Maybe a mini-makeover would
give you a confidence boost. Never hurts to go to a highly recommended hair stylist and see what they might suggest to update your look. You could go to one where they do makeup also. Ulta does both.
I love to watch What Not to Wear to see how big a change can be made and to get ideas. Sometimes the difference is huge, and they don't call it "being on the market" for nothing, LOL.
I saw a lady on one of those makeover shows and
she had her hair cut into a really great style that made her two tone hair look really trendy. They did put a third color in her hair. She had longer hair than you but perhaps you can have the same thing done to yours only shorter. They layered her hair.
Has anyone used the 6 week body makeover and what
weight, etc.
How about a gift certficate for a makeover!
Great haircut, new makeup. Let him eat his heart out! The jerk.
Ty Pennington on Extreme Home Makeover and also
love Steve Doocey and Brian Kilmead on Fox and Friends. Really miss E.D. Hill in the morning!
I am currently on Dave Ramsey's
program and just paid off my 1st bill yesterday. Everything he says makes complete sense. It took a while to build up my 1st emergency fund, but it really is not as hard as you think if you put your mind to it and stick to the plan.
Try Dave Ramsey
After you tell him (and you HAVE to tell him!) check out Dave Ramsey. He has a show on TV every night at 8 p.m. (central) on the Fox Business channel if you have cable, or check out his book from the library, The Total Money Makeover. He teaches you how to plan a budget and work TOGETHER with the finances, one of his most important techniques, and living within your income. In this economy we are all struggling--your biggest mistake was trying to keep it from him.
You must be an follower of Dave Ramsey. That guy is the best!!!
nm.
According to Dave Ramsey, my hero...sm
He says if you have cards you have paid off or no longer use, you need to call and write the credit card company and let them know that you want the account closed. And that you need to keep checking with those institutions to make sure they have actually done what you asked them to do. IMO, I would do the same thing..cancel them completely and then cut them up to boot. Hope this helps.
LOL, they have been looking for Dave at my house, too, he must move a lot! :-) nm

RE: Has anyone every heard of Dave Ramsey - See message
He has a program called Total Money Makeover. Has anyone ever tried it?? Thanks!
I agree with this poster and so does Dave Ramsey. sm
Get your hands on anything of his and follow the recommendations. He has helped me greatly. As Reality Check says, and I agree, our economy is in dire straits and not having any financial worries will be worth the effort to get there.
Good luck to you and your wife.
go see Meet Dave with Eddie Murphy.
The kids will love it - and so will you. He played it so well! Cracked me up...several times.
Dave is my Baby Daddy who owes $27K,
that's probably me calling....sorry.
I've seen Dave Ramsey on Fox News
but never got a chance to try to find his web site. I will though, hopefully sooner than later.
We had our dream car a couple years ago. My favorite color (blue) with blue interior and a very large luxurious car that got unbelievable 30 mpg. It was the first time we spent more than $1000 on a car except when I had a brand new Horizon back in the ྌs. We loved that car, only 50,000 miles on it, thought it would last us forever, but little did we know it was in a flood. We started smelling a musty smell coming from the trunk when summer rolled around and 3 years later, it was trash, all rotted out underneath, nothing electrical worked on it. Even though it had all those things wrong with it, I still loved it, but it had to go to the graveyard. Broke my heart. (They don't make that car anymore).
That same year, a friend gave us a calendar that had daily numbers on it. If the number came up on a certain day, you would win those $$ for that day. December 29, our number came up and we won $100. The same day, DH bought a car with a blown engine for $100 without knowing he had won the $100 from the calendar. So, in reality, we had a free car. We pulled the engine from my blue baby and put it in the $100 car and it lasted 4 years until the windshield and transmission started to go.
We are still going to save the engine from my blue baby because it still has a way to go to hit 100K just in case this other car has engine problems. Then, if not, we will probably sell the engine later on to get a few extra dollars needed.
I've been working on a budget since last year that I downloaded from MS and was surprised to see that we rarely have any $$ in most of the columns, but insurance and taxes are eating us alive. No way to get out from under all the myriad taxes (federal, state, local, property, school, township, breathing, emergency, sales, etc.) and insurances (health, home, car, disability, vision, life, etc.).

