I appreciate all of you who responded to my original post 3 weeks ago. Physically I'm doing well with the recuperation from the miscarriage and subsequent D&C and the doctor told us that we can try to conceive again in a couple of months, which we will do.
Emotionally it's still tough but getting better each day. I miss the baby very much. I'm keeping up the journal that I began during the pregnancy and writing my thoughts to the baby in heaven when I feel like it and it helps to know I'm communicating my thoughts to our baby. I'm actually able to say the words "I had a miscarriage" this week without bursting immediately into tears. My husband continues to be very supportive and we both shed tears together at times over our loss. Our friends, family and church family have been incredibly supportive and that helps tremendously and we've definitely felt their support through their prayers and expressed concern.
For any of you who encounter a woman who has had a miscarriage in the future, the best thing you can do is be there for them and show genuine concern.

I am status post bilateral mastectomy with TRAM flap 12/21/2006
my first post did not post...
-During the immediate postoperative period I found that button front pajama tops with drawstring pants were the most comfortable. About 1 week later if I had to dress, it was in some sort of button front shirt (warm b/c it was winter) and yoga pants or sweatpants. Eventually, I added in a camisole for some bit of support for the new "breasts" created in the reconstruction.
-If your friend will have postoperative drains you'll need some heavy duty safety pins to help keep the drains/tubing from pulling when toileting.
-Large ice packs were great for helping prevent/reduce swelling and also the need for narcotic pain medications. -For me the constipation/cramping cycle set up by the use of narcotics was worse than the immediate postoperative pain and I stopped using them during the day on postoperative day 10. (I would need these later on...see additional post)
-Since I had the suprapubic-tummy tuck type scar I found that my old underwear rubbed exactly on it. I did find some at Walmart..don't know the name but they are boy pants with lace V-front, and are about $3/pair. They were perfect and hit just below the scar.
-Tell your friend to start eating prunes or fiber now and be sure to get some Colace and take it preoperatively. I did so and still had terrible problems with constipation.
also: I recommend 2 books that really helped me out:
Not just One in Eight by Barbara Stevens
and
Beating Cancer with Nutrition by Patrick Quillin (formerly of Cancer Treatment Centers of America)
I hope this helps you and your friend. God Bless
A few weeks ago I included in my post
that I will include the ASPCA in my will. Yesterday I got a letter from them thanking me for deciding to do this and telling me all the ways they help animals. They said that anyone who includes the ASPCA in their estate gets mentioned in their printed reports, with or without your name published. Am I being too proud to want my name printed? It is my wish that my family and friends remember me most for my love and dedication to animals. It would be wonderful for me to see my name printed, declaring that I support this wonderful organization. Sometimes people say you should just give anonomously.
RE: E-mail status
I just heard that you can check the status of an e-mail you send to see if it has been opened or not. Anyone know how to do this?
IC status - need opinions
I started last week as an IC for a small to medium MTSO. I decided to work as an IC because I wanted flexibility in my schedule. However, they insist on a set 40-hour schedule and working holidays, just like an FTE. They are not paying me any benefits, not paying my taxes including SS, and I have run out of work 2 days already.
Now I'm told I have to work either T-giving or Christmas - this really grates on me. I get paid nothing extra for the holidays.
I didn't think it was legal for them treat ICs like FTEs. Has the working universe changed this much, or am I a sap for putting up with it? I would really like to hear from other ICs who have faced the same situation - please let me know how you handled it. I cannot afford to quit without another job, which I am looking for. TIA
once you are of celebrity status, your business....

I feel bad for you but did she choose DNR status?
My father died last year and he was a DNR and had a Living Will stating *no heroic measures* - at that point they oinly do *comfort care*.......
Very sorry for your experience!!!!! *gentle hug*
Sorry, you are wrong about her marital status
She is a single person, living with her parents. I did not get my information from CNN. I do not think she should have any fertility drugs at all- 6 kids is enough for anyone.
I would not lie about my marital status. I would tell anyone who is bold-faced enough to ask
that,"I am single because I choose to be, and am very happy, thank you."
We did after our miscarriage
My husband was worried about Gulf War Syndrome so they tested the remains. It turned out to be trisomy 22, which is very common, and the doctor said we should be able to get pregnant again. (It was a boy, too.) We did get pregnant again...that time twin girls who are now 2 and healthy!!
