Downloading music

You have to download the music to your computer, then you can save it on the CD.  I use an iPod, but they do have restrictions.  IPods are set up as MP4 files rather than MP3, so you can't transfer the music back and forth from an iPod to say, a Zune.  I love the iPod and iTunes, though.  I'm big on the instant gratification aspect of being able to download the music, movies, and TV shows that I want.  I have 2 iPod Video and I use them both quite a bit.

About the free music - I don't know about those.  It's my understanding that any free music site is basically illegal (I could be wrong, though).  I've always paid for mine, so I don't know much about it.

Downloading music/spoiled musicians and athletes
sbMT wrote: "cheating consumers for decades by selling tapes, cds and albums with only 1, maybe 2, good songs on them out of 10-15 songs. Remember back when you'd buy an album, and MOST of the songs on it were good?"

Yeah, actually I do remember the time. You would actually listen to the entire album. Or, if you wanted, just buy the 45.

Now you have to wait for "the best of" to come out in order to get more than a few good songs.

But I do agree that these musicians and sports stars income has gotten out of control.

What athlete truly is worth $12 mil a year? The QBs and WRs are usually paid that salary if they're really good. I loved Randy Moss when he was a Viking, his faults and all but what they paid him is outrageous - plus they just upped the NFL salary cap so the salaries will be even higher. And I truly think that if Moss stays with a QB that is good, he will break all of Jerry Rice's records.

However, I grew up watching quarterbacks like Indian Joe Kapp, playing with one bar across his helmet and taking big time hits from players like Deacon Jones like his famous "head slaps". They didn't baby the QB like they do now. Good grief, if you touch him with your fingertip 0.007 seconds after he releases the ball, it's a 15 yard penalty. Sissies. Go back and watch some football from the 70's. That was real football, not the prima donna crap you see today.

Now I'm sounding like an old fogey but I do miss the good old days of good music and good football. And yes, I still do watch football and root for my beloved Vikings every year but it disappoints me that the game has evolved the way it is and there are so darned many rules that the refs end up deciding at least one game a season with a bad call.

As far as music, heck - would you ever buy a copy of Pink Floyd's The Wall and not listen to every song? Any Zeppelin albums out there that haven't been worn down (entire album) by repeated playing?

OK. I'll get off my soap box now. ;-)
For free downloading, I like Limewire. - sm
You can't download directly to a CD. But using a site such as Limewire, you can download it to a music library on the site. Music files can also be transferred from the shared library at Limewire into your own music folder on your PC, too. For me, that makes them easier to transfer to a CD. Then you can put together a play list and burn it to a CD with your CD-burner.

I have a Creative Zen MP3 player, but to be honest, I've never uploaded music to it, so hopefully another reader has those answers. (I bought the Zen used from a friend who has to have the LATEST in techie gear. It was already loaded with music, and I like his taste, so as of yet, since I havent even heard everything on the player, I haven't needed to add anything more. I have so many CDs I've burned over the years, plus my car has a CD player in it, that even though it's becoming a tad obsolete, I still prefer my CD player. (Plus the batteries last much, much longer than the ones in my MP3 player), so most of the time, unless I remember to recharge it, my MP3 player is usually dead. (Or "dormant"?) ;D

If you need help, a good source of that is teenagers! They know everything when it comes to downloading music!
Woman Fined $1.9 Million For Illegally Downloading 24 Songs

(CNN) -- A federal jury Thursday found a 32-year-old Minnesota woman guilty of illegally downloading music from the Internet and fined her $80,000 each -- a total of $1.9 million -- for 24 songs.

Jammie Thomas-Rasset's case was the first such copyright infringement case to go to trial in the United States, her attorney said.

Attorney Joe Sibley said that his client was shocked at fine, noting that the price tag on the songs she downloaded was 99 cents.

She plans to appeal, he said.

