my cousins who live in Scottsdale AZ used to own Theater in the Round in Phoenix for decades......used to be Broadway shows, then rock concerts, and today I don't know what they show there....

also, 4 sets of mountains surround Phoenix (and Tucson for that matter) - GREAT hiking and lots of things to check out in that regard!!!

HAVE LOTS OF FUN......don't forget!!!

Where to stay in Vegas and what to do in Phoenix...sm

DH will be on a business trip to Phoenix from Nov 1-16 and I am going too. Have a laptop so will work from the hotel, but need some suggestions as to places to visit while we are there. We have already been to the Grand Canyon. We are going to the NASCAR races the middle weekend. Also, need some suggestions for places to stay in Vegas, haven't been there in years. We will be there 2 nights. Thanks!

Flamingo just updated

I think you have the wrong hotel -- the Flamingo is just updated, we are staying there and they have a 52" plasma TV in the room.  Right next to Harrah's.  But completely updated, visit on the web.

regarding the Flamingo, I stayed there last year and it was sm
very nice. Not sure when you were there but I was told that the rooms were remodeled. Also as soon as you get off the elevators there are a few "cafe" places to catch a good quick breakfast. Oh but I agree on Stratosphere, yuck. I got a great deal but the view out of my hotel room was of a brick wall. Stardust and Frontier were demolished and it was a shame as they were part of old Vegas.

Location of where you are staying is key if you plan to walk. Luxor and Monte Carlo are on the south end of the strip, Ceasars, Flamingo, Ballys, MGM center of strip and Stratosphere and IP at north end.
I don't know about Phoenix University,
but I took mine from Ashworth online which was PCDI when I took my course. My daughter took hers through the same PCDI, but after we were done, I think 2 or 3 merged to one & we had no problem with it..
I am on my way to Phoenix AZ for the weekend, cant wait for sun and heat

in the last few years, I've stayed at Flamingo, great location, in the heart sm
of the strip, right across from Ceasars Palace. Rooms are very, very nice and reasonably priced. Also stayed at Stratosphere but it's located on the north end of strip, I compared it to a Motel 6 and didn't have any hot water for the 5 days I was there BUT there is a great IHOP next door. Stayed at Ceasar's but IMO not worth the $$. A long walk thru casino just to get to the elevators. I stayed for a week at a "condo/extended stay" hotel which had a kitchen, etc. was a block off the strip - unfortunately have to stay at least 6 days but it was nice because there were no slot machines, very family oriented, could walk to Aladdin. Anyway I book all my travel thru Expedia and the package deals are the best. I went for 3 full days, air fare from Fla, hotel (Flamingo) and rental car for $250 so I really suggest looking online. The hotels give out coupons to half price magic shows etc. They are ok but what's great w/Vegas is that there are a lot of freebie shows and inexpensive places:
1. Red Rock Canyon - $5 per car, 13 mile scenic drive. It's 15 mins west of the strip.
2. Bellagio water show, every 15 mins starting at 8 pm, free.
3. Volcano eruption at Mirage, every 30 mins starting at 8, free.
4. Treasure Island, pirate show, every hour or so, starting at 7, free.
5. Sigfried/Roy Secret Gardens, $15 per person, up close to their beautiful tigers.
6. Top of Stratosphere, $8, see Vegas at night, also at top is roller coaster.
7. MGM, at 10 am let lions out to room in clear cage while you gamble nearby, free.
8. Fremont Street. Old Vegas, downtown, 4 blocks long, closed off to traffic (Cris Angel sometimes performs on the street). The most amazing light show done to music, every hour starting at 8, free.
9. Flamingo. They have flamingos and penguins outside near valet parking, free.
10. New York/New York. Roller coaster inside/out $8 to ride. Look around inside if never been to NY.
11. Paris. Go to the top of the Eiffel Tower, $15.
12. Mandalay Bay, shark reef, $18 per person.
13. Luxor, pyramid shape casino, go in and look around.
14. The Wynn. Most expensive to build, $4 billion, absolutely gorgeous inside.

Places to eat - I avoid eating inside the casinos as I can't afford to pay $25 per person for a buffet. Across the street from the Wynn Casino is "Fashion Mall" which is 2 stories, top floor has about 20-25 places to eat, very inexpensive.

Renting a car is very inexpensive compared to trying to walk everywhere or take a taxi or the "monorail" which is broken half the time. Getting around Vegas in a car is very easy, of course that's my opinion.

Hope this helps.
RE: Hotel in NYC

I'm thinking of going to NYC for a weekend to go to a musical with my daughter for her birthday in February.  Can anyone recommend a hotel where the price is reasonable and close to Broadway, if possible.

