I'd still hire a local general contractor.

Whether modular or traditional stick-built, there are a million details, legalities and regulations involved - and you'll likely still need some local subcontractors. A good general contractor can save you a ton of grief and bad experiences.

This just in from my future contractor
"You friend is correct, but may be jumping the gun a little bit.
As I said before, I would avoid purchasing a NEW PC with XP. This does not make sense, especially if your current PC is working for you. Extended support for Windows XP systems will continue through 2014 at least and probably longer. So the timeframe for upgrading is quite long…
I would not upgrade a current PC (more than 2 years old) to Vista under any circumstances. With anything less than 2 Gig of RAM, the Vista OS slows to a crawl and many hardware vendors have not upgraded their drivers.
As far as a new machine goes, I would wait until the Vista SP1 (Service Pack 1) has had time to “soak” for a while before making any decision. It’s also MUCH better to change machines than trying to attempt an upgrade later (to Vista SPn for example).
Again, the other thing to consider is that not all vendors are currently ready to support Vista and the “compatibility mode” of Vista has been shown to be problematic.
So to summarize, here’s what I am suggesting to my clients and friends …
1. Let 2008 pass without upgrading.
2. Revisit the stability of Vista and the depth of vendor support in late 2008 to be ready for a planned migration from XP to Vista in 1Q 2009 at the earliest (and possibly later).
3. When considering the upgrade to Vista, plan a complete hardware upgrade as well.
If you would like to talk about this on the phone, feel free to contact me anytime. See this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/sp1.mspx for more information about Vista SP1.
The contractor saga continues..
Okay, so basically I came on here to vent again! LOL So, after the contractors were basically bathing in our pool and sitting on our vehicles and leaving about 20 nails and lunch trash and vinyl siding on our front doorstep....
Today, they were to send out another crew of 2 guys, instead of the original 5. The owners wife was to come to supervise all day. So, they show up about 11:30 with their kids and the wife and her two friends all hanging out in my yard...okay fine at least shes supervising....She then proceeded to sunbath in the backyard while smoking about 3 packs of ciggerettes...um, okay..then, you guessed it, left all those butts all over our yard!! She also never apologized to me personally. Later in the day, my window is cracked and I can hear her over my typing, so I stop to listen. LOL She is complaining loudly on her cell phone how she has to babysit all day because the renters b*tched about the pool. She was also saying it was only a 1000 galloon pool, so who gives a crap, whats the problem!?! The pool is actually a 16' pool. My feelings are that it does not matter if it is a baby pool or an inground pool you do not go to someones house and wash the sweat and dirt off at the end of the day in their pool!
Let me know what you all think! Do you think I was being too hard on them having a problem with this? Ugh one more day of work left for them to finish I think. I'll have to see what happens tomorrow.
My husband was a contractor over there for a year - his suggestions -
He told me people went nuts over homemade goodies of any kind (cookies travel very well in those tubular oatmeal containers from Quaker Oats). Also, you can send chocolate things this time of here because the temps are much lower. He also said people adored magazines and books, things to do to help pass the time during slow periods. My husband liked when I sent those Crystal Light singles drink mixes. He would add one packet per bottle of water for a nice change from plain old water. Itemize your list as you pack each box because the post office wants to know what you are sending. He also said people really enjoyed receiving cards and notes. Lots of them feel forgotten in this war many people do not support, and depression really sets in this time of year. He said anything you send will be very, very much appreciated.!
Why don't you hire someone there to cut it - sm
maybe every other time or once a month to give you a break. My DH bought a $2500 tractor to cut our 5 acres(4 to cut) in the next county and has not done it once as yet, though he just had to have that tractor so he could cut the property He always has some excuse not to cut it. The tractor does get used on our 1 acre here at the house, but that is about it now (he used to cut the grass at a local church but no more). We have a local guy cut it maybe 2 x a year for $120 a pop. Obviously we are not maintaining it to look pretty. We have it cut it when it gets 2-3 feet tall basically. Last year we got away with only 1 time, not quite sure how we did that though.
Do It Yourself? or Hire Out?
Just curious--how much do you do yourself around the house? When do you pay others to do the work?
When we bought the house in the country, the previous owner was telling me about: the guys who plow her driveway, her cleaning lady, and she offered to give me the name of her window cleaner.
We don't pay others to do what we can do ourselves. I do the: cleaning, gardening, window-washing, painting. DH does the lawn, small repairs, clears the driveway, etc.
Only time we pay someone else is when the job requires more expertise than we have--for instance having the heater repaired, or major electrical work (DH can do the small stuff).
I even ripped down the 4 foot stockade fence in the back yard, tilled my vegetable patch, dug up some medium-sized bushes, etc. myself.
So, how much are you willing to do? where do you draw the line? Why?
First thing I'd do would be to hire
an honest, trustworthy Financial Advisor, who happens to be my brother's best friend of 25 years.
Yep, then they can hire the cast of ER.
x
That is true but the owners who hire them
should be held accountable. The American roofing/contruction co owners that do not want to pay their share of tax or pay a descent wage to a legal worker should be held accountable. The immigrants working illegal are just trying to make a living. (Yes it's stealing and wrong and I do not approve. Especially when they bring their whole families here.) The owners of these company are the real cheats though. They buy big vans and pick them up and drop them off. It's horrible wages are so low for hourly workers now. :(
Every now and then I hire my neighbor's daughter - sm
who is now 15 to babysit my 2 (7 and 8). She has 2 younger brothers (6&7) so plenty of experience being around younger kids (plus her mom is right up the road if there is a problem). I pay her $5/hour and usually a $5 tip to boot. Kids have a blast with her too, so it all works out.
Seems to me, agency so glad to hire out MT, just

