Can't have wait time if you have a child in shunt failure

Posted By: txmt on 2008-07-31

My daughter has shunted hydrocephalus. She's gone from a normal-acting child with no symptoms whatsoever, to having seizures, lethargy, and respirations of 9 with no warning whatsoever. She needed a medflight (because we were out of town on the way to the zoo), immediate CT scan and immediate surgery. I am terrified of universal healthcare and the wait times it would bring.

A time of 5 years should not have caused kidney failure.
This is too short a time.
Did she have heart problems also?
I know people who drag along for 30 years until they finally succumb to organ failure.
up already. usually wait a bit longer, but had the time.
It is artificial and I don't like it, but...well, don't have the time to shop for a real one and deal with the mess. busy this year, and alone, so who cares? No Christmas spirit this year.
just know that you all can bill an MD for wait time
really - it's being done now - whereby you, the patient, can bill the doctor's office for exhorbitant time waiting.............gives them back a taste of their own medicine (with them billing you for not canceling an appointment in a timely fashion) - TWO can play that game....*lol*
you are NOT a failure
The marriage may be, but not you. It broke my heart to see that. Your life will get better. Getting hit is something no one should accept and it sounds like you are suffering in so many other ways. Move on.
My experience with kidney failure

Several years ago we lost a white shepherd to kidney failure.  She was only 4.  She spent about a week on IV fluids and seemed to come around some but was still weak when we brought her home.  As soon as she starting eating again, even the special Eukanuba kidney diet, she went into failure again.  We had to take her back in 2 days to have her put down.  I was an absolutely hearbreaking experience to see her suffer.  I feel for all of the owners dealing with it now.

The cause of her kidney failure was never really determined.  The first question the vet asked me though was what kind of food I used.  I had 2 other dogs at the time and they were fine, so probably wasn't the food.  He did come to the conclusion that it was a "high tech rat poison" because they had another German Shepherd with the same problem.  It was a police dog and had been intentionally poisoned.  That dog made it through though.

My thoughts are with you and your kitty.

I swear I am going to have heart failure sm
if one more person walks into my office and scares the bejesus out of me. I'm so intent on concentrating on this doc and they walk in and say "hey mom" and I just totally jump out of my chair. They they say, "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you." My hubby has a bad habit of doing that when I am reading, too. I read every night for about an hour at bedtime with the nightstand light on. I'm totally involved in the book and I can't see him when he comes through the door because of the light and all of a sudden, he just appears like a ghost and I nearly fall out of bed because of fright. Of course he says, "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."   GRRR.
No wait, wait... 'mere Mom, me and my friends

can all drink it too.  Come on guyz... my Mom won't mind, have a drink and have some fun.  Bring the chocolate syrup!  Doesn't she have big nipples.  "My Dad likes 'em too and my baseball coach!

liver, kidney and heart failure...

ANY relationship based on lies is doomed to failure

Oh God no, you are not being a baby or a failure, and no woman should forget about being assaulted..
by her own spouse. Remember the marriage vows, to love and to cherish? You cannot fully love someone if you do not respect them as a person, and you cannot respect someone you strike and assault, no woman should tolerate violence of any kind, even once. You yourself say that there were many other issues, and I truly feel that a new life with a new start is a wonderful and necessary thing for you. I have been married almost 29 years, I cannot even tolerate verbal abuse and my husband knows it, mutual respect has to come first in any relationship. God bless you, keep praying for wisdom and strength, and see this as a learning and strengthening experience.
Hydrationis what is needed here. Kidney failure is being prevented.
Cost is high but well worth it. One can also get IV drip with lactated ringers and do it yourself. Fluid is seeped into area between shoulder blades to be absorbed by puppy's body. One of mine needed a blood transfusion, both needed IV antibiotics. Five days in house is typical.
I lost a male cat to renal failure that started out -(sm)-
as a blocked urinary tract. First his behavior changed, but it was just slight, so I barely noticed. He also began drinking more water, and going to his litter box frequently, but just peeing a little at a time. Then I had to leave town and my petsitter called the next day and said he was sleeping in his litter box. I was too dumb to know what that meant, and told her it was probably the heat spell we were having at the time, and to leave a fan on for him. Next morning she called from the emergeny vet's office. She had come and found him collapsed unconscious (probably from unimaginable pain) on the floor. They got him in the nick of time. He was completely blocked and would have died within the hour. As it was, although he seemed fine for the next month, the toxins from the backed-up urinary tract destroyed his kidneys, and he had to be put down at only age 4.

