Cool pics and ideas. We grew our

tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets last year, but not upside down. This year, we have  50(!) tomato plants growing. Think DH went a little too far.

I like the other idea I saw about using garbage bags, too. I wonder how that went. We might try that with a couple plants; and I also like using the hanging planters. I have plenty of those left over from flowers.

The idea of putting basil in the top is also a good idea, but I'm wondering if the tomatoes growing upright after a while would shade out the basil. Do you know?

Nikon Cool Pix (pics?) digital
Got a Nikon from my husband last Christmas and I love it.  It is easy to work, is digital, software is simple, camera is small, but not too small.  Pixels are terrific and the features are many.  I would recommend it.  It is on sale most of the time at Costco.  The add on memory is fairly affordable too and I love to just keep the camera with us and add pictures until I have free time to upload them.  Another thing I love about is that the battery stays charged for a long, long time.  It takes beautiful pictures too!
I have cousins that grew up there
The lakes down there are beautiful going from Chatta into Guntersville. I probably did not appreciate it much as a child but a few years ago took my father on trip there and was blown away by the scenery.
I grew up and lived in PA

until I made a few moves down south a few years back and moved to Ohio a year ago.  I am about 45 minutes now from my hometown in PA, but my hometown in PA is just 45 minutes away from Pittsburgh.  We could be close enough to be neighbors!

We grew up going to the same church
until we were about 11 or so. He moved and I didn't see him again until my senior year of school when he moved back into our home town. He looked me up and we started dating. We got married when I graduated high school and we will have been married for 36 years in June of this year. I was 19 and he was 21.
Not sure about that, but I grew up on scrapple
Scrapple contains basically what you mentioned and it's pretty darn good. It's all good meat, but it's basically scraps, hence the name.

I don't mind Spam either, at least when it's fried.

My son won't even try Spam, but not because of Monty Python. He won't eat it because of the movie Waterworld where they were throwing it out to the masses of people on the boat and the cans were marked Smeat! LOL!

Every death comes in 3s. I grew up with that saying.

It does turn out to be true in a lot of families. So...we have Ed McMahnon (sp), Farrah, and now Michael. If no one died within the next couple days (I think that is also 3),  it should be okay.

Dang! I haven't felt this bad since Elvis died.

I grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee, and
didn't move until I was 17, just in time for senior year of HS, thank you very much.

When I went back for my 20-year reunion, I was one of the very few who left. Most people, like 98%, were living in suburbs of Milwaukee still! Yet I, one of the least adventurous people ever born, was now living 1000 miles away, in the South. Unbelievable.
I am soooo glad I grew up when I did
This comes from an older voice but I had a close friend in high school. I used to visit in her home and had no idea that this girl only owned 1 blouse. She told me years later how poor she was and she washed that 1 blouse out every night and wore to school the next day = this was in high school. I still have this friend to this day, 40 something years later and so glad I was not so superficial as to just like someone for what they had or did not have.
I grew up with fire ants and believe me sm
You KNOW when you've been bitten. They aren't called fire ants for nothing. We do think it might be insect(s) from the tree we bought (see post "something occurred to us").
grew up in St. Albans, mom now lives in
Hurricane, used to go to Point Pleasant all the time for Sunday drives.  Wanted to see that movie but haven't gotten around to it.  I am old enough to remember the Marshall plane crash - couldn't bring myself to see it.
No kids here, but I grew up w/grandparents.

They actually lived in our childhood home with us.  Our mother was a single parent trying to get off welfare back in the 60s...going to night school to become an LPN and rearin' the 5 of us during the day.  I have no doubt her parents saved her tuckas by doing all they did for her (and us!) back then.  I have nothing but incredibly fond memories and miss them all immensely.

There's something to be said for families that pull together like that when times are tough, or even not so tough.  Some days I regret not having one of my own, but I'm just waaaay too selfish and I know I'd make a horrible parent.  Plus, I have no social support at all and I would be 100% on my own...certainly not the ideal way to raise a kid or two.

Fantastic assets grandparents can be...so long as they're not criminals or anything.

