Do you attend a local state fair in the summer? How far
s
Free Concerts
The NYS Fair has a lot of free concerts every year. A lot of older acts or acts that used to be big in the 80's. It's actuall a lot of fun. Example - Billy Ray Cyrus last year and Rick Springfield the year before.
Ours attend local college PT and still live at home. Hard to make ends meet "out there" on

Free bowling for kids this summer - sm
I just got told about this yesterday, it's a summer program thru Aug. 31 for kids to bowl for free, 2 games a day until 5pm, for the whole summer, just have to pay shoe rental. I signed us up for it, have a nice place here about 30 mins from us on the list of participating bowling alleys, and we are set. They also have a family plan that is $23.95, and up to 4 adults can bowl too w/o incuring any additional fees except for shoes again. Last time we went it was $100 for 4 people, 2 games, shoes, a pizza and a pitcher of soda. So this is a steal. Just thought I'd put the word out. I plan on buying us all shoes so we can save on rental, and will break even on those in 2-5 visits/person depending on what I spend. Our place charges $5/person/game and $4.50 for shoe rental, so one outing for us (4) with no food, 2 games, $58, so we go rarely. Just thought I'd pass this on!

You're free to pray, but not free to discriminate
It's as simple as that.
Offered the job..
Had a surprise phone interview today. I have to figure out how to afford the job now lol. I might keep my part-time transcription job that I make 20-30 an hour to sort of even out the low pay. I did get the idea that they would be trying to get me to work in their transcription department eventually where the pay is much higher.. I'd have to think hard about that. I am so bored with it. Maybe we can work out a part time schedule doing both..hmmm.
Since they offered, take them up on it -sm
it is great that they are willing to do that. As for the smell, it will probably take a while to get the smell out, clean the carpets, wipe down everything with cleaner/vinegar, etc. Smoke gets everywhere and lingers. A good air cleaner/filter may help get the smell out quicker too. I hate smoking and could never live with one. They will always reek of course, but if they are outside at least you don't have it around all the time and your clothes won't stink as well. Plus secondhand smoke is just as harmful as actual smoking.
I went to a psychologist who offered it.
I met with the psychologist for an initial visit and we figured out that my anxiety was more acute than my depression, and I didn't know how to relax. So he taught a relaxation technique and then I met with the biofeedback tech instead of him after that. She hooked me up to a machine that read how well I could do the exercises and from her feedback I learned how to relax. That's when I realized exercise caused that feeling also, especially if your rib cage is really working. Expanding those muscles with exercise seems to be a great trigger.
My husband offered to buy that too
maybe that will be on my christmas list. :)
I offered an explanation
I did not say every smart person has substance abuse problems or mental issues, I merely gave my opinion on how or why this may be so, since you seemed to think such scenarios were impossible.
First, i didn't ask, they OFFERED
some people just "amaze" you? Yea the ones that want to LIVE their life and not die from second hand smoke...
that's beside the point. I had to comment on that cause it was rude and i specifically asked if it was fair, and you had to be snippy.
They offered to smoke outside when I asked if they smoked. Im just wondering if I can keep MY stuff from smelling, in my room, stuff like that.
I think it's pretty rude of smokers to smoke inside when youre sharing with a nonsmoker anyway. You KNOW it stinks. have some class.
and yea it will be my choice to live there or not but I just had to respond to that
At the church I used to attend --
they instituted a "reform program," whereby the associate pastor and elder members of the church agreed to take in single men who were recently paroled. They dressed up and brought them to church every week. They were introduced when they first came, but nothing was mentioned about their "crime life", etc.
My point is, to the newer church goers, these men seemed like perfectly respectable church-going men, all the while they weren't. Please keep this in mind.
I was offered that option...
in second grade, to be promoted at Christmas break to 3rd grade. I was reading at a 5th-6th grade level. My mother, who had skipped a grade in elementary school, and then combined her 11th and 12th grades of high school in order to graduate during the depression and go to work, said "no." She said it wasn't a good experience for her socially and she couldn't allow it--and she was right, I would have probably ended up needing a tutor for mathematics, in addition to feeling out of place. I believe it's so great now that there are accelerated classes tailored to a child's strong points.
Thank you, Lilly! Unfortunately, I do have to attend with him and the other gentleman
because of the nature of the conference and both of them are the district heads. However, although I do believe he is a very kind and respectable person, I feel a bit too vulnerable at the moment to go it alone, so I contacted an MT I know from the area we are going to and she is going to meet me for dinner that evening and show me some of the shops. This gives me my "out" not to have dinner with them and also to stay within my boundaries.
