Guest books are not new

I had one at my wedding 22 years ago.  I was also guest book attendant for a friend from high school.  Got there early, got to see everyone as they came in and say hi to people I hadn't seen in awhile.  Not that big of a deal.  Of course, she didn't tell me what I had to wear, either.

Are you the hostess or the guest for this Thanksgiving? If a guest, what

I've sold 125 books on half.com but most were my childrens college text books. I have sold some
t I picked up for a quarter at a thrift store. Old Dr. Seuss books do well. I price them a bit lower than the rest of the pack and put that they are from a nonsmoking home. Half.com does take a small commission but they deposit the check in your bank account monthly.
Books! That's it? Books! I was expecting
maybe some leather chaps or some strap ons by the sound of your post! lol
I'm a guest
We go to my parent's house every year. We usually just bring some cornbread or some type of dessert.
Guest...
And all the guests bring a covered dish, a dessert, and a drink. The hostess does the meat (turkey) and a veggie or 2, plus desserts...plus all the cleaning, planning, etc., which is why I'm glad it's not my year to hostess!
Until they become family they are a guest...
and should sleep in the guest room like anyone else! Totally agree :)
No, I mean she is the ONLY guest of honor and I am ignored (sm)
We have to celebrate how she wants, where she wants, etc. and she is lavished with attention while I am barely acknowledged as being a mother that day at all. Of course she still qualifies as a mother - but I am one too!
Why do they need someone in charge of the guest book?
You leave it on the table by the placecards, and people sign it when they get their table assignments. I have never seen anyone in charge of a guest book before. Talk about micromanaging.
Your post, she is always the guest of honor?
even though you are still raising children does not make sense to me. Do you mean once a child grows up you don’t qualify for a mother anymore?
Is it rude to ask a house guest

how long they will be staying.  My MIL came Sunday to go to a doctor's appointment Monday. Well, the doctor appointment is over and it is already Wednesday and she is still here.    She does tell us pretty much when she is coming but there is no end in sight.  She is super sensitive and cries a lot with "you don't want me" so I don't know how to ask without any water works.  I just want to know what to expect.

The other day Racheal Ray had a guest with a good suggestion.
She soaked a cotton ball with vanilla extract, placed in a cute, little glass dish and set it in her fridge.  Bet that would work for you!!!
The guest list is up to the bride & groom....sm
no one else!  Of course if grandma wants to foot the bill for the wedding then I'm sure they'd consider her desires.
I once was assigned guest book duty.
Like you, I didn't know what that entailed. When I arrived at the reception, I was told to hold the thing as people walked up and signed it. Basically, I was a human podium. If that's what the bride wants you to do, tell her to leave it on the table! How rude of her to expect so much! Show up in the red dress and don't even sign the silly guest book!
This new guest book thing is dumb anyway
something else to add to the list of a gazilion ways to fawn all over the couple! Gag. Who really cares? Can you believe people are so full of themselves these days? It's truly mind boggling. And with the divorce rate being 50% or higher, why do they even bother?

I'd definitely be there in my red dress for sure, would maybe even stuff my bra so my cleavage popped out!
Anything to get out of the dumb guest book thing!

It's actually insulting, you too are supposed to be a guest :)

Let us know what happens!!!

Totally agast, unwelcomed guest, how to handle
Last Christmas my husband's nephew was invited for Christmas breakfast and his friend came along. They were from out of town. They about ate us out of house and home and the friend after breakfast helped himself to the remote, changed channels and then spread across the couch and decided to go to sleep. These guys have no manners (older group here and they are hip-hop type guys). They later went to another family's home where they again were unmannerly. Get this, now the nephew calls (we had invited some other people) and he told husband he said he would be glad to give these people a ride!  I know he probably is planning to have another dinner here (now not only his friend is in town but also wife and 4 kids). I would be so mortified to have all those folks show up, I probably would be very, very rude and it would be Christmas. My husband is not confrontational and did not say anything when his nephew said he offered to bring others and from another state. Ok, what would you do in this situation? Thanks!
Brunch guest who can't have dairy or salt - snowed in!

Out of ideas! Also, looking for simple recipe for brunch requiring stuff I have on hand. Martha always has some confounded ingredient I never heard of. Lost my hash brown recipe. Have frozen hash browns, sour cream, cr. chicken soup, butter & chips, forgot how I put them all together last time. Locked in, more snow coming, zero degrees in NE, don't even know if people will make it here. I'm frustrated. Have a spiral ham on hand, thank goodness! Sounds like I'll be cooking but will they come in the stormy weather. Darned if I do, darned if I don't!  The no dairy, no salt thing is driving me up the walls.

Oh well, have a happy holiday. Tip: Put furniture polish or cooking oil on your snow shovel and the snow won't stick.

There are books
http://www.dog-training-talk.com/book-how-to-housebreak-your-dog-in-7-days-revised-pp2-215.html
Books
I loved Anne of Green Gables, and I also loved the Nancy Drew books.
Books
I couldn't get enough of Dr. Seuss. My father used to read Green Eggs and Ham to me allllllll the time. I gave him a copy when my son was born so he could carry on the tradition with his grandchildren. I then moved on to Sweet Valley High.
more books
Ok then my kids loved all the Dr. Seuss books and Mercer Mayer books!
Try these books - sm
The God Delusion and God is NOT Great.  You are not alone.

are there any books that tell how to become an IC?
my son had always liked the J.R. Tolkin books sm
like Lord of the Rings, etc. just a suggestion.
Med transcription books
I was wondering if any one could recommend a good drug book.  Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a good surgical book?  Thanks!
to sell more books
She wants to create more hype about the books. I agree, I don't think it was at all appropriate to discuss that in relation to what is marketed as a children's book.
One more suggestion - buy the books
second-hand and/or get the paperbacks for those out in paperback. No need to go broke.
Which is better - books or movies?
I never really caught on to the whole Harry Potter thing - it even took me a while to like the movies. But everyone is so crazy about the books, my curiosity is killing me. I don't have a lot of extra money to invest to quash my curiosity, so which should I invest in - the movies or the books? I do know that usually books are better than movies, but I'd hate to spend all that money if the movies are just as good!
I loved them both, but get the books
and then nobody will have to talk you into seeing the rest of the movies, LOL.