Hotel
Thanks. I'll look into that. I figured most of the places would be expensive, but of course don't like the idea of staying someplace dumpy either.
I would much rather be in a hotel...sm
because like you said you can do what you like. I am a night owl and if I want to lay in bed and watch TV half the night I can.
Hotel in Beckley
Country Inns and Suites is nice. There is also a Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn that is nice.
Check with your hotel . . .
I have found that the hotel will usually hold the baggage until a later time.
Okay, I'm that way in a hotel, with twists (sm)
I take antimicrobial Febreeze and spray the blanket and bedspread down first thing. It makes everything feel and smell clean so I can relax. I take my own supply of towels and pillowcases. I lay a fresh pillowcase over the pillow each night. I only use hotel towels for the floor mat and to mop up counters and dry off bottles. I wash any dishes before use unless they are wrapped in plastic. I always bring flipflops so I don't have to walk barefoot on the carpet at all. I check the foot of the bed for signs of bedbugs - bugs or brownish stains from poo.

I never sleep without underwear under my full-length PJs anyway! I'd love to be assured they are washing their sheets and towels in hot water with enough Tide and Oxyclean to be up to my standards, and then drying them thoroughly, but I sincerely doubt it.

We'll be parking at the hotel
It's $25. It's more convenient for us to drive so we don't have to have the train schedule dictate when we have to leave. Thanks for the advice, though. It should be interesting to say the least.
condos versus hotel
Hi, the only tip I really have is check out the rates of the condos on the beach for weekly rentals.
I know they are probably high for summer time, but they offer full kitchens and more amenities than hotels usually... and you can save a lot of money by making your own meals instead of eating out all the time. The end of the summer we got a really good rate at Emerald Isle in North Carolina... I know that's far from you, I'm not sure if FL is as cheap... but you could look at Myrtle Beach too. Just think you're going to be paying probably at least 100.00 a night in a hotel... depending on how many nights you are staying you may just want to look into the condo idea, and if you need any help once you figure out where you want to go I'd be happy to i LOVE doing that kinda stuff :) have fun and good idea to start saving early
I usually prefer a hotel bed. Most people's
I can stay up til 2AM like I usually do, eat whatever, get up late, have M&Ms for breakfast and watch cartoons if I feel like it. And don't have to keep on being chatty and nice. I can just be my grouchy old self in a hotel room. The TVs are usually better too, and you don't have to wait to use the bathroom.
Anyone live near Beckley, W. Va and can you tell me which hotel is the nicest there. nm
:
He was gambling at the hotel at the time with another friend. He was there. nm

I know you all are bakin crispy & I feel for you! I live in Phoenix, AZ & am crispy

Oh Wow. Staying in downtown Atlanta in a historic hotel. This place is haunted. No one

told me this, I am a Christian and I feel this heavy spirit following me everywhere I go! How crazy is that? I believe there is something here at this place. It is a beautiful place, but definitely something spiritual going on here. This was the place where they had some Gone With The Wind ball many years ago. Very strange.

We are here visiting and going to the zoo, children's museum, and aqauarium this week. Wow. I have the chills right now! night night

She's a very spoiled little girl, who is going to inherit millions from the Hilton Hotel fortune
and from her father's real estate fortune.  She basically jumped into the limelight when her little personal homemade sex video was leaked out.  She is described as a "socialite, actress, and singer."  She likes to party hard and doesn't want to pay or take any responsibility for her own irresponsible actions, such as driving with a suspended license, DUI, you get the picture.

Las Vegas,
in a heartbeat!
VEGAS
Call the hotels there and ask about packages and best prices.  They used to give you freebies, like your hotel is free even.  Go to places like the Rio online or NewYork NewYork,  and others too numerous to mention.  The Rio used to have killer free deals and I loved it there, had a suite with two bedrooms and a living room, a bar, etc.  That would help you pay for your plane tickets if they still have deals like that.
he's got many, Vegas now too....

I am in Miami- South Beach has one and I think he's opening one in Fort Lauderdale, has one in Orlando, the Big Easy (NOLA), now Gulfport MS since 11/06, Vegas, probably several in California - he's on a HUGE roll.....*bankroll*  *LOL*

Las Vegas
We get a lot people who come for the holidays to get away from the cold weather.
Just in Vegas about a month ago
Go there a lot, the Flamingo is catty-corner to the Bellagio where we have stayed the last 2 times there. Know where it is because I went to a show there. Older place, smoky, they have real flamingos out in the back with ducks, etc, been there but not to stay. Toni Braxton headlining there and George Wallce comedian there now. Know what I talk about.
Just got in from Las Vegas so the weekend
should be a little less active.
No more charters to Las Vegas?!
I was just told by a travel agent that there are no longer charters to Las Vegas. Is this everywhere or just from Dallas? I can't hardly believe that they would just totally cut them out. I wanted to take my son to Monster Jam Finals in March and the lowest price I could get for 2 adults/2 children is $1552 for only 2 nights
No mor charters to Vegas
Hi, Not sure where you are in Texas, but Allegiant Air flies from Laredo and McAllen to Vegas and they are a WONDERFUL airline -- the flights are nonstop, however, they do not fly every day of the week and they also post the fares on the days you plan to travel, so there is no 14 day or 21 day advance purchase involved.