I had a miscarriage before
but I was the 1 pregnant and then I was pregnant after then, no testing and I bore a female later on. My husband donated sperm but I just wish he had been the 1 pregnant and had some of that pain!!
RE: Miscarriage
Hi Sixteen years ago I suffered two miscarriages. The first one I was just almost 5 months pregnant and had to deliver him. He lived for 1/2 hour and to be honest with you I think of him often. I then became pregnant again 3 months afterwards and lost that baby when I was 8 weeks. I remember not being able to walk into the mall because I would see all the mothers with their strollers and I would break down. Commercials on TV made me cry. What helped me is I wrote a journal about my feelings and things do get better. I had two healthy daughters after those two miscarriages..it does get better....but you do need to grieve.....My sympathy to you. Take care.
re: miscarriage
HI,
I don't remember how long it took for my periods to come back because it was over 17 years ago. I was 8 wks along in that pregnancy.
I too had a miscarriage
It was my first child and even now, 30 years later, I still remember how difficult that was. I had to deal with guilt feelings from that (was it something I did? Was I being punished for not being thrilled that I was pregnant?) I did go on to have three beautiful, perfect baby boys who are now grown into wonderful young men. But I still sometimes think about the one I lost.
You are in my prayers.

I had a miscarriage Friday night...sm
8 weeks into the pregnancy. Yesterday I e-mailed my friends/family the entries I had made in a journal starting the day after I found out I was pregnant. If you're interested in reading the various emotions that I've (and others that have been through a similar situation) been through then keep reading (Rick is my husband, Kyley is my stepdaughter and Kerstin is our foster child we're adopting)....
October 21, 2006:
Yesterday we found out that we were going to be your parents. Your dad & I were VERY excited when the home pregnancy test was positive & later in the day Dr. Desai confirmed that I am 4-5 weeks pregnant with you. I've had dreams for a couple of months that we had a baby and for the past 2 weeks I've had dreams every night about having you & your being at various ages from pregnancy to newborn to toddler age. I fully believe God was telling me through my creams that you were already growing in me & I didn't realize it yet.
I love your dad VERY much & we very much want you and have planned for you from the day we got married. We haven’t told anyone else about you except for my friend Lisa but will tell the others soon. We know that everyone will be excited to know that you’re joining our family.
Over the past week I’ve had a few times where I felt like you do when you go over a dip in the road too fast. I know these sensations are you moving around in my womb. Dad is already rubbing my tummy & talking to you because we want you to know how much we love you. I love saying things to you & rubbing my belly as well – it feels so good knowing you’re in there – God’s gift to us. We love you! Mom
October 22nd:
Today we told Kyley, Kerstin, grandparents, aunts & uncles about you. Everyone is excited & eager to meet you next summer. Kerstin was so happy she danced & kept screaming “we’re going to have a baby!” then asked me to take her to Target to buy you some things. She wanted to buy you a lot of things but I told her that we had to hold off a little bit as we could get somethings now & more later. I love you, baby Oldham! Mom
October 23rd:
Today we told our friends about you. They’re all eager to meet you in the future! For lunch I had Spaghetti-O’s and about an hour later I could feel you moving all around – so I think you like them!
Kertsin likes talking to you & telling you that she loves you whether you’re a boy or a girl – but she thinks she wants a brother. We’ll see as time progresses. Love, Mom.
October 25th:
Kerstin stopped people in the hallways at choir tonight telling them about you. We’re so excited!
October 29th:
We had a busy weekend, baby. Your nana sent you some booties. We went to Kerstin’s soccer game, the Smyrna Jonquil Festival, church & Drew’s soccer game and and didn’t make me feel sick at all. However, some Wendy’s french fries with supper didn’t settle well with indigestion agalore. Dad & I love you & are excited that this week you grow arms, legs, eye rims, intestines & pancreas. You’ll be quite busy for sure! Love, Mom.
October 30th:
Hello sweetheart! I continue to have occasional sensations of you & love every minute of it & knowing you’re growing inside of me. You are very much loved by me, your dad and sisters. Love forever, Mom.
