Horton Hears a Who (seriously)

Since I have a 7-year-old, I don't get to see many grown up movies. We have a theatre here in town that's only $1 on Mondays. Every movie eventually gets there, it just might take a couple of months.
So last night, I had rented The Number 23 -- wow, that was really cool. Sorta stretched it on the coincidences, but it was very Hitchcock-ish. Especially loved the ending. Then, this morning, my boy is counting the money in his wallet and says, "I have 10 plus 5 plus 8." I about fell over. Good movie.

My daughter hears this a lot.....sm
She is a elementary teacher and it seems in this school there are more than the norm (if there is a norm) on the number of parents in jail for drugs, alcohol, etc. They live with whatever relative can take them in, elderly grandparents, cousins, and most of the time they aren't being watched properly and won't communicate with the teacher, so it's hard on her to hear them talk about stuff. She offers comfort best she can and tells them they can always talk to her, but when she goes home, she can't stop thinking about those she knows are in a bad way at home.
Before I could read, it was 'Horton Hears a Who' - sm
but what I REALLY liked best of all were National Geographics. Because I was so interested in the photographs, my mom taught me how to read out of those magazines. I also still have my first 'real' book that I got when I was 6, that was my Dad's book when he was young - 'Richard Halliburton's Book of Marvels' - a book about the many wonders of the world, such as the Sphinx, the Inca & Maya civilizations, the Pyramids, etc. My favorite was the Blue Grotto on the island of Capri, which I got to actually see when I was 26! It was beautiful, and VERY blue... just like the author described. I hated the 'D1ck & Jane' books in first grade, 'cuz I was already an avid reader by then, and all that 'See Spot Run' was just TOOOO boring! So I quickly got into the bad habit of daydreaming during class, or else drawing pictures & writing my own stories inside the textbooks, which was frowned upon by the teacher........ ;D
Doesn't sound like my idea of a great community when your neighbor hears you whisper
I'm with you. Love the country. Most of those homeowner's associations (at least here in Texas) are power mongers.
