Falling on deaf ears........and

I also urge them to contact their senators and congressman, but I am sad to say too often these things fall on deaf ears. I am forever amazed at how people in this country think if something is imposed by their government, it must be okay! They don't really question why MORE laws, what do we need it for, who is it really benefitting. They just say, "Oh well, what's it hurting. If you're not doing anything wrong you shouldn't care that you are being stripped of your freedoms". Putting more restrictions on US citizens does what for us? Does anyone ever ask what the purpose is for? If they actually think this has anything to do with locating illegals, they are really gullable. The government knows where illegals are....they're in sanctuary cities, heck, they're in my city. Do you see them rounding them up and deporting them? They're marching down our streets holding the Mexican flag.....get a clue...it has NOTHING to do with protecting us. The borders are wide open to illegals, north and south. Instead of taking our freedoms from us, crack down on businesses hiring illegals, quit giving them welfare assistance, free education, free healthcare, free, free, free for ILLEGALS, and guess what?.....no jobs, no healthcare, no freebies, they will go back home. Their home. Does anyone actually ask why we are creating this new law? It's as if they don't really want to know, don't want to be bothered with reading and studying the bill, don't want to question why this is even necessary. If our government says to, then of course it must be good for us because, after all, we are too dumb a people to think for ourselves, at least that's what the federal government hopes, that you'll all sit on your complacent behinds and do nothing......until the deed is done.

Does anyone have a deaf dog?
I got a little doxie mix from the pound.  Took about a week to realize he was completely deaf.  Took him to the vet to confirm.  He's really cute, he's white with some brown around his face with little blue eyes.  He does stand out when I take him for walks...people either laugh or are very interested.  He has a long body like a doxie but his legs are kinda long for a doxie, so pretty sure he has something mixed in there.

Anyway, the vet said he'd never be able to be trained, that he wouldn't be safe around kids, and that he'd be a handful.  I'm not sure, but I think he was actually suggesting that I put him to sleep!!  Needless to say, I changed vets!

Well, that was about 2 years ago.  He is box trained (I live in an apartment), he absolutely loves kids, is gentle with him, and he knows several signals that I have taught him.  If I point anywhere, he goes there. If I stomp my foot, that means come.  If I touch my nose and smile, that means good dog.  He always wags his tail when I do that.  I wouldn't trade him for anything!!

Bonus - he rarely barks, which is a plus living in an apartment!  He'll never be a watchdog but  he is the sweetest, funniest little dog I've ever had!!!

Just wondering if anyone else had a deaf dog and what their experience was/is.

Deaf dogs........
We have a cocker who was deaf and blind and he did just fine for over 14 years. He went blind at age 4 and then deaf within a few years after that. We moved several times during that period and he learned his way around the house faster than the kids. Knew exactly where the back door when he wanted to go outside. Most dogs that are deaf tend to be very quiet because they don't hear things to motivate the barking like hearing dogs. He did some strange things because of that too.....would just jump up from resting and start some crazy sounding barking. The kids and their friends thought it was hilarious. He's been gone for a few years now.

We have a poodle who is 14. She has been deaf for a few years and cataracts affect her eyesight. BUT, don't let anyone tell you you can't work with a deaf dog. She may not can hear but she knows our sign language. She's really smart and she konws when I'm motioning for her to come and go outside to tinkle and even when I'm playing with her, even though she cannot hear my voice anymore. I play with her blanket and she knows I'm playing with her and she starts acting silly. I point to her bed when it's time to go to sleep and she goes in and waits for me to cover her with her blanket.

I understand the sign language you have developed between you and your dog in order to relate. Sounds like he is doing great. As you can see with him, hearing isn't everything and doesn't make the dog.....his soul makes the dog.
We had a dog go deaf and blind - sm
I would get her attention by pounding on the floor, but being blind did not help matters. She would walk off the deck sometimes, about a 2 foot drop, funny to see, though not really, luckily she never hurt herself. I would always try to carry her up and down the steps into the house so she would not get hurt. Dog was dumb as a stick as it was so it got comical sometimes. Sweetest dog in the world though, but a yapper (Schipperke). We eventually put her to sleep at about 15/16 years old when she was really losing it. Good dog though.
Sounds like a great dog! Wow, deaf and
blind....that must have been a challenge...but worth it!

Thanks for sharing!
The sky is falling, the sky is falling.
Heck no, I am not worried about a huge major disaster. Why worry. Does no good and just makes one age faster. I believe things are going to get better. My situation is not dire and if it got to where my husband and I either one lost a job, then I might would cut back some.
falling asleep...
I could ditto your note...sitting here letting my eyes close for little bits feels so good, as do the naps. Then I asked my doc (2 months ago) if I could have a sleep test, and he said "sure"...he has had a huge increase in people taking these tests. Sooo...I took the test - stayed overnight in the hospital all wired up...was really very interesting! and discovered I have severe obstructive sleep apnea!! I never would have guessed it! Two weeks ago I got the CPAP machine and am trying to get used to using it...but find that the last 5 mornings it has been neatly put away on the table sometime during the night...LOL I have no idea when I do that! However, last night I couldn't use it and woke up this morning despirate...could really tell the difference between using it and not using it. I am definitely feeling better with more energy during the day. My line counts are up now 200 a day over previous (and I need to do more). The nurse said I will notice a big difference once I've paid back my body its sleep deprivation - which was an interesting idea. Anyway, I hope you go to your doc and find your way. :^)
falling out of your trailer
this is ridiculous advice.
Between that and her extensions falling off? Yikes is right! LOL

Why am I falling asleep all the time?