October 31st:
We had our 1st Halloween with your being a part of our family. While at the church fall festival tonight Rick & I looked at the babies there & commented that next year you’ll be 4 months old by then. We can’t wait to dress you up & show you off!
Your dad has given me 2 very sweet toy stuffed baby dolls to remind me of your coming in the future. Your have a GREAT dad who is very excited to have you growing in me. We all love you very much! Love, Mom.
November 2nd:
Hi angel from God! I love you & want you to know that you are a true gift from God to your dad & myself. We love you immensely. Love, Mom.
November 5th:
Hi Sweetie! You’re entering your 7th week of growth. This week you’ll start developing your fingers, toes, eyes, ears, nose, intestines, & teeth. Dad & I are very excited thinking about seeing you on ultrasound on the 13th. We love you immensely & look forward to being your Mom & Dad. Love, Mom
November 7th:
Hello honey! I’ve had yet another wonderful day with you continuing to grow inside of me. I still have indigestion after eating & occasional flutter sensations, but both are neat because I know that they come from you. Dad & I love you VERY much! Love, Mom
November 9th:
Hi “Baby O” – life has been great this week knowing you’re working hard at growing to be an incredible child. Your dad & I went to an OB class at the doctor’s office tonight where they talked about your upcoming arrival. We both love you VERY much & look forward to your 1st photograph on Monday. Love, Mom.
November 11th:
Little angel, we had a good day today. Dad, Kyley, Kerstin & I went to the zoo & we look forward to taking you there in the future. Dad & I went to Hobby Lobby where dad picked the softest yarn for me to make you an afghan with. I started this project tonight. You’ve had a busy week with all of the growing you had scheduled to complete. In 2 days we get to see how well you’re doing. We love you! Mom & Dad
November 13th:
Hello honey, we went to the doctor’s office today for the ultrasound & found out that you’re not as big as we expected. They drew lab work on me & will repeat it on Wednesday to see if you’re OK. Dad & I are trying to not worry & remember that your life is in God’s hands. We’re praying that He hasn’t called you to heaven & that you’ll continue to be with us still here on earth. We love you sweetie. Love, Mom
November 14th:
Little angel, Dad & I were at the doctor’s office again today because I started having some bleeding this morning. Dr. Morell & the staff were great & sympathetic, and it’s too early to know what will happen. The good news is that you are still in me. I’ll go back tomorrow for more blood work. They’ve put me at bedrest for a couple of days. Dad dreamed last night that you were OK so we’re trying to stay positive with that & my dreams I’ve had before & after we found out that I was pregnant & you were fine. You’re in God’s hands now for the final outcome. We love you honey. Love always, Mom.
November 15th:
Hello sweetie! We found out that yesterday’s HCG level was good & high. Tomorrow we get the results of the Monday & today’s tests. We continue to hop & pray that the numbers are going up. I didn’t work today. The bleeding is less but still present. We’re still rooting for you honey. We love you very much! Love, Mom
November 16th:
Hi honey! We found out this morning that my lab work was inconclusive so they’re repeating the HCG tomorrow. We’ve got a lot of people praying for you, Dad & I that you’ll continue to grow & this scare will end soon. I did work today but was able to take breaks to rest & didn’t do much of anything else. Dad & I love you tons. Love, Mom
November 18th:
Hello little angel in heaven. Dad & I were devastated to find out that you will not be joining us here on earth but instead are already in heaven on yesterday. Please know that we both loved you while you were in my womb & look forward to the day in our future when we meet you in heaven. We love you, Mom
After suffering a miscarriage, I'm pregnant again!....sm
I had a miscarriage in November at 8 weeks after having abnormal test results and got pregnant after my first period in December. I'm now 7-1/2 weeks and the baby looks great on the ultrasound and blood work they drew. I'm due on September 14th and my husband & I are tickled pink (or is that blue?)
For those of you who responded to my post in November about having the miscarriage thanks for the support and encouraging us to try again. I've had a lot of women tell me that they had a successful pregnancy after a miscarriage and while the emotional pain of the miscarriage is still there, it was comforting to know I wasn't alone.
