I'm so with you! I did join WW, and it seems to be the only thing that works for me.

In Reply to: Okay. I'm starvin! Started on Jan 1 to not diet, but to cut my portions in HALF and sm - Starvin

I only do it online, though. I don't go to meetings. But I do count up the points. I'm Italian and grew up eating a healthy mediterranean diet, pasta, a little bit of meal, lots and lots of vegetables and fish. But, I got away from it. Lucky for me I like a lot of good things, I just have to motivate myself to prepare them. And because I'm Italian, I just can't, can't do the no-bread thing. I think refined carbs are bad, and I struggle with sugar cravings. I like sweet things, and I've been trying to detox from them.
I have a funny video about dieting and no carbs from Lewis Black posted on myspace. (myspace.com/lellers). It always makes me laugh because I like my bread! I think that if I can stay away from the sweet treats, (and yes, exercise), I'll get the extra weight off. But, oh! I do love ice cream and pie!

it's the only thing that works for my severe insomnia
i have tried everything else.  it's amazing how it is impossible for me to get to sleep.  even when i'm exhausted and think i don't need anything, my insomnia is so severe i cannot sleep unaided.  i think my "off-switch" is broke.  i get so jealous of people who yawn and say they're tired.  my friends can call me at 3 in the morning and i'm as bright and cheerful as if it's noon.
The only thing that works for my youngest daughter is Prell shampoo. nm

It doesn't matter "where you stand." What works for you is fine. What works for me is fine.
Comparing ourselves as to frequency is ridiculous.
Anyone want to join me....sm
at my pity party tonight?  I'm feeling really sad.  My oldest granddaughter's birthday is one week before mine, both of them coming up soon - not that the birthday itself bothers me, but I'm remembering how last year was the first year that I had been able to celebrate both with my youngest daughter.  Since then, my ex and I have separated - which I think I'm handling pretty well.  But being estranged once again from my baby is so hard to cope with - I had felt we were VERY close as she was growing up, and I truly don't know what I have done to turn her the other way.  I'm just grateful that my oldest daughter and I seem to have become closer in the last six months, even compared to when I lived with her after her divorce to help out with her children.
Better yet, see if you can join a
credit union. I have been in one since 1969. They pay me every month with interest instead of charging me handling. Not that it is very much, still 30 cents or whatever is better than being charged whatever the current rates are.
Join the club!
I cannot get mine threaded! Couldn't believe that. Will wait until after the holidays to try again.

Let him join 4H by all means

My neice has participated in 4H going on her 5th year since she was 8.  jShes' now 12 and she shows her horse, plus she does enters cooking projects, art, scrapbooking, and crafts.  There are so many different interests and programs for any kid.  Besides horses, there are rabbits and guinea pigs, plus all the assorted farm animals.  There's archery and competetive shooting.  Public speaking, woodworking, art projects, cooking, sewing, dog training, just about anything you can think of.  Your son doesn't not have to have a horse to participate.  Join a club that has a horse group.  A lot of times the leaders have horses they'll loan a kid for the year or know someone who will.  Don't let that stop you.  If you're in a position to do it, you can lease a horse.  That's what we did at first, we leased her horse for 6 months and then ended up buying him.  4H helps keep them out of trouble.  Teaches them responsibility and gives them self-esteem.  It's a family organization, so you and your husband can partiicipate if you like, they're always looking for adult volunteers.  Check with the county extension office where you live or in another county, if you like.  You should be able to find info online.  There's no residency requirement.  Tell them what you're looking for and they'll try to find a club that's a good fit for your son.

Kendra, join in whenever. You would think with all the
negative that NO one else ever heard some of these things. Now, really! I left out some really juicy ones. Guess I will have to do a part 2, you think?
I know you probably don't want to hear this - but join a church! sm
I would be homeless and helpless without my church friends/family. They are better to me than my own family.
i received numerous cards and most were from church folks. There are people who care! I wish I had your name and address because I'd send you something special. I'm serious.
1. Go back to counseling. 2. Join a SM
divorce singles group. They are all over. Many churches have them.

3. Volunteer. You get to feel good about yourself and get to meet other people.

Good luck. I've been there.
I think you do want to join you're just to shy to say so - group hug? nm

8 things I really did not want to know about you (I will start and join in)

1)  I love to smell gas, damp cellars, wet grass (the mowing kind!)

2) I love green olives but most of all I love to drink the juice also.

3)  Got angry with my father, moved, changed my phone number and did not give him the new address or number for months.

4)  I could never be Angelina Jolie because I would rather adopt animals rather than children.

5)  Oh, no one knows this, got angry in the 2nd grade at another girl jumping me in the line before going to lunch and stuck my pencil into the top of her head in a hissy-fit. I still remember her name.

