Your poor daughter! I hope they don't change the rules on pepper spray. I think students should have a right to carry that to protect themselves! I don't see it as a weapon. It's not like a gun or a knife that could kill someone - it's just for self-defense, which teenage girls need, unfortunately. Good job fighting for your daughter and sticking up for her!
As far as the people who made the rude, ignorant comments to you, I don't think people like that even read entire posts, and if they do they don't comprehend them! It seems like some people just pick one thing out of a post and try to say you're wrong when it's obvious they don't even know what they're talking about. So annoying! Whoever said the rude things is probably someone who is lonely and ran out of real-life people to pick on (who would put up with them for long?), so they must try to irritate people online, so try not to let them bother you too much (even though it would probably bother me too if it was my post!)

Glad she got it back. Nm
:-)
I'm so glad they believed you and took it back! NM
.
Glad she got her jacket back.

All right, Cyndiee, glad that you are back.
But what can I say?
I hate drugs and medicaments and stay away from them as long as I can, maybe therefore I am so healthy and because I have good genes.
I admit there are diseases which necessitate medicaments, but there are also people who just swallow everything that comes into their hands, without questioning it. The doctors encourage them in doing so.
Sometimes I type reports (mostly AVR) where the doctors prescribe up to OVER 10 medicaments to a patient, this is just uncomprehendable to me when I think of all the possible side effects, interactions and the effect on the liver and kidneys, etc...I feel sick to my stomach. Can this really be good, in any way?
Generally I do not trust doctors much. They are all more or less quick-fixer, because that is actually what the patient expects from them, a 'quickfix'.
But if medicaments which offer a quickfix in the short run and feel good at the moment, are also good in the long run, is very questionable.
Doctors are here to prescribe medicaments and they are encouraged to do so by the pharmaceutical companies. The first to take drugs which are new to the market and released by the FDA for 'studies', are always the guinea pigs, we have seen this with HRT, antidepressants, especially Prozac etc...
I am fiercely anti-medicaments, as already said, the only medicament I trust is aspirin and I take also supplements, I believe in those.
Patients should ask the doctor when they get a medicament prescribed, 'Doctor, do I reallyy need this?'
I have great respect for surgeons, dentist and gynecologists who deliver babies, not so much for other things, like prescribing hormones and advice on menopause etc....
there is still a lot of 'guessing' and 'experimenting' going on.
Glad to see you back, Jan.
Am I too old to go back to school? I'm 40 (sm)
Have wanted to go back for a few years but husband says I am too old.
re: too old to go back to school
Um, the bottom line is, no, you're not. Lots of people go back to school that are WAY beyond their 40's. I seem to have turned into a "lifelong" student (I'm 44)...I'm always fitting in a class here and there. One of these days I'll get my degree! I would advise you to take a night or weekend class, as you'll have more working adults there then the typical 19 yr. olds. Good luck!
Back to school
How is everyone doing with back to school? I'm guessing that's why the board has slowed a bit.
An update to the school lunch thing that I posted last week. Hubs and I decided to give our 10yo the benefit of the doubt and see what happened without imposing guidelines. Wasn't all bad but definitely needed clarification on what's expected. Lunch is his favorite part of school - I wonder why with ice cream, french fries, soda, and pizza to choose from! I called the school and they are starting the program where we can go online at home and see what he chooses, updated every day; it is just not running yet. So to the one who suggested that I ask about that, Thank you! I wonder how many other schools have this and the parent's don't know.
I'm going back to school!!!!
Sorry ya'll I am just so excited! I've really been wanting to go back and finish my psychology degree and now I can! We're gonna have to sacrifice some things (bye bye cable TV and cell phone extras) but if I don't go now when will I??
I just hope that this economic mess doesn't mess up my Stafford loan.... :/
back to school
I worked in application software for 18 years (degree in computer). They started outsourcing programming jobs to India about 10 years ago. I quit because of the politics that are constantly going on in corporate America. Businesses make stupid decisions based on who they know and like instead of what's best for everyone. At least with MT, I can stay away from the politics.
back to school
I loved what I did. I just couldn't take the politics and corporate greed on a day-to-day basis anymore. I'm not the type of person who can sit back and watch this without saying something. Then, you are typed as being negative because you don't agree with management decisions. But, then there are politics every where you go today.
Glad you're back, even if a bit damaged! ;) nm