I suffered a miscarriage with my 1st pregancy
and got pregnant VERY easily immediately after they told me that we could start trying again and now have a beautiful, healthy 8 y/o that happens to share her b-day with your due date! Congratulations! :)
Anyone have genetics testing after a miscarriage? sm
If so, did the testing reveal any possible reasons for the miscarriage and prevention methods for future pregnancies? Did you get pregnant after that and did you successfully carry the pregnancy?
Miscarriage survivor question for others who have been through this...sm
How did you get through the time period when your baby was due? I lost my little angel at 11 weeks and the baby was due mid-June. Both my husband and myself have had good and bad days since the miscarriage but I'm fnding the closer to the due date I get the more sensitive I'm becoming. I just about burst into tears when walking into Target tonight I saw a lady that looked like she was around the stage of pregnancy I should have been at.
Any advice to keep the sanity?
The answer to your question if ever miscarriage
is yes.
Goofed up hormones after a miscarriage...sm
I have had 2 miscarriages over the past 1-1/2 years, the last being in January. Both times I had a D&C. The first time I got my period right back within a month and stayed on my normal track for periods, which I've been having for 25 years now and are calendar regular. Now since the 2nd miscarriage and D&C (at 11-1/2 weeks of pregnancy) my hormones have been crazy. I didn't get a period for 3-1/2 months and that was only after they gave me progesterone to induce it. Then I started the next month on time, followed by periods every 2 or 6 weeks, no regularity at all now.
Anyone else have a hard time with their hormones just bouncing all over the place and the body not understanding what to do with regularity anymore? My OB/GYN says this doesn't happen very often but isn't concerned yet and since I'm trying to get pregnant again I don't want to go on BCPs.
I would wait three - four months. I was going into my fourth month when I had my miscarriage.
x
It has only been two weeks, it will get better.
Maybe do more fun things with your kids, as they're probably upset right now too. You are lucky to have them and four is a blessing. And for yourself, how about joining a bowling league, a gym, or taking a craft or cooking class etc....just something to occupy your time and meet other adults and new friends. You may even meet others in the same situation and that always helps. And always remember how much better your kids lives will be in the long run being out of that kind of situation. That may help you to not be tempted to take your husband back because you are lonely, because that does happen and it's understandable. It's a long time to be with someone. Best of luck to you.
Yes, used now for over 3 weeks and
think it smells good, other than that I have not seen any change at all in the hair situation, still falling out.....
Only used them for about 1-2 weeks when they - sm
were newborns. Personally I don't think they should be used for long at all or they become dependent on them (tops 2-3 months when newborn). I know someone who has a 3-y/o who walks about with one in his mouth 24/7; can't understand him at all even when he does take it out of his mouth to talk, major speech issues I think because of it. I feel bad for him, angry with her for being lazy and not trying to get him to transfer his need for a security object to something less destructive. One of mines has a doll and blanket that are her security things, and the other and old teething toy that is a cat from Right Start with all the rubber "feet" cut off, still sleeps with it at 8, both are well-behaved and mentally developed kids with no issues of any sort.
I used to get one every 2 weeks...
I just called a local service and had 2 sisters come every other Friday. We paid them $75 plus $10 tip. We just now cancelled the service and decided to put that money in our savings account and do the cleaning ourselves:-) We had to get the house totally cleaned up anyway the night before, which was pretty stressful. It was good, though, for the year we did it. They brought their own equipment and dusted and cleaned the whole house except for the basement. We'll use them for parties like the one we're having this month, but that's it. Just check your local paper and call a few. Ask questions to see if they fit your needs. You can have them come every day if you want, once a week, every 2 weeks, or once a month, whatever you need. Good luck!
I have someone come every two weeks
She does basic cleaning - dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathrooms. I pay her $75 each time. She has basically a one-woman business that she is just getting started up. I found her listing in the local newspaper and lucked out, because she is a really super lady and I enjoy having her here to talk to, since my husband and I are "empty-nesters" and I am home alone working all day.
As far as what you should pay, I think the area where you live and the cost of living needs to be taken into consideration. I would expect to pay someone in New York City or Los Angeles more than I would pay someone in a small Midwest town, for example.
Just my two cents.
