The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing: They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly looks up! The nose twitches. The ears are up. The eyes are staring. And this one suddenly runs from the group. You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her into your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

Mean moms/childhood
I often questioned God why after 14 years of trying to get pregnant, I never did, then my uterus prolapsed and I had to have a hysterectomy.
I look at my childhood and it had a lot of faults. My mom was so devastated by her own bad childhood, that she really didn't know how to be a parent. My dad, who knew how to be a good parent, was often too busy having to take care of her after psychiatrists had her so drugged she often didn't get out of bed for days.
My mom is about to turn 65 and over the last 8 months or so, both my sister and I have gotten hate E-mail from her for no apparent reason other than she needs to pick a fight, so she starts pointing out our character defects. I originally refuted the points and it just escalated. I didn't even respond to her last hate E-mail. I'm wondering if something is going wrong with her brain (other than the mental illness she already has) from years of drinking or all of the prescription meds she's been hooked on (pain meds, amphetamines, sleeping pills, benzos.
Anyway, don't get me wrong, we did some crazy stuff when I was a kid. She even took my sister and me to a motel with a pool and we checked in overnight. I knew she didn't tell my dad where she was going and when she told us it was bedtime, I tried in vain to stay awake so she'd fall asleep and I could call my dad and let him know where we were. I was probably around 8 or 9 at the time. I felt guilt over that for years because I did fall asleep and never called him (and I wonder why I have insomnia now). He was crying when she brought us home late the next day.
Mom wasn't all bad times. When she was spiritually fit, we had a lot of fun. And I can recognize, as an adult, that she has a personality disorder and I just don't feed it. I love her and always will. I just have to hope I catch her on better days.
I guess what I'm saying is I hope that kid doesn't grow up with memories like mine. I hope the mother was just having a really bad day with a kid who had been acting up all day. And I hope she told him she was sorry and hugged him.
Anyway, I've come to realize that I never really had a good, consistent example of a parent. What kind of parent would I have made? My husband was gone a lot early on. He could be gone 6 months, come back for 10 days and then leave again for another 2 months. Many military wives have dealt with this and had children. Looking back (hindsight is always 20/20), I'm not sure I had what it took to be a good parent so it's best that I never did get pregnant. At least thinking about it that way helps take away some of the emptiness.
My faith is now in God, that He has some other purpose for me than being a parent to human children. I work with a pug rescue and maybe that's what I was meant to do. I believe He has not revealed his full purpose for me, but gives me a little more each time.
Anyway, sorry for rambling so much. If you've stuck with me this long, thanks. It's been a rough, emotional week. Hope yours is going better. :-)
((((((Hugs)))))) to everyone who needs one.
God bless.
No wait, wait... 'mere Mom, me and my friends
can all drink it too. Come on guyz... my Mom won't mind, have a drink and have some fun. Bring the chocolate syrup! Doesn't she have big nipples. "My Dad likes 'em too and my baseball coach!
We do owe our children a decent childhood (sm)
I know you say it didn't matter to you - apparently your mom did a good job raising you on her own. Maybe you weren't that close to your dad. But the best decision is always based on weighing out a combination of circumstances - it is not the same for every person. While yours worked out well for you and your mother and brother, it doesn't always go that way for everyone. If it was that easy, no one would complain, we would just make quick selfish decisions and not worry about anyone else. The fact that some of us are on here complaining is a reflection of us caring about other people, not just ourselves. It means we are thinking things through and taking time to decide, hearing viewpoints of those who have experienced it for themselves and those who have not. Sometimes you don't know which is worse, to stay or to go - you may be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, so staying isn't necessarily accepting second best. It's a huge, big, important decision and one not to be taken lightly. Not everyone ends up as fortunate as you have and we all know it.
My husband had a childhood no child should ever have to
endure. Both of his parents were alcoholics. He was passed from relative to relative, whoever happened to take pity on him at any given time and provide him with a place to live. When he did live with his parents, he was physically and verbally abused. Believe me, his past is very painful and I'm quite sure it's not a place he likes to revisit. He didn't finish high school. He dropped out of trade school. However, he shared all of that with me because not only am I his wife, I'm his friend. I, on the other hand, was raised in a very loving, very happy, Christian home. My father was a minister and for most of my growing up years my mother was a stay-at-home mom. I can't even begin to imagine a childhood like he had. There a lot of people who don't know all about his past, but I'm glad he trusted in me enough to want to share it with me. Once again, I'm glad my husband loved me and trusted me enough to share details (no matter how ashamed he was of them) of his childhood with me. JMO
Positive sayings from your childhood
What sayings do you remember your parents telling you?