I am a widow, so these feelings are more to new to me than I can actually express in words, but it has been a long time since I felt that comfortable around a man since my husband. However, as many of you posted, the timing is not right and I will not compromise my integrity as a person. I have faith that God will guide me in the right direction and I am happy, in a way, to know that there is hope that I will feel those "feelings" again with another person, although this is just not the one to be feeling them with.
Heard she was offered Playboy as well.
Isn't this a sick country? Boy oh boy. Makes me ill.
oh but he did attend 4 yrs of school in Korea
x
"blacks not offered the same opportunities" is only

don't be sore about it....*lol*
Do not do anything else until you attend marriage counseling - sm
You owe it not only to the kids (who did not ask to be born into this) but you owe it to yourselves to seek marriage counseling before just deciding to up and divorce without seeking outside professional help. Until you can say you tried everything under the sun to make it work and can truly walk out the door with no undone and unsaid business with your husband you are not even ready for divorce. Give it a try. I have been down this road before (but for other reasons) and can tell you it turned us around. We are celebrating 25 years this September and have never been happier. Best of luck to you both.
I have seen them offered in VERY expensive housing markets -
I saw ads for 40-year mortgages offered when were on vacation in Hawaii a few years ago. My friend who lives in San Fran got one. The prices for houses in these markets is through the roof and it is the only way most people can afford anything at all. They are not offered any place I have seen where I live, which is AL. I agree with the poster below about maybe taking a loss on it with being in it for such a short period of time and wondering what the market might do and not having much equity in it when you go to sell. Remember to add in your closing costs because those are not cheap! I would just start calling around to banks. Most will be very eager to help you out. They love mortgages of any kind! :-)
Spiritual in other ways aside from God. Don't attend church.

Daughter wants to attend birthday party
My daughter is 10 and her friend will be 11. Her friend has been to our house numerous times and she is a SWEET girl. HOWEVER, her parents and their home is incredibly dirty. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a neat freak myself but their home is filfthy, as are they. Took their daughter home one day and they came outside, along with one of their younger sons who was in his underwear that looked soiled/brown/gray. Her mother seems nice enough but I get the feeling there is some sort of mental illness going on. Every time I've been around her I can tell she has major hygiene issues, built up plaque on her teeth and dirt under her nails, dirty clothes, etc. I'm not trying to be judgmental; I just don't want to allow my daughter to go to their house. Her friend is more than welcome here. I'm concerned this is going to possibly cause friction with the girls. I've talked with the mother of another friend in the group and she understands where I'm coming from, as she feels the same way. Wondering if any of you may have any suggestions for me. I know the girls are getting older and I'm sure my daughter's friend is realizing that her friends aren't allowed to her house, yet she can visit them. I really feel for her and I wonder how many girls will actually show for her party, yet I don't want to run the risk of my daughter coming home with lice or something.
my company offered me 10 yearly, is that low/fair?
Thanks in advance...it is probably low but I will still take it. Was just hoping someone else would share their info
thought you said you offered to or paid for your children's
if you had that kind of money, that does not seem to meet welfare criteria to me.
I offered up no excuses, simply said that ALL toddlers..
misbehave at some point in time. They are people like you and I and have bad days, like you and I.
I homeschool my daughter, but allow her to attend public school for the SM
social aspects. She is way ahead of her grade academically. Eventually, she will either be homeschooled exclusivelly or I will enroll her in a magnet school or alternative school.
I think in this day and age parents should plan a way for their kids to attend college (sm)
$1000 a month is nothing compared to what it actually takes to raise two kids.
What would you all do? My SIL is making my DH attend my nephew's HS grad in Texas this June...sm
We live in Illinois.
He would be taking my youngest son with him also. The total cost of the trip for the two of them would easily be $2000 since my DH does not get paid for taking time off work. If he takes this trip that would mean no vacation for me or my other two kids next year since that's pretty much all we can afford is one vacation a year. She is insisting her only brother (DH) be there at the actual ceremony which is on a Tuesday evening. Then afterwards they plan on going out to dinner to celebrate - no party that would be it.
I would rather we go the following week, drive the entire family and stay the week and celebrate the whole week with them. My son graduates high school in two years and I don't expect her to be at the ceremony for that. We probably wouldn't have enough tickets for her anyway.
DH doesn't have the guts to tell her "No" since she's laying the guilt trip pretty thick.
Do you think we are obligated to go to the ceremony? She has more than enough family members that live over there that could attend (grandparents, aunts, uncles, her other children).
Thanks for any input.
You need to send a wedding gift if you attend the wedding - sm
If possible you should drop it by the brides or grooms house, etc. so you don't have to take it to the wedding, and so they don't have to worry about transporting the gifts from the church or the reception. You should always send a wedding gift if you attend the wedding though.
it is the same in summer or
and we don't have fleas where i live - i was surprised when the vet told me this and said i dont need flea treatment for the cat and dogs.
we did do the oatmeal shampoo which didnt help.
and she only goes out in the backyard where we have no grass, only dirt. new housing and havent landscaped the backyard yet.
thanks for the ideas tho!