Male cats are more prone to urninary crystals and blockage than females, and Persians are especially prone to this, because they have teeny tiny little ureters. If your cat is long-haired, could he have Persian in him?

Regardless, I feel responsible for losing my cat because I didn't know about the symptoms. It sounds like he's trying to tell you something, so a vet checkup and maybe some blood or urine tests. Better safe than sorry. Oh, and one more thing: DON'T ever let a vet prescribe the pain killer/anti-inflammatory drug, Metacam (meloxicam) for a cat. (Especially the off-label use of the liquid version, which is for dogs only.) It can cause renal failure in cats. My current cat was given just one 0.5 mL oral dose of Metacam in the vet's office, and became violently ill for 2 days. Thank goodness I didn't give her what she was sent home on! THEN I looked it up online and OMG -- there are hundreds of people out there who have lost cats to Metacam.
Friend in kidney failure, on dialysis now, said she could not understand "them" (ESLs)
I got a call last night from a friend who goes back over 40 years. She was in the hospital in kidney failure on dialysis. I was shocked. I knew she had diabetes and high blood pressure but had spoken with her the other day and she mentioned no problems then. I asked her had she been taken her medications like she should have and she said well, maybe not really like I should have and then she told me she really could not understand her physicians, they were foreign and she did not know maybe just how bad off she really was. I am furious. I wish I had known the whole story. I asked "why did you not change doctors?" and her reply was, oh, I just didn’t. She is calm, submissive and I am the opposite, in your face and give me some answers. I have smoke blowing from my ears!  This is an older woman in her 60s who now waits for a kidney who is not on the top of the list because of her other ailments. She does not know the process of getting a kidney but I know what the outlook is for her. How many more people do you think are out there who might not get the kind of medical help they need because of them not being able to understand these foreign doctors? Furious for me is an understatement.
Should say the child found in Florida proved to be the Caylee child, homicide.

No! That sounds too desperate. TIME. Just give it TIME. If it is real, then sm
something will definitely evolve. If you like him, flirt back! Don't act desperate because if he DOES like you, then the suspense will just make him want to get to know you more. Trust me on this.

I worked in the medical records department of a hospital when I was single and dated a few co-workers in my early 30s. It was fun. Nothing serious came about any of the relationships.

This sounds like fun - the beginning of maybe something to come....Keep us informed.
Don't wait.
The attacks will definitely become more frequent and more sensitive. Even limiting your diet to bland foods will eventually not be good enough.

The pain is from the stones trying to pass into the biliary duct. It can be devastating if that happens.

I had open gallbladder surgery. It was painful, but I had no complications. I'm glad I had it done.

Don't wait. Infection can set in; necrosis can start.
Wait!!!!
I have the thickest, curliest, kinkiest, frizziest hair going.  I was ready to pull it out when I saw something on the Today show.  They said sodium laureth sulfate causes hair to be frizzy.  I went out and bought organic shampoo and you would not beleive the change.  I use Frizz Ease spray leave on conditioner and only wash it about once a week.  I am sooo much happier with it now.  I personally am too scared to make a change because if you don't like it, there is nothing you can do.  Good luck whatever you decide.  You could try this first and see if it helps.
No, but can't wait to see it!
And he may be targeting the pharmaceutical companies next. That ought to be good, too:)
N/T - Can Wait
LOL. If you to talk about the show or the new season, please feel free to email me privately (as can the rest of the posters).

Thanks. Cannot wait to here from him. nm

Oh boy could hardly wait to add my
doggie's picture to the forum

Meet Pinkie, she lives in Hawaii right now.

Oh, BTW, that's my grandson Cameron with her!! Luv him a lot too!!!