Also, regarding a hotel, not sure how long you plan to be there but I would check out Budget Suites -- for a week, it would run you no more than $200 and includes full kitchen facilities as well.

I used Allegiant when I flew from Las Vegas to Illinois and I left Vegas at 6:00 a.m. and got to Illinois at 11:30 a.m. Central time, they then clean the plane and deadhead back to Vegas. The last time I used Allegiant, I was able to get a one way fare on Christmas Day for $19 -- with taxes, my ticket came out to $40, so it might be worth it to check it out

Hope this helps.
It's within a few hours of Las Vegas I believe
and 35 years ago when I lived in Vegas - Pahrump was a very, very small town - probably just a dot on the map - maybe not even a stop light - think I heard recently on some travel show that it had grown - but then again most all Nevada towns lately have.
Considering there are cameras everywhere in Vegas -sm
if it was him it is sure to be on tape at the hotel. Hopefully the man is not that s*t*u*p*i*d to do such a thing, but who knows, who cares really. It would be quite ironic if he got locked up on a burglery charge though.
Vegas scary?
My husband and I visit all the time- he has nights when he goes where he wants and I go where I want- I love the shows, he does not- we split up and OMG, I am a woman all by myself out on the streets of Vegas… I am scaring myself! People are all over the streets day and night- I feel completely safe, probably safer than in my home town. Why scare someone??

Sopranos show in Vegas

Has anyone been to this show?  Going to Vegas in the spring and thinking of seeing this show.  We're very big Sopranos fans. Just wondering if anyone has seen it or knows anyone who has and what they thought.  TIA.

OK, I'm not a Sopranos fan, but a show in Vegas?

Saw John Edwards in Las Vegas
not that thrilled, no time for most of the audience, accepted very few questions from very few folks so would have felt better if more able to participate than say 4 or 5 for the total time.
Vegas, The Ghost Whisperer, and yes,
I love America's Next Top Model too. I actually love a lot of reality shows. I'm also looking forward to January when American Idol starts again, and I watch all the VH1 Reality shows.

Where to Stay in Las Vegas PhillyChick...sm
Just wanted to add my 2 cents!  We usually stay with my sis when we go to Vegas, but in the past two years we have stayed at the MGM and New York, New York.  I really liked the MGM - lots to see inside the casino.  We aren't gamblers.  The first room we were given at the MGM was very small so we asked for a different room and we got it.  Things I like to do in Vegas: visit the Fashion Show Mall on the strip {across the street from Treasure Island}, the Bellagio - the dancing waters, the Forum shops, Eiffel Tower and the shops at the Paris, Fremont Street Experience - the light show is great!, and try to find Elvis impersonators!  Nothing can compete with a Nascar Race - I'm envious - but have you been to Sedona, AZ?  It is beautiful!  About a 2 hour drive from Phoenix - I think.  And Jerome, AZ, on the way to Sedona is an old western town that is fun too.  Oh, almost forgot, "The District" in Green Valley in Henderson {suburb of Vegas} is a neat place to go to shop also.  It is about 20 minutes from the Strip - very easy to get to.  Have a great time at the Nascar Race and a great trip!
You're right! I did see carpet like that in Vegas! sm
Yours looks a lot nicer!
These are my two most favorites, but I prefer the CSI in Vegas...sm
I think Grissom is awesome!

bookingbuddy.com showing cheap Vegas flights
Try www.bookingbuddy.com I just got an email from them a few days ago, and Vegas was one of the cities they were highlighting as having fares on sale right now.
Off to Vegas to meet up with my best friend from high school. sm

I have not seen or heard from her since our 30-year-old sons were babies.  Then we found each other again on Classmates.com and arranged this little vacation.  Tonight I will see her after all these years.  I'm concerned that I won't have much to say (I'm a very quiet person normally) but we do have show tickets and horseback riding and shopping scheduled already plus I MUST find time to do some gambling (I live where there is NO gambling).  I'm very excited!!  Plus I booked Business Class tickets.

That Classmates.com is pretty amazing.  I have connected with not only her but my first real love (and first broken heart), 2 girl friends, and 2 old family friends.  I really love having this connection with the past because I have very few memories of my years until I was about 23 due to much trauma and it is great to go back and visit some good times.

Wish me luck!!