I am 37 and went through this the summer before
I have lumpy or fibrotic breasts too. A lump was found on the right side. I also had tender breasts with some pain once a while. The lump I had was excised and completely benign. I've been right where you are with two children and a husband that was worried to death. We got through it together and it turned out benign. I had three opinions all stating it needed to be biopsied. The images are to try to delineate the mass. You'll be in my prayers, but I decided to see a different surgeon because the surgeon that excised my mass had a terrible office staff. The surgeon I see now states that lots of women have lumps and that if they excised every lump from every breast they've palpated, there would be a heck of a lot of women walking around with surgical scars. It is better to be safe than sorry, but I wouldn't worry too much if I was you that this is a malignant mass. However, if God forbid it is, then you have found it early. Take care and God Bless. Feel free to e-mail me if you have other questions.
It has been summer here but
we've been under tornado watches and warnings (central Florida)for 2 weeks now. Even my children have to undergo tornado drills. We went out to eat last night for the first time in months and on the TV, all they were talking about was the severe tornado warning and watches. Brother, when I moved to FLA to get away from the cold, I did not know I was moving to the land of OZ! LOL. I'll switch back to cold for a bit as long as my son's grandma does not have to keep evacuating her mobile home down here!
oh summer!!
and thank you!
That was this past August and I can't wait to get in the Atlantic again!!
This morning it was 27 degrees, hopefully will warm up to 40 today. I know it is still way colder in other parts of the country but I'm sure staying in with the heater! :)
I still haven't spent a summer here, that pic was taken when we were over here visiting when my niece was born. I'm a little nervous about the humidity... but I hope it's not super super awful like ive heard...
Stay warm!
Last summer s/m
My daughter (age 17) and I stayed at the Hotel at Times Square. It used to be a Super 8. It's a couple of blocks from Times Square, Rockafeller (SP?) Center. There's also a Comfort Inn that's about a block closer to Times Square. Check the Apple Core web site. Have a great time. We saw a few plays, walked everywhere, and I never once didn't feel safe. We also took the subway down to Chinatown for lunch. I'm jealous.
Summer
Why not make him get a job at McDonalds or somewhere like that. Tell him if his grades don't go up that's what he has to look forward to for the rest of his life.
My kids paid their own insurance. If they didn't have the money for that then they didn't drive. They kept up the good student discount because they didn't want to pay the higher insurance rates.
We normally don't do too much over the summer - sm
but this one is quite busy so far. They have art day camp one week (June) and drama day camp (August) another. They will do swimming lessons too (2 weeks) if I ever get off my butt to sign them up. They have bikes they can ride, a trampoline in the backyard, a new slipe-n-slide to play with (Intex pool died this year, will get a real nice above-ground next year, we want to do it right so need to get our ducks in a row first), of couse my older daughter will try to be on-line all summer which is not happening. I am sure they will still complain of being bored when we are home of course. We have a weekend at the beach planned, a weekend camping and a weekend family reunion, of which the only thing costing us is the camping fees and food for each outing (DH get hotel points so staying for free at the hotels, yippee), and will probably have one more weekend (hopefully 3 nights instead of 2) at the beach in August, he is building up our points now so we can do that, so only weekend "vacations" for us this year. My DH is taking our younger daughter on his guys weekend to a car show as well. Our money is tight but I think the kids will have a fun and busy summer. I am trying to find time when I can visit my dad as well, but our schedule is so full don't know if it is going to work out, can only lean on everyone so much at work for time off, but as I never take time off normally they know in the summer I do want to have some fun with my kids. I usually go on working vacations but that has grown really old and no longer want to do that. Plan to relax more than usual this year!
I still like him, but I want him with Phyllis and Summer.
nm
This happened to us last summer..sm
We had no idea and then one morning we found six babies! Make sure you take the male rabbit out of the cage and away from the babies or he will kill them. Also, they are tiny now, but they grow quick and will need to be separated by 6-8 weeks old! I thought that was too young, but we had a vet come out and check them over and stated they will start to reproduce anytime after 6-8 weeks old! Sure enough at about 7 weeks the male babies were starting to show signs of...well you know! Anyway, we got them separated and kept them all. My kids loved watching them grow into adult bunnies. You have to put the males in separate cages or they will fight. We kept the mom and girl babies in one cage. Some females are okay with other females and some will need to be separated. Good luck and congrats!
It should be out next summer -- staring
Cameron Diaz or maybe Christina Applegate. LOL!
