First of all, I am sure that painting the walls is the landlord's duty.

Same with the carpet, the landlord has either to clean it or put a new one. It was also his duty to fix the stove and pay for it.
Regarding all the mess in his basement and all the leaks, which emerged after you signed the lease, the landlord is in the wrong, as he did not disclose it to you before you signed the lease.
You are definitely confronted with an dishonest landlord and as a former poster said, get a housing inspection which will prove that the home is 'uninhabitable.'
All this 'junk' in the basement is a perfect breeding and hiding place for roaches, rodents and other pests.
You can definitely get out of this lease and have the right to ask your deposit back.

I'm so excited. I went to my first Walls
and found out that I can buy name-brand jeans for about $5 because I am so short (5') from the discount rack. I guess they made a mistake on the length and they send them to Walls in bulk! YEA!!!
Dark blue walls and white cabinets?
Not entirely clear on that....but I think stainless steel would look good. They are also doing amazing things with concrete countertops. Check out the link.
painting over paneling
Has anyone painted over paneling (mine is in the den and is about 30+ years old) and does it look good or should I just have the paneling taken out? Need opinions and advice, thanks.
painting gourds
Funny you should mention that. I've had a gourd sitting on top of my china cabinet for literally years now. It was a hand-me-down from somebody, who thought my daughter might enjoy decorating. She's 21 now, and the gourd was still there undecorated. So I handed it to my 10-year-old the day before your post, and he just had fun painting it in his 10-year-old way. Sorry, but I know nothing about what books or paints to use - but have fun experimenting!
Painting on glass surfaces
Ok, here is my problem. I bought a beautiful set of China in a magnolia pattern, stunning, for little of nothing. I then was able to get some platters, 4 bowls, salt and pepper and the like from a replacement China company but no where can I find a gravy boat. I have been looking for about 2 months. This is what I had thought of and perhaps someone out there has done this. I have a white gravy boat that I had thought of buying paint to decorate the outside some to make it blend in with my set that I will be using Christmas. Has anyone done any China painting like this or just painting on dishes and what kind of paint would I get. I do not want to have to finish with processing it afterwards, just a 1 stop painting and drying deal. Thanks.
About painting the enamel on the back teeth, SM
these are called sealants and are VERY well worth the money. My kids both had them done and are ages 20 and 25 and neither have ever had a cavity in their back teeth. They also both get Easter baskets until they get married, but that's entirely our choice just because it's fun to do for them!
I'm sure she'll learn much more than painting and collages :-)
Congrats on the acceptance. Focus on that!! I'm sure it's an awesome school.
If everything is included, that sounds about right for a high-end good school and probably not as bad as it seems right now. Look at it this way, it's one less Value Meal you have to buy once a week (or more?LOL).
I am not painting anything. Apparently you have no life experience (sm)
Would you have sex with someone who beat you, cheated on you and talked horribly to you? Someone who married you because they loved you, went to four marriage counsellors and tried everything in their power to improve the marriage?
Would you protect your children if someone was making them rake leaves for 4 to 6 hours and refusing to let them have a break even to get water?
If you were me would you not try to talk to friends you had known for ten years at church?
Oh, and slave duty.
They get to do chores if they can't behave. Having a car, having electronics, going out with friends, those are all optional. What's that joke about CPS and snotty teens? The one stating all we have to provide is a roof, a bed, clothing (even used), and three meals a day?
Jury Duty
I've been called just once and because I used to work for attorneys, I was good friends with the Judge and I couldn't serve. I'd love to, though.
My landlord
lives next door and is my friend's mom. They are great people. He rescued me a few months ago when Mickey and Minnie took up residence. No one would believe this, but that mouse actually made eye contact with me and ran TOWARD me into my tiny bathroom with me! I let out a sound that TARZAN never made! I was on top of the sink, one shoe on, one shoe off, limped into the dining room holding one foot up to avoid touching any fur, etc. My landlord came up with his wife and then set traps. Sad, but true. They took me over to their house and made me a fuzzy navel, which I had already after the bathroom deal! I will tell them about the BAT soon!
Yes, I have a landlord, but the guy SM
next door to me owns his home. My landlord is my neighbor to my right, the dogs to my left. Thanks.
Jury duty in Idaho (sm)
In Idaho they go by driver's license and voter registration so if they don't get you one way they'll get you another I guess. They would miss a lot of people if they only went by voter registration. I have included a link to a page that explains it if you want to check it out. Maybe some states or counties are different, but I bet they probably all do things pretty much the same. Of course maybe this is good for you, it means you were both right, sometimes that's a good way to end a debate amicably.

