no matter what, try hard to never bad-mouth their dad. Answer their questions directly and honestly, but minimally when possible, especially when they are young. If older, you may be able to find ways to tell the story in ways that will be more detailed, but it's best to try to help preserve the respect they hold for their dad. The one exception would be in the case of severe verbal or physical abuse.

As difficult as it may be for you, keep in mind that you are the adult, work out fair visitations and do not turn them into a football between 2 households, especially around holiday and special occasions.
