Hysterectomy. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and opinions. I have decided to go ahead with t

After obtaining the opinions of different physicians, the concensus is that my safest bet to avoid developing cancer given my borderline ovarian tumor is to proceed with a total hysterectomy. After pondering and fretting, although I am not thrilled with having a hysterectomy at age 42, I also don't want to be faced with developing cancer in the future, as they tell me I have a 20% probability of developing problems in the other ovary with my history. So full speed ahead....hysterectomy it is. If anyone of you has had a complete hysterectomy, I would love to hear from you regarding how you fared after the whole thing, if you required hormones, felt good, felt bad, etc. Thanks in advance.

need opinions and/or thoughts please.....sm

i have been having some major pains lately to the point some days i have been able to work and am having major difficulty sleeping because of pain.  it is in my very low back, all left-sided.  i have also had pain in my left-sided ovary and now it has spread to feeling in the center of my abdomen like it is in my uterus.  i went to doc about 2 weeks ago, told i had a severe kidney infection.  got a shot of rocephin and cipro 500 mg x10 days.  didn't clear up so i went to ER.  UA was now negative.  they did pelvic and said it all looked fine.  then did an abdl/pelvis CT scan.  doc says it shows a few small kidney stones, but they were not big enough to be causing my pain.  i have lost 15 pounds in a month, but i was also very sick with the pains, nauseated constantly and even vomited a few times.  for two weeks now, i have been able to eat but the pain is still a dull constant and mostly bothers me when i lie down to go to sleep.  i have iced/heated, flushed every water/drink, cranberry you name it to no avail.  i don't feel i have kidney stones now.  i think i flushed them or they are not bothersome as doc says.  well today in the mail i get a certified, yes certified letter from my ER i went to.  the letter says to make sure i follow up with my PCP for repeat abdl/pelvis CT scan.  anyone ever received a certified letter from the ER before?  of course, this is saturday and i can talk to noone, can't request records or anything so i am kinda edgy with all the horrible outcomes i know as possibilities going through my mind and knowing this isn't standard procedure for the hospital to send me a certified letter.  any ideas/thoughts/prayers???

Need thoughts and opinions
Try not to worry, and if your pain worsens, go back to the er and they could pull your records and films and be able to further determine what is going on, or order more tests. I will add you to my prayers.
hysterectomy
Can't speak for everyone, but my hysterectomy was the BEST thing I ever did!  I had it almost 4 years ago due to severe abdominal pain after spending a few years in and out of surgery for D&C's, uterine ablation, etc.  I had a vaginal hysterectomy and was home within 36 hours -- no pain!  I don't regret it for a moment.  I still have my ovaries (my choice and doc's recommendation), so I still go every year for my annual physical.  I had some adhesions from my appendectomy, but it didn't seem to be a problem.  My advice - git 'er done!
hysterectomy
I just had a hysterectomy done a couple months ago - and for me personally it was one of the best decisions I have made. I have tons more energy now, no pain, and even have more of a sex drive (which of course my husband loves!). In saying that, every individual is different. There is a website called HysterSisters dot com - check it out - very helpful with information and answers to questions you may have. Good luck to you whatever you decide.
Hysterectomy, my story sm
I had to have a TAH-BSO. My fibroid was the size of a soccer ball, so that was the only way it could come out. My doctor recommended, since I was over the age of 45, to remove the tubes and ovaries to prevent future possibility of ovarian cancer. I was on estrogen for a little while (first estradiol patch - didn't like it, then Cenestin), but I didn't notice any hot flashes or anything really different, so I stopped taking the estrogen. It was so nice not bleeding so much any more. I was out of work for 6 weeks, though. Also, if you have stress incontinence or any other problems in the area, they can fix that all at the same time, so it really was worth it. I had umbilical hernia surgery in the past so don't know about the adhesions, but I was fine. Also, won't need yearly Pap smears any more, just once every 5 years or so (according to my doctor). Good Luck
Your upcoming hysterectomy
I agree with the other posters. Best thing I ever did and I, too, was 42. Actually had gallbladder out in April 1998 and hysterectomy in July 1998:( I had everything removed so did not have to worry. I had the vaginal surgery, almost had to have abdominal because of size of uterus. Thank God it went well vaginally. I agree with Janet, I could have gone to work the next day. Felt absolutely GREAT!! What is more, I was working in-house for a clinic and had sick time built up and my doctor was gracious enough to give me 8 weeks off, during the summer have you and.........I was paid for doing it. Good luck!
Please help. Had a hysterectomy last year
and ever since I am drying up like a prune. My sinuses are always clogged and the top of my eyelids are so dry I can hardly put eyeshadow on because it just flakes off. Has anyone else had this problem after a hysterectomy or while going through menopause? Is there a miracle cream out there for my dry skin? I've tried a few but so far nothing works.
Had my hysterectomy 13 years ago, and
although they are not as bad as they used to be. And no, I am not ERT.
Hysterectomy question
Hope you do not have to. You are way too young. I had one 10 years ago, had cervical cancer, so abdominal with bikini cut. I had a long recovery, 5 days in hospital, 8 weeks out of work. I was very sore and tired for about the first 2 weeks. It was very tiring just to blow dry my hair. Then 3 years ago had to have ovaries out through a vertical midline incision. That recovery was much better. My sister-in-law also just had a hysterectomy, vertical midline and she recovered very quickly. Was out of the hospital in 2 days and really felt great a few weeks later but had to be out of work for 4-6. I all depends on your tolerance and I think the incision if abdominal.

