Costochondritis

I went to the doctor today w/aching in my sternum and collar bone and general chest area. (Mostly sternum) When I pick up something it feels like all the muscles in there are just sore or something. Anyways they said it sounds like inflammation. Gave me an anti-inflammatory. I saw a forum on the internet that had people that had it and a lot of them said they worked at computers all day. They said the slumping and using your arms and hands can cause it. Has anyone ever had this? I also mowed Monday and did a lot of steering in a small area of my lawn, and I have to pick up on my 40 something pound Beagle when I give her a bath. So I don't know something did it. I have had these symptoms before. It is like a flareup. I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten this?

Anyone with costochondritis?
What are your symptoms, do you have problems each and every day, what works for this, if anything, tell me a little about what you go through, believe I have but not 100% sure, yet. Thanks.
Costochondritis
If you have no lesions or blistering patches on your rib cage, then it likely is costochondritis, an inflammation of the cartilage between each rib. Rest, ice packs, and anti-inflammatories should help. It sometimes takes a couple of weeks of this treatment to feel better.
Costochondritis
Sorry I didn't get back to you.
It started on Tuesday of last week, and I have had episodes of it before but not this bad. I was on the riding mower Monday evening and the steering was hard to turn and I was mowing a small area so I was constantly turning the wheel back and forth. Then I went and cleaned the beagle's kennels and fed them. I looked and my house beagle who stays inside was rolling in the dirt outside. I said Sh!t, as tired as I am I have to go bathe you. She weighs 43 pounds and I have to pick her up and put her in the tub. After all that I guess it flared up. The next day it started in the bottom base of my sternum and worked its way up all the way by Wednesday. By Thursday it had moved up to my collar bone. I had an appointment with the doc Thursday and she examined me and said she believed it was costochondritis. I said that is what I thought too. Friday my upper stomach and ribs felt like I had done 100 situps. They were so sore and the muscles in my upper stomach too. It is somewhat better but still there. I have a bad habit too of slouching at the computer. That probably plays a role in it I am sure.
Where is your pain with yours, in the same areas?
It sounds like costochondritis to me....sm
I have had rib pain and sternum pain that is tender to touch too. I didn't go to the doctor. It went away. But that is what I figured it was, costochondritis.
Because of costochondritis's long symptomatic duration,
one would rightfully be concerned that it must be cardiac in origin. When a patient has lingering pain in their sternum, Aleve, alternating wtih Tylenol, the the clock, for a few weeks should alleviate it. If it hasn't and your PCP still seems not too concerned, get a cardio work-up just to be sure -- especially if you are a woman; heart disease STILL goes undetected more often in women than men.
Curious girl, you asked about costochondritis and
I asked you some questions and never heard anything back on this, like how long have you had, etc.
