I'm glad you changed your mind, calling CPS

Not a first. Sorry, but spanking the kid with a stick is NOT abuse. It is the punishment the father has chosen, and if the child knows this is the consequence, then I suppose he should think about what he does.

The biggest problem with the CPS system is that people will call on suspicion, or just to cause trouble (husbands ex-wife uhmmmm)and the case-workers have to investigate these bogus claims and the ones who really do need help don't get it. My BILs kids lie about his girlfriend beating them and then the school calls CPS. Even though she has been cleared every time, even though there is not a mark on the kids. She is a wonderful person, but runs a tight ship and they don't like it, so they lie.

No one should ever call CPS because they disagree with someone else's parenting style. If you see a child actually physically abused (punched, kicked etc) then call them.

We have lost all control with our children because of do-gooders, for lack of a better word, who decided that any consequence at all was damaging to the poor childs selfesteem. Our children are out of control and we shouldn't discipline them, we just have to love them so they consider us friends.......How's that working for us?

Well apparently daddy changed his mind and said
yes, yes, yes!!!! She couldn't attend the awards due to being in rehab. At least what Brad is singing about is legal!
Hayseed, it hasn't changed my mind about little dogs

At the moment I am considering a one-year-old Papillon/Pomeranian mix that someone is giving away because she has a toddler and two dogs and lives in an apartment. It will be about a month or so before I will even begin the process, because we have to get my son settled at his new college first.

What Fox's health problems have done is made me aware of what to look for in a small dog, and what to have a veterinarian check for before I choose another dog. Fox was so stoic - he almost never complained, despite all the surgeries and pain he went through. I don't want to see another dog go through that kind of pain. It just breaks your heart.

Keep in mind before you start calling people names...
that you are only getting one side of a three-sided story. There is a reason that the son sided with the girlfriend, I imagine.
Even if you have not changed anything - sm
you can still develop an allergy. I was told years ago that your body chemistry changes every 7 years or so; don't know if it is true, but it seems that way in my experience. I have developed shampoo allergies in the past totally out of the blue, as well as skin sensitivity. Do patch testing on her arm, place a dab of everything she uses on her inner arm, leave on for 24-48 hours (no showers) covering with a band-aid and then check to see if there is a reaction. That is how I found out it was the shampoo I had been using for years; stopped using the shampoo and my rash went away instantly. But regardless call the dermatologist, make an appointment, I cannot believe you have not called them because you think it will take too long to explain to them the problem; tell them skin rash, period. It may just be a reaction to the drug she is on as well, so once she is off it still may take weeks to clear up and she may need somethings to counteract the reaction. My daughter a few years ago had a reaction to Omnicef, they had to put her on 2 other drugs to get the rash to go away, then taper her off them once the rash disappearred, took about 2-3 weeks for the whole process. Call doctor today, get her in ASAP!
5.4, I think. But might have changed since this was

I can't get into it anymore...has it changed?..
I just get "picture of the day" and not the live cam I used to see.  ???
This was some years ago and probably has changed
but I was the custodial parent. My ex-husband stayed behind in child support, never caught up and owed me over 3 thousand when my child reached 18. He wanted me to "drop" off my child at another place, did not want to perhaps run into a new guy at my home and the judge said my child not a puppy dog, if he wanted to see he would have to pick her up there. Whatever the courts say, not what you or the next one says, is what goes. Getting the police involved is fruitless- they will tell you need an attorney, go thru the courts, etc. Calling them is taking up their valuable time and they are not at liberty to state who a child should go with. What kind of court order is there and if not, there certainly should be something before you start playing these games. I do not think nonpayment of child support now days plays any part in whether a child is allowed to visit with noncustodial parent. Basically when a court says so, you have to abide by their orders.
Things may have changed
when he was like 2.  I will never do that again.  They put a bunch of needles filled with different types of serum up both of his arms and all over his back.  Then they had to be watched to see which one he reacted to the most.  The allergist claimed he was allergic to every food out there and every tree and mold.  So, I just laid off the milk and kept him inside on high pollen days.  He would have been bubble boy.  Thankfully, he's fine now other than an occasional sinus drainage problem, which I think the pollen or something or other must be high right now.
Yes, a friend of my DIL had this and changed
for the worst. She lost weight in her body but her extremities did not and she did not look that good. She changed completely in personality, went from mother and part-time teacher to thinking sex goddess, running around with lots of guys, stealing- things she never did before the bypass. I also saw a television show on bypass surgeries and the stories were similar to this, lots have experienced complete character changes.
In many ways she has changed
Far from perfect but definitely better and being with Nick has definitely helped. Of course, she was just recently holding over Sharon and Brad's head their affair and could go to jail for it, so I guess that is the Phyllis you remember. I have only been watching the show for about 3 years.
times have changed
dont make a big deal about it or it will become a big deal.  so buy her the little sports bras that look like half T shirts.  this is also good in the winter as it helps keep them warmer.  no big deal.
The age for some retirement has changed
I am almost 65 (next March) and my retirement age is 67. It has gone up with people living longer and people born around my year and later will find their social security starts later than 65. I am still working and hope to continue- I have retirement money starting next April from place outsourced from (being independent contractor, that will probably pay part of my taxes for the month, ha!) I guess I should go ahead and contact SS so I can find out if and when I should sign up.
I have a friend who changed her name.
She now wants to be called Sunshine. It would be one thing if the name fit her, but she's the most negative, complaining person I've ever met. I refuse to call her Sunshine. She corrects me whenever I call her by her given birth name, so I just roll my eyes and call her, "Hey!" I think it dishonors your parents to change your name. I've known her by her given name for over 20 years. I'm not changing just because she decided she doesn't like it any more.
A lot has changed in 5 years --

