Georgia schools also socially pass....sm

I had a prior foster child that came to me in the 5th grade that tested to be on the 1st grade reading level and 2nd grade math level. Her prior schools for the past 2 years that she was in foster care before moving to me had report cards for her with A's and B's all over the place. The school here refused to hold her back because she was held back on the 1st grade due to poor attendance while living with her birth parents, even though emotionally she was 8 in a 12-year-old body.
Fortunately for this child while she was living with me we figured out her educational deficits and that she had learning disabilities. We moved her to a specialized group home that has worked with her extensively and she's now in 8th grade and back in mainstream classes. She's making C's and earning them - not having them given to her. I shudder to think what would have happened to her if she hadn't come to my home to figure out she had more problems than the system realized and helped her get the help she needed - she probably would have ended up as a statistic. She still is emotionally behind her peers but hopefully one day will catch up on that aspect. Oh yes, she also went to summer school here and that was 2 weeks - what a joke. All they did was play games half the day outside and did just a little work on reading and math.

Some Georgia schools have dress codes...sm
and they work with school uniform vendors to provide them really cheaply, around $7-8 for each shirt and each pair of pants or shirt.
My daughter goes to a school with a dress code and it's nice not having the "what is OK to wear to school" discussions in the morning. It also eliminates kids who come from poor families feeling inferior to other kids over their clothes.
you have to realize too that a private schools also get those who are kicked out of public schools t
have a friend who is a teacher at private school who passed along this info so don't flame me,LOL.
I never said anything about socially inacceptable, I said
I think (my opinion only) that is deprives them of much-needed social interaction. I know children who are home-schooled and they are well-behaved children which would make them very socially acceptable. Please do not put words in my mouth. I only stated my opinion and don't expect everyone to agree with it, but please don't change the meaning of what I said.
This, too, shall pass. I went thru the same
issues with my now 18 year old when she was 15. I was not pleased, but did my best not to show it - it wasn't easy, mind you. I see that Ellen DeGeneres ad where the raccoon did her eye makeup and shudder - that's what my daughter's eyes looked like! But I tried not to make a fuss - I only drew the line at the jewelry that looked sadistic/maso, and refused to let her wear that, really explaining to her what it meant and stood for. She got the picture. Any how, at 18 she has forgotten all about her "dark days", and looks normal - whatever that is...but no more goth!
Thank you, I will pass it on. nm
!
Do you actually pass out?
I had it happen a few times, but only actually passed out cold twice. It has become less frequent over the years. My episodes usually had hot/cold triggers. First time I had a bad sunburn and was putting ice on my face and ended up on the floor. Second time I got out of a hot shower into a cold bathroom (pregnant at the time) but didn't actually pass out completely. Third time I was feeling sick anyway, laying down covered up with a blanket, then got up and got something cold to drink and dropped like a rock.
I think staying hydrated is a big key. However, if this is becoming more frequent, it's time to go back to the doc and start the tests over. I myself would never want a tilt table test since I have motion sickness and know it would make me sick as a dog.
Funny! We have one that we pass around. It got
duct taped his head back on! LOL It's even funnier now!
Yes, a woman can pass it to a man, it is just like any other STD.
nm
Just got a chance to pass thru - let me
know how your appointment goes. I know exactly what you are talking about. I have to go to sleep on my side or I get ill. I am rather large in the upper department also - would love it if insurance would pay for a reduction. I haven't ever mentioned it to my doctor either - mainly because for each test that they decide they will run, I see another bill I would have to pay.
Can't you see it all coming to pass? sm
Everything we learned would happen is happening right now.
Just thought I pass it on...
Everyone concentrates on the problems we're having in this country lately: illegal immigration, hurricane recovery, alligators attacking people in Florida ... Not me. I concentrate on solutions for the problems. It's a win-win situation.
Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border.
Send the dirt to New Orleans to raise the level of the levies.
Put the Florida alligators in the moat along the Mexican border.
Any other problems you would like for me to solve today?
Think about this one:
1. Cows 2..The Constitution 3. The Ten Commandments
C O W S Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.
T H E C O N S T I T U T I O N They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .... Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.
T H E 1 0 C O M M A N D M E N T S The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment.
Here's some info you should pass on
And to all who read this. I received an email from my cousin (of course one of those forwarded emails so you don't know how true it is, but I could imagine it could happen). Anyway...the email said that when people come up to you to hand you a pamphlet or brochure do not accept it because what they are doing is putting some chemical on the paper that makes the recipient feel faint, disoriented, and then they come back and rob them. After reading that whether or not it's one of those "email hoaxes" my DH said that it certainly could happen expecially with all the criminals we have today. We don't open the door for anyone, even though they can look in the window next to the door and see me sitting here working. Anyway...I don't answer the door and tell them to leave the information at the door - then I let me DH get it :-) Now if its a little kid or whatever I of course will open the door, but here at our house we had a cop show up and wanted to know if some guy was here (don't know what that was about), also we kept getting a something in the mail from the police (who happen to have the same address as the water company and I thought it was my water bill) and I opened it and it was someone who had registered a weapon and they used our address. Also, we have a lot of "undesireable" little gang punks who are now hanging around with the degenerate bully teenage kid next door, a couple houses down some there was a vacant house and squatters came in on it, and the store around the corner has been robbed I think for the 3rd time in a couple years. So, this is a horrible horrible neighborhood. Oh, and twice now we've had unknown guys come up and knock on our door (and I mean not the kind of people I would want to talk to). We want to move, but right now we are "just making it" and most all other places around here are more expensive unless we go to an even more undesireable neighborhood. So we just hope things go okay. But it doesn't help when the PD applies for more funding to add another patrol officer for the town (we now have only 2 or 3 in a town of about 50,000), and they ask for more money to keep the jail open and fire department and it's all voted down. What in the world is up with this town??? Well they'll sure be screaming and yelling when they need someone and nobody comes because they didn't want to pay any more taxes to have a little more safety. (BTW - we sleep with a bunch of tools - you know things with sharp edges that can be thrown if needed, in our bedroom just in case).
Anyway, please pass on to your mom that she should never open the door for anyone she doesn't know (I'm sure you already have) and tell her never accept any paper of any sort. If it's legite they will leave it and she can pick it up later long after they are gone.
I pass on chitlings, no, thanks.....nm