And who shows up for Jury Duty
I went to Jury Duty months ago. A judge came in the Jury Duty chambers and told us about the lack of a true system in Russia. He personally visited Russia and interviewed their judges and prisoners. Thus, be grateful you live the US. Be grateful you can speak your uncompassionate words.
Anyway in Michigan Jurors show up 47% of the time. Kinda frightening given the judge's comment who is present for court every single day:
Long story short: A rapist was let go because potential jurors don't show up. The case was dismissed. That's really quite sad.
Please no matter no state you are in...........go to Jury Duty.

There's a landlord involved here?
You have rights - if he is violating the rules and/or the law with respect to noise violations he either fixes the problem or moves. Check out the law in your state.
I'd call the landlord
Trying to fix it yourself is great, but what if you end up creating more of a mess and/or damage? If you own the home, you swear a lot and then do what needs to be done. You don't want to be liable for anything happening to a place that you don't own though.
This is why you have a landlord. Call him.
harsh landlord?
If my tenant fails to pay his rent, I cannot make my mortgage payment. Times are tough all around!
I need some heavy duty face cream...
…I have some areas on my face that are extremely dry, around my hair line, around my nose and I have used several creams trying to soften these areas up. Sometimes I even flake on my eyelids like I have sunburn and I use dandruff shampoo on my eyebrows because if not they will flake- no dandruff in the hair, though. I know this sounds awful but this is getting on my last nerve. I have put petroleum jelly on my face overnight- still dry in these patches. Does anyone else have something like this and if so any remedies? Thanks
It's a mother's duty to protect her children
if at all possible and until she knows more about this woman she has no obligation to let her speak to her children - you have obviously never been in this situation. I understand what you are saying about way worse and horrible situations in the world but that is not this OP's problem - her problem here is the emotional wellbeing of her children and it is her call and IMO she made the correct one.
I once was assigned guest book duty.
Like you, I didn't know what that entailed. When I arrived at the reception, I was told to hold the thing as people walked up and signed it. Basically, I was a human podium. If that's what the bride wants you to do, tell her to leave it on the table! How rude of her to expect so much! Show up in the red dress and don't even sign the silly guest book!
How many times you been called for jury duty? sm
We have lived here for 10 years. My husband has been called 4 times! They have never called me. He never gets selected when they find out he is prior military, but we know within a year or two he will get called again. He does not mind and has actually told me he would like to be selected and hear a case sometime. It just makes me wonder, though, how often does everyone else get called?
If I was landlord and OP did dish thing to me,I would

we called their landlord last summer about the noise
trash and the fact that they had gotten a dog, which they werent suposed to have. next thing you know the landlord becomes their friend and maked deals with them allowing them to keep their dog,.yes, a few of my other neighbors and I have decided that we are going to start calling the police on them. its the only way..Summer is just now getting here and its going to be getting crazy around here. I cant even try to sell my house with their trash....we are moving back to the country...needless to say
Try a drain snake or call the landlord. Also,
do not put more Drano down. I have a friend who is a plumber and they absolutely hate going in to work on a drain with Drano or the like in it. Very hazardous for them.
I would talk immediately to the landlord and complain
about the humidity, the mold/mildew and the musty smell.
A moldy apartment is actually characterized as 'not habitable', as mold and mildew are very harmful to health.
If your landlord does not make efforts to rectify this situation, I definitely think that you have good reasons to break your lease, especially since you are already getting sick.
I live in the south and my landlord told me NO SMOKING before she would rent to me...

Yeah, I just did jury duty, served on 2 trials in my small county court. There was a girl
did absolutely nothing. Good-looking, well-dressed young lady, may went out a few times (I'm sure to deliver a message or something), but other than that- absolutely nothing. What a job!. Am sure in my county at least, its all in who you know.
Good luck with your jury duty.
As a landlord with rental property, tenants seem to "pay partial rent" or not pay at all sm
beginning around Nov or December (the holidays). Were they both laid off? Is there no income coming in? Even though I don't know the situation, I can guarantee you that the money was spent elsewhere and now they are paying the price. I'm sorry to have to say this.
My husband and I worked with a family on getting caught up and they were 2 months behind plus late fees (about 1,800) and it was right about this time last year. They had a great Christmas though!
I don't have an answer for you. I don't know if there is anyone who can help someone like your friend or my ex-tenants. Rent should be people's #1 priority and sadly, a lot of the times it just isn't.