Cara Duckworth, a spokeswoman for the Recording Industry Association of America, said the RIIA was "pleased that the jury agreed with the evidence and found the defendant liable."

"We appreciate the jury's service and that they take this as seriously as we do," she said.

Thomas-Rasset downloaded work by artists such as No Doubt, Linkin Park, Gloria Estefan and Sheryl Crow.

This was the second trial for Thomas-Rasset. The judge ordered a retrial in 2007 after there was an error in the wording of jury instructions.

The fines jumped considerably from the first trial, which granted just $220,000 to the recording companies.

Thomas-Rasset is married with four children and works for an Indian tribe in Minnesota.

MUSIC
Don't forget (and I can't remember who sings it)...Celebrate!! I am in my 30s and we always [and still do sometimes (shh..my kids think we're weird)] like to dance to Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Also, I'm not a big fan but most of the people I know like Jimmy Buffet.

Hope that helps!!
Music
Has anyone tried listening to a CD while you work??  I accidentally stumbled across this as my son was blaring some of his music.  But there are a couple of CDs of his I like I play them in the background, it helps me concentrate and improves my speed.  Am I the only weird one???
I like music as well....

I've found that it keeps you focused, but I was used to listening when I worked full-time on-site.  I am quite accustomed to background noise from when my children were young, but now that they are in school, it makes me feel "not so lonely".  I do not, however, prefer the TV blaring unless it is on a music channel.  I think it is quite soothing, and I'm not real sure why....  lol

music
I always have a CD playing in the background but it's got to be something soothing and relaxing like Enya.  Being home alone all day can be really boring and lonely without it. I find it really too quiet otherwise.
DVDs, CDs, what do they like? music, TV?

Looking for music to exercise by - sm

I received an iTunes gift card for Christmas and am looking for music I can download to my iPod to exercise by.  I'd really like exercise-specific music that includes a slower song or two for the warmup, then a steady faster rhythm for 30 minutes or so and then another slower song for the cooldown.

I suppose I could create my own list, but it would take me way too long to figure out 30 minutes' worth of songs with the same basic rhythm!

Any help sure would be appreciated.  I'm so tired of feeling guilty every time I walk past the treadmill that I just "had" to have.

Filthy rap music...
The teachers have to take turns doing "car duty" in the afternoons, making sure the car riders get in their vehicles safely. Well, yesterday, a mother pulls up with 5 of her children in tow, and had 5 more children at this elementary school where my daughter works. One of her children is in my daughter's classroom and so my daughter called her over to put her on the car. When she opened the door, she said the music playing was pure filth, and in 5 seconds, she heard the "n" word, the "b" word, the "f" word, and what this woman should wrap her legs around, if you know what I mean. Now, this "mother" of all 10 children, has the music up so loud, she doesn't even realize her door is open and the teacher is standing there with her 8 year old daughter in hand. A 12 year old in the backseat hollers out, mamma, the teachers at the door, to which the mother nearly swallowed her tongue, and quickly turns the music off. My daughter said I wanted to tell her if you're not ashamed of that filth you listen to and let your children listen to, then why turn it down on my account? She must be a proud mom letting her daughters hear that filth, degrading women to less than dirt. So, that's 10 more children and several girls who will grow up sadly with that crap music and sadly enough, the music producers making a mint off of their ignorance. Some can't afford lunch money, but they can sure darn afford a $20 CD full of filth. But, if course, when the kids are repeating this nasty lyrics in class and have to be reprimanded, I suppose the parents think that the teachers' fault too.
I don't listen to music, but I have the TV SM
on in the room next to me. Can't miss my Golden Girls. It just relaxes me and I feel like someone is here and the mood is lightened if I am stressed.
What kind of music is on your
Mine is a mixture of 60s, 70s, 80s, and everything in between.  I have Van Halen, Elton John, Fergie, George Jones...just to name a few.  My kids listen to it and can't understand the combination, but it's just music I like.  So, what's on yours? I'm looking for some suggestions to add to my collection...
Anyone download music?
I just want some songs to burn onto a CD to listen to in my car or my home stereo.  I don't have any fancy iPod or MP3 player.  My brother uses a site that does file sharing and I cannot/do not want to use a site like that.  I don't trust them!  Are there any sites that don't do file sharing?  I looked at Napster, but it won't give you the price unless you fill in all of your info (name, e-mail).  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Walmart here has the music CD for $10 (sm)
Not sure if they have the actual cartoon...I love how it puts the season back in the right perspective. I also think the fact that I have been watching it around Christmas since I was a kid has something to do with it helping me feel "Christmasy". The CD is really good though-I've seen the cartoon so many times I can picture it while I'm listening to the music and doing other things.
At least you've got music - LOL (nm)