georgia
I lived in GA for 1 year last year but didn't have quite that bad weather. I know the lightening can be pretty intense. I hope it misses you. I say a prayer :)
As far as I know, Georgia
is still considered southern. My hubby born and raised in Georgia also. Let me know if I am wrong here.
Unfortunately, here in Georgia, it is
my understanding that there is not any law stating at which age a child may be left home alone. When I called DFACS several years ago regarding this, I was told the above and that DFACS has guidelines that they use (which were ridiculous -- I believe it was 8 years old okay to stay by themselves and maybe a couple of years older to be left in charge of a sibling/younger child). I believe this was about 6 years ago.
Anyway, because these are DFACS guidelines only and are not the law, there is no way to enforce this and unless a tragedy occurs there is no punishment.
Yep here too...Georgia
Same as Georgia, still does not mean
the mothers have to accept crumbs. I hope they get some good lawyers but even just the threats of what can be taken away wakes guys up sometimes.
GEORGIA!!!
I would move to Alabama, because of the no work tax, but in most places sales tax is 10%.
that is - half the girls - also if they do pass this - sm
how long do they "have" to watch it, 1 minute, 5 minutes, what, a half hour until they change their mind? Once they get this passed, believe me, they will try something else, give an inch, they take a yard.
I know all about that bill they tried to pass and failed so far,
I am against it being mandatory, and yes, I am part of the breed/show world, and did mixed breed rescue, volunteered in a few shows for a long time and it is heart breaking. But, in all the years I volunteered in them, the pedigree cat was rare, I only saw a persian once and a siamese once. I am not out West though. Mandatory spay and neuter will only create a black market. In CA there is already a problem with smuggling puppies in from Mexico, imagine how much worse that will get. And yes, breeders can get a license, but not everyone will get one and unfortunately, it will knock out the good ones, the bad ones always find a way around things. The better answer would be low cost spay and neuter programs so that it is more affordable. I don't know costs in CA, but here in PA they are getting very high. My vet loves me, I spend a fortune there and if somebody gets sick on the weekend, I don't think twice about going to the emergency vet and paying extra costs. I do recall, however, in the pounds I volunteered in that there more pedigree dogs, particularly large ones. In these cases, it seemed people did not do their homework and did not realize the puppy would get so big.
As for pet stores, I would never buy a pet in one of those, nor would I ever let one of my kittens go to them. In fact, my breeding is very small scale, I am most definitely not making money on it, and I am very picky about who let have one of my furry kids, and I do have high quality within my chosen breed, good health and show.
Good luck in CA, but I don't think that bill will ever get passed. It is really not cost effective to the state and like you said, how could they enforce it? People find a way, sad, but true.
I like this idea! Will pass on to a friend who
s
DOH! I meant they would NOT pass judgement
...sorry. P.S. Just ignore those who are responding that you are selfish. They have not walked in your shoes!
Thanks Suzanne . I'm sure it'll pass
eventually, just feeling down lately.
is a pass at your 18 year old sister
child molestation. I think that is an insult to the real survivors of molestation.
Here in middle Georgia, we are just
happy not to have the 100s. Reasonable now at 76 today. Gosh, fall… oh, yes, that is when the leaves all fall.
I don't think it is a requirement in Georgia -
However, my concern is that this is an effective preventative measure and people are not getting it for their daughters. You do not have to be promiscious to get it and believe me it causes lots of problems later.
I only had sex with one man - my husband - before being diagnosed with HPV - and he had only had sex with one other person.
I now have constant female problems and the doctor says it is because of the HPV. My paps come back bad and I have to have the LEEP procedures done routinely, or have biopsies done, I have to have paps every 3 months instead of yearly. I have constant bacterial infections and vaginitis.
Goodness knows, I wish I had had the option of having a vaccine to prevent this stuff before I became sexually active with my husband.
Can women pass it to men? Sorry if that sounds dumb.