6)  Had my first sexual encounter at age 15 at my mother’s home and hid the sheets, of all places, under my next door neighbor’s house. Over the many years since he and I have occasionally called each other. I still dream though don’t touch.

7)  I have some different eating habits. I used to eat white rice, milk and sugar as a breakfast food (the rice bothers me now so don’t eat as much) and I also tear up white bread and put in regular milk- I know it is soggy and my family gags but have done this all my life.

8)  Happily married now for 9 years but OMG can never forget about that delicious sex I had with my ex-husband. I mean, Delicious with a capital D.

I'll join you in Jurassic Park!
I'm a dinosaur, too. I don't see the need for teenagers to have their own cars. But, my eldest did inherit his grandfather's sturdy little car. He was nearly 18 when that happened, and his high school was in the next county. For the last six months of school, he skipped the hour-long bus ride and was able to drive to school and save about 40 minutes in his commute to school. He drove on the days he needed to be home to work after school at a movie theater, about 12 hours a week. He was also a great help to me in driving his younger brothers to events when my schedule was over-booked.

I have friends who gift their children brand new, expensive cars at the age of 16, and I just don't understand that. The kids seem to be using the vehicles to further their social lives, and they certainly aren't paying attention to the road. And you are very correct about so many angry and distracted drivers on the road. It's a scary thing to put a teenager on the road alone. This is why we raised the age level to 17 in our home, even though the Commonwealth of PA seems to think that 16-1/2 is age appropriate for driving.
Hey, I'll join you if you're paying ;-)
And I was just stressing over paying $500 for rental car (I'm driving), hotel, and baseball tickets for a rinky-dink 3-day trip 250 miles down the road. Still have to spring for gas money and food, but I'm feeling a little better after reading your post LOL. Of course, I'm not going to Las Vegas...

Well, have fun anyhow!! :-)
Yes, you ladies, join in with me and share your 8 things!! nm

join me --- misery loves company

Truthfully, though, no one can quit until it's their time.  I just had to finally get really disgusted with myself.  I owe this to my child.  My best friend just died at age 54 two weeks ago from lung cancer.  My father died at age 58 of the same.  My sister is currently in the hospital with pulmonary emboli (even though she has never smoked).  And lastly, rumor has it the price is going up to $8 a pack in my state.  By just not smoking for the last five days, I already have an extra $50 in my wallet.  Wow.  I am the smartest woman and I know, and yet how can I continue to be so stupid?  That's where I'm at mentally.  I really want to succeed this time.  Now, where are those carrot sticks?

Please join with me in weeping over my weight and sleep issues.

Work is slow right now (and has been for a while).  I am getting up earlier to get a few lines, going to sleep later hoping to get a few lines, and taking a nap in between to make up for lack of sleep.  My 8 hour job has turned into 18, and my weight is trying desperately to keep pace.  I eat when I am bored.  I do not want to leave and go shopping just in case work should happen to appear.  My house is clean.  The dogs well fed.  Everything is fine except for my scale.  I really wish I could get a scale that lied, that way it would fit in with my job.  EMPLOYER: You would only be expected to work an 8 hour day.  EMPLOYEE (4 weeks later): Yeah right.  Eight hour days give or take 10 hours.  ME GETTING ON MY SCALE: You weigh only XX amount of pounds.  SCALE’S RESPONSE: Darling, you are too beautiful, and you weigh 10 pounds less then yesterday.

Expanded for you in above post...You're welcome to join mine...SM
With your sense of humor, you'd fit right in with the down to earth part of us!! My DD (dear daughter) would have a blast trying to make us think she was innocent enough that she doesn't understand a bunch of your jokes!! She's 13 and negotiating that Mommy's Little Angle versus Teenage Devil part of life, and tries to hold back the snickers when a dirty joke is told. The good old days were when she was reading a page of blond jokes and really didn't understand the ones with sexual inuendo. How quickly those days went by...

My 19-year-old daughter wants to join the Army. I'm very scared at the thought. Any advice out th
Before the Iraq war, I would have been more excited that she wanted to do something positive with her life for a change, but this thought is scary as we know people that have lost their children in the war. I know in some ways this could turn her life around and be what she needs as she is very immature and is going down the wrong road, but are there other alternatives.  A lot of people tell us it's still a good time for kids. Any thoughts out there?

Are there any church groups or other groups you can join? SM
The more you are around people you can feel comfortable with, the better.

I'm shy too. This field is very difficult if you are shy, since, even when I worked in-house, I was just sitting there with headphones on.

Also, another tip, having girlfriends are a good way of meeting boyfriends. It's difficult, I mean, socializing can actually seem like another full time job, but do it. You will be happier for it.
I would join a church or church group. SM
I'm sure you will find someone like yourself, who likes to do the things you do, whether friend is male or female.