Good luck and take care of yourself. Definitely get a second or even third opinon since you are so young.
MT with the hysterectomy - are you back among us yet?

If you are referring to me, I had the hysterectomy. sm
I posted here and got a lot of great advice from everyone. I am the one who had the left ovary removed first and then found out I was borderline cancer and the doctors recommended a complete hysterectomy. Well, I did have the hysterectomy and thankfully, all went well. Nothing had spread anywhere and all turned out fine. I am doing very well. Had my procedure laparoscopically and robotix assisted so less invasive. I spent one night in the hospital and actually was back at my computer the next day....on a limited basis of course...but I must say I have been lucky so far. Only hot flashes here and there, but other than that I have felt pretty good. Thanks for asking, if you were referring to me.
Had a hysterectomy 20 years ago
Still have my ovaries, though, and am going through menopause. That sure doesn't help matters!
The 50 pounds after the hysterectomy? (sm)
I have gained a lot in the last 6 months and wonder if it is related to my hormonal issues. Did you lose weight after your hysterectomy?
I just had a supracervical hysterectomy last
However, I felt pretty good after a week.  I was back typing right away, pretty much, but not an 8-hour shift.  I'm an IC, so I can kind of type when I want.  Hubby had to do deliveries, but he worked it into his lunchtime.  I am just glad I did it because I was tired of suffering.  D&C didn't work either.  Birth control didn't work.  I had adenomyosis though confirmed after surgery, so I guess that was my biggest problem.  There was something wrong and it was causing problems for me.  So, I'm glad to have it done with.
Go ahead but you are so wrong.....
So the more "so-called" religious people are, the more judgemental, self-rightous, opinionated, and unforgiving???? Nothing in the bible has been proven. There are endless contradictions. Heck, some people believe it was fiction. It is only the way you lived and the way you treated others that will matter in the end, and hon, pssssst......you're failing! lol
You are so good to think ahead!
We bought a PS2 last year...what were we thinking...now of course our son wants a PS3 for xmas this year. Go figure.

I hope to start a xmas fund for next year but I always say that and never get my rear in gear to do it. Xmas just gets more expensive as they get older.

I have only bought a few small things so far but trying to look at catalogs and get some ideas and things done now. It is right around the corner!

