Sounds yummy!

I've always wanted to make one of those cakes with the blueberry/strawberry flag design on top. Maybe I'll plan for a party next year. :)

Fruit Kabobs?

I have to send in fruit for my son't party at school tomorrow.  I thought fruit kabobs would be a cute way to do this.  Can I make them tonight and still be good tomorrow afternoon?  I only ask because he wants apples and bananas to be included and they usually go brown on me when exposed to air.  any suggestions?

Fruit kabobs? Do you cook them?
Sorry to show my ignorance, but the idea sounds really good. I never thought of fruit kabobs. Do you BBQ, broil or bake? Which fruit combinations are best?

Also, I would add something fun for kids if you have them (and adult easy) by making cupcakes in flat-bottomed ice cream cones with icing decoration. Kids love them. I would also add a relish dish and probably a veggie platter.
I lightly grill my fruit kabobs...
Simple combinations like strawberry-kiwi, strawberry-banana or strawberry-pineapple are outstanding grilled desserts. Also, mango is really good with any of these combos. Grill the kabobs over medium hot coals for 6 to 8 minutes, turning a few times. They're great as is, right off the grill, with nothing else added. But I find them best with added sweetness, like a very light sprinkling of a sugar-cinnamon mixture or brush on some white grape juice or a very light sugar or honey syrup. Hope this helps..

How about a nice fruit salad...

berry or fruit juice for diets sm
Heard the "free trial offer" for the acai berry (sp) on line is a farce because once you give all the info and agree to the low shipping charge, you are locked into an automatic charge to your credit card of 80 plus dollars. If you try to contact them, the phone number provided is non-operational and you are stuck. Is this berry product available in retail stores? Also, anyone find any pomegrant (sp) juice helpful and who has the best price on it? Need to lose some "winter weight" and it's not even winter yet. Kind of hard when you sit all day - I know, I know - diet and exercise! Told by my cardiologist to walk but recuperating from surgery, so not that active. TIA
What has helped my pain are fruit and vegetable capsules. sm
I have been taking them for 8 years or so ever since my pain started to get so bad I couldn't sleep (I know you know what I mean).  I was working for a certified nutritionalist/chiropractor at the time. They have helped me so much that I continue to take them after all these years because I'm afraid not to.  I did stop for a little while and tried another product (10 months or so) but the pain came back.  Email me if you want to know more info.  I am not a distributor so I'm not trying to sell them or anything, it is just what has been working for me.
Plants will attract gnats, as will ripe fruit.
If the gnats are congregated in one area, sticky bug cards will help catch them for you. Or you can kill them by spraying them directly with an ammonia-based cleaner like many glass-cleaning formulas.
My son loves fruit juice with vanilla yogurt mixed in, over ice.

How about some kabobs?
I cut up chunks of chicken breast and marinate in any kind of Italian dressing or citrus-type chicken marinade overnight. Then sprinkle with McCormack Montreal chicken seasoning/spice (in the spice aisle). Put them on wooden skewer/sticks (found in grocery stores by pots/pans/utensils) with some cut up chunks of red onion, green, red or yellow pepper, cherry tomatoes, alternating pieces on the sticks. Grill on the George Foreman (lightly oiled) until browned.

I also grill chicken sprinkled with lots of cajun spice (also found in the spice aisle) cut in strips and throw on a Caesar salad.

YUM!
Consider using fresh herbs. So fresh
and spring-y. :oD

I love fresh sage with pork. I especially love pork chops. Great, now I'm hungry.
Actually, I never even thought about using fresh
chicken (the girl who gave me the recipe said to use the canned chicken undrained). It probably would be even better with the fresh chicken and some of the broth. I was just passing on what was a very good recipe. Anyway, have a good day!
Then you might want to try some fresh stuff.
I just made a turkey breast today that was very tasty. In a little olive oil, salt, and pepper, I chopped up some fresh rosemary, thyme, sage, and a couple cloves of crushed garlic. Then, I just rubbed that onto the (skinless) turkey breast.

I oven-roasted that with some vegetables, but you could put that on chicken breasts and bake or grill them. They'd be good either way.

Good luck!
Thank you for the breath of fresh air
and the very nice comment to both of us. We really have hurt no one and have found someone who mutually shares the love of animals, as I am sure so many of you do. I spoke just last week to a lovely MT who has a little Pekinese named Sophie. We had a great conversation about that. With an elderly very ill parent this board has given me something to focus on and relieve some fear and tension. Thanks again. You comments are truly appreciated.
fresh towels
I use Gain detergent, the regular kind. Has a really nice smell. We live by ocean so our towels get musty smelling quite easily.
used to eat fresh dough but...sm
Was warned not to do this or let kids do it if the dough contained egg, very bad to eat raw, so cut out the licking of the spoon. I know most cookies don't have egg, but we were addicted to all batter. No longer lick the spoons when done.
Fresh coconut!

I had a hankerin for a coconut a few weeks ago so I bought one.  Hadn't had one since I was a kid.  I drilled the holes in the 'eyes' and drank the coconut juice inside.  Then I pryed out the meat, meticulously peeled the brown junk off it with a knife, and ate a whole bunch.  Okay, my husband and I both at the whole thing in one sitting it was sooooo yummy!  The next day...well, all I'm gonna say is that I am thankful we have 2 bathrooms and were fully stocked on TP.  We weren't sick mind you, just incredibly cleaned out.  The coconut juice, which only I drank, acted like a diuretic and I think I peed every hour on the hour--and incredible amount each time at that.