airlines hire seniors
If you live near airport, airlines hire seniors for customer care type activities which vary and you get flight benefits.
All the kids should pitch in to hire help. Shouldn't all be on
:P
Then you're lucky!! Yes! I would hire her to do it and I think $15 is great! (nm)
x
It is o.k. to hire firends to do the work cheaper,
but this lady is crazy! Do not give her any money, a deal is a deal and the husband is happy. If she needs some money, she should ask her husband for it.
Because meds and utilities are going sky high and no one will hire them nm
....
WalMart also contracts out companies they know hire illegals. There was
not too long ago.
Maybe next time hire a company that employs US citizens ; )
x
You just nailed it. Companies hire illegal immigrants.

Honestly, if I were you, I would hire a real estate agent to help
xx
Well, in a bank he would be handling money, so I think it's a legit reason to not hire. sm
To me, it makes perfect sense to not hire someone based on poor credit when that person would be working in an environment such as a bank, handling funds, etc. I see less reason to do so in other jobs, but in a bank, sure, it seems only logical to me. Sorry.
tribute in general
I saw it as a tribute to a soldier in general.
I can't stand TV in general.
I watch MAYBE 1 hour a week of regular ol' TV and that is just local news blurbs. I am a big movie fanatic though.
What I really can't stand about the crap coming over the airways is the constant barrage of DRUG ADS--whether they are for prescription drugs or OTC stuff. It's just too much.
I saw a spot on the news about how stores are contemplating putting in little LCD screens into those "kiddie carts" that the adult can plug $1 into, put the kid in the plastic car/cart thing, so the kid basically can stay numbly tuned into some show while the parents shops in quiet comfort.
Heaven forbid kids are made to behave while out in public. Oh don't even get me going on the sheer retardedness of it all...
not personal, just in general...
So many nasty comments...the point of my post was (and this is the last post I'll make on the subject)a teacher won 10grand...woohoo!!! GREAT for him, a hardworking professional (and yes, underpaid) catches a break! I'm happy for him...end of story! Have a lovely day...
General Hospital
I've been watching GH for years. What do you think about Elizabeth/Lucky/Jason? I'd like to slam Elizabeth. I feel sorry for Jason.
In general, you're definitely right (sm)
I am not necessarily saying my mom is wrong - but it's not how I am choosing to raise my kids. I don't want them to be scared. I only spank them as a last resort (for defiance after warnings) and they know what lines not to cross. I rarely have to spank them and they are far better behaved than a lot of my friends' children.
Is it because of the neighbors in general
or just that you don't want to impose on anyone? I have 3 that I can borrow from and have. My very best friend who lived across the street up until last year was someone I always went to and vice versa. We could borrow anything from each other and I mean anything. We joke with each other all the time now when I need to borrow something really crazy that I wish she was still here because if I asked the others, they'd think I was nuts.
Unfortunately, he probably won't be in the general population sm
because of his celebrity status. He'll probably only see the guards and his cell.
Maybe he could be sort of a general fix-it guy
Someone in my area actually has an ad in the paper that says 'Rent-a-Husband'. For household things like building shelves or cabinets, lighting a pilot light, trapping and removing a mouse in the bathroom, or a bat in the garage, things like that. Petsitting and dog-walking are good options for a rent-a-husband, too! Or for busy people, someone to take their car to the shop for a tuneup and oil change, so they don't have to. Back in the 1970's, during the gas 'shortage', when lines for gas were hours long, people made money by taking people's cars to the gas station and filling up for them.
Maybe he could build those cute wooden children's toys you see at the fancier toy stores. And either sell them or give them to organizations that give toys to needy children. If he's 'artsy-craftsy', maybe he can come up with really cute dog-collars & matching leashes, or cute wooden pet-beds that look like miniatures of the real thing. If he likes to write, and is smart, maybe he could start an advice column for soon-to-be-seniors. (Nowadays 61 isn't really a 'senior' - I think it's closer to 75-80!) Or, if he likes kids, maybe a 'rent-a-grandpa'! Or else maybe a small mail-order business, like on eBay.
Well, that's all for my ideas, I need to get to work, myself!
Hope he finds the PERFECT idea!
I do have a son, and who is villifying men in general? sm
The one we are talking about right now is a pedophile, as was my granfather. The one I am married to is abusive.