I get 7-8 hours a night but during the day, at least for a month now, I've been falling asleep while working! They are really short "naps" maybe a few seconds or more, but this is driving me up a wall, not to mention my paychecks are suffering since I have to back track and relisten to everything I supposedly typed.

I've had this problem for years but it usually only lasts a week or two, and then I'm back to normal. This year, I can count on my fingers the days I didn't have this happen. Some days, I will take a quick cat-nap and before I know it, 2 hours has fallen by the wayside.

BTW, I just started to take vitamins a couple months ago. Could I be" _$$ backwards" and the vitamins cause this problem?

Thanks for your answers.

We got snow!!!!!! Yipeee!!! Its falling in big, big

My little kitty is outside chasing the snowflakes and hopping in it like a rabbit.  How I am supposed to work with this fun stuff going on outside?

Thank you God for nature's beauty and the critters we love.

i can't believe you are falling for someone's story that probably isn't true
Really, who, in the situation this Philly girl describes herself to be in would REALLY talk about it the way she does?  Either this is a very lonely financially strapped person who is living a "make believe" life for the sake of those on this board, or she is insane.  I don't know of anyone who has their life together in the fashion described that would be tooting their horn like that on this board.  You know,"if it is on the internet, then it just has to be true"  NOT.  People like that make up situations and cause chaos and friction in order to get the responses that she has been getting.  That is the payoff.  The responses.  This person is not who she says she is, so we can all just feel sorry for this person with the "make believe life" who acts totally opposite to the position she states she is in. Her behavior is more telling than her words.
I meant to type that for scars which we got a lot of from running around and falling down..the
lemon juice really works very well for fading scars.  I will admit that there are some things on the market today that are really good; but from a personal (and financial) standpoint, what I learned from my grandmother does work very well for me. All you ladies have a good weekend...
I watched a show called The Falling Man last night on Discovery, SM
a show about one of the people who jumped from the World Trade Center. Very moving.
my kids high school has rats falling from ceiling
For the record, Howard County Maryland was just ranked #1 in per capita income IN THE COUNTRY, yet my kids high school had 6 rats fall through the cafeteria ceiling Wednesday. Last year it was rats and sewage - three separate instances where sewage came up through the emergency shower, dripped from the hall ceilings, and came through the child life development pipes. Oh, sure that was fixed. And how in the world did the health department okay this? I tell ya, we sure do NOT put our money where our mouth is on this education battle. Our team mascot should NOT be Ben the rat!! Just so angry over it all.
wax in ears

Also, I totally agree with this post; check his ears.  Every time my son has went for a checkup, they have told me they can hardly see in because of wax.  Told me to get Debrox, an ear drop that dissolves wax.  I usually forget to use it, but remember when he is due for a checkup!!  It can't hurt...

how old should a boy be before he gets his ears

pierced? My son wants hoops but he's only 9.  I told him about 13 but i'm wondering if i'm being to hard on him.  Please don't write and say a boy shouldn't be allowed to have his ears pierced; I am happy for him to do it and won't change my mind on it but I just want to know how long other moms made their sons wait.

TIA!

anyone have ringing in ears?
I know in this profession we tend to diagnose ourselves - I have ringing in only one ear - is not affecting hearing - most annoying when things are quiet - from what I can tell it is usually in both ears if related to medication or other things that are a simple fix.  I'm thinking brain tumor!! Anyone else have similar experiences?
ringing in ears
I notice this after taking aspirin.
yes, and he has funky ears too.
when his hair was shorter you could see them better.

I started watching a couple years ago on and off and now I am hooked.

I am glad Nick and Taylor got married today, and he did not give in to Brooke. Can you image someone being like that in real life? So pathetic. ICK.
ears pierced?

Say what you want, but ask yourself how that'll be working for him when he's out in the real world trying to get a decent job?

I personally think it looks strange for a man to wear jewelry. The Tiffany Reference book specifically says a man should only wear a watch and wedding band, if applicable.

Having a conversation like this with a 9YO makes me just shudder.

pierced ears
My son was the same as as yours when he asked to get his ears pierced. He wanted both of them pierced, so we compromised on one. He wears a very small green birthstone and sometimes a very small hoop and takes very good care of it. I felt this was not a big deal. There are much bigger issues to worry about. An ear piercing, in my opinion, is not one of them.
tears in my ears.
is how the song goes.

It's one of my favorites.
Clean out your ears so they can crawl out.
x
LOL or like my fat Siamese. My ears couldn't take it.
MEOW, MEOW!!
I've probably done damage to my ears

had front row seats to Jimi Hendrix!  Loved concerts.  My kids still laugh at me.  Now with my Ipod I am even liking cleaning the house!

My husband has 1 of his ears pierced
and he is just about the sexiest thing I have ever ran across! When we first started going together he had an earring- somewhere over the years it is not there and I told him the other day want him to get another 1- he is 1 heck of a man and a manly 1 at that!
why not cut off the ears at birth to prevent
not circumcising can be reversed, if the boy/man so chooses. Having had a friend working in a gay porn store, hehe, there is a consensus among men that circumcised men miss out...
*ears perk up* cherry cream?
That sounds YUMMY! Oh, and if you had a piece of chocolate cream with it...

I think I'm going to follow you. Wish I had a MIL that made good pies. It would make it all worth it. lol

I wouldn't have to worry about keeping my mouth shut...It would be full of pie!
Do you think that piercing a child's ears is abuse?
nm
Whistle blower! My grandma always blew the whistle in their ears. nm

Pity Party going on here. Head cold, stuffed up ears, cough, whaa! whaa ! whaa!

I have been working 7 hours so far today and have managed to type about 700 lines.  Spending more time with hands reaching for kleenex and/or sanitizer.  I HATE a cold.

Okay, nuff said I will shut up and suffer in silence.

Have a good one.