I'm laughing, because I am not religious fanatic. I do go to place of worship, but believe me, not fanatical.
Let's see if this works
nm
WW Works
I am a successful WW-er, having lost over 75 pounds. WW allows you to have all your favorites, but in a sensible fashion. There is no food category that is not allowed. That's the key for me. WW trains you in how to eat with healthier food choices and it is definitely a lifestyle change as regards food choices. Of course, as with any weight loss program, you cannot return to eating whatever you want in unlimited amounts once you have lost your weight. You must continue to take the tools you were taught and use them each and every day with your food selections. I would definitely recommend attending meetings, though, as accountability is always helpful in staying the course.
it works for me! LOL. (nm)

Nothing works better than
hanging out in the sun to dry, so fresh smelling, great for sheets also.
What works for my little one...
We always alternating Tylenol and Motrin every four hours. This works better than giving either one by itself. I put him in a tee shirt and his underwear and use cool compresses on his head. Hope your little one is better soon!
what works for me
is medicine, Maxalt.
This works for me!

No but I know what works well sm
I used green tea patches in the past. They don't sell them anymore (probably because it was too good and you'd have to get an Rx), but you can still find them at sites on the internet. Also Hoodia is really awesome. I am taking Hoodia 2 a day and the pounds are just flying off. It is something from cactus discovered that the natives take in the jungle for stamina and to keep fit. It is not expensive at all. I got mine on e bay but found it and also green tea pills at Walmart not expensive. I have had more energy and feel better since I have been taking these 2 things and total cost for the 2 was no more than 25 bucks for the month. Sorry I don't know about the product you asked about but I wanted to suggest to you some cool things. Good luck!
Try T-Gel. Works for us.
..
This works!
I did the same. It only took one summer (last year) of doing this and then we slowly tapered off the chore chart. I would "forget" to print it off the computer from time to time. Since then I no longer have to ask but when I do it is already done, just had to get in the habit of doing it without question, I think. My child is like OPs that he really is a great kid but for some reason brushing teeth was a nightmare twice a day every day. The only difference in our allowance chart was that for each item completed (without being asked or questioned) my child would get 25 cents - totaled at the end of the week. He still had to do everything, it was just a matter of initiative and no arguments on his part. I think max would be $5 a week or something like that. I had it calculated out so I new there was a limit. Truth be told, he asked for more than $5 of stuff every time we went to the store (and that was another fight) so this did double-duty in that if we went to the store he had to use his own money. Amazing how picky kids get when its their money.
Yes, but I am not too sure how that works.

Is that like a second morgage?

Do you barrow against your house at a lower APR?

what works for me -sm
I get a massage once a week NO MATTER WHAT! I have been going to the same lady for 5 years, who gives me a break on the price. For 30 mins it is $25, which is a bargain and SO worth it. I also schedule lunch every Friday with a friend of mine and go nearly no matter what else. You have got to make time for yourself and be selfish about it. Best wishes! :-)
If you have MS Works - sm

Use the spreadsheet program and throw it in there.  Then I think it's data/sort and go from there.

Yes, please let me know how it works out(sm)

The bedroom is still quite cold at night depending on the temperature outside when you close the door. Hubby never cared because as a child, his room didn't have heat either, so he was used to it, but now that he's older, he's getting to be a little bit too much to handle.

He tried a gas wall heater but it used to much fuel. We tried an Eden Pure, but it died before the winter was over.

He only needs the room around 60 so he cut a hole in the wall above the door and put a fan in to draw the heat into his room but the fan is so noisy, it's hard to get a good night's sleep.

It works!
When mine were smaller they had more fun unwrapping and playing with the boxes.

They are all between 12 and 17 now. I told them to count their blessings if they get Christmas dinner this year let alone presents. This year kinda stinks, but I am sure they will get a few things they each want. I always figure it out.
where my DH works
There are boards (electronic and physical) where employees can post job trades all over the country they would like to make. It has not included houses yet, but you might try local employers near your home or chamber of commerce pages of your nearest town where people would be looking on the internet from far away.
However, that only works if...
people on welfare are being tested, otherwise, they just end up there eating up more of our tax money, so I really don't know if that is a good idea. My point was that I don't see why one would find it humiliating.
Hope It Works
You're welcome. Let me know if it works for you.

I hope that works for you!
Good luck! :-)
Here's how it works at our household....sm
This is for our 6-year-old....

1. Verbal warning to stop the negative behavior.

2. If she continues then she receives a time out for 6 minutes. Time out is spent in a chair and she is allowed to do nothing while sitting there.

3. If she continues with the negative behavior or talks back about having the time out then she loses TV privileges for the day.

4. If the negative behavior still continues then the restrictions are increased to not being allowed to play with the neighbor next door if it's early in the day, or not being allowed into the art room if it's after dinnertime (her favorite room to go to is the art room).

