Contraception question (smsg)

Okay, I'm 46, have been on the pill for about 30 years and smoke, but am otherwise fairly healthy. My doctor of course wants me to stop (smoking but if not, then definitely the pill) and use something else. I still have a few years of relative fertility left and don't want any more children. I see my choices and ....yuck: condom, diaphragm, NuvaRing, spermicides or IUD as nonpermanent solutions. Note: hubby refuses to get snipped, and a BTL for me is a way more invasive and a bit more pricey. I'm leaning more toward an IUD just for convenience sake but am concerned about perforations, infections, etc.
Any thoughts, suggestions?
I never thought I'd REALLY be looking forward to menopause.....

Ah, contraception
I am lots older but years ago when still in childbearing years I used a diaphragm, only rubber type thing, easy to insert, no problems at all with it, definitely could not perforate anything, no wires and such. It worked like a cap over the end of the cervix, no fuss, no muss. I went on to have a hysterectomy (adenomyosis) and that is the best thing I ever did (age 46), talk about birth control, freedom!
Re: SICKO - smsg
So has anyone seen the movie "Sicko" yet? Did you like it? Hate it? Find out anything new you didn't know about the health care industry? Do you think it'll open the public's eyes a little bit? Any particular part youy considered really shocking, etc.?