How much money rasied for Katrina, how much money for the diasters due to the tidal waves and what?
Every single one of them have had some smoke around it with the money not getting to where it was supposed to go. I did not contribute, I hardly watched, was not caught up again as I have seen things like this before. They should give a all you can give benefit for Darfur where people are being massacared each and every day. Genocide going on there each and every day. I have not seen any benefits to help them out yet.
Total shock
That's all I have to say.
I am in total agreement with you.
I have been working today and just thinking about not ever having to do any business with anyone who talks like the ones I have done today. I laughed the other day when 1 on here asked when did she go from Transcriptionist to interpreter. You may not know this, but years ago we got a difficulty factor, just for dictators like we have to do day after day now, unbelievable, isn't it? None of those dictators could even approach what we hear now. It is irritating. Some days I have taken off a little early when I know I am having 1 after the other, can make up that time another day- just too irritating and getting on my nerves to continue.
I am a total believer and do believe that
kids see things before they are old enough to think they are not supposed to. I still will smell my dad's aftershave every so often. I just think of it as he is coming around to see how I am doing. (My BF thinks I am crazy by the way.)
total witch
you are a stalker and i am reporting you
Thanks. I am total IC and work for one company..sm
and I have worked for them for 3 years. I do have a FED ID #, as my employer requested that I have one when I first started. Hence, I also have a business name, but I file under my SS# and my personal name, not my business. I thought maybe that would make a difference. I still have the letter, as I keep all of that stuff *just in case.* I know that being an IC, we are *suppose* to file quarterly and I did read somewhere that there may be fines involved if you don't, so I did not think too much about it when it happened. I file in April and everything is in their officed prior to the 15th, so that could not be a reason why the fine, either. Needless to say, I am confused. Maybe I will seek out an accountant this year and leave all that stuff in their hands. It is getting to be a drag and too time consuming for me anyway. just trying to save a buck, even though I know it is deductible. thanks for answering me. I appreciate it.
My stepmother and father (a total man's man)
just had their bathroom remodeled and had a big sunken tub put in just so he could take baths. He is 64 and in very good health, but finally realized how good a tub soak feels. My step-mom tends to light candles for him and add bubbles and he loves everybit of it. BTW, she often joins him as well. they also have weekly at home massages by a masseuse. Men need to slow down a little sometimes and enjoy the gentler things in life.
This Southern Gal is in total agreement with you! Nothing else need be said.

This will be total and much needed catharsis....
I am almost 54 years old and the permeating thought in my brain is that I am "a monstrosity," something my mother called my sister and I because we were tall. My father is still alive at 86 and says about some "pretty little thing." THAT drives me INSANE because I am not. He asks when I am going to play piano for him, and I laugh, but I think, "Never, because you have always criticized me." Still does. God help us all. That's the thing that has totally messed up my brain. I am a "monstrosity" and will never be a "pretty little thing." There. Now I have said it on the internet.
But, FYI, I am not a tall humongous woman, I am just tall and not a "pretty little thing." There, I typed it and that's almost like saying it out loud.
This thread ROX!
My husbsand is a total embarrasement
He thinks boxer shorts are shorts to wear at home when company comes over.
I bought him a nice denim lined shirt/jacket that he took to our seamstress and had 2" round buttons to replace the "normal" looking buttons. I swear, all he needs now is a Tonka Truck to complete the look of a properly dressed 2 year old.
HELP!!!! I think things need to start vanishing when I do laundry!
Those total sons of you-know-whats.
My situation was not QUITE the same.... It turned out I was the other woman; the guy I was dating and thought I was exclusive with turned out to have a fiance he didn't bother to tell me about. Looking back, there were a few hinky things I should have noticed, but they weren't the usual things, so I was thrown off my guard.
I do have a very good male friend whom I call my adopted big brother. (He's married, has been for decades, and his wife is aware that we are friends/business associates.) I asked him flat-out why men cheat, and he said (a) because they can, and (b) the thrill of the chase, or some bullhockey like that, that we testosterone-deficient females can't seem to understand, I guess. He also bluntly told me that I probably was not the only one, i.e. the only "other woman." I would not be surprised if that were true, but I never actually found out, since the SOB (and I do NOT mean 'short of breath') married the fiance and left town.