I have pics somewhere...let me see
if I can find one. I can only seem to find one where the dogs are in it only incidentally, but here it is anyway--oh, and the cutest kid in the whole world about 1.5 years ago--but your niece runs a close second!!! :o)
I grew up in the town of Catskill, right next to the river.
I miss thoore brisk mornings.
I grew up on Tijuana Brass and Booker T and the MGs.
Absolutely love those groups!

Also Charlie Pride (now that's embarrassing).
Saw pics in a magazine once....where are you?
!
All for pics and time
Love pictures of any kind and love visits or being invited to dine with them. Everyone is just too busy these days. Money and gifts not important as quality time. My best Christmas gift ever was when my two kids got together with their kids and did a family picture at the mall, They usually do not see each other except at holidays, so them getting the two families together for a picture was wonderful.
baby pics

On some level, the magazine that buys them will probably earn their $$ back.  $300k is not all that much and there are a lot of Palin supporters out there who will buy the magazine.

Here's a issue that kept cropping up in my mind during the election when all of the hubbub was going around after it was announced that she was pregnant.  The conservative right wing was so proud of her for keeping her child and not terminating the pregnancy (hello, choice) and yet there was no outrage from the conservatives that this 17-year-old child had been having sex without the consecration of marriage.

I just found it a little odd and more than a little hypocritical.

I'll have to get some more pics of him
Our first night was a little rough, having to get used to being a big boy now!

My other dog, Gizmo, is a shitzu chihuahua cross, and he's 2 years old. He hasn't quite warmed up to Radar yet. I think all the yipping and what not is getting on his nerves LOL. He did come check him out this morning though when he started hollering. I thought that was cute.

Does anyone watch Cesar Milan? I absolutely love that show! I'm learning a lot from it!
Can you post pics on here? Trying ?

Sherri...I just grew a great crop of catnip (sm)
If you want to e-mail me (just click on my name there) your addy, I'd be happy to send you an envelope of fresh picked stuff!  My old toothless cat still loves it and it gets him so buzzed he just rolls around in his own drool for a good 20 minutes and then he swats at flies that aren't there!  Good stuff, grown in Maine, 100% pesticide free!  You have my word that it's safe!
Easy! I grew up on quick tomato sauces.
It's very simple, and I do it without a recipe. I do my "light" sauce without meat in a very large pan, but you can do it in a medium to large pot.

I heat the pan over medium heat, I put several "glugs" of olive oil, probably a little less than a quarter cup. Toss in a clove of finely diced garlic (or more if you like), and about a half of a large onion finely diced. Saute for just a bit on medium heat to get everything softened and translucent, but not browned. Toss in tomatoes, either 4-6 cups of diced peeled and seeded fresh tomatoes, or one large can of crushed tomatoes. Add two or three leaves of chopped fresh basil, or about a tablespoon of dried basil. Let it all simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes (longer if using fresh tomatoes), and that's the very basic tomato sauce. I add salt to taste only at the end after it's reduced a bit. You can cook it longer if you like it thicker.

I vary it based on what how I'm using it. I sometimes add mushrooms or peppers, or a little hot pepper flakes to spice it up. If I'm using it with meat, I also add a little wine. Occasionally, the tomatoes might be just a little on the acid side, and then I'll throw in a pinch or two of sugar to cut that.

I don't use much sauce on my pasta or on meat, just a little bit to coat it and a bit more to top it to make it pretty. My grandmother and all of our Italian neighbors used these sauces pretty sparingly by American standards. I think in this country, we tend to really slather on the spaghetti sauce, so this recipe may not make as much as you want. If you want more, you can easily double or triple it.
I grew up in FL, too, and we got these every couple of years, no permission slips. sm
I forget who did it, but it was one of the service organizations in town. The Lions Club did the hearing tests, somebody else did vision. They do it as a service to those families who either can't afford the exam or are just ignorant to the fact that it should be done. There's nothing invasive about it, it's a service to the community. I understand your kid has a special situation, but save your energy for something bigger.
I have no idea what the ariticle about the pics said.
I agree with the above post...lucky you. Even if it is just lucky to see them. Was this by chance on the Creeper Trail? I think that is only in VA but not sure.
couple more pics of Lakoda