5. If the negative behavior still continues then if it's early in the day she is put down for a nap as often times a nap will get the bad behavior to stop, and if it's around dinnertime or later she is put to bed early.

Kids respond to consistency so be sure that whatever route you take with your kids that they know ahead of time what correct behavior is expected as well as the consequences for negative behavior. Reward them when they're being good for a certain time period. Smaller kids respond well to stickers and a sticker chart that they can redeem "x" stickers for a small prize. We use a grab bag of things I got at the dollar store that she is allowed to grab something out of the bag (without seeing what is in there) every few days for good behavior. When she came to live with me at age 4 (she's our foster-to-adopt child) she had horrible behavior and I would remind her every day if she was good she could have it at the end of the day, then weaned it to every other day, every 3rd day and now it's used once a week. Initially I would get through all 5 layers of discipline constantly with her but now it's very rare that I have to go past the TV restrictions to get her to make the right choice and behave.

Neither my husband nor I believe in spankings and even after the adoption is finalized in a few months we will not spank her. It's more effective to take away privileges and that lasts longer than a swat on the butt does.
I'm not sure how it works on a built-in ...
but you should be able to play the DVD and, if the VHS player is also a recorder, you should be able to record a VHS tape. Otherwise you might need to hook up a second VHS recorder and tape from the DVD player. Like I said, not sure about a combo but you should be able to check the instruction book. Good luck.
My son is young and works....sm
He went to a lot of trouble to get me a necklace that was a heart, said mom on it and had little "fake" diamonds. He is young, loves to work and it took a lot to save his money to buy gifts for everybody himself. I offered to help but he refused. This is not a necklace I would have chosen myself but because it was carefully selected by somebody that loves me that is what makes it so special. While it might not be something I would "normally" wear. You can bet because of the love and thought that was put into it I will proudly wear it daily because it was carefully chosen for me. How do I know? I was with him shopping and he was about in tears because he wanted me to "go to a different spot" so he could make his special purchase without me watching. While it didnt cost hundreds of dollars, yet was not cheap for a young person to buy I will cherish it forever and most certainly wear it proudly right along with the "real diamond" jewlery that I do have. If you ask me it is just as beautiful as it was a gift from the heart.
If you know anyone that works at a hospital, they
and wind up throwing the old ones away.  That is how I got one in my possession.  Old or not, it could still be resourceful at points even in our new wave of technology online.  Just a thought.
Yes, there is something that works, I know because hubby
did have sleep apnea, which is not just snoring but actually could be deadly. I knew what it was before his sleep study. He snored tremendously bad and worse when he was extremely tired. His brother who also has fell asleep, running off the road. Back to the deadly part of it, your esophagus collapses during periods of apnea and a person can suffocate. After sleep study, hubby put on continuous positive airway pressure. He always sleeps on his back and it has been extremely easy for him to wear. There is not a single peep out of him at night any more, total silence. Not only the quiet at night but also the quality of sleep is so improved for him. If you love the person in your life this is happening to, you will definitely sit up a sleep study and see.
If you find something that works, let me know!! sm
I suffer from allergy/sinus problems all year round. Last night my face was throbbing with pressure and pain. Not fun. My doc gave me Wellbid-D for it, which helps some. And I use saline spray occasionally, too, especially when it's windy or dusty. I probably should use it more. To make things even more complicated, Oklahoma (where I live) passed a law that everything containing pseudephedrine has to be kept inside the pharmacy and bought directly from the pharmacist. It has cut down meth labs here in Oklahoma something like 75%, which is terrific, but it makes life difficult for us sinus/allergy sufferers.....
Oh, thank goodness I did not get the other that really works
because I used on my child at a young age, they do not even produce it any more, first name Glovers Mange Medicationhe and then Glovers medication. My daughter had what looked to be cradle cap but she was older, toddler. Being elderly does not excuse a person for being nice. I could not get what I volunteered to get on my own, she owed me zilch for buying it and I told her that when I gave it to her and if she did not want throw it AWAY. I never go through her medicines to see what she has or does not have. You can no longer buy the Glovers but the pharmacist suggested a green tea type solution- his choice, not mine but from now on I will know just not to be available to buy anything. Looking to be offended, by my aunt?? No, always there to try to assist and I can be offended each and every day if I wanted to have that done by calling someone here in town, say city hall, the telephone company, cable. Loads of others who work in the offending business. By the way, I am also considered elderly and I have aches and ailments like the next person but that does not mean I can be rude just because my neuropathy kicks in.
That works during the day for the most part, but...
at night I give him a set amount before I go to bed. If he eats it all, I get woken up at 4 in the morning! He'll pull on the blinds, knock over my lamp, and if I shut the door he starts digging at the carpet (and I'm renting!). I tried making him exercise more, but he usually just stares while I play with the toy!