I don't have any personal experience with bankruptcy, but I have a few friends who do.  One of them filed several years ago and I think a lot has changed since then.  I don't think it's as easy to do anymore and I think you still have to pay some of it back.  It's also harder if you have assets to file bankruptcy, so you might want to look into it a little better.

On an another note, it's rather upsetting that so many people think (and not just you) that it's okay to just throw your debt over your shoulder and walk away.  I'm sure everyone has their reasons for racking up the debt, but in the end, it's a decision you made.  I think people should be more responsible for their actions.  Too many people live for the moment and let the rest of us pay for it.

I would have changed seats anyway sm
Less inconvenient than being sick! If I see someone coughing or otherwise obviously sick, I hold my breath as I walk past them if I cannot go way out of my way to walk around them...lol. I used to be a classroom reader with the first graders at my son's school...I built up quite the immune system that year ;) Didn't volunteer this year for my daughter's third grade class...lol
remember they changed it?
It always happens before Halloween however someone in the government changed the daylight savings time weeks... my calendar on sunday says "daylight savings time ends". does that mean saturday night, i guess someone said below!
Unless things have changed
As far as I know, you have to have a converter box, if you don't have a HDTV TV. You can't use a DVD or VCR player for a converter. Maybe what they meant, is if you need a converter box, and don't have one, the only way you can watch your TV, is using a DVD or VCR player, playing the DVD discs, or VCR tapes.

I have bought 5 converter boxes, ending up taking two back. First one I got was a Magnovox, and I didnt' like it. My antennas wouldn't fit it.

I took it back and exchanged it for a RCA one. I couldn't get my money back, with the coupon, so, had to exchange it, and am stuck with the RCA one. It works OK. Not great.

Then I reviewed and found the TiVax was recommended. I got it. I liked it, till I got a DVT Pal today. It is better than any of them i have tried. I traded a Zenith for it, didnt' like the Zenith. My antennas wouldn't fit it, either. So I took the Zenith back, got the DVT Pal.

The Pal is the only one , so far, that I have gotten 4 stations. The others I have only gotten 2. With the ZEnith, I got none. I think I'll stay with the DVT Pal. I have one more coupon left.
No slump here so nothing has changed. NM

Wow, the place sure has changed!
My hubby and I went there on our honeymoon in 1985. It was very quiet, and we went all over the place on scooters, taxis, and even rented a jeep and drove up the peninsula some 100 miles or so to see the ruins at Chichen Itza. At that time, the airport looked more like a bus station!

I would have had a great time, but it was January, and I had the flu... REAL influenza; the sort of illness where you feel like you're going to die and you just don't care. I started feeling a little ill even before we left home. By our first night there, I felt horrible and was sick for the entire week. All these years later we laugh about our honeymoon and how I walked around Cancun like a zombie.
Wills cannot be CHANGED. They can be
be contested, but the involved heirs have to agree and consent to the change in distribution.
Without their agreement nothing can be changed.
Have you changed anything in your diet?

My sister had horrible migraines about 20 years ago to the point where she thought she had a brain tumor.  She found out that she has a  lot of allergies to food, MSG being the worst one.  She has to read labels very carefully and the big thing to stay away from is turkey.  Turkey has it's own natural MSG that would put her in bed for a day with a headache if she ate it.

I hope you find a remedy that works.

Maybe the office has changed their
policy and will not just renew RXs without an exam.
Even if he truly changed, I'm just not sure if I could love him again.

