I used to give my grandparents gift certificates to the local grocery store, sm
they would use them to buy special things like shrimp or other things that might cost a bit more that they wouldn't normaly buy for themselves. My parents are that age and I have given them restaurant gift certificates or if they have family out of town, prepaid phone cards, because I know some folks that age don't like paying for long distance calls.

called Fred's Beds and caught our Simmons on sale. I think the set was only $900. I was thrilled.
If you have a local craft store
like Hancock Fabrics or Joann Fabrics, they might be able to teach you the basics. You could also check with local quilting clubs - you might find a new hobby and meet new people this way.
Is there a local candy making store?
 They may have them, but not sure. I'm in Delaware, but we have a store that carries all kinds of little things to make your own candy. I do remember seeing cinnamon chips, and I wonder where they went? I wonder if you also tried Hershey's website for them or other websites. I wonder if you Google cinnamon chips???? just a thought....
Check with your local art supply store
An artist's portfolio works great for things like this. They come in all sizes and are generally relatively flat. Link below is to a site that sells portfolios of different sizes. I don't know about their prices - you might do a little research.

buy that you just have to pop in the oven for a little while..I did this last year because I was so busy.. and it was a hit, we had prime rib and fixins, they also have turkey/ham dinners, it might save time and the dinner I got was tasty....(Obviously I am not much of a cook) Just a different idea.

I tried to donote to a local church's thrift store...
I had a small freezer and an entertainment center. When I went in the store and told the guy what I had he barked, "No!" he never even looked at me. When I went back out to my truck, a man asked if I was willing to sell him the freezer. He had been waiting for them to take it in the store to buy it, so I just "donated" it to him, but I could not believe how rude the person inside was. I would have been happy with a smile and a "No thank you."
A local mastectomy center might fit you for bras, too. Or a high-end lingerie store. nm

Blockbuster
They have different levels of membership. Also, I love that I can return the movies right to the Blockbuster down the street, and get a free movie rental when I do.

I give the used movie to daughter, then she can get a movie she likes for free from the Blockbuster store.

We paid capital gains on a rental house sm
that we sold about 8 years ago. It was approximately 23% (I think-it may have been about 20%). From the way I understood it, capital gains was based on our adjusted gross income and you pay the taxes on the profits not the whole amount. When we got paid for the house, I kept back 30% and it covered the fed and state taxes. We wound up paying about 5,000.00 between the two. Hope this helps. I'm not an accountant either, just know from experience. The IRS website has really good information there.
As a landlord with rental property, tenants seem to "pay partial rent" or not pay at all sm
beginning around Nov or December (the holidays). Were they both laid off? Is there no income coming in? Even though I don't know the situation, I can guarantee you that the money was spent elsewhere and now they are paying the price. I'm sorry to have to say this.
My husband and I worked with a family on getting caught up and they were 2 months behind plus late fees (about 1,800) and it was right about this time last year. They had a great Christmas though!
I don't have an answer for you. I don't know if there is anyone who can help someone like your friend or my ex-tenants. Rent should be people's #1 priority and sadly, a lot of the times it just isn't.

I tease my boyfriend about doing that if we ever get married. We are middle aged (supposing we will live to be really old) :) and he has never been married!

my hubby yawned during the ceremony. I didn't realize it because he "bit into it" but one of his groomsmen saw his jaws tighten and could tell what was happening. He did have a bachelor party that got a little wild, but my DH doesn't drink so it was not like he was out partying all night long. It has been over 20 years and I still tease him about it.

I loved The Illusionist, I would recommend it highly. I am going to try to watch Marie Antoinette this weekend, but not sure if I'm going to get around to it. Flyboys was also good as was The Guardian. I wouldn't categorize them as chick flicks per se but I liked them.

Is Wii Fit. It's the first video game I've ever bought in my life. It has yoga, some strength exercises, aerobics (running in place). I live in the South, and it's nice to exercise in my house with the air conditioning.
100% ban on all video games
For the last five years there has been a ban of video games in my house. My husband and my son were turning into flippin zombies. We started going on hikes in the mountains instead and now participate in extracurricular activities at the high school and volunteer.
TV has not been banned yet, as I think there would be a mutiny....

I said it before, a picture is worth a thousand words. You video tape him on one of his rampages and the Sheriff will definitely believe you and get off his fat butt and arrest him. Obviously try to do this w/o him knowing you are doing it....candid camera style.

I was thinking of a video monitoring
where you could perhaps view on your t.v. or something. Don't know how your mom would feel about her activities being viewed constantly, but it offers video and audio, and they have other products available. I don't see what the big deal is with the video. It showed him hanging for a few seconds and really was all over the place.

That shows how crooks can use a method called bumping to open DEADBOLT doorlocks in a couple of seconds.
The crook has some sort of key made, they stick it in your lock, rap on it with a screwdriver or small mallet, and bingo, it's like the key was made for your lock!

I have the 60 GB iPod video and love it
and have tons of albums and videos on it. Some of my favorite ones are Matchbox 20, Third Eye Blind, Oasis, Coldplay, Goo Goo Dolls, The Fray, Dave Matthews, etc. I always take my iPod to the gym with me. I sometimes listen to my it in my car also since the stereo in my car has a plug in for iPods and other MP3 players, but I usually just listen to my XM satellite radio while on the road. I love their new Starbucks channel on the XM cafe.