No--- bodies pass out of rigor mortis - sm
after so many hours and become normal/rubbery again so to speak, so very possible for his body to bounce at that point. Plus the skin color would change, he is dead, and most likely become darker especially with all the work they did on him. No hoax, he is dead.
Very happy news, Georgia.

Georgia has a no public smoking law...sm
and it's great going to restaurants, stores, etc without smelling cigarettes. Restaurants can only allow smokers if they don't admit anyone under age 18 and they have to have a ventilation system that meets a certain strict criteria with the state.
Look up sometime about Alday family in Georgia
Everyone in the town knew each other, church going, great little town, safe, so everyone thought. The family slaughtered - oh not by one of their own - by outsider. Farm family. Raped the wife (who was daughter, DIL of the others, all related) and killed oh, I think 6 or 7 in the family. Got in because all the doors unlocked. This was not this year nor the last 10- more like 20 years or so ago. I remember as such a savage thing. They did live in a nice little town where everyone knew everyone.
LOL! If you don't like the weather in Georgia, just hang around SM
a while and it will change soon!
Assisted suicide here in Georgia
A man here in Georgia went a website called Final Exit as he had decided to end his life, had been suffering with cancer of the head, mouth, etc. Now the people who helped him have been arrested for participating. Apparently they use helium and the person or else the people around him then use a bag over his head and from what I am hearing they hold his hands because once he makes his decision and says yes, no turning back. There are some states that allow assisted suicide, Montana and Washington being a couple of them. What I want to know, I type and you probably have also of people at end of life being given morphine in the hospital to "make them comfortable" when actually all it does is speed up their demise by slowing down respiration, etc. I guess the medical profession is able to do their own "Final Exit" scenes but no one else?
Living in Georgia and loving it
Never have felt the need to move because I got frustrated, never. Moved from another state over 30 years ago and love where I live. I really hate when I see an overall blanket statement about a state being backwards. I find myself going on the offense when a person attacks a state in general when they perhaps are unhappy just for the person they are. I am sure a person can find fault with any place they might be brought up or choose to live but my community is very progressive, upscale and as much as I love to travel, hope this can be my home from here on. People make their own happiness and if you are unhappy either in your personal or business life, then perhaps you are just soured on the world, not where you live. If a person wants to move from my state, hey, just more room for the people who can enjoy their life here.
Any Habersham County, Georgia residents out there? sm
if so please e-mail me. We're considering moving there and I'd love to meet someone in that area. Thanks!
Georgia, 30 miles south of Atlanta
lots do here, just where you live I suppose. I for 1 am glad to take hubs last name, no problem with that for me.
In Georgia, we receive permission slips also.
I don't think they should have to check every child's record before administering any MEDICAL testing, but I definitely think permission slips are in order.
Live in Georgia and highly support it
If this had been the case with octomom the people would never have to support her litter.
Colorado is to snow storms as Georgia is to tornados
Oh my gosh, thought we could have a full week without a warning but here it goes again. A storm brewing out in Mississippi and might be coming this way. Home alone again with my animals. Anyone else out there with bad weather lately?
People hauled into court today here in Georgia for
watering their lawns. One guy had bench warrant put against him when he did not show up in court. We are in such a drought, first offense is $100.00 plus but the second one is $400.00 plus and after that I think your water is turned off. I wish Texas could share some with us. They don’t need and we do.

