My copy is STILL in the bag sitting next to me on my desk here. I just can't bring myself to take it out of the bag much less open it up. I almost want to re-read the series all over again before reading this one. I honestly have forgotten a lot, because I always gobble them up the same day they come out.
I think what I'll miss most is the excitement that came with each book's release--even out here in northeast bumfu@$.. the fans lined up hours in advance, some even wearing black robes and striped ties and what not. Very fun! The energy was just phenomenal for a BOOK release! That woman is my hero for being the one responsible for creating all that. Just wow.

Doubt I'd have the guts to buy most of them, even if I could afford it. They are fun and certainly a conversation piece - if I had a business with a lobby, I'd go for at least one just to be memorable.

Of course, things were pretty primitive back then: No cell phones.
No digital cameras... you hd to use FILM.
No CD or MP3 players.
Tapes were 8-tracks, before cassettes came along.
No sunscreen - just suntan lotion. (We used baby oil or cocoa butter. And now we've got the wrinkles and precancerous skin-blotches to prove it!)
No personal computers.
No email or text messaging.
No YouTube or Craigslist! (How did we ever survive?)
No ATM machines at the bank.
No anti-lock brakes in cars.
Not one, but TWO 'gas-shortages', where you had to wait hours in line for gasoline, and they'd ration it to 20 gal. You bought gas on even or odd-numbered days, whichever matched your license-plate number.
However, I used the gas-lines to good advantage. They gave me the time to read a book, write long letters, pay my bills, do crosswords, or balance my checkbook.
I remember the first video-game, "Pong". I LOVED Pong. I was addicted, and could play it for hours. It was slow. Just my speed.
When you went to the airport to see off or meet people, you could go all the way to the ramp of the plane. Now, it's a wonder they let any of us in the airport at all. You could just wander around in the airport, visit gift shops, eat in the restaurants, watch planes take off and land. I've actually even been on dates to the airport.
Parking spaces back then actually accommodated full-sized cars.
Loved John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, and the whole folk music and 'back-to-the-earth' thing that was going on in the early 70s. Thought it would last forever. Was kind of sad when disco took over, but I loved the Village People, and of course now I still LOVE disco, and wish that had lasted, too. Not sure yet if I'll be saying that about Rap, 3 decades from now, but who knows, maybe I will.
JAWS was the big movie in 1975. Saw it with my sister, who had already seen it once and screamed and grabbed my arm every time the scary music started. After the guy's head bobbed down in to the opening of that bitten-up rowboat, I think we both had to be scraped off the ceiling. I haven't been back to swimming or body-surfing in the ocean since.
The Renaissance Faire was a really big deal in my area. We used to look forward to it all year long. My sister's friend had her face all painted like a mime (mimes were big in the 70s), and then came to our house for dinner after we all got home from the Faire. Totally freaked out my dad.
You could still go to Disneyland without having to take out a loan at the bank.
My friends were taking 'Hustle' dancing lessons.
People got 'Pet Rocks' as gifts.
In the 60's, for some reason it was suddenly very un-cool to ride a bike, especially for girls. Wouldn't be caught dead riding one to school, no matter how many books we had to carry. No one had backpacks then, either. So girls always piled up their textbooks on top of their loose-leaf binders, and carried them in their arms cross their chests. (Maybe that's why my elbows are now arthritic?) Suddenly, in the 70's, the sport of bike-riding exploded. Bike paths started being built everywhere. I had a beat-up old 10-speed my sister gave me, and I rode that thing all over creation. Back then we didn't need any of the fancy bike-gear. Few, if any, people wore helmets. I never owned a pair of bike-shorts until at least 2 decades later! Instead, since we all rode our bikes with our bell-bottom/flared pants, we had to fold the bottoms of the pants over and tie it with piece of string to keep the pants from getting caught in the bicycle chain.
Every summer my best friend and I would put on our bikinis and take our horses for a ride on the beach in Santa Barbara.
When I finally got ride of my old monaural, AM-only radio in my car, and got a stereo FM radio, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I SO appreciated DJ's who just talked in soft voice, instead of screaming all the time like the AM DJ's did.
I liked the bell-bottom or flared jeans. Also when everyone sewed patches to them. I had one pair with 92 patches and lots of hand-embroidery on the pockets. The popular color combinations were rust and forest green, also turqouise and lime green.
Everybody had long hair, including the guys.
AIDS didn't exist yet.
Saturday Night Live was in its early years, and had what is still considered to be the best cast. Loved Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase, etc. My dad thought SNL was a degenerate show, and forbid my youngest sister and me to watch it. We'd yawn and say good night and pretend to go to bed at 9:30 or 10:00 PM, then set our alarms and get up at 11:30, and sneak out into the living room to watch it after our parents had gone to bed.
Everyone wore 'Wallabys' shoes. They were tan suede with thick crepe soles. They were REALLY comfortable, but had one fatal flaw: They were slippery as heck on wet floors. I was running to class at school on a rainy day, slipped, and actually did a COMPLETE BACK-FLIP, landing on my stomach right in front of a teacher, who at first looked horrified, then seemed rather amused.
I had a mood ring. I was extremely saddened to lose it some years later, when it slipped off my finger in the shower at a motel, and went down the drain. :(
Everybody wore hand-made jewelry. Lots of turquoise. One popular ring was a silver spoon handle curved to form a silver ring. (I still have mine.)
In around 1974 or 75, I had my first 'computer' job doing data entry for a pencil factory. It was on-the-job training. The computer room had to be kept freezing-cold. You had to wear Arctic expedition gear to go in there to work. The hard drives were the size of refrigerators, and there were 6 or 7 of them. Each one held several disks that were about an inch or two thick, and about a foot and a half in diameter. That computer was NOT user-friendly! If you typed the wrong keys in the wrong sequence, it blew the lights out in the entire complex, not just our office.
In about 1976, I started doing MT. My first job was on an IBM Mag-Card typewriter, but most of my jobs were on a regular Correcting Selectric. I worked a regular 8-hour day, had paid vacations and sick days (which were SEPARATE), and was appreciated and paid well. Now THOSE were the good old days! ;)

