Hope this helps.
