I'm sorry.  I just assumed that you were bashing animal shelters like a lot of folks do on this board.  I get it, they do get a bad rep sometimes, but don't understand it.  MOST of the people who work at animal shelters really do care about the animals and want to try and help them find homes.  We clean up after them, feed them, play with them, give them the love and attention that they need.  We are thier very best friends in life during the time that they are with us.

However, there is a down side to working in an animal shelter, but a very necessary one.  I remember the first time I had to be a part of a euthanization.  I cried for like two days.  But, looking back, I know it was necessary.  It was a very sweet, very old and very sick doggie.  He would have died eventually and I do not see the point in making an animal go through the ordeal of surgery, antibiotics, etc.  Better to let them go in peace rather than make them suffer for their last days.

And by the way, in the two years that I worked at that shelter we probably had about 200 pits come through our doors and we only put one of them to sleep.  The rest were found homes!  If I took nothing else away from that job...at least I know that I made a difference in those poor, misunderstood animal's lives.