Do unto others as you would have them do onto you.
What are your favorite childhood memories
Watching the kids in the neighborhood play takes me back to my childhood days. Lots of people say they would never go through childhood ever again but I would in a heartbeat. I'd like to hear what were the best things for you when you were growing up. Mine were
1. Playing all day and night on weekends and after school. My only concern was getting in the house before dark (or by supper time).
2. Grandma & Grandpa lived up the road so spent lots of time with them (they taught us how to do the polka to Lawrence Welk).
3. Didn't have to do any cooking. Everything was prepared for me. And, no laundry. Always had clean clothes hanging in the closet.
4. School. Learning, learning, learning and being with friends.
5. Being free enough to have imaginary friends and nobody would tell me I was losing my mind (or were they really imaginary????)
6. Girl Scouts (need I say any more).
7. The idea that I could be a ballerina, movie star, singer, or anything I wanted to be when I grew up and my parents entertained that as though it could become a real possibility for me.
8. Mom and dad tucking me into bed and kissing me good night.
9. Thanksgiving with the whole family over.
10. Best Christmas gifts were Lite Bright, Easy Bake Oven, Feely-meely, Incredible Edibles, Frisbee, Slinky, dolls, and anything that was not mechanical or electrical.
11. Ice skating, sledding parties, and slumbar parties.
12. Being innocent enough to not know about all the kooks and problems in the world while I had the protection of mom and dad always.
Well I could think of a ton of things, but those were the best times of my life. What are yours?
While I love all these old classics from my childhood...sm
As an adult, I love the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas albums. There's just something about them that makes my heart sing. I like the first one the best.
And my husband and I have a new favorite:
The Jethro Tull Christmas Album.
I would recommend it to everyone. We love all the songs on it, and you have to listen carefully to the words, as well as the melody. Well worth the time to enjoy new favorite.

please try not to make assumptions about my childhood...
it was not bad, by any means, but certainly not "storybook." I am sorry for not joining into the consensus that everyone else expects. I thought that perhaps she might like to hear something from both sides of the coin, but by all means, if all she wants to hear is that she should cut him off completely, I will stop posting and, in the future, please let me know which opinion is acceptable.
I had a good childhood...just pointing out
that those who are hardest on the younger generation are often those that produced it.
Seems like my childhood/teenage years went with them...
who didn't walk into a young man's bedroom and see Farrah's poster -- wish you could be her, and of course, Thriller playing in the background at my first booze party. Blackberry brandy slushes...we were SO COOL...
Goodness, sometimes this adult stuff seems so trivial.
What is your favorite childhood memory?...mine is catching..
lightening bugs in an old mayo jar at an aunt's cottage on the Beaver River in western PA while the adults played cards in the screened in porch late into the night. What I wouldn't give to go back in time just once more!
Joys of childhood (caution: Mushy mom note) (sm)
Sometimes I am reminded why I do this job and it makes me love it all over again! I have to work, we need the income, no doubt about it. But right now I am looking outside at my children playing in the sprinkler (we have a well, so no water restrictions) with the dogs running and kitten running from the water and my kids with not a care in the world for the moment. Remember that feeling?? Now, even when I do venture out and play with them in the back of my mind I still have thoughts of what I "should" be doing - working more, cleaning, paying bills. Right now they get to just be kids. I love it!
I am so sorry for you and your kitty....

Glad to hear your cat is doing better! Something that may be helpful - I had a cat who made it to 17 yearsw of age. Three years before he passed, he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. It was difficult to get him to take the medication by mouth, so my vet suggested getting the med made up at a compounding pharmacy. The med was in the form of a paste that went behind his ear, and that ensured he got the med and we didn't have to hassel every day.

My cat died about 2 months ago. She stopped eating, drank a little bit, just stayed in the closet flat out. I couldn't afford to take her to the vet ($75.00 to euthanize) and I could tell that she wasn't in pain. She purred and let me pat her once in a while, but for the most part she stayed in the closet. She finally crawled to the back of the closet and died, I hope peacefully. I miss her. I want another cat (have had them all my life) but will not get one unless/until I have the money to properly take care of her when necessary. Last July she had several rotten teeth. The vet removed all but 5 of her teeth ($600.00) which I am still paying out. She was about 14-15, so up in years. I feel for you. My gut feeling, though, is to euthanize her before it's a weekend and you can't do anything and she's in pain. You're only prolonging the inevitable, IMO. Take care.