Summer reading
I'm currently reading a great book on Einstein. It was published in 2007, after all of his papers finally became public. Author is Walter Isaacson, and it's called: EINSTEIN - HIS LIFE AND UNIVERSE. He also wrote BENJAMIN FRANKLIN - AN AMERICAN LIFE, which I may read next. Funny how as one gets older, fiction often is less interesting than real life.
Many, many people were involved in getting the details of Einstein's life and the science right, and even HS science teachers were brought in to bring the scientific explanations down to high school level so we'd all have a chance of understanding it. It's 551 pages long, plus an additional 125 pages of credits! It starts out with a few pages describing the "main characters" in the book. I'm just getting started, but I can tell it's going to be fascinating.
Tell me what you are reading this summer
I love to read. Anything and everything.
But!
I lost my reading muse awhile back and can't seem to find it.
And!
When I had it I almost read 24/7.
Nora Roberts/JD. Robb, Bea Small, Linda Howard, Karen Marie Moning, Janet Chapman, Kristin Hannah *old books*, and many, many more.
So, what you're reading, what you've read and what you want to read.
Well, I DID lose 10 lbs. this summer without even trying-
That's about the only good thing that's come of all this. The rest sucks.

Plans for the Summer
One of the weeks in July my daughter's friend is coming up from Florida to spend the week. We plan on going on day trips to a water park, the beach, ect. Hopefully in late July or August our family and our best friends' family are going to go to the Jersey Shore or Maine (we haven't decided yet). We had planned on a bigger vacation to Florida, Mexico or a cruise, but the money held us back this year.
in summer camps
Send him to camp. This is puberty. He is not going to discuss it with anybody. Send him to a camp where he will feel normal instead of pointing out that hates. Heck I had public school cafeterias, crowds, amusement parks, vomiting in public. He sounds so normal to me!
Summer Vacation
We plan on going to either the Jersey Shore or Maine for a week this Summer. I've never been to either place even though we live in NY State and it's within a reasonable driving distance. Also, my daughter's friend is visiting from Florida, and we'll also take a lot of day trips that week to keep her entertained.
10 weeks of summer
We have always scheduled 5 weeks of the summer for the kids and they get to choose 5 weeks for themselves. I guess we are the weird ones...
Two summer colds so far. sm
I'm WAY too old to get pregnant, but don't you worry. Rather than be anxious, go see your OB/GYN and he/she can reassure you that a cold is a cold.
A few years ago, I went to a new gynecologist with a change of insurance, and on the questionnaire for new patients, there was a question: "What method of birth control do you use?" I wrote down, "Sterility, old age and total abstinence." The nurse was ROTFL!
BTW, congratulations on your new pregnancy and coming beautiful, healthy baby. :)
We have the same trouble with ants in the summer.
around the areas you think they are coming in. The only thing is if you have a small child, this may pose a risk of them getting into if you place it low enough. You could also try sprinkling it outside around your home.
It's going to be a long summer. I need advice....sm
on how to handle the neighborhood bully. He's 11 years old and probably weighs 250 pounds. He's very immature and very pushy and overbearing with the other kids in the neighborhood. We live in a townhouse and there are 13 townhouses in this particular area. My daughter is 9. There are 4 girls and 3 boys, all ranging in age from 4 to 13. We have lived here for 2 years and have never had any problems until the bully moved in. At first he was very nice but I guess he is getting comfortable now and his true colors are coming out. We had an incident last night and I had to go out and take care of it. His mother wasn't home at the time and as soon as she got home she marched right over to my apt. demanding to know "what was going on." After my conversation with her I began to understand why the bully is like he is. Anyway, I have told my daughter she has to stay in front of our townhouses and is not to go anywhere else. The other kids are welcome to come here and play but not the bully. If I have to I will enroll her in something part-time for the summer. It makes me mad that you have to punish the good kids because of 1 bad egg. I told the mother it was a shame that the rest of the neighborhood had to pay the price because of the way her son acted. Of course, she had every excuse in the world for his behavior but I think it just boils down to lack of discipline and lack of interest on the parents' part. He is going to be home unsupervised all summer along with a little 5-year-old brother that the mother is getting for the summer. And 2 girls are also going to be home all day unsupervised. One is 13 and the other 8 but they too are very immature for their age. I'm just aggravated. What is wrong with today's parents?
I think it is too young to be left alone all day during the summer with a ...sm
5-year-old. There will also be 2 girls, ages 13 and 8, left alone all day as well. They are neighbors so it should be interesting. I am the only mother home during the day but I'm not getting involved. I'm taking care of mine. I have to be able to work without constant drama during the day. I may let my daughter go somewhere part-time just to have something to do and not be so bored. This is her first summer home (I worked in an office past 2 summers) and I want her to be able to enjoy it. Things will get better. Time will take care of a lot of it....I hope.