I just don't know if I can ever completely trust him again and there is a panic that rises in my gut when I think about him coming back home and things going back to the way they were.

He used to steal money from me in order to buy booze because at one point I just decided I could not trust him with money, even if he had a dollar he would buy a cheap can of beer at the gas station.  He had booze hidden all over the house.  He would look me in the eye, drunk as a skunk, and say he hadn't been drinking.  When I asked if he had booze in the house, he said "no" without batting eye.

I just don't want to walk around feeling tense all of the time and worrying if he's telling me the truth or not.  Even if he does truly change, how do I get rid of my doubts?  I don't know if I can ever completely trust him again and I don't want to live like that.

perhaps I may have a new calling...sm

old timey comfort food....Been doin' southern style soul food for hubby, but chitterlins I just cannot deal with.  He's cooked them over the years in the house and I just absented myself until the smell had dissipated.  (Before you ask, that would be Ellie's intestines).

How about lamb shanks and barley with carrots and onions, a little salt and pepper cooked on the back burner on low for hours?  You can't find lamb ankles anywhere these days.

Is there a chance that you can just make the liver or stuffed peppers for yourself and air out the house so hubby doesn't freak?  He doesn't have to eat it....just throw him a hot dog.    Cat

I think i will. I'm going to keep calling the

have you tried calling 211?

Most communities have a 211 system set up for all sorts of assistance.  I called when I broke my tooth and they set me up with an income-based fee clinic here in town.  It is amazing how a toothache can become all-consuming.

211 helps people refinance their mortgages, elderly needing a ride, mental health, physical/laboratory screenings, food banks, almost anything you could need from your community.... give it a try -- hope it helps.

Hang on, though. The rate could have changed...sm

If any payments were late (or missed), the rate could have gone up astronomically for the OP.  They may well have gone up and up.  It's probably in the fine print of the card agreement that that will happen automatically with late payments.

And I have heard financial experts say that it's not a good idea to call and cancel a card if you still have a balance on the card, because then you have no way to negotiate with them.  Though it doesn't sound like any negotiating was able to happen in this case, you're supposed to keep asking for the person's supervisor (and their supervisor, if necessay), and be persistent, until you get to talk to someone who can help you with lowering the rate and maybe waiving some of the fees.

Then I would apply for another card with a lower rate (and make darn sure you don't make any payments late or miss any payments!) and transfer that WA MU balance over (and ask if they can wave the transfer fee when you apply for the new card).

BTW, I recently applied for a credit card with WA MU because the offer was for 0% interest for 15 months on balance transfers, and the person was definitely in India.  Every time I interruped him to ask him a question, it was like he then had to start over reading his "script" but I could understand him.

I asked if he could wave the balance transfer fee, and he said he was unable to do that.  I didn't persist or ask to speak to his supervisor, but I should have.  According to the experts, the time to negotiate is before they have your business.  After they  have you as a customer, they aren't so interested!

Mine is changed every 12,000 miles but
i do not use the regular oil that other cars use
I read this was changed 10 years ago what with

20-40 young adult

40-60 adult

60-80 middle-age

80-100 old age

seems a better fit in today's world of people living significantly longer than our ancestors.........

I got a couple of years until I hit middle age according to what I read 10 years ago or longer..........

Hubby changed dermatologists after...

arriving for what he had been told was the first appointment of the day, only to learn from eight other patients that they had been told the same thing.

would not want scoring method changed
because if the judges had too much weight on their scores, there is never a question of who wins -- this way, a person can impress the audience with their overcoming obstacles or rate of improvement, etc, and may get to rank up there with someone who has more natural talent. This makes it more fun!
Name changed legally in the courts and
the reason for the change, he tells me, is he always since a child did not like his given name and as adult, when he could afford, changed it in the courts. He thinks the only reason they are not calling the new (like I said, old name like Lewis and new name like Lou so it is just a shortened version) is just not respecting his wishes. He has told them before, not just this time. The entire name was changed but this is the catch, when he got the thank you note for the flowers sent for the funeral, they came in his newer name!! The person who died, his aunt, always sent him notes, cards, etc. in his new name so not everyone in his family not acknowledging, only the younger siblings actually (those being in the 40s,50s group). So your answer, not just at this funeral time and did because simply hated his name for years. In talking about your friend's name change, I see you emphazied if it MEANT that much to her, pray tell, why do you think someone might do otherwise (other than being in witness protection??) Another thing, just to let you know, his mother prior to her death knew, respected and called him his newer name.
MiraLax changed my life. LOL
Seriously, though, eating a high-fiber diet did not change my issues until I met MiraLax.

