Fortune Cookie Stuffer on Vacation
I've been reading on CNN that in China they have many millions of migrant workers trying to get back home for the Lunar New Year. China has had the worst snow in over 50 years for about a week. They have so many people stranded that they finally came to the conclusion travel would not be advised! They figure this disruption of the country has cost them $7.5 billion! Looks like your fortune cookie stuffer is stranded on vacation now.
My last fortune cookie was written in English...sm
on one side and Spanish on the other!
We don't eat out. We get takeout
once or twice a month and rarely go over $15 a meal.
For nights that I'm too tired to cook, I pull a precooked meal out of the freezer.
When I'm energetic, I double my meals and freeze a portion for another meal. I also stock up on Banquet frozen dinners (2 fers) when they're on sale and use those, too. Hubby loves their salisbury steak and meatloaf.
She's a very spoiled little girl, who is going to inherit millions from the Hilton Hotel fortune
and from her father's real estate fortune. She basically jumped into the limelight when her little personal homemade sex video was leaked out. She is described as a "socialite, actress, and singer." She likes to party hard and doesn't want to pay or take any responsibility for her own irresponsible actions, such as driving with a suspended license, DUI, you get the picture.
Empty nester and
loving it, the best time of my life, so much easier, no more people I have to be responsible for, married but remarried after the children had left already so still happy. i have my time to myself, so happy...
Empty Nester
I only WISH I were an empty nester!! Those kids just won't LAUNCH!! Well, not completely true. Four have launched, one is still not terribly old, and the older one still with me is at least getting on through college. I actually have three in college right now. (I've been single for 20 years.)
Used to take my youngest places, sometimes take my grandson. But if I want to do something, I just go. Have driven thousands of miles alone on trips. It makes me feel young and free to get in my car and just drive while I listen to a book on CD or MP3.
If you are actually a senior or retired, bet you could do some of those touring things and within a trip or two come up with a really great traveling companion.
I have a close friend who will be traveling with me once I can finally launch the kids and retire.
2.26!! Filled up my SUV for 45.00 - and it was empty!

Empty nest
I went through the "empty nest" 3 times. I have 2 boys and 1 girl. My daughter is very close to her brothers, as she is the 'baby." We both cried when my first son got married and left the state. We played his favorite songs and cried together, but we got over it. Boys seem to be able to leave easier than girls. I hear from my sons every month or so. They live in Oklahoma, and my daughter and I live in Ohio. My daughter is 25. I moved to Ohio when she was 19. When she got married, I went (and paid for) to the wedding. That was the first time I met her "husband." I missed her so much that my heart ached. We were so close. I was living here in Ohio with no family or friends and just typed all day long and that was it. Well, one day my daughter called me and said they were coming to Ohio to live, as the job market was not good in OK. Her husband had been a jockey and broke his ankle, and could not even ride any longer. They came here and lived with me for 6 months until the upstairs apartment came available. She had a little girl, Autumn, 2 months before she came to Ohio. They still live upstairs. I see them everyday. She had another baby, Summer, who then died of SIDS at 3 months of age. We helped each other through the toughest thing in our lives. She then had twins last December, Wynter and Breanna Spring. The were born at 33 weeks, 3 pounds and 3.4 pounds. I now watch them every morning and afternoon while she takes and picks up Autumn from school. I am watching them right now while she is shopping.
I am telling you this to let you know you never know what life has in store for you. I would never had thought my daughter would be here with me, and I would be a part of her every day life. I love it. My grandchildren love it. My daughter loves it, and even my son-in-law loves it. Life can really bring you lemonaide sometimes.
Diet pop is empty calories and crackers and some
...wheat breads will make you hungry faster. I'm strugglin' too and haven't made up my mind to start. All I'm comfy in are sweats.
my cat is 16. she went from living in my empty bedroom to my closet. sm
She goes between my closet and my husband's closet. She is eating well but just does not want to be bothered with us. She has always been a bit shy.
Stop giving empty threats and go through with one (sm)
If that means leaving temporarily or permanently then fine. You don't live with your 28 year old do you? If not, how can you threaten him? He's kind of out of your hands at this point. But you don't have to live with your husband if he is being a jerk.
Empty photo album and a journal.
Picking blackberries & putting them in an empty coffee can.
There was a field nearby with TONS of wild blackberry bushes. Some of them we would keep for ourselves and make blackberry cobbler, or we would sell them in empty coffee cans to the neighbors for $5/can. What a bargain!
About the Chinese drywall, etc.
Why doesn't our country do more about this crap! Lead in toys, poisonous drywall, and I once saw a Chinese business woman on TV bragging about her drug business ... how she uses ingredients other than the real drug (often poisonous to humans) and is getting rich on this business. She said she sells to many other countries with the U.S. being a top buyer. WHAT?! This woman was literally bragging on TV about it.
I don't understand why we haven't done something MAJOR about this.
I never go to the doc or get RXs, but does anyone know if one can tell if they came from China?
Got a question for empty nesters. Do you ever find that you want to do things and it is so hard to
find someone to do things with anymore. Do you just go alone and how does that work out or take a bus trip or what do you do. If you sit around waiting on someone to fit into your schedule you may never get to do anything. BTW, I am divorced also.
huh? The Chinese are the Olympic masters of
were involved with ball playing by women too.....here's a link for their culture and their sports history....they were always thought of as weak but they were not weak....