I go to one every 3-4 weeks - sm
and when I was looking for one I asked a friend who went to one on a regular basis. As stated below there are the rip-off ones who do all this fancy garbage that does absolutely nothing. My friend said to go to a "straight" chiropractor (no clue what that means, guess it is how they practice, and one that graduated from Palmer school of Chiropracty (Sp?), pretty sure it was Palmer, if I am wrong I will post a correction. Mine is very reasonable, $45 a visit (my insurance covers it 100%). I too started out 2-3 x a week, then tapered down to 1 a week, then every 2 weeks, and now do every 3-4 weeks. I have not been for about 8 weeks now because I hurt my shoulder but it is all better now so I will probably start going again. It feels great to get the back cracked, gets so tight from sitting here all the time.
I think just a few weeks at most ... sm
I don't intend to keep the car for long. Last night we had decided until the end of the semester. After talking with it I am waffling about taking it at all. I am sure he will have it back by Thanksgiving. Thank you.
I had a bag of those a few weeks ago (sm)
My dogs finished them. So far so good. So then I bought the name brand ones this weekend at Sam's. $12.00. Evidently they are not the ones recalled, but I went and looked at the bag, and it says, "Made in China", so out they go. I can't believe I forgot to look - lately I have been looking at everything. Even if it's made in US, I'm usually afraid because of the wheat gluten, etc, that is imported. Good luck with your dog. Hope he is okay.
Just ate there 2 weeks ago - sm
WONDERFUL!!!!! This is the third Emeril's we have eaten at. We ate at one in New Orleans and one in Atlanta and now the one in Gulfport (used to live in Biloxi, so we are trying to support their rebounding economy). We always eat 4 courses and are never disappointed. ENJOY! Worth every penny!
3-1/2 weeks!
That sounds like a wonderful vacation. . I'm taking off a few days too and I'm really looking forward to it.. Hope you have a great time!
2 weeks
as it sounds like routine blood work. If no call by the 23rd I would call the office and leave a message and then you will probably hear back on that Monday.
2 weeks?
I just had bloodwork last Thursday and I got the results on Monday. I guess it just depends on the physician/lab. They used Quest Diagnostics.
I am 43....just, B-day was about 3 weeks ago- sm
My DH is 6.5 years older than I am and dying to retire. He keeps telling me at 55 he is done. He will then go out and get a PT job somewhere, probably at $7.50 an hour, just to stay active and bring in some money. I want him to keep working until he is 62 at least then one kid is done college anyway, and we will be able to sock away quite a bit in the 7 years that we have no mortgage and have for mad money, home improvements, save for kid's weddings (they are going to get 10K each and that will be it--can do what they wish with it, but that is the gift--not going to be one of those nutty parents who blow $25K on their kid's wedding--I did it for 5K, everything including honeymoon in 1996, so can they). But in 5 years the house will be paid off (2013), as well as our loan to pay off his debt. I may or may not be done with mine at that time. So there is a goal and it will be nice to be out of debt then, though our monthly expenses now, mortgage, food, utilities, college funds, etc. come to $3400 a month---luckily combined bring in about $4300 a month currently. I go for testing on the 15th for an administrative asst. position for a neighboring county sheriff. Want the job but on the other hand don't want to change my current schedule, etc. But it would be nice to have a nice steady paycheck coming in.
I go about every 3 weeks when I can - sm
I did not go for like six months and just went about 3 weeks ago. I just go when I have a little spare time anymore which is not too often. I went initially because of a car accident, very stiff neck and shoulders, went once a week, then every two weeks, now when I feel like it. Since I had not gone for a while my spine was sore for a day or two, but it does make me feel better as I get so stiff sitting here working 6-10 hours a day. Need to start exercising too, I am sure that will help too. As for dissing chiropractors there are good and bad, there are the ones who rape you with all the different machines they put you on (been to one of them, racked up $800 in 3 days), or those (as a friend swears to) are called "straight" chiropractors who attended Palmer Chiropractic school, who don't stick it to you. My visit is $45, lasts 10-15 mins, and my insurance pays for the it, no co-pay for some reason. She ends up with $36 in the end and I do not have to pay the difference. But just tell him you will be starting to come in once a month or so from now on, what is he going to do, tell you to go somewhere else as the is unacceptable to him?