Plus with the movies you don't get into Harry's head as much, and that's where you get to know Harry. I can only imagine that people who only see the movies don't know him nearly as well as the readers do.

My favorite books
My absolute favorite book of all time is Paint the Wind by Cathy Cash Spellman. My next favorite which are hard to find (the author passed away) is by Day Taylor - The Black Swan & Moss Rose.

I used to like Danielle Steele until she started making her characters snooty, but her older books Thurston House, Palamino and The Ring are some of my favorites.

Another good one is Barbara Taylor Bradford's "A Woman of Subtance". Bout a woman from the 1800s/early 1900s who went from being a maid to being a successful business woman. My husband saw the movie and he loved it.

However, I wish I still had the book Paint the Wind. I could read that over and over and over.
Truly A Day for the History Books

DH replaced the empty toilet paper roll last night.

In the 32 years we have been together, this is the first time I can remember him replacing a roll. Please don't tell anyone else because they would probably kick him out of the He Man Club, which all men who don't replace rolls (and that would be 99% of them) secretly belong to.

This is one of those days where, years from now, I will think back about what I was doing when I discovered it. (Sort of like people do with other significant historical events.)

In my world, this is at least as big as discovering a cure for cancer, landing a man on the moon, or discovering life in outer space, so I just wanted to share the good news with you - because, ladies, it proves that there is hope for the rest of you!

Those are my very favorite books ever...!!!
I've read them all more than once and just LOVE them.  Can't wait for the 7th book, but I think that's the last one, which makes me sad.
I never knew there were books
I had never heard of the books, although then again we don't have any books stores in our town (except the section in Wal-Mart and Fred Meyer). I have heard a lot of times people like books better.
sorry... books not boooks nm

Unwanted books
The same thing happened to me Some time ago, I ordered a book.  In very tiny print, it said we will be sending you books annually or how often. You can review them and keep them for a price of                    . They are hoping that you will just keep the book and send them the $$$. I did finally call and tell them no thanks.
Unsolicited books being sent to me - sm
From a magazine I subscribe to.  They are trying to get me to purchase various related books from them.  I always refuse the package and do not even open it, then they send a bill or two, and then it begins all over again.  What does everyone suggest I do?  This is getting really old.
Good Books

Is anyone else into medical mysteries?  I love Robin Cook and Michael Palmer and actually pick up terminology from them.

I also love Ann Rule - she truly does rule - she writes true crime.

I occasionally still read Stephen King and Dean Koontz (only if it's not supernatural - he's really faltered there).

Lisa Gardner is awesome.

Any other avid readers?

Classics/Books

I'm not really one for the classics either though I did like To Kill a Mockingbird.

I haven't read Sue Grafton or Janet Evanovich.  I average at least 40 books a year between true crime, medical mysteries and murder mysteries.  I am also hooked on TV shows like Forensic files, FBI files, Cole Case Files and that show called something "Evil" where the forensic psychiatric examines the minds of serial killers.  What really spooked me was the BTK killer's lack of emotion.  It was just like he was talking about nothing more than an ATM withdrawal.  My husband jokes that I just read true crime and watch those shows because I'm plotting to kill him.

OH! I LOVE the Eragon books! Yes! Get him one! nm

if they had read their history books, they would not need to ask..nm

Janet Evanovich's books about
Stephanie Plum are wonderful. They are fast reads, very funny, relaxing. "One for the Money" is the first one.
I would love to send you 2 books. Please consider sm
this. I lost 2 family members on the same day back in March and I know your pain. email me and I will get them out to you.
I know you are looking for on-line help, but these books can be read in a day. Very easy reading. One book I know the author personally, attended a class he taught, and is a very good man. Email me.

Same here, I actually thought they were kids' books
What is so great about them? I do love to read so I am just curious what could possibly be happening in those books! My 13-year-old niece had her nose buried in the new one all day today she barely looked at us. lol. If they are that good I may be borrowing hers :)
That's why I don't read anything else but self-help books. Guffaw. nm
Y me?
Nancy Drew books
My daughter used to read those when she was young.
Stephenie Meyer's books
called the Twilight Series" - they are really good and I was so surprised.  Fun to read.  They are now making a movie of these and we are awaiting the fourth book that is supposed to come out in May.  Go to her website stepheniemeyer.com and yes, I know that is a weird way to spell stephenie.  I bought these for my daughter and then I ran out of things to read and they were really good for a change of pace and now I too am "hooked."
I passed around several transcription books -sm
at the beginning of a semester to a class at a business school for the 20+-year-old students to see various TX resources available and afterwards, one book was "missing". I was very surprised. Bottom line: The bookstore was out the book, and I hated the loss for the school. Actually the bookstore was probably out twice for the book if it was afterwards returned to the bookstore for resale by the student who stole it.
I've read the books (sm)

We actually got HBO solely for the reason of watching this series.  So far it is...okay?  I love the books but the series is not sticking strictly to them, and is changing some things that I don't think should be changed.  However, by itself, I do like the series.  Just hate it when they go from books and change majorly seriously big things!!
