Hold on, now - not all old folks have that smell

Posted By: Gertie on 2007-09-25
In Reply to: What is it with old stinky animals! - Hayseed

I have an aunt who is 89 and she always smells so good, likes her really nice perfume and never a stinky. She is in 80 group. I am quickly getting to that ole folks age but I also love smelling nice although I don’t do the perfume as I love those nice shower gels.

Hold off on 911...
Nah, not elderly...yet. Just raised with good morals and my priorities are where they should be. I don't expect people to give me anything.

Doesn't matter if you spend $20 or $20,000. Again, you spend what you can afford. If 10,000 was under budget, great. You suggested everyone should give a minimum of $25 then your 60 guests x 25 = $1,500. You made a profit.

If the "bride and groom incurred a very big expense", that's their problem. Take a nice honeymoon? I wonder how many don't even HAVE a honeymoon. Why do you think you are entitled to a nice honeymoon?

You are missing the point. A gift is a GIFT. Whether it's money or an object, it is GIVEN to the bride and groom from their guests out of the goodness of their hearts.

People like myself do understand that the bride and groom or someone dished out some heavy duty dough for a wedding, and we sit there at the table and say "Can you imagine what they paid for this?" Then we laugh.

Guess I'm being too practical, but I'd rather take the money it cost for the traditional wedding and put it towards a house.

How's this for a new theory: you save until you have enough for the wedding AND honeymoon of your dreams. THEN you get married.

By the way, I do give money at a wedding, but I give what I can afford.

NOW you can call 911.
hold off if possible!
Had I known about flushes prior to my surgery in 2001, I would have done everything in my power to have avoided it. My digestive system is so out of whack since I don't have a gallbladder, it's terrible. I have done 5 flushes since this past May and have seen all kinds of stuff come out. I really believe they could have saved me. I just didn't know about them and of course the Dr.'s aren't going to tell you. All they say is that you don't really need it. Visit www.curezone.com and checkout the liver flush forum. That's where I learned about it. Good luck!
Hold out until you get a new job.
Sounds like a few companies..
I am when I can get a hold of her...sm
I have been trying to call and can't get an answer.
trying to hold on, but I also am
starting a "sock account"!
He did say he wanted to hold off since my dog sm
is young, only 1-1/2 years old. I'm a wreck from trying to keep on eye on him as much as possible. Then, when I get comfortable after he hasn't had one for awhile, another one occurs. Just 3 weeks ago we had 15 inches of snowfall and I let him and our other dog out to potty. Well, I called them in and found the little guy in a snowbank and the ned of our lot shivering with the endings of a seizure. I ran outside in my barefeet and got him out of the snowbank and carried him in. It just tears me up to watch it. LOL--it probably IS worse on us than the poor poochies.
SHUT UP AND HOLD ON!

hold on tight - sm
You need not to panic.  The stock market is going to have highs and lows of varying degrees.  If you bail out now you will have lost money, plus all the taxes you will pay.  Hang on!!
I can smell it now

Food= Prune cake (tastes like a chocolate chip cake with pecans in it)  My grandmother always made it for me I now make it for my kids and friends but it is now called ChocoChip cake.

Present=  Still to this day I LOVE the coupons my daughter makes.  Free baby sitter.   Run your bath.  Cook Supper. Clean the Kitchen.  and my favorite my reusable unlimited hug coupon good for the next year. These presents are the ones that make me cry and she always seems to come up with a new coupon that has a special meaning for me.

Christmas isn't all about the money to everyone.  If you dont like the way things are then start by changing them at home and you'd be surprised how far reaching those changes can be.  MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I can smell those now but
which ones, if any, would I be able to have inside my home? Payday today and gonna head out later to get something sweet.
Tried it! Now they smell like cat poo.
Still, it is in improvement.

< just being silly >
Another way to get the smell out s/m

is using vinegar.  My cats no longer have accidents in the house, but when they did, this worked wonders!  I have one of those Bissell green machines and mix it with water.  I have to make sure the litter box is cleaned daily and I also have 2 boxes.  They aren't that picky on the type of litter that I get, so I'm lucky on that part.

I would definitely get some cat toys, maybe her own blanket rubbed with catnip to start with and hopefully she will start to give some respect.  Maybe she wants her own bed? LOL

My son has a cat that will allow no one but him to touch her (except if she is hungry of course).  She will come up and act nice, but when you pet her, she bites.  We have all just learned not to mess with her as we cannot get rid of her as it would greatly upset my son.

If she is still doing it, go to the vet.  The other poster is right about possible urinary tract infection, etc.

Actually, it really does not smell much at all. s/m

I also like to get the "mentholated" kind -- it makes my skin tingly!!  And don't forget, the generic brands are much cheaper!!

