We are going camping soon. This is a relatively new vacation thing we have been doing because it is much less than spending time in a hotel and allows the kids to meet new people and be forced to use creativity and imagination. Does anyone have any good tips, tricks, or hints? Or some good meal recipes for something other than the usual kabobs, hamburger/hot dogs and such?
Nachos are my bright idea for this time. I think I can do all the prep work at home and then just put them together in a foil pan and reheat over the campfire.

If camping sounds okay to you try going to floridacamping.com as they have the amenities you can choose from and an area map so you can see where you might like to stay. We just had a vacation to the Destin/Panama Beach area in June and it wasn't too hot just yet. There is a camping site in Panama Beach and I think it is called Campers Inn. They were across the street from the beach, but had direct beach access. Enjoy planning your trip!
OP says nothing about vacation just camping.

I never understood why people like camping.
Maybe it's because I've always been a working-poor hick and every day life is kinda sorta like camping...
If I could do it, I'd take luxury accomodations all the way, baby. Plush furniture, gourmet meals, never-ending hot showers, room service, and NO CHORES!
I couldn't even fathom wanting to scrounge around for firewood, finding potable water, pooping in the woods, swatting at bugs, worrying about what's gonna camp out in your sleeping bag with you...ugh! Call me a pussy, but that's just me!
People say I'm strange, but my $ goes to camping gear.
I love the wilderness, backpacking, kayaking, hiking, etc. This past weekend I had a wonderful backpacking trip. I was walking through a cloud of bright green ferns and blueberry meadows, and I loved it. Don't get me wrong! I love a good hotel, too! But I'm best recharged by a walk in the woods. Oh, yeah! And movies, music, and podcasts. I can't live without my iPod!
Yes - weekend camping trips much closer to home. nm