If you get Chinese food delivery, use the
I save every packet of sauces from my Chinese food delivery. Whether I'm cooking bar-b-q (ribs, chicken, pork chops, etc), or baking whatever or grilling, broiling, or boiling, I can usually throw together something from those packets depending on what flavoring I want to achieve. My dad taught me not to look at recipes, but just to think about how flavors work together and trust your guts. That doesn't work for everyone, but I've made some delicious dinners when I didn't have any other seasonings in the house but those Chinese food packets :) Try to remember to balance out a sweet with a sour (or salty) flavor. I remember how I was horrified when he put cinnamin in a pot roast once, but it was the best roast I ever had. He had been doing it for years...he just hid it from me. Once I knew he used it, I enjoyed it more than I ever had!
Chinese for me and the kids as hubs will be

Chinese. Movie at the theater or home on DVD?
Cookie frosting
When I read your post I thought of the black and white cookies, the frosting you described is very much that consistency, IMO. Here is a link to that recipe. You may want to make a few of these too. Yum..

She is one smart cookie
You can't fool her! I'm glad she's eating. That is always a good sign. Hope you both have a good day.
What is a Lofthouse cookie?
Pardon my ignorance.
I have no cookie self-control!
I used to bake piles and piles of cookies, gave lots away, too, but far too many went right into ME. One Christmas, I gained 10 pounds before the New Year! TEN POUNDS! Added to the other 50 I had gained over the years, and I was just disgusted. I tried not to eat the things, but I could not stop. So now, for the sake of my health, I don't bake cookies unless I'm headed out that same day to someone's house. I make my DH stand over me as the cookies come out of the oven, pack them up and put them into the car.
It sounds ridiculous, but I really can't stop myself!

Cookie rules
Here, we eat the dough too, and of the ones who make it to the baking stage are carefully inspected when they are removed from the oven because our rule is that we get to eat all the "cripples", you know the ones that are crooked or missing a leg or part of Santa's hat, or the tip of a star. If we don't have enough one of us always gets the spatula and cripples a few more so we can eat! Frosting day is another story altogether. By the time we are finished we usually have just a modest amount of cream cheese cutouts left and the same amount of gingerbread. We all need a diet by that time. Then, there is always "bread baking day" - so many baking days, so little self-control.
So, where's those cookie recipes?
Go ahead flood the board with cookie recipes. I can handle it.. I can bake every one of them, while I am listening to one dictator flip pages, and the other pausing..c'mon give me whatcha got. But seriously, I need some new ideas for the kids because pop n fresh dough holiday cookie cut outs. PS: See, I am finally getting in the holiday spirit.
News stated Mattel apologized to the Chinese?
They stated the lead paint issue was only a very small percentage of the recall problem and that poor design on their part was the main reason. News also stated it was important for them to do so, since "saving face" in China is very important. Saving children should be too.
Olympics - Female Chinese gymnasts - Do you think they were all 16 or turning 16?
I know our girls messed up, but I sure don't think those girls were all 16... just no way.
Hilarious/scary Chinese-->English Learning Aid...sm
Since language is "our thing" - and particularly ESL - I thought you'd like to get a head start on what to expect from future Chinese dictators. Get a load of these Chinese-to-English learning blocks (I'll post this as an URL you can paste into your browser since some are reluctant to click on links):

I suggest we practice by forming sentences, such as: "The patient is a construction worker who was operating a navvy when a crustacea flew into the cab. Mistaking it for a darning needle, he swatted at the crustacea and lost control of the navvy, which crashed. Unfortunately, he was not wearing a safety armet at the time and was knocked unconscious..."

some states honor common-law marriages - living together as a couple for 7+ years - and there are laws protecting the spousal unit in those cases...don't know what state you are in....but think about that....*S*
When in doubt, do nothing :)

I've decided to start a cookie business! Anyone up for helping me out with a name?
I know with the economy and all, it's probably not a good time to open a new business, but I've been thinking about this for years and just want to do it anyway and very happy and excited about it!
So, some words I've been playing around with are yummy, goodies, goodness, sweets, comfort, cookies ... but nothing is really grabbing me. I've even tried to think of ideas without those type of words above, such as "Big D's" or whatever.
If anyone has any good ideas, I'd love to hear them!