Thank you very much!!!! Can't wait to try them out! NM
..
Please wait
Please see a counselor before any sort of meeting with the other people! I'm not sure that it is a good idea. I know you have a need to meet this woman, but I'm not sure that it will be good for you in the long run. Please reconsider! Best wishes.
Can't wait to see it!...nm

oh, wait....

Thank you, I am going to just wait and see
if there is an appropriate time and I realize that may never happen. This is something so personal, I just want so much to share in their joy without judgement. When it happens it happens. I am just sooooo glad there are people out there that don't judge. We need sooo much more of that in this world!
You can't wait until he is better....he will never
Your whole life is passing by and he has purposely isolated you from your family.  He does not own you - you are not his possession.  You have and have always had the right to come and go as you please and have your friends and family members come over any time but he has denied you that right.  He is insecure and jealous of your sister.  He wants you all to himself....he is treating you like a possession. He doesn't get to tell you "no" your sister can't come. It is not even his right to do that.  I feel so sad for you that you have let all these years pass letting him tell you what to do.  It will be hard and there will be arguments but you have got to stand up for yourself before your life just slips through your fingers like sand.  You sister should have been welcome each time she wanted to come.  It sounds like he is afraid you might care about someone other than him.  Please let your sister come and see you...tell him if not, you are going to see her and you are staying for two weeks!  or three!  Your life is passing you by and he is keeping you from living it.
but wait!
who is the male lead? or should I say male leads; at least, I assume they are male!
Even if that wait......sm
meant a delayed diagnosis of a potentially treatable disease had you been given the CT scan, say, 6 months earlier?

You might just say "those are the breaks" but I would want diagnosis and treatment in a prompt and timely fashion rather than waiting around for 6 months for a diagnostic test, only to be told that I could have been cured 6 months earlier before the disease progressed to the point of no return.
Wait it out..
Not only that, but to cash it out you have a penalty...so say you cash out $5,000...after penalties and all that, you will get a bit over $3,000 I believe.

Just know if you cash it out, you will have to claim it as income on your taxes and pay a really high tax amount on it.....
I, too, have had to wait it out...sm
until they were old enough. Same here. Never helped with sick kids, never got out of bed to help when I had 3 babies at home...newborn, 1, and 2. NEVER NEVER GOT OUT OF BED TO HELP. No matter how tired I was, no matter if I was crying, he didn't give a crap. Yes...I, too, have been told he will fight me for full custody. In his words..."We'll see who is the one who will have to pay child support." So this for him is not about wanting the very best for his children, it is not wanting to have to pay me child support. I know he has severe mental illness...bipolar and paranoia. He follows me everywhere, he calls me wherever I go and then hangs up when the phone is answered even though my family has caller ID and knows it was him, he tells me he is going to go to my family and ask my sister's husband why they are allowing me to b**w them. I could go on but I think you get the message. My children are very unhappy.
thanks. He's only 9; I can't wait to see the look
One hour to go!!
thanks. He's only 9; I can't wait to see the look
He has a palatal expander, which is also uncomfortable. Thanks for the kind comment.

One hour to go!!
Can't wait, too!
I saw Liz tell Christian he should be putting his affairs in order. Is it a threat, a prediction . . ? Tuesday can't come fast enough!
You could wait until it's really dry, then
try to scrape off as much as you can. My daughter did this with red nail polish on the living room carpet. Scrape off as much as you can - it may take a while - and then you may have to use scissors to snip any leftovers. We eventually had a spot where the carpet was a tiny bit shorter in that spot, but it was definitely better than a fire engine red spot!
Wait until you see how he/she looks like and then name him/her...nm
nm
WAIT...
I just realized you ARE the OP, lol! When I saw the 'a different one', I thought you were another poster who had a similar experience.

Anyway, what I've experienced and how I acted out are probably the exact types of things you're going through.