Any Music lovers out there?
My anniversary was last week, and I had no idea what to get my husband, so I made him a guitar pick necklace. He really liked it and I had two or three people ask me to make them one, so I decided I would make some and see if people liked them. Here's a picture of a few I made.

If anyone's interested let me know! Or if you have any ideas! I went to Micheal's this weekend and bought a bunch of goodies so I'll be making more!

How do you get your neighbor to keep the music down
This is very frustrating for us. There is a degenerate 16-year-old kid next door (bully of the neighborhood). When his parents are not home (or at least we believe they are not home) he sits outside and plays music (if that's what you call it) in his car radio. It vibrates inside the house and all we can hear is THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. DH has asked him over and over and over to keep the noise down, and he turns it down, that is until the next day or two. I was thinking of asking our police to come by and explain to him and his family of a noise ordinance in this town, but they've cut back so much in police don't think they would do that. - Okay as I'm writing DH just got so p.o.'d he flew out the door and is going asking him to keep it down, but this will only last for the day.

Anyone have any suggestions? Have concerns about getting his parents involved cos the last lady who told him to do something he muttered under his breath (not loud enough for her to hear, but we heard him) "Shut the F up or I'll come and kill you".

Okay, another part of the story. DH just came in and evidently the mother is home. DH was going to say something but the kid was out in front with his little gang friends and he said to his mother "hey mom, the people down around the corner just complained about the music. How could she hear it all the way down there. We were here first so they can move. I think I'll go down and pee on her lawn". So...evidently the mother does know. DH just looked at him and didn't say anything and the degenerate walked over to the car and turned down the music.

Any suggestions.

Do you listen to music while you work?? (sm)
I do sometimes if I get sleepy or if my mind starts to wander.  Not anything with words that I would pay attention to, mostly just music, fast paced helps me type faster - anyone else? Just curious
I LIKE e-cards... animation, music, etc.
card as long as it has a written message with it, and not just a mass-produced 'newsletter'. If no personal note comes with it, the sender just wasted a stamp.

Pianists out there - I need music for a funeral
for a friend who is dying - the Irish tune, Danny Boy.  He has asked that it be played at his funeral.  Would anyone be willing to send me a copy?  I will pay for postage.  Thanks.
I've always loved MJ's music. He will -(sm)-
sure be missed by me and my circle of friends!

What's really weird is how I learned of his death. I was typing a just-dictated, STAT report, and for I few moments the doctor stopped talking to look through her notes. I overheard two nurses in the baqkground, and one was telling the other that Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson had both died today. So I checkded the news online, and sadly, it was true.

I also feel sorry for all the people who had tickets to one of his big concerts in London this summer.... something I'd have LOVED to attend. What a profound disappointment!

Johnny Mathis music trivia....

Any Johnny Mathis fans out there from the 1960's.  I'm trying to find a song that he sang that went something like this.....
"One look, one meeting, two hearts as one beating..... one look and I knew....... "

I think I only had one album by him called "heavenly" and I finally found it on line, but it does not list that song and I cannot figure out where else I would have heard it from.  It's driving me nuts...anyone remember it?