I have chronic constipation too because I hate to drink water.  I tend to stay borderline dehydrated myself.  The chemical laxatives just plain wreak havoc and are very painful and inconvenient to put it nicely.  I'd go with better diet, water, and fruits before I'd go with pills if at all possible.  Hope she feels better soon!

me too! breath of fresh air.
except for maybe the typo-gestapo. but even that has faded.

BREATH OF FRESH AIR
I think MTStars is Breath of Fresh Air after change in administration. This thread is staying on board is proof of it. MTStars was personal forum rather public board beofre.

I was sick of HER, deleting every other thread and banning those who expressed their opinions that wasn't acceptable for her.

Need help regarding Potato salad?...sm

I have a problem.  When my children were young they never liked potato salad.  They always asked if I would make macaroni salad all the time with holiday meals.  Today my son who is a teenager asked me if I would make potato salad to go with the turkey and all the other holiday goodies.  He said he does like potato salad now. I have no clue how to make this as I have never made it.  Any recipes/help would be so greatly appreciated.

Chicken Salad

I agree with keeping it simple . . . just wanted to add that I love to use leftover grilled chicken, and don't forget the garlic.  Love the garlic!

Speaking of Salad...

what kind of lettuce/other green leafy stuff do you like when you order/make a salad?

A couple of times I've gone in restaurants and they have brought me a salad that looked like they went out back and pulled weeds. Now, I love veggies, but that's some scary stuff. I'm simple..I just want iceberg lettuce!...then I can add other goodies that I can identify.

Fresh lettuce from the garden!
Luv that stuff.  Your sammy sounds delicious!  Yummmm...  TX for sharing...
*hugs* I'm so sorry. I know the pain as it is still very fresh for me. SM

He had such loving parents these last months of his life and you did everything you could for him.

At the cremation place they gave me this card.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge.  When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.  All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.  Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in or dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing, they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.  They all run and play together but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  Their bright eyes are intent.  Their eager body quivers.  Suddenly they begin to run from the group, flying over the green grass, their legs carrying them faster and faster.  You have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Not sure about that, but I thought fresh carrots are usually used. What about
salt in canned foods? That would be my concern with taste, etc.
after BR there are many Fresh Start programs.

Don't forget the fresh stuff!

All suggestions posted area great.  Don't forget to add in fresh stuff.  A head of iceberg lettuce is pretty inexpensive most days, especially with summer coming.  How about getting seeds and planting a garden?  You can start the seeds indoors right about now and they'll be ready to go outside in a month or so.

This is a great site, too.

Lots of really good frugal ideas.

I just bought a bunch of stuff to make breakfast burritos with - which is one of my favorite food groups.  24 eggs, a large package of Jimmy Dean sausage, 2 bags of cheese, 1 large tub of red chile, 30 tortillas and 5 pounds of potatoes only cost $22 and change.  I figure I'll get at least 25, possibly 30 burritos out of it.  I'm assembling them and sticking them in the freezer as one of my projects today.

recipe for chicken salad
Anyone have a good one?
After I cut up a salad with my fork and knife
I lick the dressing off my knife (even in restaurants). I can't stop myself. Life my BFF says, at least you have admitted you have a problem, that is the first step.
My grandmas jello salad
It's wonderful and I never had a thanksgiving without it (well I did have a few but I missed it). It's so so easy

1 - 8 oz package jello. (I always use black cherry, mom always used lemon).
1 - 8 oz. pckg cream cheese.
1 large can crushed pineapple.
Crushed walnuts - optional

Dissolve jello in 2 cups boiling water and add cream cheese and mix til cream cheese is blended in and no lumps. Add the can of crushed pineapple with the juice (this makes up for those 2 cups of cold water you would normally add to the jello). Throw in some chopped walnuts if you like and let set overnight.
Waldorf Salad - no nuts! nm
x
My mother's "tropical salad"
I still love this.
1 can pineapple chunks -reserve juice.
1 can mandarin oranges - reserve juice.
16 oz sour cream (now I use nonfat)
1 cup shredded coconut (the kind in a bag).
1/2 bag of miniature marshmallows.

Mix everything & refrigerate it overnight. If it has gotten dry (the marshmallows absorb moisture) add some of the reserved juice. Before serving add 1 or 2 sliced bananas.

My sisters & I used to fight over this.
Just brewed me a fresh pot of Kona coffee.
I figured I needed a little stimulation to keep me awake. Work is slow today, but can not afford any more time off.
Fresh direct dilivers to most of the boroughs. sm
Are you in NYC or upstate.  Because Fresh Direct deliver almost everywhere in NYC.  Not much upstate, though.
there is also a jello with fresh cranberries receipe
my mom and aunt use to make.  can add walnuts or leave it plain.
Sometimes I chop a little onion and add to the salmon with fresh

parsley.  Sometimes I will add just a touch of mustard.  Any way I make them they seem to turn out good.  I usually just make them with egg white instead of the whole egg, but sometimes will add the egg yolk as well.  I love salmon and make it frequently for myself as well.
