The info you fill out is used by the school, your state, and the US government to award financial aid in the form of grants, gov't loans (which would be in your daughter's name), and scholarships.
Filling out the FAFSA is how I'm spending my day today, once I stop procrastinating. It's a PITA but worth it.
Good Luck!

FAFSA! (sm)
Free Application for Federal Student Aid:
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
Filling the FAFSA form out is THE most important thing you can do for you and your student. EVERYONE with a college-bound student needs to fill out this form to receive any aid, and I believe many scholarships use the FAFSA as a guideline.
I went to a college info meeting at my son's school the beginning of his senior year. The guidance counselor stressed the importance of this form. He said for the students to apply to any school they desire, regardless of cost, because each one varies in their financial aid package. You may get more from Harvard than you would from your state univ.
My son, much to my chagrin, did not want to go to an in-state school, but did end up at an out-of-state state univ. because they offered him more than half the total cost of tuition/room/board. This aid consisted of considerable grants (no repayment), scholarships (no repayment, offered by the university), and federal loans (repayment needed, but one was subsidized so no interest accrues while he is still a student). The federal loans are in my son's name and six months after graduating he will have to begin repayment.
I had about one full year's worth of an average college tuition saved up for my son by the time he graduated from high school. I kept all of it in long-term CDs as college fast approached, and for his freshman year and I took out a federal PLUS loan, keeping that saved money earning interest for one more year before needing it. That PLUS loan is the only loan I will take out for his education, the rest is on him - as it should be. He is now in his junior year and there is more than half of that original savings left. Every year he gets more and more aid because I have less and less! Because of our financial status, my son was eligible to apply for a work/study job. He has had the same job since a Freshman, he gets a raise every year, and he even got a scholarship from that job! I have told my son his work/study money is his spending money while a school. It's been working out great and I've never sent him a cent.
Of note, my son did receive some sports scholarships, payable directly to the univ., which took away the same amount in financial aid that the school would have awarded, so sports scholarships did him no good. He made out the best with scholarships/grants awarded from his univ that we didn't even apply for, but were based on the FAFSA form. Our own state gives us a check every year for $300 due to financial need - we never applied for that, they got the info from the FAFSA form.
I refuse to borrow against my house, I refuse to take out more than one loan, and I refuse to co-sign a loan for my son (or anyone). I am a single mom with no other financial help other than my income, and you all know we don't make a heck of a lot as MTs! I told my son in his junior year of high school "I have X amount of money for college and it's all yours. The rest is up to you to pay." College tuition should never put the parent(s) in financial jeopardy. You just do what you safely can.
There are a bazillion scholarships/grants out there. Your daughter's guidance office should be of enormous help in sorting through them, helping fulfill the requirements, writing the essays, etc.
If not already, push your daughter to work as much as she can starting RIGHT NOW. She should be working her butt off in the summers working more than one job if need be. That will show you how bad she wants to go away - or not! She can bank that money in a safe, interest-bearing account like a CD. Even if she just earns $100 in interest in the next two years, there's a book, or a course fee, or two application fees to a college.
Good luck! You all can do it!
Thanks for your posts...yes FAFSA gives some
assistance but not enough, she still needs like $5000 for each semester (this is an Ohio public university)....education sure has gotten expensive, but you have to have it!!! Good Luck DW, stay in school,,if you can find a cosigner, Sallie Mae has what they call a Tuition Answer Loan, (you still need a cosigner) but the check is sent directly to you and the process really isn't bad...but the PROBLEM is getting a cosigner!!!!
I did not see, fill me in. nm

$65 to fill up my gas tank
Granted I was completely on EMPTY, but $65??
It was $3.08 per gallon at the WAWA, it was $3.12 at the local Shell station. This is the cheap stuff BTW!
How much are you paying for gas in your neck of the woods?
I have had my fill today and I can be as
ticked off as I like. If someone gave me millions and I mean this, I would never want to visit India or anywhere that the language sounded anywhere near that. It basically hurts my ears to listen to this all day long. When you cut into my money, very thing I can get irritated about. I even had a NP who was an ESL herself dictating for a physician today and heck that was no better. I have done this work over 30 years and it only gets worse, not to mention the drop in pay. Frankly my dear, I don’t care to be enlightened.
haven't heard......fill me in...

Misha, please fill me in on the hypermobile

Buy one of those bathtubs and fill them up with bath toys sm
and baby towels, washcloths, Johnson & Johnson stuff, etc.
Or buy one of those dishwashwer tubs that fit into the dishwasher that holds nipples, pacifiers, etc and wrap that up in a baby bath towel with a big bow on it.
Get a basket and fill it up with onesies, socks, kits that include medicines, etc.
I love going to baby showers and creating unique gifts!
oh yeah, and free glasses with fill-up's
Our cupboards were full of glasses earned for fill-ups! i had forgot about that :)
We painted ours too - looks great - didn't fill cracks either
We used Kilz first to block any stain that might seep through and then painted over it kind of an off white (called orange peel). I love it - so much brighter and looks good.
I paid $65 to fill mine yesterday, too. And it wasn't - sm
empty, it was 3/4 full! I paid $3.81/gallon. :(
I wish I hadn't promised my mom I'd come to Thanksgiving dinner (in Los Angeles)... I'll be paying off that trip on my gasoline credit card 'til well after New Year's.
I wish I'd taken 2 weeks off work so I could RIDE MY BIKE down there, instead.........