i wish more people could post pics!
I always look and admire them. May not always comment but I love them like it sounds like you do!!
Hot mail change and no pics
My hotmail email account sometimes changes the way it looks with upgrades or whatever they are doingl.  Ever since the last time, when someone sends me an email with a picture in it (not an attachment), the pictures are blank.  What can I do?
I have taken pics from previous gatherings
and bought cute pic holders and (like at Claire's and put the pic along with the gift care on that. Guess that would be more for girls, but for boys you, depeneding on their age and likes, you could put it in a baseball cap or something like that.
Posting your pics over internet
ST. LOUIS – It's an international mystery: How did a Missouri family's Christmas card photo end up in the Czech Republic, splashed across a huge storefront advertisement? Danielle Smith said Wednesday that the photo taken of her family last year got sent to family and friends, and was posted on her blog and a few social networking sites. The photo showed her and her husband Jeff holding their two young children.

About 10 days ago, one of Smith's college friends was driving through Prague when he spotted their huge smiling faces in the window of a store specializing in Europeann food. He snapped a few pictures and sent them to a flabbergasted Smith.

"It's a life-size picture in a grocery store window in Prague — my Christmas card photo!" said Smith, 36, who lives in the St. Louis suburb of O'Fallon.

Mario Bertuccio, who owns the Grazie store in Prague, said the photo was from the Internet. Details were sparse, but he said he thought it was computer-generated. When told it was a real photo — of a real family — he said he started taking steps to remove it.

"We'll be happy to write an e-mail with our apology," said Bertuccio, who said he would send the Smiths a bottle of good wine if they lived in his eastern European country.

The Smiths and photographer Gina Kelly hadn't authorized anyone to use the pictures. Kelly said she has asked a professional photographers' organization to help figure out how her image wound up in Prague.

Smith has gotten 180,000 hits to her Web site since she recently posted the story about the well-traveled snapshot. She said the photo wasn't used in an unseemly manner, it was just used to tell potential shoppers about the store's delivery service.

Smith said next time she posts a photo on the Internet, she's going to lower the resolution or add an electronic watermark to make it hard to reproduce.

"This story doesn't frighten me, but the potential frightens me," Smith said.

oooh, the Pine Barrens. Is that near Burlington? (grew up in North J)

Almost all men look at porn! They love lesbian pics
I reall wouldn't worry about it! It's a billion $ industry - paid for by men of all ages and walk of life. Even if the don't buy porn I guarantee they love looking at beatuiful women in the grocery store or at church!

Adult porn is legal. It's not criminal to look it - I don't see what that has to do with his job! Every model/actress has documentation of her dob and government issued ID on file with the producer. The FBI can inspect these records at any time. Look at any "big" soft porn site (hustler, playboy, penthouse) and click on 2257 diclaimer.

I really wouldn't worry about it. I disagree with the above poster that it ruins lives!!!
Men buy printed porn, call phone sex lines, and view porn on the net simply to get off. It has nothing to do with an addiction or ruining his life! Even what we think of "kinky" may simply be a harlmess fetish/fantasy. He may not want to admit to his wife that he likes wearing women's panties, or that he loves women in fish net stockings. So he buys a mag for $10 and spends $20 on phone sex line or a web cam girl and gets to live it for 15 minutes.

This is me but I would rather have my traveling husband or my son in college look at Hustler and call a phone sex line than sleep with a woman and catch something nasty! I wouldn't want to discuss it with them over breakfast, but I wouldn't worry about it! :)

Porn sites are high risk for viruses - I would be more concerned about getting good anti-virus software on his computer.
Of course, on the flip side, during Gay Days, there were pics

with their wankies hanging out. American Family Association went in undercover and took a LOT of pics much like this.  The problem...DisneyWorld treated it just like any other day and parents were bringing their entire families in the park only to find out once inside what their children were being subjected to.  There was nothing posted ahead of time or during Gay Days that would have forewarned heterosexuals of the week long event.  My understanding is that DisneyWorld still hosts Gay Days, but now announce prior to and during the event so heterosexuals, heterosexual parents raising their children are aware.

This is not false information, it is absolutely truthful, so it has nothing to do with my personal opinion.