Went to the schools to eat
Several times. Nothing like we had when we were kids. There was No quality to their meals. I was not pleased.
Same at our schools
The kids can have them in school, but they have to be turned off and kept in their lockers. They found that the students were actually using the cell phones to cheat on tests. My daughter is probably one of the only teens that doesn't have a cell phone. If she goes out and absolutely needs one then she borrows either mine or her father's. We never had cell phones. I think most of us turned out okay.
Schools
Wondering if you can help me with this.
Due to many problems within the school district I have decided to start a special parents group to address the situations that were not handled properly, teacher/student relationships, and on.
What questions/and concerns would you ask of your school if you were not satisfied with them,;
Thanks for your time.
hydrogen peroxide tips - received via email and thought i'd pass on. see inside.
* This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I want to share it with you. She was over recently for coffee and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my toilet and counter tops. This is what she told me.. I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. What does bleach cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide. Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor's office? NO!!! Why? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home. They are wiser and know better! * ** *Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine, Folks! And it was used to kill our troops. Peroxide was invented during WWI in the 20's. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals. Please think about this. * ** *1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash. * ** *2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs. * ** *3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters. * ** *4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria. * ** *5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry. * ** *6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide. * ** *7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will. * ** ** ** *8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue. * ** ** ** *9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly. * ** *10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change. * ** *11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections. * ** *12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary. * ** *13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this. * ** ** ** *I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner! * ** *This information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from it, too. Pass it on! *
Young lady killed here in Georgia, Appalachian trail hiker
and she was enjoying going out about 2 years ago, killed on a mountain here by man posing as hiker. She was a young, vibrant lady in her 20s, he was in his 60s. I think I am getting this right when I say he used her police baton she carried for protection, wrestled it away from her and killed her with it. Is not the trail you hike on known for lot of crimes? This murder happened on that same trail where you give rides to strangers. This man was well known to other hikers there as he hung out on the trail lots of times.
Nah, and I NEVER pass on those round robin letters for good luck, money, love, etc. if passed on in

private schools
No, it's not fair that you should have to pay for a private school, but that might just be what is best for your daughter. We decided 16 years ago that our 3 children would not go to public schools. We have spent a fortune over the years, but I do not regret it for an instant.
but he did not go to Korean schools
the other poster may be correct about what they teach in Korea, but that was not the cause of this person going ballistic. and it should not be made to seem like it was.
The schools have enough to take care of
besides crap like this. Kids, source, name calling SO? You are grown, supposed to know better, do not stoop to their level by retaliation, nothing gained as hubs would say.