Good for you to be able to get a big gift out of the way so early. I bet that feels great! Who knows, maybe this will be a great xmas memory for you and your son. :)
The reason it is called a hysterectomy is sm
in Victorian days, doctors, of course were male.  They thought women were hysterical, in the psycho sense.  They freely did "hysterectomies", removing reproductive organs, and even a woman's clitoris, hoping it would calm them down.  (probably make them more like men).
Had a hysterectomy 6-1/2 years ago, not for cancer, but
by far, one of the best decisions I ever made. I did get to keep my ovaries, but knowing what I know now I still would have it done even if it meant both ovaries being taken out, too. I know it's a tough decision and my prayers are with you. I'm  glad the cancer was contained to the one ovary.
Still trying to decide whether to have a hysterectomy. See message
I posted last week about my dilema about whether to have a hysterectomy or not after my left ovarian cyst (which was removed along with ovary) came back with a pathology report stating papillary serous tumor, borderline. Doctor says I should have hysterectomy for "insurance" and preventative measures. However, according to their group discussion, my tumor was borderline, but "more on the benign side". I am so confused. I'm 42 and I don't want to have a hysterectomy, but yet, I don't want to have a problem with cancer either. I have the option to follow every six months. Is this safe? Am I better off getting a hysterectomy? I just don't know what to do!!!!
Had hysterectomy years ago and not dried up per se but
my face was doing exactly as yours, the flaking of the eyelids. My surgery was in 1984 so it was not that. My dermatologist told me to never ever again put regular soap or those good smelling products on my face and told me to use Cetaphil soap (get at your drug store, Wal-Mart, etc) and I was not believing her but it works. The dry flaky eyelids went away as well as the other dry parts on my face. I tried a lot of the other things the people mentioned on MTs to me but finally found the answer. Try it, I do not think you will be sorry. Hey, by the way, my eyebrows even had dandruff (none on head) in them and that was terrible. Good luck!
Update on hysterectomy for anyone who is interested. sm
Hi everyone. Well I had the hysterectomy this Tuesday done laparoscopically assisted and robotix assisted, so less trauma to the surrounding tissue. Have 5 very small cuts on my abdomen and uterus, tubes and right ovary (the only one remaining) were removed. It all went well. Stayed overnight at the hospital and came home Wednesday morning. Feeling really well. Was sore for the first couple of days and only had to take Motrin. Feeling really good today with hardly any soreness. I have to take it easy for a few weeks without any exertion, but otherwise feeling well and am so relieved it is over. So far no symptoms of hot flashes or anything, but I'm still waiting for that to happen, so we will see. I am happy to say I am please with the outcome so far and now I feel I can move on without worrying about that issue any more. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and words of wisdom.
Had ablation 3 years ago, having hysterectomy
I first asked my GYN about a hysty when I was 38. I was very irregular and never knew when I would start, except that I figured out that the days I stood in the shower and cried my heart out was always the day prior to starting. He said I was too young.

Fast forward to age 43. GYN recommended lap supracervical hysty but agreed to trying Novasure ablation to buy some time. For the past 3 years, I had only light spotting for half a day and my emotions were better, but still I felt I was overly emotional than what I expected from the surgery.

In January I had to take a Medrol Dosepak for something. On the same day as my last dose, I had a full-blown period. I have now had 3 in 40 days. They are worse than ever. I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy on Monday.

If you do consider an ablation, my advice is to stay away from steroids! It did buy some time for me, but combined with another health problem I have had (IBS/celiac sprue), I have been miserable for a year and I'm eager for this surgery!
Don't forget to ahead of time...sm
Figure out what you want to sell things for, and check ebay to see what items you have are currently selling there, and don't sell for less than that at a yard sale.

For example, recently I sold a used PDA for $20 + $10 shipping on eBay that my attempts to sell at a yardsale only had offers of $5. It had all of the original packaging, books, cables, etc and retails currently for $100.

I also sold a sump pump on eBay for $25 + $15 shipping that originally cost $80. At our yardsale I had guys bickering at wanting to pay even $15 for it.

Bottom line: Know the market and have fun, but don't be a sucker! :o)
I would go ahead and make an appointment
with an ENT stressing the problem you are having. If you end up getting better or going to an urgent care first you can always cancel the appointment. It you know of an urgent care that you trust you could give that a try. Good Luck

Go ahead, have a laugh at my expense.

A lovely young lady came up to me while my mother and I were inspecting my perennial garden in my front yard.  She introduced herself as a missionary from Nepal from a nondenominational Christian organization.  She was just adorable.  She was selling jewelry as a fundraiser for her group.  It was some really unique, eye-catching stuff.  I spent $35 on a bracelet and necklace for my daughter, my daughter kicked in $20 for the matching earrings and my mom spent $40 on a bracelet and necklace for my niece for her birthday.  This was such an unusual thing for me to do, but I have been working so many hours and really not enjoying life and I had  fun looking at all her stuff.  I gave myself permission to splurge because it was for such a good cause.

After the purchase, my husband looked up the name of the group on the internet.  My mom, daughter and I just contributed $95 to the Moonies.

They jumped ahead 5 years! Not sure why!
The only thing I can think of is that they wanted to find a way to keep Orson on there without him somehow getting out of doing the jail time for running over Mike. Also could have been a way for Nicolette Sheridan (can't seem to think of her show name right now) to come back so quickly with a brand new husband.

In those 5 years, Mike and Susan got into a car wreck in which a mother and child were killed. Susan (or both of them) had a really hard time dealing with the fact that the mother and child were killed, and it ended up causing too much of a rift between them so they divorced. We just found out that that Nicolette Sheridan's (is her character's name Phoebe?) husband was the husband/father of the mother and child killed in that car wreck, and he blames Mike for it and is seeking revenge. He's trying to become good friends with him, and we don't really know what he has planned for him.

While Orson was away in prison, Danielle came back and took the baby away from Bree because she had married and now wanted to raise him. Bree had such a hard time dealing with losing the baby and Orson being in prison that she started drinking again. During that time, Kathryn was a big support to Bree, and they became very close friends and business partners in a catering business.