My best friend put it rather succinctly, when we were discussing another topic:
Men don't change, and women just learn to be abused gracefully. (Because this too is a form of abuse.)
But her money is her money to spend as she pleases -
I don't understand how you can think it is wrong for her to spend whatever she wants to on whatever she buys. It is their personal money they spend. It is not like they are saying give me those shoes and add it to the taxpayer's bill.
And in all actuality, they are saying spend, spend, spend to get the economy going.
I am sorry, I am jealous that some people still have plenty of money to spend and I don't, but I don't expect those people to quit spending just because I had to.
Aw heck, I'm a total hick and even I know to call...
on an RSVP to let them know that they can count me in or out. It just seems like one of those common courtesy things...at least call whoever to let them know you got the invite for sure and it wasn't lost in the mail.
Smaller total amount of more feedings?
Have you tried feeding him more than 2-3 times a day and just putting a smaller overall amount in the dish? He might think he's actually getting more.
I am white but my hair is a total 'fro!
Always has been and I can relate to your distress! I would use any conditioner but only lightly rinse it out after shampoo. I also use a wet my hair with a spray bottle of water and use a little bit of conditioner straight on my hair before combing it out...and I always use a pick--just like you would if you got a perm or had an afro. Seriously! The bigger and wider the teeth, the easier it is. Or, if you absolutely hate the idea of a pick, use a vent brush. The trick is to not comb through or brush out dry curly hair because it will only frizz and boof, know what I'm sayin? If a hairdryer is necessary, like for wintertime, get a diffuser so no direct blast of air hits the hair because it will frizz out.
During my school years, a braid or ponytail was my best friend. I wish I could do it now but all I can manage are Pippi-Longstocking braids and they look kinda gay on a 35-year-old chick.
you need to buy the brush to put it on, total price for the first time is $28
you can apply it in two different ways, one way in which you let your moisturizer dry and the put it on and another is use a bit of moisturizer to get that "dewy" look. Also you should always start off with less (at least with our brand) because it is layerable for a fuller-coverage. Also there are 6 different shades to choose from so you should be able to find a perfect match.
I saw it. A total hoot. My teenagers loved it
and so did I.
I was a total cougar til my prey caught ME, lol!
My boyfriend is YEARS younger than I am. Started as a one nighter that turned into a 4-day sleepover...I thought he was totally hot but also totally dumb as a pet rock.
Fast forward 2 years...He's sitting on my couch watching the news, and we've been living together 1-1/2 years. He's still totally hot, but not at all dumb as I had initially suspected and, in fact, handles our finances, etc.
Yeah...being a cougar totally rocked, but it turned out even sweeter than I expected when my prey caught ME!!!
Takes a total of about 10 seconds to click
on every site. I sincerely hope anyone that visits this site would want to help all of them.
I am in total agreement. 13 years old and wanting to date - no way!!..
One of the problems is, as a previous poster write, is DRAMA. Some girls live for the DRAMA (i come from a family of six girls). These kids (but not all) want to and in some ways are forced to grow up too danged fast and it can lead to life-long problems if they do not have a strong mom/dad or just an extended strong family support system. The media has played and contuinues to play a role in the evolution of our teenagers as well (MTV, etc). That is why it is important to keep these kids busy and involved in activities because it is helpful,. JMO..
The Illusionist - total chick flick! Great movie!
nm
Ooooooo! That's an awesome theory! I'm a total Lost freak too. SM
I can't believe I missed this thread!
Make your own income, hire a plumber. Total unnecessary. Men are useless in the family plan.

This is total BS ! Every policy policy must have a beneficiary!..nm
Even one's bank accounts have a beneficiary named!
You are right on the money here...
What great advice!!! I too did a lot of what you have listed in your post. It worked!!! When rules/expectations are in black and white, it's pretty hard to argue about it...
My 2 teens do their own laundry, clean the kitchen after supper, clean their bathroom, and now that they both work, buy the majority of their "things."
The key, I believe, is responsibility. Kids thrive with responsibility. They may moan and groan about it, but in reality, they thrive with rules and responsibility. Good luck!!!