I think it's because they wouldn't pay much attention to the teacher:-) I sat right outside the door with the other moms and talked, and we could pretty much hear everything. I know there are pricier places that allow you watch on a TV screen, which would be neat. That's not a bad price for the costume if that's what it'll be! Thanks for responding!

what to think. I never did follow the story very closely. I don't believe she is much of a speaker, but after the life she says she led, that is not surprising. What mainly caught my attention and really annoyed the bejeebers out of me is Oprah's attitude. To me it seemed so obvious that she wasn't "buying" any of it, and I'm glad the lawyers called her on her remark at the end of the show. I don't care much for his parents, not sure why, but I don't, just a feeling. I hope she gets her kids back.

I watched it periodically last night. We were at my father-in-law's for his 80th birthday. Maybe it was because I didn't see everyone, but I didn't like this group at all. There was no one I was interested in watching. I did like I think three out of the ones that I saw, but like I said I don't think it helped that I really get a chance to sit down and really watch it. I'm just waiting for the competition to really start. It seems like it's dragging this year with the way they're doing things.

really living, is it?!?! I agree with your post to a point, I think most people try to eat healthy these days, but personally I enjoy a Big Mac supersize meal with a Coke, an entire bag of chips or a HUGE slab of cheesecake once in a while. Gotta live a little ;)

DH and I were watching a Cricket
commercial together. Apparently Cricket is a phone, but I am bored by phones and other electronics, so I was just watching the actress in the ad. She can't be 20 years old and has beautiful hair, face and figure. She wears low-cut jeans with the phone product tucked in the hip-level waistband. They show her strolling along in slow-mo, swinging her hips. I look over and DH is mesmerized. When the ad is over I asked DH if he thought she was pretty, and he said, "Who?" I said "The girl in the ad." He said, "The phone ad?"
He honestly seemed confused and didn't remember the girl, but wanted to tell me all about the boring phone! Ha!
What's really hilarious is that if his dad had been watching, now HE would have said the typical, "What phone? - that girl was beautiful!"