Don't know why folks would even ask
such a thing!  If they do, tell them you don't need a gift just for them to come, eat, enjoy the company and check out your new digs.  Never heard of such a thing and would not appreciate it if I were a guest.  I always take a perishable gift anyway...wine, plant, food.  It is not that big of a deal!
I went and took a lot of folks
Ok, there were 3 adults and 4 kids and I paid for everything down to everyones clothing. I got the jumper pack, I believe is what they called it. Got there Saturday, started Sunday at Universal all day and then Monday through the following Friday we went every day to at least 2 parks and 1 day went to a water park. It cost an arm and a leg but the kids were two 8 year olds, two 11 year olds and then the adults who were kids also. What a blast. The entire trip from next state up to there with rental van and everything probably cost over 10,000 for the time. What wonderful memories though.
thanks folks!
will have to check this other one (Kimkins) out too.
i so hope i can get myself reined in before i come up with diabetes or something...
Hold the pickles.....have had it that way...yuck!

Hold on, can you or can you not kill a spider?
I just killed 1 the other night and I do not know if I was supposed to do something else to go along with that or do I have a jinx from now on?
Also did you know if you hold in your stomach muscles
and breathe slowly in and out through your nose it works the stomach muscles? This is based on Pilates and also Greer Childers breathing techniques for losing weight. I do this while watching TV, working, driving and standing when I think about it and not sure if that is why but I have very little belly fat.

It's a buyers market. Just hold on to that job.

your fear should not hold him back.
I understand your feelings, but this seems like a completely reasonable and good trip being planned, one that could mold his mind/heart for his future. Your son could make a very positive difference in many others lives. If you haven't already, learn to trust God.
Are you going to hold his hand on the subway, too?nm

Mine's 43...don't hold your breath ;-) nm

Well, dont hold your breath.

Victor can hold a grudge but...
he loves Niki. It will be rough for a while but I think all in all this will bring them closer together since it involves both of them so directly and of course the kids.

I think a lot is about to happen with Adam pretty soon too. He thinks the Newman's are a broken family but he doesn't understand the half of it. He didn't really grow up in a traditional family and I don't think realizes there are bumps in the road but they are still family and will always be close - the last few months is typical of the Newman's but will come back together as a tight knit group.

Do you ever watch on holidays? They usually do re-runs of old episodes.

Let me know if you have any questions about the past. I have been watching for about 20 years. I started as a kid because my entire family has watched it routinely since it started and I was sucked in with the rest. My husband now watches it (but of course denies lol). A lot is based on history of the characters.
i hate it when i hold the door for someone and they
snotty, like i owed them that courtesy.  i've even said "you're welcome" to people.  once, a woman said, "I didn't ask you to hold the door for me, fat ass."  nice.
Unfortunately, children do hold grudges...
YOU call him. He hasn't had enough life experiences to know any better. Show him how things are done. I would just say I am sorry if I have wronged you. It wasn't my intention. Maybe I could have done things differently. I love you. Come over for Christmas.

Even though children hold grudges, they never stop loving their parents. It is the people you love who can bring about the most upset and emotion.

Thanks to all, but with the loss of bone to hold the
teeth in, it seems I don't have many options.  I just met this dentist, who is just wonderful, on Wednesday through a friend.  I am going back in 2 weeks to have an old filling replaced that has cracked.  I will talk in more detail with him about options when I begin losing my teeth.  I was told I had about a 40% bone loss on the bottom especially in the front.  Thanks again.
I only have 1 question - if you hold these degrees
what are you doing on this forum? Why are you not putting your masterful degrees to a better position that would be more than the lowly MT
Hold it, are you saying zinc helped your
insomnia? I have gone through some natural items my husband had and still waking usually every 2 hours during the night, drives me crazy and needless to say the next day feeling like a zombie. I also take biotin and have the longest eyelashes now, not so much help for the hair but my dermatologist told me to take that the rest of my life due to the severe hair loss. Talk about avoiding the scales, only my scales and I know the truth there, do not even weigh in the doctor's offices, just tell them take a guess.
You can use other primers that don't smell quite sm
as bad as Kilz. I only use Kilz in the summer when I can open the windows. It can make you pass out without good ventilation. Otherwise, I use a latex primer which works just as well although I sometimes have to use 2 coats. I agree, though, the oil-based Kilz is the best.
I had one and even descented, they smell.

Ferrets smell really bad!