He will be in about two weeks (sm)
I am going through with the separation and in fact have signed a six month lease and paid a deposit and first month's rent, so no turning back now! Thank you for your encouragement the other day and everyone else too. I do know that what he did was wrong, I was just having some grief over the "dream" I had coming to an end. I went to a board on cafemom and talked to some others who have been in abusive relationships. Apparently it is very normal for anyone divorcing to feel grief and doubt, but from what I hear, I will be feeling much happier once I am out and away from the relationship. Thanks for checking on me :)
Usually I would think about 1-2 weeks,
especially if they sent them out. What did your doctor say about calling for the results?
I just had this 2 weeks ago... (sm)
It's called pyelonephritis, and yes, you need to go to the ER. If you can't take Levaquin, they might know of something else, but still.
I'm taking something that decreases my immunity (according to the ER doc - I had never known that about Plaquenil before), and I didn't go through the high fevers, but it seemed more like it was because my body couldn't fight back with a fever. It actually made sense when the ER doc explained it, which is totally weird because the ER doc was a jerk otherwise.
Anyway, I hope you feel better VERY soon!
I told everyone at 6 weeks...
then waited to tell son when we had first ultrasound...
Ultrasound at 7 weeks?
Ack - I didn't realize docs were doing these so soon. There are so many variables in pregancies (and children) that I wouldn't be too concerned. But, after all the ultrasound horror stories that I have heard over the years, we skipped ultrasounds with both of our children. I had normal pregnancies and there was no reason to have one.
I measured completely different with both of my children through my pregnancies and with good reason, the first was 10 pounds 4 ounces, the second was 7 pounds 14 ounces.
I hope everything is fine, please let us know.
It is probably that engineer from a few weeks ago
the one that wanted extra cash because she could "type good." LOL
I started WW 4 weeks ago...
I actually NEVER cook. My kids are picky eaters, and they both are picky about different things, so we eat mostly TV dinners.
With WW, you can eat anything. You calculate "points" based on calories, fiber, and fat grams. You get a certain amount of points each day based on your weight. You also get 35 cheat points per week. If you are still hungry, you can earn points by exercising.
In 4 weeks, I've lost 6.6 pounds and I haven't felt like I was dieting even once. I wish I would have done their program years ago.
If you do cook, you can go on their website and use E-Tools to calculate points. You can enter your own recipe into the online calculator, and it will tell you how many points it is.
Right now they have a special where you don't have to pay the initial start-up fee and you get free E-Tools for $40 a month. That's what I'm doing now, and I plan to stay at it until I lose all the weight.
Good luck with whichever program you decide.
I have a maid come in every two weeks sm
She has her own business. I just lucked out - she advertised in the paper, I talked to her on the phone and then she came over and gave me an estimate and she seemed like a very nice, responsible person. She has been cleaning for me for about three months now and she does a great job and is indeed a very nice person.
I have a two-bedroom, two-bath house that is about 1800 square feet and I pay her $75 each time she cleans.
How much exercise have you had in the last 3 weeks?
The kind of exercise where your rib cage actually has to expand as far as it can go?
That kind of exercise causes relaxation, and relaxation is an antidote for anxiety attacks.
I was also helped by learning relaxation with biofeedback and I also take Effexor. Not everybody can take that though.
It's only been on the market 2 weeks
nm
Or eat the 2 weeks and get professional from here.
x
I definitely needed him a few weeks ago.
Definitely HOT. What did you think of the season finale?
For the last two weeks I have been listening
to Christmas music in my car. Don't know why, but I was in the mood for some Manheim Steamroller, even if it is a little early in the year. I have to say that when I listen to the Hallelujah Chorus on this particular CD it makes everything that is wrong in my life seem so insignificant. I love this group's music. It just makes you happy.
Merry Christmas, a little early!
I think about 6 weeks is the norm sm
My first and last both wear able to newborn size about 6 weeks. I probably would have upped their size sooner had I not had so many newborn diapers. They were both about 7 pounds at birth. My second child was 8 pounds 6 ounces and didn't wear newborns for more than a week.
I would definitely get the size 1 instead of the newborn. Of course, you could always call the new mom or maybe the grandmom and ask. But I agree that it's better to go up a size and have to wait a week or 2 to wear them than to get the wrong size and not be able to use them.