Chaos is indeed an addiction but it's curable. You'll be fine ;-)
Totally agree, get these from time to time since teens...sm
It's a neuro condition, it does not mean there is anything at all wrong with you, it is actually related to narcolepsy, hypnagogic (sp? I just got up!) hallucinations, etc. And I HATE when I get these, it is always freaky, my siblings get this too, at times. I can "go away" for years and years before you get another episodes, so don't worry! I heard that when you are under a lot of stress or are very busy with things that this happens more??? Take care!!
It's time to stop when you or the kid(s) feel it is time, and no sooner. sm
My grandmother (who passed away at the young age of 107 back in the mid 1990s) was STILL celebrating every little holiday for all of her many kids and grandkids, and she would STILL give me a chocolate bunny every Easter, as she had since I was a toddler and even though I was 40ish at the time (and I still delighted in biting its head off in front of her, as I had also done since I was a toddler, which always met with mock disapproval from her).

Don't let anyone dampen your joy in celebrating your traditions.
I think everyone should wait at least 3 months.
x
ooooo - cant wait to see!!!

You are right, but I think it's good to wait .... (sm)
a while before adopting a new pet after you lose one. I got my new kitty only 4 weeks after losing my former cat, and must guiltily admit that it took about 4 months before I stopped constantly comparing her to my former cat. Her way of showing affection is TOTALLY different than my former cat, and for the longest time I didn't think she would ever come to truly like me. As it turns out she DOES truly like me, she just has a totally different way of showing it! I got my former cat after losing the one before him to cancer, and much more time passed between having each of those two pets, and I think that made the transition period (which one always goes through with a new pet) a whole lot easier.
I am SO excited, can hardly wait
to see your part of the country. I live in the south and the weather here now at almost 9 p.m. is 70 degrees. We saw a bit of "spitting" snow this past week, the weather is crazy! I love the animals and the scenery must be gorgeous there, like a kid at Christmas with my upcoming trip!
Or maybe they could wait a few hours
before coming to the board where they very well know the east coasters want to be talking about it.
I wait until spring, too sm

I figure the dead leaves and stalks offer a little protection from the cold. The bed where I have the hydrangea stayed iced over for more than a week this past winter, and I thought I had lost the hydrangea. But in the spring I could feel that the branches were still supple and smooth at the bottom so we just cleared out the dead leaves, trimmed off the dead tips, and it came back beautifully. It has blossoms all over it that are getting ready to burst into bloom.

We just moved into this house last summer and I planted the hydrangea in a place where I thought it would have enough shade, but we had a bunch of 100+ degree days I was afraid the heat had killed it....until the cold came along and then I thought the same thing about the cold. But it is definitely "the little hydrangea that could"!!

can you wait a few days
and call your X? Do you know any reason why he might have called it off? If he has been ok with it before..maybe there is a reason? Does he have a new gf or soemthing? Maybe you could offer to go there? Who knows what goes through men's minds sometimes. Can you reassure him that your son wil be back home at the end of summer? If you do not want to go through litigation again, call him back in a few days. Is he just being a bulley trying to punish you?
Wait a minute...
This bride is 65, second wedding, and I assume wearing white? I wonder. Also I believe etiquette says a bridal shower is not proper for a second wedding and probably especially not for a couple in their 60s ! which poster mentioned. Also, etiquette says the bride and groom or family should pay to put the guests up at the hotel if they have to come from out of town which poster also mentioned.

This old gal is obviously not Miss Manners, herself.

: )
Cannot wait to hear what he has to say
at 11:30 EST. He better take responsiblity for this and not try to blame someone else for this. I heard in one report they are saying he had a difficult childhood and that this is why he has acted in this manner. GIMME A BREAK. Sorry do not buy it.
do not wait - do something now -- report her

Before another family or child is scarred by this counselor you need to write a letter to the principal and to the school board documenting everything that has happened.  If you let it go, it will continue and harm other children.  I am all for making children accountable for their actions and sometimes feel that parents do coddle too much sometimes but in this occurence -- do not and I really urge you to do something about it and report it.  If you stand by and let this continue then you are partially responsible -- more of us need to become involved and do something about things like this.   Let us know what happens.   Just document in writing everything that has happened and does happen.

I agree. We will wait and see. But
in the meantime, Utah would be an interesting place for setting a new CSI.
Thank you. Will just wait until they are ready. nm