UUHHH, glad you are back Hayseed? LOL
you really have been missed!
U, ttoo, am glad to see you back,. I always wondered
that they sent you home with fever and so much pain.
Never hesitate to go to the ER when you are in severe pain and have fever.
Better safe than sorry.
Especially if one THINKS having a heart attack or stroke.
Because here 'time is of the essence.'

re: kiddos back in school
Yeppers! My kiddos were back in school on August 15th! I have two boys, one a senior and the other a sophomore. Almost empty nester....we won't push that too fast though...lolol
Oh and I'm in southern Utah!
I am 40 also and thinking about going back to school. sm
My only problem is I have a son in college now and a daughter a Sophomore in high school. Don't know that we can afford for me to go to school at this time. In my case, I believe the children's education must come first so they have a brighter future.
Still pondering the idea!
That brings back unpleasant memories. Glad that's over with. nm
nm
Hi, Ella! Glad to see you back, witty, as usual.....nm
nm
Your kiddos back to school yet & what state are you in? nm
s
I will be 40 in August and am back in school after 20 years -
I will be graduating with my associates degree in accounting in December. May go on for my 4 year, but may just do an associates in business management also. I am like you - ready to ditch the MT world.
I just got back from buying a sympathy card for my brother's MIL, glad I did now. nm

Update - has agreed to send him back to school
Thanks everyone for all your advice. I prayed about it (and prayed that I would say the right things and not the wrong ones) and then I called my ex, who after discussing it for a couple hours, agreed to send him back to school with a note that he was not to go in the locker room unless the school has sanitzed it recently. He also agreed to take the child to his doctor for a checkup and to make sure his immunizations are current, and to see if the doctor had any input regarding anything else that should be done. Hopefully he will do as promised.
Call the school. I had a threat like this in my high school and they cancelled school that day.
Thankfully, because the person making the threats was found with material for home made pipe bombs and quit a bit of ammunition and a shotgun. He was arrested and charged. Never allowed back in the school.
I think it would be safer to call the school and get classes cancelled for a day to investigate versus make a scene in the parking lot, especially if the student with the knife is inside with the knife.
Good luck. If nothing happens, pull your child out of school for a week. See what happens. I know that sounds horrible, but small towns is where this happens most often.
Sounds like my kids...on a school day "we just got home from school!" on a vacation day....sm
But this is our vacation! My husband takes vacation days and leaves town without us...lol! He would never dream of taking a day off to work around the house!
How is the school's fault if Johnny comes to school armed?
And how is the school's fault if off campus people are getting jumped? Everybody wants to blame the schools, but the reason places have gone "zero tolerance" is because every parent whose kid gets popped for an illegal weapon says, "Oh, my little pookie wouldn't do that." Which is exactly what the parents of every perpetrator of school violence has said. At 15, this girl should have been aware that it was verboten and, if they felt that strongly it was necessary, kept it hidden. If she is not capable of thinking that part through, maybe she shouldn't be trusted with pepper spray anyway.
How is this kid in school with chronic infestation? School nurse

Then they can get right back on their tires and rafts and float on back to Cuba! nm

Back-to-back black swans that look like (sm)
a giant moustache. My MIL painted it for us and put our last name on it and my DH nailed it to an outside storage room door. It looks ridiculous, and when the kids have other kids over they always ask why we have a giant moustache on our door!
Hayseed was back a few weeks back
But we haven't heard from her since. I miss her too. I hope she's doing okay.
In our school district you can go to any school that you want
but you actually have to pay if you don't live in the District. The private schools here are outrageously priced. You could almost send your child to a community college for the amount they charge.
Glad everything is okay! nm

