DIL who returns everything! sm

In Reply to: difficult because - I am not going to buy that

My husband thought it was "me" so I made him pick out the gift, then the usual phone call came, "Where did you get this, I hate to insult you but I'd rather return it and get something else." Now I shop and include the slip from where I got it. I can't take it anymore. I have gotten things I hang in my closet with the tags on because I know the person went out of their way to shop for it. I am not an "old hag" who hates being the MIL. I think it's because she's from a large family and her mom does the same thing, she opens a gift by peeling off a little of the label and not finishing opening and wanting to return it. Watch her do this every time. Poor lady. I think I understand it all but it is very insulting. At any rate, I vented, so now I feel better. Still buy out of love, just leave the tags on. I don't want to know anymore! I take great care in matching things up and they certainly don't need the cash, so it's not that. Just a family trait. Mine is to keep things forever and never, never regift or exchange. Strange as I am, that's me! Please don't flame me, it's the holidays!!

Returns
I had the same thing happen at WalMart with my teenage son. He bought 2 music CDs and opened them when we got to the car. They were both empty! We went right back in to service desk. They were very nice and let us exchange without any problems (although I'm wondering if my son had been alone if they would have been quite so trusting). Security came over and said they'd had a huge theft of CDs and were aware of the problem. All in all, they were very nice about it. I'd take the ink back -- the most they can say is NO, right?
Hope your son returns soon