She is right on the money about that - sm
As I said in my post above. The discipline at our former (private) school was a joke. Luckily the majority of the kids at this school are good kids, but there are a few bad apples that would never be allowed to get away with what is tolerated at this school. The nutcase (or strangler) in my daughter's former class at the private school would have been expelled by now from a public school. Amazing what they will put up with for $6K a year and an alumni mother. Oh, and of course they have no type of a counselor or psychiatrist at the private school, no nurse even. They had a real cow when Jenny was in chemo and dealing with that. But that is another story.
Money.
Money or a gift certificate to whatever craft store they shop at when they get supplies for the kids. You can also donate money to the teachers "account" at school and it's tax deductible.
Where to put my money
I am selling my house and moving overseas. I will have between 250,000 and 275,000 after agent fees and loan pay off. I want to take about 50,000 and put in a money market account attached to my checking and savings accounts for easy access for things as I need them and for unforeseen expenses.
I don't know how best to use the other approximately $200,000. I will not have a job. My only income right now will be about $1150 a month from my rental property. I would like to invest my other $200,000 and live on the interest combined with my rental income. What is the best return I am looking at?
Of course I know I need to talk to my accountant and maybe hire a financial adviser but I'd like to hear some thoughts and get some direction so I can research it a bit myself.
5% for a money market is okay but is there a better way to structure this? In a couple of years I may want to use this $200,000 to purchase a home or business so it can't be away for good but 3-5 years is okay.
I keep getting told about going offshore because I won't have to pay taxes on the interest and with internet banking it is easy to transfer funds and make payments.
Of course you can tell I am a novice but I would like to start researching my best options. Any advice?
Money - Should I be mad or not?
Suppose you had a friend who was very nice all the time, to everyone, can't stand to hear anyone say an unkind word about anyone. Suppose this friend had come crying to you several times over a period of a couple of months with financial difficulties, and rather than loan them the money (which would prolong the difficulty in my opinion), you just gave it to them to help them get caught up. It was a necessity and children involved, etc.. So you helped them....anyway...
What if after that, it became a regular monthly, and sometimes semi-monthly event, where there was some major issue of why this person needs money, you figured they must really be having a hard time, felt sorry for the children, and helped a couple more times.
It is my feeling that when you give someone something, it is theirs, so you shouldn't even ask what they did with it. But suppose now you find out that they have purchased something fairly expensive ($400) that is a completely unnecessary luxury item (game), that they had to have purchased during the timeframe you were helping them, and mentioned some other things they have been doing recently - things that you yourself can't even afford to do!! Would you feel you had a right to be upset or would you just say to yourself that they have a right to have a life and once they had money, to spend it how they want? This happened to me recently, and while I have decided not to give them any more money, I am not sure if I should be angry or not?
Boy, that's a lot of money. I think about that old man in WV? who won
xx
Well, let me see, about money
I have been given money beyond my wildest dreams, from money I got after being outsourced 6 years from a previous employer, over 100,000 (where did it come from?, got retirement when I left there to money given to me by family member and then after this person's death, sold property left to me by them, sold a property I had before this one- the main thing though and I have said this time and time again- I try my best to help others out, choose either animals or people, whatever touches my heart. This Christmas picked some people out from Craigs List and did things for them. I do not do to get because my heart is just like that but things are always coming to me. My mother told me as a child I was like this, giving and I really believe it just comes back- Karma.
Money...
First of all, I can't understand why you would give him money...secondly, he probably is getting it from another woman. Guess you should just deal with it, it's really not any of your business where the money's coming from...are you engaged or otherwise committed to one another?
Boy, do I need the money
I might not receive it as I made just under $3000.00. The rest of my income was around $11000.00 from SSD. I had two major surgeries last year, and being an IC, have no benefits.
Now, if people in my income level don't need the refund more than the upper limit that was set, I don't know who does! Why in the world they would need it is ridiculous. I can definitely use it for bills, or better yet....FOOD!!
The money came from
my father- I was his only next of kin- no siblings living on my side or father's side, his wife not living. My son and his family had already received close to $100,000 from my father earlier.
you had money for that
the possibility of being on welfare? seems to me welfare wouldn't even have been a possibility if you had money for her college tuition plus. probably could have dropped a job or two. ?