I am also having some success with probiotics.
Mine's almost 47, hasn't changed. nm

actually changed to satelite and don't get FX anymore
so i will have to wait until it comes out on DVT. I'm going to start a new thread about N/T...you inspired me!
How your likes changed much over the years?
It depends on what age range, 15-20, 21-25, 26-30 etc... like every five years, in regards to anything.

I'm not saying things haven't changed...
But I am saying that the people I know do NOT curse like stevedores. Which is why it baffles me when I watch a movie and everyone, men and women alike, are throwing around the F word.

My work schedule, so I changed it sm
I went to something odd at work and I think it will serve us both. As the new schedule starts on Monday, I will have from Saturday at 2 p.m. until Wednesday at 2 p.m. off this weekend and I NEED IT. Then I work 2 evenings, two 10-hour days, an 8-hour day and I am off from 2 p.m. Sunday to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Now to fit the PT job in and around that and still have more time off.
Well, I have not changed my spending habits.
I changed my spending habits based on my own personal situation, not the fact that my neighbor has lost his job and now can't spend like that anymore.

One of our problems is that the people with all the money do not spend in proportion to their income as us poorer folks do. They save it and save it and grow more money from it and their money is not being put back into the economy.

I for one have no problem with a millionaire spending $500 for a pair of shoes or whatever else they want to spend their money on.
Calling when going somewhere and letting you know
she arrived safely is one thing. Teaching a child that forgetting something once in a while is some horrible thing is another story all together. We ALL, and I do mean ALL, forget things from time to time. I don't care how many lists you make, how organized you are or anything else, we all forget things. It may be a coat, something on our list that we made or somebody's birthday, but we ALL forget things. My children did learn from their mistakes but, once again, not from cruelty, but simply because it was a life lesson. They are both wonderful you adults who work full time jobs and are responsible people. While they had guidelines and rules to follow and knew and reaped the consequences of not following the rules set before them, we did not rule with an iron thumb. We knew they were human and would make mistakes along the way and learn from them. Sorry this was so long, but this type of treatment of children really makes me sad. I wanted my children to know that I loved them more than I wanted to rule them. They still respect me and I talk to both of them several times a week and have a wonderful relationship.
Anyone Want a Calling Card?
I just bought a calling card for work and it screws up the dictation too bad.  Would anyone like it for personal use?  I can e-mail the number and PIN to you.  No charge, just don't want it to go to waste, and we have a cell phone for LD.
CALLING ALL MTS WITH FIBRO!!!
Hi. I am looking for some helpful hints as to working with fibro and how others of you deal with the pain and fatige, etc. Thanks in advance.
Oh my gosh--calling you Ma! (sm)

Wow does that bring back memories!  My mother, now deceased, HATED and I mean HATED being called "ma."  She used to nearly backhand us if we said it...she said we sounded like bleating sheep!

That is too funny that it grates you the same way!

Keep calling them, they are supposed to pay - sm
for the vet bills, granted that is of little solace but you should not have to pay for their negligence.
Have you tried calling the police?
I live in a quiet suburb of a larger city and the police are very strict about keeping the peace and keeping out the riff-raff. I've been here about 16 months and I've called the police about 8 times. Other neighbors also call. Nothing much gets done because the hoodlumbs are too smart to be caught red-handed. But there's a long list at the police station of how many times the cops have been called to that address.
I think you missed your calling, Cat . . SM
should have been a CHEF!
Did you try calling around locally?

Calling all cat lovers - I'm at my wit's end

To make a long story short I need some expertise.  My male cat was a sprayer before we got him fixed way back when.  Then he decided to pee in our dining room and we took up the rug and put in a wood floor (this was quite a few years ago - cat is 11).  Then he proceeded to pee in all the corners of the family room.  We just had wood floor put on there and all has been well.  Until about a week ago, he decided to pee again on the dining room wood floor, no where else, but he still uses his litter box.  I had cleaned it with vinegar and it seemed like the smell went away and I thought all was well until I again caught him peeing on the wood floor in the same area more than once.  My husband has had it (he destroyed a lot of things already from when we first got him).  He is ready to take him away somewhere.  I don't know what to do next.  My husband doused the area with vinegar again.  Anyone have any ideas?  Anything that will keep him away, or any other tricks to get he smell out.  Any help would be appreciated.  Tonight will not be a very happy night.

One more thing - about calling (sm)
Their leader will not allow them to use the phone to call - period. they are not allowed to call their parents, even though there are payphones right there at the trading post.
Name calling is never, ever acceptable
especially to a child. That is the kind of thing that will stay with him forever unless his father apologizes and has a little talk with him about how daddy was wrong.
