bluing
same area as detergent, it is a small dark blue bottle, liquid, although I remember someone had powered way back when, but they have gone out of business. Bluing is not at wal-mart, as far my local one goes. water in tub should be a light sky blue, it does not take much or it will turn your whites blue and it has to be evenly distributed or they will be blotchy blue. you also can put clothes already blue in this and help combat fading.
bluing and well water
I am on well water too. Have not used it most of my life but only the past 5 years so maybe that is part of my problem too! I don't know much about how it changes things. We do have a reverse osmosis system which is supposed to help remove rust and sulfur. Maybe I need the bluing too. More info on this would be appreciated! :) I also have allergies to most detergents so a brand name would be great!
I use Mrs. Stewart's bluing. . sm
It is the same stuff that some older women put on their gray hair and sometimes if they use too much, it comes out blue. I have a well also with a lot of sulfur and iron, so I use bleach. (I also use about a tablespoon of bleach with my towels because nothing else will get the odor out. I even tried vinegar.) I think when you use bleach on whites, it takes something out of the fabric and causes it to become gray or yellow. The bluing puts it back into the fabric. I buy it by the fabric softener at my grocery store. I think I paid $3 for it and it will last a long time. Hope that helps!
There is also a web site all about bluing .
for Mrs. Stewart's bluing. It is www.mrsstewart.com
There are also some other uses for it that are very intersting. I think my 7-year-old would love to make the salt crystal garden!
I use the bluing also. It makes the whites really bright. nm