However, I know many men who I love and respect, my stepfather who only lived with my mother for 5 years but has kept in contact with me and my sister all of our lives who I now help take care of. Many other male friends and relatives. My son who I love dearly. I have seen many women post on here and say how fortunate they are to have such a great husband. I can't defend someone who molests children though, sorry.
Make your own income, hire a plumber. Total unnecessary. Men are useless in the family plan.

Waking up can happen even with general
anesthesia, happened to me in the middle of a face lift as I was having my neck liposuctioned!! So having general (which I think is more than the conscious) does not mean you stay fully asleep. There are others waking with general, have seen stories on it before on 20/20 I think. I had other surgeries after that time but this was the only time I woke during surgery. I joked with the physician later about my awakening that the anesthesiologist must have gone out for lunch at that particular time!!
Finally, it seems to go as "we" the general
I think Lakesha or Jordin, in any order will be next 2, and Blake and Melinda final 2. I like them all, so I dont care who wins.
General legal matter
Definitely take pictures to use in your defense and when you remove those vines from your house, take pictures of the removal of paint too. Most state laws allow you to control whatever is growing over your house, fence and/or yard that results from a neighbor but if you trim their plants that are on your property and happen to kill the entire tree, plant or vine, your neighbor can make you replace them. It's a matter that has no winning situation because you have to live by these people. I say get a free estimate from a landscaper and get an estimate from a painter also, talk to someone in the legal system and see exactly what your options are, and move forward to bring this problem to an end. Once you find out what action you can take, if any, tell your neighbor what you are planning to do and if they do not take care of the problem, you will move forward as planned. No way would I let this go on without doing something about it. Good luck.
Nope, general surgeon.
Gross, isn't it?! Can't WAIT 'til cold season!
I went into the Dollar General looking for school
decorations. I walked out without buying anything.I refuse to patronize a store that does such a dispicable thing. I'm a big halloween fan and was miffed they hadn't even put out the halloween stuff yet!
You must pick gross men in general...
Let's just call you stinky girl
I'm just always suspicious of "statistics," in general, but particularly so -- sm
when given without the backup data which supposedly generated them. :-) Beyond that, I probably bristled more at the descriptor "filth" as a blanket term covering the categories. I suspect that most of what are considered the greatest movies ever made would not pass that "filth" test.
General legal matter... maybe somenoe knows
I was wondering if anybody has had this happen to them or someone they know. I have a problem with neighbors to one side of me who have trumpet vines. These are very invasive and they grow very fast. When I first moved into my house 10 years ago, they were confined to a very small area along our shared fence. Now, 10 years later, they are all along the length of the fence, are not being kept trimmed or confined, are reaching the roof of my house, growing inside my garage, behind the washer/dryer, etc. When I pull them off the side of my house (the side out front where I never go except to wash the windows in the garage once a year) the paint comes off with the leaves, leaving bare spots on the wood. This is a spot the neighbors can clearly see when they are doing their lawn work. They sit there and watch the vines grow up the side of my house without even pulling them out, knowing what it does to my paint.
The roots from the vines are now invading most of my back yard, and they grow about a foot (no joke) a week, so by the time I mow the lawn again, they are way above the height of the grass, sticking out all over. Now my lawn is ruined, and every year it is just getting worse. In order to get rid of the vines completely from my yard and property, it will have to be dug up and replaced, and even then it won't do any good because the neighbors have them all over their property and don't care if they have them growing on their roof.
I have contacted the city, and there is no law on this sort of thing, they told me it would be a civil matter, i.e., small claims court. I have asked the neighbors countless numbers of times to at least make an effort to keep them contained, and they may cut a little here and there, but a week later, there they are again. I'm done asking.
My question is this, has anybody actually gone through with a small claims suit against somebody for this or similar reasons, and what was the outcome? I have been checking around and it falls under destruction of property and lowering the value of my home. Thanks for all comments.
reads like he's disrespectful to women in general
If he is a passive-aggressive type, there is ABSOLUTELY NO HOPE for the relationship....get out while the gettin' is good....
I agree, let the general public take care of them; I will.