The music is really good. I've already downloaded

Music groups you are too embarrased to admit you like
Anyone out there love a musical group (or person) but are too embarrassed to admit it. You know, the kind that your friends make fun of but you secretly say to yourself, I love that music. - Mine are:

Village People
Glen Campbell (Wichita Lineman) - Excellent video on youtube
Bay City Rollers
And most all disco music (Bee Gees, Super Freak Rick James, Taste of Honey, KC Sunshine Band)

Questions

I have breastfed and am currently breast feeding and would like to ask you

If you were on the air plan which would you prefer the mother breastfeeding her child to comfort and keep him/her quiet in this cramped uncomfortable environment or to listen to this child scream bloody murder making your trip totally unbearable????

Some thoughts:

Children that young dont know how to clear their ears when changing altitudes and it easier to either have them sleeping or sucking.

Also some young children that are breastfed refuse bottles completely.

Older babies do not like to have their faces covered while eating they want to see their mommy and surroundings.

Personally:

I am the mother of a ten month old that will be flying (on a long flight) for the first time next month.  I plan on breastfeeding him if needed and if I do need to I will have my older daughter there to hold a small blanket up as a sort of shielding wall. I am more than ready to be done breastfeeding and am working very hard to get him there as well but because his schedule doesnt agree with mine I dont think that I should be barred from traveling on a plane and I think the other passengers on the plane would prefer I comfort my child to the best of my ability so that they can try and enjoy their trip as well.

The sucky part about is I will be on the mentioned airlines soooooo may be my son wont get to meet his grandparent for the first time because my child comes first always!!!!  Take care everyone and enjoy your holidays I am climbing off my soap box now

you need to ask yourself 2 questions sm
1. Can the bridesmaids comfortably wear a strapless dress (not everybody can)?
2. Do the shoulders need to be covered if the wedding is in a church?

I'd choose number 2.
Two questions

Has she been anywhere that she could have come in contact with bedbugs? (stayed at a motel, slept over at a friend's house)

Is it possible she has been in contact with poison ivy?

We went through a similar problem with my husband a while ago. He has to travel sometimes for his job, and several years ago he picked up some bedbugs from a hotel.

Since then, we have moved to a new house and he got a new bed. When he started itching again we were concerned it was bedbugs, but the rash was similar to how you describe your daughter's rash, and we finally figured out he had probably gotten into some poison ivy in our back yard.

Good luck - I hope you figure out the cause (and cure) soon.

questions
I think a lot depends on your specific circumstances. I got an apartment because he refused to move out. I had planned it for months. Legally though if you leave and the house is in both your names, that's not good because he'll get the house.

As far as the kids, so much depends on their ages but you'd be surprised how much they already intuitively know. Just be honest with them and make sure they know they are loved by both of you, and that none of this is their fault. Give them as much stability as possible and once they see you are happier, their lives will be too.
There are a lot of questions here,
1 being the fact that this "nanny" was supposed to be with the 16-year-old. The police said they are sticking with their story, the Travolta camp saying differently. Supposedly this child had two (2) nannies that were supposed to be with him at all times. If a cover up, it has a lot to do with it.
Some questions sm
Boy this is a tough situation. My first thoughts are to ask you if you feel he has been a good husband. In other words, if this DID happen 17 years ago, perhaps he has changed his ways and become a better partner. However, you indicate you think he's lying to you so I'm wondering if you have trust issues even today. You really need to sit down and have a long heart to heart with hubs and clear this up because it's not easy to throw away 17 years of a marriage and children together.
Well, more questions then
If this only happens once a month, or approximately every 28 days....

How long has it been going on?

Is she gaining weight?

Is there a boyfriend in her past or present?

I've had friends who got pregnant at 14. It happens. And nobody had a clue that anything was going on.
Do a search in iTunes for workout music. There are people
sets of music based on tempo. You can download slower, medium, or faster sets.
