pizza because pizza has to cook in a 500+ oven. The stone helps when domestic ovens only go that high.

It seems like I've heard
of cases where there was sexual abuse suspected and the custodial parent STILL had to let the child go with the noncustodial parent/suspected perpetrator. And if they try to hide the child to protect him or her they get slapped with contempt of court. I think that really sucks and I hope it is not the norm. It sounds like people were more reasonable in your case.

I heard that they are shooting it down over the ocean. It's not that so much that bothers me, its the way the govt is so "flip" about it like its no big deal. I've heard other people say that they believe gvt is testing whether they can shoot down other things....feel stupid now that I can't think of all the "correct" wording, but all in all I just don't feel comfortable with it. I don't blame you for not trusting them. I must be in your generation. We have never received any information to "let" us trust them. I think its a coverup for something bigger going on though. I also think its odd that all of a sudden now we've got satellites falling from the sky???? yeah, right, sure we do...

I think it is very sad when a woman gives and gives all year long, tries to be thoughtful and generous for Christmas and probably every other gift-giving occasion, and gets no thanks at all. Maybe her DH put a lot of thought into the robe, but I doubt it.
It is about giving and not receiving and I agree with the poster below about how this holiday is really messed up. I think life is about giving, not just one holiday, but if there is such a holiday, then one should at least use that time to show his spouse that he appreciates her.
Just a little trinket from each kid that they picked out. For whatever the robe cost, he probably could have found something more personal... he does live with the woman.

I don't have anyone playing sports this year, so didn't give it a thought, but I hope you're right and that the ratings aren't affected or that they change the night it is on.
I've always heard they didn't work for
breeds like huskies. We have a 6-foot privacy fence and tacked chicken wire to the bottom of that and buried it to prevent digging.
The other problem I've heard is, how will your dog react if another dog comes into his yard? Could he defend himself from another dog emboldened by the submissive-appearance he prevents due to the invisible fence? Or would another dog coming into his yard be in danger from him? What about neighbors' cats? It may not be the best idea in a lot of situations, but some people seem to be able to use them.

For Siberian Huskies is 10-12 years, but that 13, 14, 15, even 16 or 17 years old isn't all that uncommon for the breed. Overall, they are a very healthy, hardy breed (at least they should be...) especially compared to some other breeds.
My husband loves Rotties, for example, and there's a terrible problem with bone cancer and other cancers in Rotties. There seems to be a genetic predisposition to it in the breed, and research is being done on that. We lost our second Rott at just 5 yrs old due to osteosarcoma in his front leg. After having the limb amputed, he did well for a few months, then the cancer came back. It was heartbreaking to lose him at such a young age. We lost our first Rottie to bone cancer too (in her hip), at 10 yrs old.
But with my Siberians, my first 2 (not related to each other in any way) lived to be very nearly 16 years old, and died basically due to old age, no cancer. I just lost my sweet old girl Alexx last month, on 01/10/2007. She would have been 16 yrs old on 04/02/2007. I still can't believe she's gone. I still walk into the kitchen expecting to see her there, napping. 
My remaining Siberian is 12 years old and going strong, fiesty as ever, but he has had cancer. He had a major, en block resection a little over a year ago where the specialist took out a football-size area of his thorax, including a portion of 3 of his ribs(!). Talk about traumatic (for me, my dog did fine! LOL). It was a recurrence of a spindle cell sarcoma, first noted and removed (and much smaller) 3 years earlier. *Hopefully* it won't come back again in his lifetime.
I've used Frontline and Frontline Plus off and on over the years for fleas. We've never had ticks. And since moving to where we are now, not far from Palm Springs, our vet's office has said fleas and ticks aren't a problem here, so Frontline isn't necessary. I was skeptical about that at first. But so far they're right, and we haven't had to use anything for fleas or ticks, which is a nice surprise. I do worry about the fact that such strong chemicals are put right on their skin (and I would stay away from Hartz flea/tick products too, from what I've heard), but as far as it maybe causing cancer, I don't know.
BTW, my advice to all pet owners is to consider pet insurance. We use Veterinary Pet Insurance:

I think it's worth it for the peace of mind alone, so you don't have to worry so much about the cost if your pet needs expensive vet care.

A cat is a natural predator to those small mammals and birds and I don't see any of them going extinct because of cats.
I do agree that house cats should be kept inside, but only for their own protection and that's only my opinion. My cats stay inside exclusively.

I've never heard that it prevents lice. That's a new one to me.
I always thought that children's shampoos were marketed saying that they didn't sting the eyes. I never found that to be true, however. Johnson's Baby Shampoo stings my eyes. Some contain detanglers, but I had boys who always had short hair, so that wasn't an issue for us. From the time they were babies until now, I've always bought whatever was on sale or least expensive. Most times, that turns out to be Suave.