I bought mine at Dollar General but sm
you have to ask for it. They keep it in the office. I use it for walking my dogs. I think Wal-Mart probably has it, too, maybe in the auto department.
Check with your state attorney general's

An OB doctor yes, I am talking about general practitioners or even.....sm
pricey specialists, most do not even cover emergency rooms or in-hospital patients anymore, many hospitals in my area have gone over to a large percentage of "hospitalists", a new specialist who works only in hospital, and when you go into that hospital, the hospitalist stays in close touch with your PCP and records, but is in charge of your care, freeing up the time of the PCP. So much for progressive medicine, what good are all the advances in technology/testing/meds, when the doctors do not take the time or care enough to spend the time with you, without overloading their schedules every day to bring in more $$$, to truly DIAGNOSE THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM CORRECTLY so the proper care is gotten right away. And I am not talking as an MT here, I am speaking as a former LPN, CMA, and office manager, who used to be "ordered" by her physicians to fit in a few more, many times QUADRUPLE booking.....many doctors have just lost compassion, it does not come with the degree!
Actually is a Dollar General brand Brat cause more light

Ancestry.Com Needs a Surgeon General's Addiction Warning Box
Is to get one of those Ancestry charts online where you put in each person in a family tree. You can then click on 2 people's names and see exactly how they're related to each other.
I think the OP's disgust was aimed mostly at "the system" in general. Picture this...
you awaken at 5:00 a.m. after only having slept 4 hours, get the children off to school, work a grueling 8 hours transcribing for incomprehenisble dictators, while in between getting the house work done and prepping dinner until you remember you have to pick up the kids and take to practice, and you need to make one last stop out of your grueling day to stop at the market and boom. You encounter what she did. Sometimes it makes you wonder why you bust your hump day in and day out, year after year, for the mere pennies this so-called profession provides while others are getting handouts. So she had a 'moment.' That's all. No more, no less. Give her a break.
Yeah I remember Prell!! I think I saw some at Dollar General not too long ago (nm)

Yeah, Tried to... even called the state attorney general's office
to see if a medical facility could get away with charging that kind of interest and they said as long as they notified you prior to the bill, it's okay because you basically agree to the terms when you accept that form of payment option, which I didn't but... They advised me that I would have to hire a personal lawyer to fight it and I figured it wasn't worth it for a balance of 200.00.
Pretty bad because that is the closest hospital. The next closest is almost 200 miles from here so they really stick it to the people who live in this community when health care is already sky high and the care is not entirely satisfactory either.
General Electric Cooper - our orange cat with stripes that looked like (sm)
electricity. I think? What were we thinking of? I always had a vivid imagination and parents were on drugs in the 70s so they probably thought that was hilarious.
