Frugality

I am trying to be frugal especially the way the economy is currently.  Here is my dilemma.  We own our own business and I transcribe on the side.  My husband's schedule is very chaotic.  He is definitely a workaholic.  Our schedules do not coincide at all.  He works during the day (7 am or earlier to around 3:30 p.m.), then he takes a nap until around 9 pm and works until 3 am, and then starts over again.  Always busy.  I work nights transcribing but run the office end of the business during the day.

My husband hardly ever eats at home.  He eats breakfast out because when he gets up I am still sleeping.  He usually eats lunch out because when he is ready for lunch (which I never know what that is going to be), and he usually grabs a sandwich late night or early morning before he comes home.

I feel horrible that I hardly ever cook, but when I do cook it ends up getting thrown away because my husband will come home and say, "I already ate."  Then, if I do not make anything because I think he has already had lunch at a restaurant, he comes home starved, and mad because there is nothing to eat that I can fix quickly because he is starving, but a lunchmeat sandwich and chips

This is driving me crazy.  It seems so wasteful to be eating out all the time, and then throwing away food I do buy and cook because there is no one to eat it before it spoils.

Any suggestions?  I guess what I am looking for are some lunch/dinners that do not take much time to cook, that I can throw together quickly if my husband comes in starving and wants to eat NOW!!!

As far as breakfast, he will probably eat out at a restaurant anyway.  He has made morning friends with a bunch of elderly gentleman at the restaurant where he eats breakfast.

Another issue may be that I just am not a good at planning ahead or something.  All I know is he spends about $20/$25 a day eating out, and I end up throwing about approximately $50 of food every two weeks, because it spoils.

My pet peeve is wastefulness and I am feeling very wasteful.