Back in the early 1990s I took a course called Notereader Scopist. They read court reporter notes (those long skinny papers that looks like a cash receipt) and types them into documents. Not sure if that is the same thing. I had found the course through something called At Home Professions but just didn't finish it because it was too expensive. Unsure if this is what you are referring to. I do remember it was a blast learning.

Her life was not surprising to me. She was just a looker, just gorgeous if you ask me, and so she was like a bright light you couldn't take your eyes off, yet annoying if you stared too hard!

What is the MOST outrageous thing you've seen/heard while working in the medical field?
While working in an oncology office I had a heartbreaking conversation with a newly-widowed young mother of 2. Apparently healthy husband suddenly turned up with a brain tumor, which killed him pretty quickly. The life insurance company did their due diligence and investigated the case, since the policy was issued only weeks before the diagnosis; but the patient had NO indications of illness at the time, and the medical records basically proved the negative; he hadn't been to a doctor because he wasn't sick.
In the course of discussing the point with the claims examiner, the widow told him it wasn't about the money (although she was going to need it to raise her 2 kids by herself). She'd FAR rather have her husband back. The claims examiner said he'd far rather have the woman's husband back too...
... wait for it ...
... because if he were still alive, he'd still be paying premiums to the insurance company!

I suggested the widow contact the state insurance commissioner's office and report the guy. Even if what he said/did was not precisely illegal, it was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

Work well with children. I have not used them personally, but know others who have especially one case where the child had a speech impairment as well. Good luck and I'd say even though expensive it may be worth a try. I was also told that the teachers are very nice as well as knowledgable. I hope this holds true in other states.

I also am in Georgia and perhaps you have listened to Clark Howard or Elise Glink who fills in sometimes for him. She was talking the other day to a guy who wanted to get into nursing. The opportunities are endless right now. Places are actually paying for any and all tuition, etc. you need - in return you work for them for ?? don’t know the length but if I were you, I would definitely go for it. The pay is otta sight, the rewards many, and you know with MTing how it is going! I do not think you would be doing the wrong thing if you did. I hope you will look into the issue of having the lot paid for you, what could you lose? I had heard Vitamin D was a good source for bones,
of course and being as I along with others on here do not get out as much as we should sometimes, had heard maybe I should take. I have pain in my ribs (checked for other things and scans, x-rays turned out ok) so started this morning with 4000 units. Anyone else take and if so what dosage? My ribs were hurting before I got out of bed and since seem to be feeling some better.

The coal stove heats our whole house except the bedroom when the door is closed at night and the fan DH put through the wall is so noisy, you can't sleep for about a week until you get used to it.

I've always been in fairly good shape (ski, bike, etc.) But - sm
there are some people I skate with who are heavy and skate just fine. One girl in particular is actually obese, but is an amazing skater & dancer.... very flexible, too. Unfortunately she has chronic ankle problems that have kept her off skates for the past couple years, so she bikes, instead. One skater has only one leg... has a fake one made to fit his inlines, and he goes like the wind... I sure can't catch him! :)
You are living together and so you've got a pretty good idea
of what life will be like if you are married. It'll be the same. He won't change and 10 years is far too long to wait on him to grow up, unless you started dating him when he was 12.
Move on, learn to be independent, and maybe keep that friendship alive with the other interested man. I was "just friends" with my husband for 3 years. Then it became more serious and we found that we loved each other and have been married for 25 years.
Move on. There are way better men out there.

There's also the issue of consent. Its an irreversable procedure - what if your son missed having a foreskin? I've read about men having wished that their parents didn't make that decision for them. I don't see a difference between male and female circumcision; its just that we've been conditioned to believe that male circumcision is good. Its just as barbaric and cruel.

My mother fed us homemade
formula made from Karo syrup and canned milk. I'm only 36. She also made the nipple holes bigger to get serial in those bottles once we started waking her up too often. Plus, let my husband get up once in a while, darn...., and no I'm not milking myself like a cow so he can feed the baby through a bottle. Another thing, these mothers wind up feeding these babies from their breast until they start school. Ooohhhh ahhhh... duh! Oh the stories!
Homemade Bread
I'd like to start making my own bread. I can only tolerate easy recipes and not too time consuming. Is making your own bread easy, moderate or difficult? if it's easy, do you have any tried and true recipes?
Should I buy a bread machine? What can you tell me about bread machines and their ability to pop out good tasting bread, also, with bread machines, do you have to use a pre bought packet or can you stick your own ingredients in there and bake?