My kitty
Thank you to everyone who helped me through these last couple of weeks with my beautiful cat with bone cancer. We finally put her to sleep yesterday and it was very difficult for us but for her it was very quick and nontraumatic. The hardest part for her was the ride down to the vet's because she hates/hated that part. We then took her to the cremation place and should have her ashes back within a week. I didn't write until now because my heart is still very sad. I still haven't picked up her "things" around the house but will probably try to do that tonight or I may only be able to do a couple of things at a time, but that's okay.
I wrote about our milk prices here and it got me thinking how we probably won't have to buy as much milk now or the whole roasted chickens at Costco we used to buy for her. She would share some with us but it was really Mochi's chicken. She would come running in from outside whenever we cooked chicken too. Plus she would do what we called "praying to the refrigerator God" for something good to eat, she would sit in front of the refrigerator doors and just stare at it or sometimes rub up against it until we opened it up and found something in there for her.
We hadn't been able to let her outside for a month or so so that she could warm herself in the sun, so I think she is very happily sunning herself right now, in no pain.
So sorry about your kitty...
Sounds like you did all you could and provided a wonderful home.
My new kitty-cat's name is - sm
CHARLOTTE! :)
The weekend passed with less hissing & more acceptance by my other cat. I found that feeding them at the same time (one eats on the floor, the other up on the kitchen table) seems to make them relax around each other. Charlotte sleeps in bed with me with her head on my arm, and occasionally communicates with either a little 'silent meow' or else her signature 'quacking' sound. If I say 'quack-quack' to her, she says it back. ;)
Kitty
We have a laser pointer that we play with them with. They go crazy over it.
Also, I have a Roomba vacuum....oh my Lord...worth the money just for the comic relief they provide.
My kitty
I'm so sorry about your baby My cat was 16 years old and I believe she had a stroke. She has been pretty sick getting very skinny and one night she had her head tilted to the side and she couldn't move it. I don't know for sure but I think she suffered a stroke. Unfortuately, I didn't have any say in the matter. She passed away that night in March. It's still so hard for me to talk about. I miss her every day. I'll send prayers to you and your cat that she doesn't suffer and you'll know when it's time I'm sure.
kitty
If you feel that strongly you should go get him. You could take him to a shelter or just keep him. I'm sure you probably could find a home for him yourself if you needed to.
My kitty... see pic hopefully
This is Jory Jack Anthony SkippyJon Jones. :)
kitty uti
Hi - I totally understand your problem. My kitty has had severel UTIs and the doc put her on amoxicillin. It did work for her, but he also prescribed Urinary-SO, which is a special diet to keep the kidneys in good health. It's kind of pricey, but worth it so far. You can't buy it over the counter and have to buy it from your veterinarian. Hope this helps. As all us girls know, UTIs are VERY painful.
kitty ?
Always happy to see a cat lover....the ruler of my house, my 8yo female, occasionally does this. Don't know why. She has always used the litter box since day #1. My little boy is 4y/o and he will do the same thing, may be a copy cat, Boo, Hiss...anyway,I've never figured out why they do this. No pattern, not mad, no fights. Just happens occasionally. If you figure out why, other than just being cats and knowing they can do it, pls let me know.
Kitty and the Computer
My kitty likes to lay at my feet on my pedals. The long hair gets inside and causes them not to work properly. I am on my third pedal in 2+ years. You have to love being able to work from the comfort of your home though . . . with your cat by your side. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Just wish I could fall into a better work-at-home job.
Our little kitty just had to be euthanized....
because of liver and kidney failure. Please make sure if you have pets that you check regarding the recent recall of pet food. I had a couple of cans of Iams for him to try and I think that may have been what happened to him, will never know for sure. He was so sweet, a little orange and white guy, could always make me laugh chasing the laser pointer and flashlight, loved to chase the crawl on the bottom of the news programs on TV. Have to finish my day typing through tears....
I hope your kitty comes out better than ever!
My husband and I spend the moolah that we don't even have on our animals, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
Saw the kitty tonight!