I'm always ready to share pics of my dogs..sm
I'm going to be in real trouble when I have grandkids if I'm this crazy over my dogs - I do have two granddogs - Golden Retrievers, but no pictures of them to share at the moment.
Hmmm, actually don't think she needs Idol, after seeing those pics, Playboy will be calling her,

If you can upload your pics, share with us your pooches and kitties!!! nm

Looking at holiday pics, I am so disappointed in my double chin. sm
Any ideas how to get rid of this fat bag around my chin/neck area?  Do you just have to lose a lot of weight for it to decrease?  I am obese at 180 lbs, 5Ɗ".  But boy it just looks horrible in pics.  It bothers me more than the actual overall weight does.  Guess diet is in for my New Years's resolutions........
Honey, I grew up on the south shore of Long Island, NY in hurricane territory...

ya know how to duck and cover.  I've never been through a major earthquake or a real tsunami yet though.  Hey, there's always time for that.   Cat

Hayseed how do you crop your pics? I'd like to add to the collection of animal angels here.
Or can I send you mine and you'll do it for me, pretty please?
Adult photos are legal. FBI stepped in because the sicko had pics of a minor.

Very cool - thanks.nm

Cool that so rox!!!!!

My son is in a band, too!

That's way cool!
Yes, there are good people out there. Seems like you hear more about the bad than the good, unfortunately.

Much support to you, your son and your family!
Cool!
I had a lot of pen pals when I was in junior high.  We were obligated to take German and French in 7th and 8th grade and the teachers arranged for us to get pen pals in both countries.  I also ended up with one from Japan.  It has been 25 years since then and I am still in contact with my pen pal from France.  It is such a wonderful experience.
That is so cool!

I found my first bat upstairs in the hayloft a few years ago...oh it was so cute and so tiny!  My husband had to physically hold me back from trying to pick it up.  I think it was a youngin' who just came inside to sneak a nap and decided bales of hay were a most comfy place to crash.

I pretty much try to make a grab for anything like that...which is totally not normal, I know.

Spiders though...well, if I see a spider, no matter how teeny, I do that thing...what's it called..."vagal."     I'm like a fainting goat when it comes to spiders for some reason.  Pass right the frig out and poo myself.  Not too proud of that, but there ya have it, so I can totally understand someone else's phobias for sure!

OMG!! How cool is that!!
My daughter is turning 21 July of next year and that's what I'm doing for her.

We travel about 200 miles down the road to see a pro game series usually 2 or 3 times a season, but only once this year... $$$ is low :(

We are already starting to save and plan for her 21st. She's really excited. It would be SO awesome if Carl Crawford or Rocco Baldelli yelled happy birthday to her from the outfield.

What a memory that would be!
Very cool, - sm

First as a mom who adopted her first son when he was 9, I say congratulations to you all.  What a special blessing it is.  Your daughter has probably already met all of your relatives, but we made a special photo album with all of the extended relatives in it and labeled each one so that he had an album of his new family.  We also had a photo album of the adoption procedure with pics of all of us with the judge and pics of Anthony behind the judges desk and such.  We had a great judge, who let us take our time and take as many pics as we wanted.  We also planted a tree in the back yard as a reminder of adoption day, which we celebrate each year just like it was a birthday.  Also we bought a special frame for the adoption certificate and it is hanging in our living room in a very prominent place.  Something that we thought about after the fact and never did was to take out an adoption anouncement in the paper, just like a baby anouncement.

Just some of the ideas that we used, praying that you have a joyous and blessed life with your new sweetheart.

so cool
It was really cool. . I felt like I was witnessing a miracle - which, of course, birth is. . I doubt very many people get to see something like that - It definitely made my day!
I am such a cool mom
My DD just called from the bowling alley to ask if she and her friends could come here to watch their movie. I said, "Why yes, of course."

Now excuse me while I panic and try to clean this place up!

That is cool!!...nm
nm
Cool!
It makes such a difference doesn't it?  I used to HATE my nose and used to always say if I had the money I would have a nose job.  Once I had my teeth done, I can honestly say my nose does not bother me like it used to!  I think a healthy smile just helps the whole face.
Cool
I didn't know about the yoga positions.  I haven't ever done yoga, but it's something I'm interested in.  I'm definitely going to check that out!