Well, I'm old-fashioned. I've never used a bread machine in my life. But I do make four loaves of bread at least every week and my family can't live without it (I say in all modesty). I've won blue ribbons at the County Fair for it. This is how I do it - This may seem very long and involved, but it's because I'm trying to describe it really thoroughly. Don't let the length of the instructions put you off. Do try it!
The initial makinag and kneading of the dough only takes about twenty minutes - the rest is waiting time, mostly.
I start with dry yeast, one package in a half a cup of hot tap water, stir it up and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. While it's sitting, I put three cups of hot water in a big mixing bowl with two teaspoons of salt, two tablespoons of sugar, and a quarter stick of margarine (or butter if you prefer). I heat that in the microwave for three minutes.
Then I add two cups of flour to the ater/salt/sugar/ butter and stir it up. You'll need a strong spoon because it'll get pretty thick later on. I have a favorite wooden spoon that I use. Once that's mixed in (it doesn't have to be completely smooth) add the yeast, then add another half cup of hot water to rinse the rest of the yeast out of the cup and into the dough. Stir that up, and then start adding your flour. I start with a total of ten cups, usually get close to twelve. You can do that all at once or two cups at a time. After it gets too hard to stir, it's time to put some of the last two cups of flour on the table and dump the dough mixture out onto the table. Then comes the fun, especially if you're stressed. Start kneading the dough, adding more flour when it gets sticky. Depending on how humid it is, you may need another cup or two cups. I usually add about half a cup at a time gradually each time it gets sticky. If you put in too much all at once, it may turn out too heavy. At eleven or twelve cups, you will hit the point when your hands don't stick to the dough anymore. Then just knead it for another several minutes until it's smooth "as a baby's bottom" was how I was taught.
Then I wash out the bowl and dry it with a clean dish towel, spray the inside with cooking spray, put the dough in, then thoroughly wet the towel (not dripping, but don't wring it out all the way either), and cover the bowel. That'll keep the dough from drying out while it's rising. Set in in a warm place to rise. In the summer I set it on my stove with the light on over it. In the winter, I'll put a pan of warm water in the oven on the bottom shelf and put the bowl on the top shelf.
Let it rise to double its original size, about an hour. Can be more. Dough is very forgiving if you let it rise too much. Then fold it in on itself, recover it and let it rise again. I usually let it rise at least two or three times. The more often you let it rise, the lighter it will be.
After the last rising, I spray my four loaf pans with cooking spray, then take the dough out, put in on the table and divide it into four parts with a large knife. Then, fold it in and under to form a loaf and put it in the loaf pan. Set that to rise to double. At about 45 minutes, start preheating the oven to 375 degrees. When the dough is the height you want (it will rise a little more in the oven), stick it in the oven for 30 minutes. It should be golden brown on top when it's done. Take the loaves out of the pans immediately and put them on a cooling rack so moisture doesn't accumulate under them.
The family will attack the first loaf of bread immediately, be forewarned! The other three, when they are almost cool, put them in regular bread bags you have saved from store-bought bread. I freeze mine, because this has no preservatives and does get stale quickly. It's best eaten within a day or two of making it or thawing it. That's never a problem in my house.
I hope you try it. It's a great feeling, getting all the accolades from your family and friends. PS - if you're lactose intolerant, like me, there are no milk products in it. I never eat store-bought bread anymore. It also makes the best toast in the world, and French toast?!? Wonderful!

She's absoloutely correct! I love making my own bread. My kids are gone now, so I don't make as much, but give it away. It doesn't last long if it sticks around here and there is such a good feeling when you've done it yourself. No preservatives and junk included. That being said, I do have a bread machine as well, have rarely used it, but when I do, it does a gresat job and I can make more types of bread because I can just throw everything in and let the machine do the rest. It really does turn out good and I am freed up to do other stuff, like work!!

I lost my bread book in a flood here in Florida when there was 8 inches of water in my house and my recipes were on the bottom shelf of my cabinet (among other recipes) and have not made any bread since. My mother bought me an "earthenware bowl" that she paid a lot for to rise the dough which retains the temperature. I only have 3 loaf pans but will buy another. I bought a breadmaker machine but did not use it much. I used it for rye bread which is hard to knead because it is more coarse. My family loved my bread and I pretty much loved to have my hands in that dough. I know it is somewhat exhausting, but I find it almost therapeutic and stress reducing. I am going to try your recipe.

What's the best cut of meat for homemade philly...
steak subs? Our family loves them and we usually buy the frozen philly cheese steak meat...but I just can't stomach the smell of it even cooking anymore because it is sooooo greasy. I want to try to make some homemade from a fresh cut of meat. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Homemade Pizza Dough
Does anybody have a recipe for a good pizza dough recipe that does not take a long time to make?

Not a dinner idea- but a cheap way to make a bag-full of toffee:
1 cup butter, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 12 oz. bag chocolate chips, 3/4-1 cup chopped nuts (i use salted peanuts chopped up) saltine crackers:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Fill pan side-by-side with crackers. Heat butter and brown sugar. Boil for 3 minutes. Pour on top of crackers. Put pan in oven for 5 minutes. Remove from oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips on top to melt- after a couple minutes, easy to spread around with a spatula. Sprinkle the nuts on top- kinda push them into the chocloate so they don't fall off when done. Chill in fridge and break into pieces.
Keeps well in a zip-lock baggie in fridge. Not the real deal, but sure it good and a lot cheaper than candy bars!