who was supposed to be bellydancing. He/she was terrible and they put him through and got rid of some really good people. My daughters have taken dance over the last 10 years and I can honestly say that many 8-9 year olds can bellydance way better than that. They sent home tons of talent and put through some really untalented people. Also, why is it called America Has Talent and two of the judges are not American??
I will definitely be watching this show!
Plus, I loooooove Lisa Ling. She is such a great reporter and so brave. She's not afraid to go anywhere to cover a story. I have so much respect for her and am interested in what she will find out when calling the insurance companies.
Bird watching
I like to watch the birds out my kitchen window, but they spook easily, like every time we walk into the kitchen. I'd like to put a film on the window that would allow me to see out, but not be the mirror reflective type that would cause the birds to attack the window or try to fly through.
The only one I've found like that had a military camouflage pattern (not too lovely, LOL). I'm sick of searching, and was hoping somebody else had already found something. Oh, and the easier to apply, the better! Temporary/cling is fine, but I do have to be able to see out.

that mother daughter, uh, pageant, and I left out beauty for a very good reason, which leads me to my question. Is it a joke? Like a mock on pageants or something? It sure is entertaining.
Watching birds
That is so cool. I know there are lots of beautiful birds around here (N FL), including woodpeckers (have pecked trees to prove it lol), but I never thought to actually watch and document them.
The other night around 1 a.m. I was walking my dogs and there were probably 4 or 5 owls (I counted 4 for sure) situated within may a 100-yard radius. They kept 'talking' to each other. Each would repeat the previous 'chant.' It was really interesting to listen to them. They really had a rhythm goin'!
My son's GF said she saw a hawk on the fence a couple days ago. Wish I could have seen that!
But... shameless confession... my favorite bird is the vulture. They are magnificent... I know many people don't like them because of what they do for a livelihood, but I love them.

Anyone watching the new season of Hel*'s kitchen with Chef Gordon Ramsey. I missed last week but caught it last night. DH and I love that show. Ramsey tells em like it is. I hope some of them get better because I would not ever eat anything any one of those contestants ever made. They are supposed to have some experience but they waste so much food. Just wondered if I'm the only sicko out here who laughs when those people get yelled at.

Been watching reports on TV all day on this.
Sounds really scary. The worst and most alarming report as the worry about spread through the folks traveling to work on the subway systems and public transportation. The last report by Dr. OZ was that they would know more by Friday and be updating things then. Have a local hospital here in town reporting one case and waiting for test results.
One report said if things get really severe, they will close businesses and doggone it all - we work from home, will still be working, and bet the ERs and hospitals will have more reports than ever.
Yeah, I'm done watching. Last night did it for me.

Really disappointed this year but still watching
I have chosen Melinda since the beginning but Jordan was also good last night. I like your choices but after that it is all downhill for me. This is the weakest crowd of singers yet. Saw them in concert about 3 years when they made their rounds afterward, not wasting my time anymore. I hope the worst goes, otherwise I fear for the show's staying power.

Try watching Fox, continuous coverage
as I type. I think there was such an outcry from loads of folks and she was supposed to appear before a judge this morning, tried to telecommunicate and the judge ordered her picked up and is now waiting on her to appear and apparently she is headed back. They could have ordered her to the nut ward of the slammer if she had a nervous breakdown. Give me a break.

waiting for the end and than the fade to black. I am like others who thought their TV went off or Direct TV had a glitch. I mean what the heck? Such a let down. I hate it when movies or TV shows leave you hanging like that as I am one of those who then spends days thinking out other ends, etc. and then just drive myself crazy, lol. I guess they have left themselves wide open for options of a full length movie or such. Geez.

Normally I avoid those types of shows like the plague but I like seeing all these people who are amateurs show what they can do and you can see them improving and polishing their act and their look and gaining stage presence...it's really kind of nice to see such a variety of people striving to make their dreams come true.

Fun, huh? I love watching the birds
and I have my desk set up by the picture window so I can watch them and the squirrels, too. I have a pair of red-breasted nuthatches that are regular visitors to my back yard. They are new here this year and they are just adorable. We also have a few Cooper hawks that cause trouble from time to time. My favorite bird is a Carolina wren. The bird I would like to see most is a pileated woodpecker. Do you have a back yard list or just a life list? I only have the back yard list.