Kathryn and Mike have just started dating, which isn't settling too well with Susan because deep down she still loves him very much even though she has a new boyfriend.

Carlos lost his sight from his injuries in the hurricane that killed the Mayor, Gabby's husband. Gabby and Carlos got remarried and had 2 children. Carlos just got his site back.

Tom and Lanette have been running their pizza business and raising their children. Their oldest son, one of the twins, was having an affair with his friend's mother, who was married to an abusive man. Lanette and Tom found out, and Lanette tried to force them to stop the affair. Well, the married woman told the boy that she was pregnant. Lanette was confronting the woman, and the woman's husband overheard them talking about her being pregnant. The husband beat the woman, and Lanette went back in to help her. Then the boy confronted the husband at the husband's bar and threatened to kill him in front of everyone.

In the meanwhile, Dave, Phoebe's husband, set the club on fire to cover up that he murdered his psychiatrist because he was going to tell Mike who Dave really was. Dave has framed it on Tom and Lanette's son, so they are dealing with trying to prove that he didn't do it.

Lanette paid the woman off and made her leave town. Turned out that she wasn't even pregnant after all and was scamming the boy to try and get out of her marriage (I guess).

That's the basics. Not sure if you even wanted all that information. I sound pathetic knowing all these details I'm sure, but what can I say - I'm hooked and don't miss a week.
Not boasting, but I'm actually ahead of the game sm

We changed our lifestyle quite a bit over the last year.  We just built a new house out in the country, so we are not ordering in as much.  I actually make a menu for the week and buy groceries for that menu.  I plan my meals ahead of time, but we still allow ourselves the luxury of eating out, usually once on the weekends.  We were very fortunate to be able to budget for a geothermal heat pump, so heat bills!  YEAH!!!!  Because we went with the full geothermal (not just a regular heat pump), our light bill didn't go up that much either.

I have 3 kids and they are all elementary age and play lots of sports.  They're all playing baseball, and the parents were given the option to either work the concession stand 1 game per child per season or pay $20.  Needless to say, I'm working the concession stand for 3 games and saving that $60.

I also took on a part-time job in direct sales.  It has been a Godsend.  Not only do I get out a couple of nights a week with other ladies to have a good time, but I also get paid to do it.  I make about $200 a night for about 4 hours of work, although it doesn't feel like work.  I'm also on my way to earning a free vacation for next year through this company.  This year, we're headed to Disney with the money I've made so far from direct sales.

I knew I needed to make a little extra income.  I work part-time for an MTSO now about 6 hours a day, and the money is good, but I wanted a little for the extras.  This direct sales thing was right up my alley.  I don't know how long it will last in this economy, but I intend to "ride the wave" as long as I can.

My physician never brought up about hysterectomy, I told him
I wanted to see about this but this situation different. I had ongoing bleding that could not be controlled and then another person in medical field told me how their friend almost hemorrhaged and not being able to stop the bleeding in the nighttime. I immediately called my physician and asked for a hysterectomy. So glad I did. This was in 1986 and loads of typing then on AIDS patients and how blood could be responsible. I did not want a transfusion at that particular time. My view only. No problem with the surgery at all. Now there are other means of controlling but past childbearing, saw no reason to just have the periods.
Okay, here's my posting! Go ahead and post your LAST WORD!
I know you're just ITCHING to!

and thank you for the entertainment! :)

Can you go ahead and print the alignment page?
The print heads on HP printers are in the ink cartridges, so when you change the ink you've got new print heads to align.

I think they require this alignment before they will work properly, so if you can print the alignment page successfully, the message should then disappear. If not, then check your printer properties in Control Panel for other diagnostics.

I call ahead and ask if he's running late.
They'll usually tell you. Then I get some other errands done. They have said that if he gets caught up in the meantime you will have to wait.

Funny, but I find the earlier I arrive for my appointment, the earlier I get in. They must take arrived patients in if the scheduled appointment is late.
Go ahead and flame me now....There is not one woman I would nominate...
let alone vote for. And I certainly would not vote for one running simply because she is a woman. Women, in general, tend to be catty, jealous, use their gender to get ahead, and hold grudges much longer! No way do I want some hormonal woman making decisions that affect millions! And yes, I am a woman, and I don't feel bad about my opinion.
...Look for sales if at all possible if purchasing ahead of time. nm

Ribs would be great cos you can do them ahead of time

The Phantom (have front row seats), Blue Man, and Etta James is going to be there on Friday and my friend HAS to see her.  We're only there 4 nights and the first one we get there at 9:30, so we just didn't have enough time.  Next time!
not every child in the 3rd grade is going to have the mentality of a 3rd grader. some or ahead
and some arent.  some still believe. there isnt that much difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders...i am talking about an entire classroom of thirty children.  she didnt use the word " exist"...she had children raise their hands as to what parts of the story is false and fiction...i just think she could have found a diff story, didnt have to talk about santa ya know?

