OK, so here it is. I sent this once, but it did not appear, so will try again. I am 59 years old and I still believe. Don't tell me that over the years nobody has had a horrible time and didn't know where Christmas was coming from and somehow you managed to make a wonderful day for your children. Well, I have and I am not afraid to admit it. Even now my grown children often say to me, "Mom, we don't know where you got it from, but you always managed to make Christmas come around for us." Well, it was Santa sitting on my shoulder, and I will believe that until I die. Santa is a magical, wonderful feeling, that makes you dig down deep into your heart and figure out what is really important. Santa is not about religion or rituals. Santa is about being happy and feeling good. Yes, I am a Jewish Mom, but my children (their dad was Christian) have always known both religions and have always understood the religious base of Christmas. But, they have also understood that mom believes in Santa -- married Santa -- and will always be Santa. Any problems with grown ups feeling the magic and following through with it? I would be livid with this teacher and let her know. I would let the principal and the school board know. Never mind political correctness -- this has to do with allowing children to believe that dreams can come true if you work at them hard enough. It is not an educator's place to step into this role -- let the family do it in their own time.