Tell her to forget it.
It isn't her wedding. Plain and simple. Stick to what your son really wants not what he may be pressured in to.
Don't forget though
that while you can get outside help, a restraining order will not necessarily save you if the guy won't abide by it. I don't know anything about this woman or this case, but I'm just sayin.
Don't forget the pig (sm)
You can dress him all up in leather and boots as your "assistant".
How Could I Forget !?!
I also love Piglet from Winnie the Pooh, and Dorie from Finding Nemo. My friends laughed like crazy when we first saw that movie, because I totally AM Dorie.
thanks..trying to forget it lol
i might give it a try. I just wish I didn't have to pay shipping!
I tried the Physicians Formula version of bare minerals and thought it brought out the lines in my face too much so I swore off those powder-type foundations. I have heard a lot of good things about bare minerals so I guess I should try it!

Your welcome! Don't forget to
check the theater website for coupons or a frequent visitor card. He probably wouldn't fill one out himself but you could fill it out and include it in with the gift card. Usually you can get free drinks, etc. and it will really stretch the gift card.
We did a "movie pack" for my brother-in-law and sister-in-law last year. I found a plastic popcorn bucket at the $1 store and wal-mart had candy in the boxes (like at the movies) for a $1. Turned out to be a very cute gift if I do say so myself. We through the giftcard in there instead of buying a $3 card to go along with the giftcard.

Just one question. Do you ever forget anything and
have to go back and get it? I do.
I will NEVER forget what I got for my 16th...
My mother wrapped a box, and inside was a telephone. I was a little confused, as this was WELL before the days of cell phones. It was my own phone line for my room. Now in the day and age of kids having cell phones, that isn't probably a wonderful idea, but it's certainly cheaper than a cell phone, you have more control over it, she can't lose it... And if your DD doesn't have a cell phone of her own, it's still a pretty durn cool present.
But what do I know? I haven't been cool since about 1989...
Don't forget the next generation
will be at it sooner than you'd think, LOL.

Oh God how could I forget when my husband and I first met sm
I was invited to the in-laws for Thanksgiving. I was SOO in love with my husband back then and wanted to impress his family so much! A few weeks before Thanksgiving I had found this yeast roll recipe TO DIE FOR! I would roll the bread, let it rise, bake them, and they would rise about 5 times it's size with a delicious, light, fluffy flavor. So, I told my soon-to-be mother-in-law I would do the rolls (to feed 25+ people).
Well, I prepared the night before but we had had a bad frost and the house was COLD! I woke up the next morning and the bread had risen just a little bit, but I thought I'd bring them anyway and bake them there. All 60 or so pieces! I got to their house (good thing they had a double oven) and began baking the rolls thinking they would rise with the heat from the oven. They never did! They ended up being as heavy as a hockey puck (I swear), gooey, chewy, and just plain bad. The only person that ate them was my soon-to-be father-in-law (whom I adore to this day!). This was in a pretty small town so the only thing open was the Git-N-Go gas station. I knew they didn't carry any bread.
Can you imagine how mortified I was???? The one thing I was asked to bring and BOMBED it. So, we all went without bread that year. Needless to say, they've never asked me to bring the rolls ever again. Come to think of it, they haven't asked me to bring anything since! I swear! haha
That is such a bad thing to forget, would you not say?
Then you kill yourself? I have a variety of medications for different ailments, things for sleep, things for pain- I don’t buy forgetting. I would buy if you are trying to dope up, that I would buy but oops,,, took too many, checking out time. If you cannot keep up with the dosages of medss, they have these separated plastic thingys you put your pills in day by day. No excuses really - except doping it up and ooops...
don't forget about your rebate too!
I think it's $600 per adult and $300 per child - if you're within the income limits. Most people are because it's designed for the middle class workers. To promote us to spend more. I think most of us already have it spent and are waiting for it to pay off the bills.
I'm with you - we always pay off the credit card or a large expense, like furniture. We do those 1-year financing deals. My husband said no more of those. We'd like to use our refund for vacation.
and lets not forget
Beauty is as beauty does.
For me, it's because I usually forget the list!
I'm a person who has to write reminders to remember my reminders.
I say forgive, of course, but forget, NO WAY......sm
To be a true friend and truly care for someone, you first have to respect them and honor their dignity....how can care for anyone, friend, lover, or whatever, if you cannot be TRUTHFUL? How can you say you respect someone whiile blatantly lying to them? As a Christian and hopefully good person, I belive we always have to forgive, but to forget as if nothing had happened, that is impossible, I would think. She betrayed you by lying, not by seeing your ex, that is HER problem if she wants a second-hand loser, but friendship is a sacred bond, I am sure you can forge some newer, better friendships, can you ever feel any confidence in this woman again? Just my firm opinion, I had this done to me many years ago when very young, and although we tried, the friendship was never the same, for obvious reasons. God bless in your decision!
I can forgive, but how to forget?
a few weeks back my youngest son was injured. My mother came by to bring him some ice cream. For some reason something i said or did made my mother angry. I did not know this at the time. My husband and I went to lunch with said child, my mother and grandmother the next day. I noticed they were acting rather stiff and one time hubby, child and I went to the bathroom. When I walked back to the table M and G promptly stopped talking. Confused, the next day I called and asked the grandmother if I had done something wrong. Out of the blue she stated that she didn't think i should not let one child do something without the other (speaking about a birthday party they were BOTH invited to) I laughed and told her they had both been invited, that the child invited all of his friends and their brothers and I would never dream of self inviting my child to a party!!! Anyway I called my mother and told her the same thing. They both still sounded rather stiff. Well along came Thanksgiving. My MIL came over to our house so we didn't go to my grandma's house. My sister in law then told me all the things that were said about me...that I treat my oldest like crap, my youngest is a spoiled brat, etc. and that my grandma was actually CRYING because she believes my oldest is treated so badly. I honestly have NO CLUE where they got all of this!! I was flabbergasted!!! I just wrote them both off and just never really wanted to talk to them. No confrontation, nothing. I didn't even return their calls.
So today my grandma stops by unannounced and begs me to forgive her and that she wants to see my boys some time during christmas. SHe won't talk about the incident, what sparked it or even what the heck my mom thinks is so bad about how i have treated my oldest. I'm at a loss. On one hand I really want to get together with her. She is just going on something that someone else told her about me. On the other hand I feel like my every move will be judged if I am around her with my kids. I told her I forgive her and I honestly do, but i'm not sure how to get past this. I'm having a Christmas lunch Saturday with my brother. Should I invite her or just say to heck with it and not see her?
Don't forget Bluebirds!!!!
I went through to the first levels of cadettes but nothing after that.
Just forget it. This is the Gab Board, isn't it?
I have seen stupider questions asked on this board.
What's wrong with asking Americans if they like Europeans and which European nationals they like most?
What's wrong with you people!
Or maybe you react like this because the majority never met a European and have never been outside of the US, never traveled in an airplane.
Geeeez!!