This man gives me chills!!!

Having known the risks up front, I decided
myself never to have a child after 30 even. I had my first at 21 and then my daughter was born when I was 29. I just had always heard the risks and did not want to take them myself. Everyone can do what they want but the older here is not always the better.
I am so glad you decided not to go with Biospot
Funny I did not realize I had emailed you, but couldn't figure out where my post went, thanks for letting me know you got the information. This was several years ago with my cat and she is fine now. Thanks for asking. All for the animals.
guess they decided to leave it up to everyone's

It stopped when parents decided to....

be friends with Susie and Tommy rather than parents. They want their kids to like them, don't want to hurt the poor little ones feelings or harm their self-esteem. Instead of rules they compromise, instead of depriving them of certain things these parents lavish them with every material thing they can for fear of being called a bad mom or dad. It's easier to buy the kid stuff and let them do what they want rather than buck up and be a parent. You all know who you are out there. I have to laugh when I see the 12-year-old who is dressed like a 22-year-old who is at the mall with her 35-year-old mother who is dressed like a 12-year-old. I also think the role models in the home have a lot to do with it too. Mom and dad probably don't respect each other, argue, use foul language, what is a kid to do but think that's the way relationships work. Many parents today are raising the furture  princess whiny-give me-buy me and prince disrepectful-treat women like crap-selfish adults of tomorrow. We are doomed!

Thanks for all the good information, this is what I have decided
Next year I start drawing over $500.00 per month on a retirement fund (from the hospital that outsourced us). I still wanted to keep working. My thing was I knew before full retirement that SS took away part of the money you make and after full retirement age you can make any and all without them taking away. I want to work after full, draw the retirement starting in 04/2008 and then wait until the full retirement (03/2009) and then I will have the full money. I do not want to quit working, just wanted to see what everyone thought about taking a % off if you took SS before your regular retirement age.he Thanks everyone for all the info.
Decided the same thing at age 40 - good for you!
Of course, people did not like the abrupt change I made and it made many angry, but you know what? I do not care. I am a good wife, daughter, sister, and friend, but I refuse to be a doormat to anyone. Life is too short!
I am the same age and decided the same thing last year.
Though, I fall back into old doormat habits, but I try to keep myself in check on a daily basis. You know people pleasing is a habit difficult to get out of. And by people pleasing, I seem to attract the wrong kind of people... I think the users of the world can smell a person who is willing to overlook users so they can help to feel useful.
I am trying to boost self-esteem and as I do little things for myself, I find I can use my judgement of character better. Instead of helping everyone, I help myself and still feeling guilty. This is something to get over. Once we do for ourselves we have enough inside to do for others in a healthy way.. and it will be reciprocal. How is it that so many MTs are such givers? The old saying "if I would have known then what I know now..." etc.
That was for Bush's plan, which they decided against
The Tax Stimulus plan that has tentatively been decided on is 600 per person that earned at least 3000 in 2007 and then an additional 600 per child in the family. Married couples couldn't have made more than 150,000 either.
We have decided to seek professional help.
My husband and I talked and decided that for all our sakes and to try and do things right, we are seeking professional help to guide us through this.

I feel somewhat more relieved with that in mind.

I hope all this works out for the best.

Thanks everyone
We've decided to use these approaches

first.  H is going to call around to see who has stove insulation.  I will scrub it down with baking soda like someone else suggested.  I have also read on the internet to sprinkle the new insulation Cayenne peper.   They said the house had a fragrance for a while, but they never had to deal iwth rat pee anymore.  If anything, I don't see why we cannot at least use the top part.  I may just get rid of my cake mixes and cookie mixes.  I guess I can either give them to my mom or give them to the food bank.  We do have a George Foreman MIL gave us for Christmas.  I have hardly used it because it was hard to clean.  I considered selling it.

Right now, I just don't think we can afford it without using credit.  We owe too much already.  It is so bad that I have been looking around to see what I can sell.  Not to buy a new stove but to pay some of this stuff down.  We have Christmas to do and next month we have property taxes, car tags.

I am so glad my younger man decided
to hook up with this lady. It has been more than what I could have ever expected. He was the first guy I ever dated younger, married and never realized such a man existed. Totally in love with him 10 years later.