We went to see the cat tonight. She is doing as well as can be expected. Very happy to see us. Apparently, she does not like the tech who is watching her (stranger to her) but started to purr as soon as I scratched behind her ears. Plus I brought her bed. I just hope we brought some comfort to her. It was very hard to leave though. Once again, you all are a great group and your kind words are much appreciated!
My male kitty
when he first came to live with us he was a mere 6 weeks old, and he would drink from the water bowl while "standing" on the edge of the bowl (front paws only) which looked silly but cute too! Then, he rapidly grew and grew and began to tip the water bowl over when doing that, so thankfully he stopped, but now I notice him sliding his paws (slowly) in a digging motion before drinking and can't help but notice how noisey he is when he drinks, he sounds like a dog lapping or a bird taking a bath! Boys!
Congratulations on your new kitty!
She sounds sweet! I swear by a liquid called Ration Plus. I first got it for my equines who had weight problems and gas. It's a prebiotic that works in their hindgut to regulate things...makes food stick to the ribs and helps with things like diarrhea and gas. I also give it to my dogs now and again and even my old senior cat. I put it right on their food and they gobble it right up.
HOWEVER, it does not state anywhere on their website or the label that it is appropriate for cats. I just wrote to them actually, just now, to find out if it was safe for felines. I know I've been feeding it to my cat now for over a year, one or two times a week as a top dressing on his food, and haven't had any problems and he looks great. I will let you know what they say about it.
Fantastic results and a bottle lasts a long, long time.
Here's their company website: http://www.rationplus.com/dog.html but I buy it from pet places because it's usually cheaper that way.
Your kitty is adorable!
I love hearing about everyone's cats and seeing their pics. I have a fully black 11 year old cat named Roscoe who is not too bright, shall we say. LOL. He chases his tail like a dog, and he's the biggest scardey cat around. I had a 16 year old cat that passed away in April and I miss her every day.
Here's the kitty I just adopted!
She's an 8 year old Exotic Shorthair Persian named Charlotte. Her little tongue sticks out all the time, 'cuz her face is so flat & her mouth is so small. She's tiny - and only weighs about 5-1/4 lbs. right now. Needs to gain a pound or two.) She's a total cuddle-bug!
(She just came out to say hi to me - she was annoyed with me earlier because I had to give her a pill. Not easy with that tiny little mouth!) Whenever I'm on the computer, she sits on the back of my chair and "helps".
my sister's kitty
had a stroke, he was a siamese and was 19 years old.. He unfortunately was not suffering; however, could not walk and had other multiple problems, thus she decided to mercifully put him to sleep. It was painful, but comes a time that you just know it is right... hope your kitty gets better....
What a talented kitty. Very
xx
Hmm, I wonder if the talented kitty above
xx
Bless you and your kitty
We lost our 18-yo girl two years ago to renal failure. She didn't meow a lot, but seemed to really enjoy being held more than she ever did when she was younger. Just spend quality time with her; you'll never regret it.
That must be a BIG kitty. Do you have a picture?

What the life this kitty cat has!
Oh and I love your "blanket" on your bed? Can I have that? It looks so luxurious especially this time of night after typing all day! What a life! I want to be a cat in my next life!
This is our cat! This is around the holidays, and my 7-year-old thought she'd jazz her up a bit, but I'm not so sure she is liking it. She does like having pictures taken though!
Hope your cat feels better soon; she is just beautiful! GET WELL SOON AIDA!
Thanks, what a nice kitty!

this kitty has a plastic bag and Q-tip
obsession. He eats plastic bags (I know it's not good for him). No matter how hard I try to keep them away from him, he finds them. It's like he has radar. Luckily we haven't had any clogs in his system from it. As for the Q-tips. He digs those out of the bathroom trash and carries them around (gross I know) and them ultimately drowns them in his water bowl. He's somewhat of a freak too.
Maybe try a different kitty litter
We took in a stray some years ago. We had to get her to use a litter box because we were moving. She hated the litter box, but then we changed from regular kitty litter to Arm & Hammer Super scoop (the kind where the urine and poopies ball up and easy to pick out). The litter is soft and she really loves it (I think maybe also it was soft like the outside dirt she used to go in). As a side note, it smells great and when you walk in the house you cannot tell we have a cat or litter box.
Kitty ringworm?