You are so welcome!! I was also worried about the smell,
especially since I noticed it was also for horse manes, but it sure did help our hair. So glad it helped your little one!! :)
If you are not a smoker you will be able to smell - sm
it on him a mile away. Obviously if you smoke you won't be able to smell it, and also the odds are he will smoke too (that is if you do). If you don't smoke it is possible he is telling the truth, as for punishment for having them the obvious answer is to withhold something he loves for a couple of weeks, whether it is TV, or afterschool activities, or video games, or driving if he has a learner's permit. Good luck.
they smell chemical changes...
my friend had kept a retreiver that wandered up and when my friend got pregnant, Fancy would not part from her side until after the baby was born. My neighbor had trouble with her son and his "friends". Somehow, the bull got loose and was kept for 2 to 3 days in the front yard (we're in the country) until the fence was mended. That is when she found out he made a good watchdog; he would not let any of the "potheads" in. Anybody doing drugs was greeted with earflapping and then a charge!
vaginal smell
Has anyone had any bad smell after using K-Y jelly even after taking a shower after four hours, I mean a foul smell?
smell test
I can tell when the teacher has hugged my kid because she smells like the perfume the teacher wears.

A school day is long. Better the teacher is kind to your child than mean (and there are both kinds of teachers.)
Oh, I can just smell the aroma now
I have read this and thanks so much. I have been using the drip and fussing at hubs who is usually the one to "upgrade" things around the house. I told about having the Cuban coffee the other day and yummy! I thank you for this and will print off so I can contain the information you sent. Thanks!

Old folks get bored. sm

My 86-yo dad is the same way.  Sticking his nose into my business.  He also constantly rags on me about my son not mowing the grass, etc.  I have explained to him that I LIKE to mow the grass and to please drop it and he just keeps on and on.  One day he walked in my office and shook his finger at me and said, "You just wait, you just wait, y'all are drinking way too much pop."  This because I buy it when it's on sale and it lasts a very long, long time.  And, by the way, neither my son nor I are overweight.  Older people just can't (anyways he can't) realize I am 53 years old and have lived on my own without his valuable input for a long time.  He just doesn't have anything else to do.

The thing that really bugs me is when he comes over and just plops down in here when I am working and I tell him he can't be in here when I'm working and he gives me all kinds of excuses ("I can't see read what you're typing") and I have to just keep the screen minimized until he goes.  He just doesn't get it.  The other day I told him to go over and check on my cousin's new fence, and that got his train of thought going in a different direction and off he went.  He called me one day and told me not to commit to the big diocesan pledge thing that's going on, that I am to tell them I am a single parent just barely scraping by, etc., etc., and I wanted to tell him I am not quite that destitute yet, but I just agreed.

Oh, and I have an extremely screwed-up sister, too, who Dad thinks can do no wrong and her son is the greatest, etc., etc.  Oh, the stories I could tell about her!  Well, it was me who gave him a place to live after Katrina and it was me who gave him my couch for his new house because he didn't have one (another delusional idea, he thinks he is broke), not her, so I just keep quiet and keep civil and remind myself he's old.   When it gets to be too much I tell his sisters, who tell him to back off then he does for a while.  All part of life.

Denver folks out there?
I have posted before and do not want to get into WWIII but supposed to go on vacation next week to Salt Lake City, Wyoming and the like, leaving from Denver and wanted to know if anyone can suggest sights, restaurants for my last day of vacation before returning home.
Thanks for the feedback folks....sm
The 15-year-old now doesn't like ya'll but they'll get over it! I only posted it because they thought it wasn't fair to not give them the same amount of money. "Too bad" is what I said - we live on a budget and buy what is necessary not just what is wanted around here because we're paying off some bills.
Oh ya, folks definitely know I'm 'from away'

as soon as I open my pie hole.  Some people don't mind that we're 'from away' (their endearing term for us outta stata's), but some folks get down right nasty about it.  I suppose it's like anywhere though....I guess folks in Florida don't like the people from New England either because I once saw a bumpah stikah that said, "Keep the south beautiful, put a yankee on a bus" or something like that.  It was a long time ago and my memory isn't what it used to be.

Why don’t folks use their brains
Ladies going to psychiatrist. He is on the wanted list now- had them to undress, pulling their blouses, shirts up and you would think some one would have enough sense to say WHAT? This does not come under psychiatry. No, these women get on television and tell about how they pulled them up. I would be ashamed to let people know I was that stoopid.
my folks go every year x55 yr?
to the same place. Pacific Grove/Carmel "by the sea"...It is breathtaking beauty, quaint village, great food, free beaches. Nearby trails in the woods...Clint Eastwood country :) I don't think the beaches could possibly be more beautiful anywhere else.
Anna Nicole's burial on hold maybe
Anna Nicole's mother is trying to stop her daughter from being buried right now.  Also the father of Daniel is trying to have his son's body exhumed.   This is really sickening.   Let her REST IN PEACE already.
I'd hold off on the foot pedal, Scott, sm