Wow...Glad your not my mom!
Life is way to short. I had a stepmother like you. Once I lost my mittens and it was freezing outside and I had to walk. This wench actually got in her car, found me on my way to school in a snow storm and took the mismtached pair that I had found in a box. She was an awful woman and I never saw her again after I was 16 and left the house. I hope she has as miserable a life now as she deserves. Don't be a petty witch with your children. They will resent you in the end, may be even slash your perfect tires....
Glad to help!
I never really watched Frasier. I know, my loss from what I hear. Sounds very funny! Will have to start watching the reruns :)
glad i'm not you
Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine and full of compassion. It's not always about the almighty dollar. You get what you give in life and that includes taking care of ALL of God's creatures. You have no heart.
Glad I did it
I never went to the ER (I have to be almost dead before I go), so I suffered about 4 episodes before I went to the doctor. I didn't know what it was. Each attack got worse. After the last one, which was horribly painful, I went to the doctor, and didn't hesitate to get surgery done. I had a "rock garden", the tech called it. It was PACKED with stones! I had to wait almost 2 months. I was so afraid to eat I lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks! No exercise either! THAT was easy! Having never been in a hospital before as a patient, nor even having had any kind of procedure, the anticipation of the surgery was MUCH worse than the procedure. But I was a healthy person with no previous surgeries. I had almost no pain after, and took it easy. I went back to work after 3 days. I don't know what the risk would be with your recent surgery. It's something to talk out FULLY with your doctor.
You'll make the right decision.
I am soo glad it's
,
I'm glad you did. (nm)

Glad to see you came out okay!
Was your dad in the picture, by the way? You said it depends a lot on the parent, which is true, but it seems you did well for yourself on your own without much help from your mom. I have always believed that kids are born with their own set personality and demeanor, and that the parents can help foster good kids and teach them right from wrong along the way. Seems you were born a good seed.
thanks - so glad someone could help -
this is the only thing I miss about an office setting - someone always knew answers when I didn't. Home Depot, here I come! I was going to build chicken wire cages around them, but it is chipmunks that won't help either.
I had them done and am glad I did...sm
In high school I had allergy testing done which showed I was allergic to dust and mold, and we were able to control my symptoms by making changes around the house to cut down on these (i.e. plastic mattress and pillow covers).
A few years ago I developed other allergic symptoms and had food testing done which revealed that I have 3 allergies to chemicals in foods, and once I eliminated those food sources the problems went immediately away.
Good luck to you. Not everyone who has allergies needs allergy shots, but if you do they should help you. Even my dog had allergy shots and they helped her significantly!
So glad for you - sm
It's so hard for the families to not hear anything for such long periods of time.
I completely understand.
Prayers for your nephew as well as all of our servicemen and women.
Glad I Could Help
I was channeling my 4 year old. LOL.
Glad I could help a bit.
It is definitely going to be longer than 2 weeks though. Not sure on the recovery time for a vaginal so I would ask your doctor. Hopefully, your situation can be resolved without it. Again, good luck.
I'm so glad you took her
and the vet did the right tests. I'm sure you'll both be feeling much better now.
Oh, me too, so glad to see others. (nm)

Glad to help :)
I joined one of those DVD clubs to start my collection. I mostly buy the movies I know I will watch over and over again.
There are only certain movies you can do that with and these are some of them for me.
Enjoy!
Glad you are doing well too! (sm)
I also have to remind myself I have it because I am fine. Sometimes I wish I didn't even know about it! I only got tested because I knew I was at risk. So you have had it about 8 years or so longer than me, and still doing great so that's really good!
I'm so glad she seems to be doing well
If she were in serious pain, she would let you know. You love her enough to do the right thing for her. So let her tell you when she is ready. Until then, treasure each moment with her.
Glad she's a little better
She'll definitely know when she's ready. I had posted before that I had lost my cat back in March. I'm still not over. Like one of the other posters, before she died, I think she had a stroke. She died at home. Just be there for her. On her last night I told her it was okay to go, and she must have listened because she died a few hours later.
glad
I am glad you had a nice heart-to-heart discussion with her. HOpefully, this opened the door to many more conversations and it sounds like may be her friends feel they can be honest to. I just hope you can get rid of this loser and hopefully she can stay away because my concern is if she wants no more will he except that. HOnestly, i hope she is not just saying that to make you happy and I don't know her very well so who am I to say. It sounds like she is being honest with you. This was her first time correct? If so, it sounds like she realized what a huge mistake it was. People, who are you to critize her for having this guy looked into. If you had the resources you would to! I know i definitley would. Well hopefully she will listen to her brother and I would stay out of it and act like you know nothing and see if she will come to you and talk to you about it. Hope it all works out for ya!
I'm glad you were seen right away!
Now maybe you can get some relief...at least temporarily until the root canal. Ugh, makes my stomach roll to even think about it! Hang in there!