I need some advice from all the cat experts out there. A week ago a very nice black male kitty adopted us and since he was so mellow and got along with our dog, we decided to keep him. I took him to the vet for the first time last night to get checked out and get shots. The doctor noticed an area between his shoulder blades that was a little flaky and a little fur was starting to come off. She thought it might possibly be ringworm but couldn't tell yet. Honestly, I didn't even notice this (and I've been petting kitty a lot) until she pointed it out, and it really didn't start flaking until we got to the vet. Today in the same area he has a very small patch of hair loss and still has some flaking but I don't see a lesion like ringworm. Could it be that the lesion just hasn't shown up yet? If it is ringworm, what can I use on it without having to go back to the vet? I already spent a lot of money there yesterday and I do want to take care of kitty, but we do have limited funds. Oh yes, and to my surprise, this kitty who has been outdoors for who knows how long is very clean and actually does not have fleas! And yes, we did try to find his owner, but no one has called.
Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
Here's my kitty, Tweak
We call him Tweak because he always freaks out about everything!
This is when he was 8 weeks old
Here's my kitty girl!
This is my kitty, Charlotte. She's an 8 or 9 year old Exotic Shorthaired Persian.
Hay catlady - did you get the kitty???
Please update !
The update on kitty - sm
I have been over there at various times of the day and making sure I was there at the regular times I had seen him previously (sometimes 4 times in a single day!) and have not seen him again. I have waited in my car for him and gotten out to call *kitty.* I still have the carrier in my car and I am ready to bring him home. I have put out 2 cans of really yummy canned food over there for him, but they have gone untouched. I sure hope the little guy is okay. I will continue to watch out for him!
Your kitty is still very young
so try instilling manners into her with positive reinforcement. It really does work. When on the counters or table, tell her no firmly while taking her off. Do this in the same manner every time you catch her. They do get the idea eventually. Try not to yell and get upset as they sense this and then they become focused on your yelling. My cat does not climb on counters and if he needs to throw up, he will go into the kitchen instead of whereever he is. My vet told me about this as I was at my wits end with him. It took a while and a lot of patience. They do calm down so much as they get older. I agree with the watergun. Good luck and hang in there!
kitty's own tree..
I think that's a great idea!
Combined with the squirt gun when he tries messing with the big tree.. love this idea!
...and if he/she destroys the little tree, you can likely buy a replacement after the holidays for next to nothing!
Happy Holidays!
My kitty did this when we first got her. She is over a year old now... SM
When we first got her, she peed in my bed and actually peed on me one morning when she jumped up into the bed with me. She was laying on my legs and then all of sudden I felt a warm sensation! She would pee on bath towels in the bathroom that were left in the floor. I actually watched her pee on the empty bag of liter rather than in her litter box. When I took her to the vet for her shots and stuff, I asked my vet about her doing this. She checked her for a UTI which she did not have. Then the vet suggested I try a different litter because cats can be picky and if they don't like the smell or the feel of the litter, they won't use it.
Finally, she said if all health concerns and litter concerns were ruled out, then the kitty was just being hard headed and she advised that I put the cat in a room by herself with her litter box and food and nothing else as punishment every time she peed or pooped anywhere but the litter box.
Thankfully, this phase didn't last long and I found a litter my kitty liked. She never stayed mad at me. We have a very good mom and cat relationship now. Stick with it. I know it's irritating, but that's the price we pay for having pets. You have to expect a little mess especially with babies!
If you give up this easily, I hate to see how you handle my honery dog! She's a boxer and a big goof ball. She knocks over the trash cans, chews up everything she can get her mouth around, and I even caught her on the very top of my upright piano chasing after the cat! I tell ya my house is like an episode of Tom and Jerry! But I love animals and I wouldn't have it any other way.
If you want a pet, you have to be willing to be patient. I hate the idea of just giving away a pet because they made a mess. What does a person expect with a kitten or a puppy?
My kitty has eyes just like his! :)
I miss my kitty after reading all these...sm
I lost my 17 y/o calico a coulpe of days after Thanksgiving. She was my day to day companion, sitting on my feet and my foot pedal, head going up and down, up and down, seemingly not bothered at all. Once in a while, she would wake up startled, look at me and meow as if a question of "what did you say"? I would tell her to go back to sleep, nobody said anything and rub the back of her neck. I miss her sooo much. I have other kitties but she was my long-term friend.
