I'm just like that.

I know it annoys people. I'm the youngest child of 4 kids, and the older two are nothing like this. I have this brain fog thing I can't explain, and don't know how to just snap out of. I feel like people want to throw hundreds of details at me on the phone regarding future events, most of which have nothing to do with me, and I don't know which I will get quizzed on later. My family has learned to send e-mails about important stuff.
I honestly can't figure out why birthdays are an important event. I see birthdays as something important to kids in elementary school, not adults.
After that it just seems silly, pointless. Everybody was born one day or another; what's the big deal?
One of my siblings has such a complicated life that to hear his spouse fill me in makes me feel exhausted. I try to keep mine simple. I'm married, but didn't every try taking on the challenge of kids.
I actually avoid making frienda with women that I can tell are just the opposite of me, that is, organized and detail oriented and caring about the remembering of birthdays. Now I have one friend that is busy, but not at all needy, and a year can go by, and then one of us will call the other and we'll try to get together. We enjoy this guilt-free friendship.
I think you should try to make friends with people who are more like you instead of attempting to change somebody that doesn't have the personality you need in a friend.
You're right; you should stop calling this woman who annoys you. Stop inviting her to things. I doubt she'll even notice for quite a while, and that's no reflection on you.