Don't forget that Kate has also
been accused of cheating with her bodyguard. At least Jon is man enough to acknowledge that he made mistakes in their marriage which is something Kate did not do until last night with her fake tears. She also cheated on the boyfriend before Jon.
I quit watching the show after she insisted that she never had any help with the kids, prepared all meals, rarely took vacations as it was not in their budget and could not afford to and overall, very frugal. It came out that she had nannies, a personal chef, all vacations were paid for, cosmetic work paid for, 75,000 an episode, 3,000 speaking fee - seems she lies about a lot of things so why not cheating?
The way she made a fool of Jon was an outrage with her constant yelling and demaning way.
Should they divorce, I hope Jon gets full custody. Those kids are nothing but a meal ticket to her. She has exploited them from day one. I also heard that she put down another famly that had sextuplets - guess she is getting nervous but that family said they would never put their children in front of the camera.
I think the kids would have a stable life with Jon.

important dates (and I'm not the only friend she does this to), then don't you think you would get a system going where you could be reminded about important things and dates? They have palm pilots, notebooks, pesonal alarm clocks, etc., to help you in remembering dates. But it's not only that, it's specific conversations we have together that, the next time we talk, she doesn't even remember.
I'm sorry, but if you truly tried you could remember. I am terrible with names. I teach a class part-time and so when I meet someone I have to write their names down since I am a visual learner. Again, I'm trying and fixing what I know needs to be fixed.
She is in her 30s. She just needs to slow down, take inventory, and cut things out of her life so she can remember the things she needs to remember. And I've told her this before. I'm just through. That's it for me.
yeah, and don't forget to mention--sm
that it is HUMID there 99% of the time, even in the winter. If you like to sweat, it is great! There is also the possibility of hurricanes, depending on how close you are to the coast, but even inland can get the effects of them. Just some of the cons. thought I would throw them in. I lived in SE Virginia, clost to NC border...hated it! Beautiful country!! but lousy weather! Glad I am back in WI.
Don't forget to ahead of time...sm
Figure out what you want to sell things for, and check ebay to see what items you have are currently selling there, and don't sell for less than that at a yard sale.
For example, recently I sold a used PDA for $20 + $10 shipping on eBay that my attempts to sell at a yardsale only had offers of $5. It had all of the original packaging, books, cables, etc and retails currently for $100.
I also sold a sump pump on eBay for $25 + $15 shipping that originally cost $80. At our yardsale I had guys bickering at wanting to pay even $15 for it.
Bottom line: Know the market and have fun, but don't be a sucker! :o)
