In Reply to: Holiday gift for nephew in Iraq - TAIBer

My son left for the Army one week after graduating from high school and spent 4 years in the Army, 3 of which were spent in Germany. He came home in June 2005 and is now attending college. I don't know how I got through that first Christmas without him. I sent him an artificial tree for his barracks with all the trimmings. I sent a bunch of santa hats, reindeer ears and things like that for him to pass out to the guys. Lots of home made goodies. I've heard games are a big hit, not just card games but things like frisbees for outdoors, checkers, chess, movies, magazines, hand-held video games. Depends on what their living situation is. My son never had to go to Iraq, but was in Kuwait. I'm sure that he and his buddies would appreciate anything that you send. I actually got a list of names from my son when he was there of all of his buddies and sent them each their own individual packages, 24 in all. One year I sent them a personalized Christmas tree ornament. The first year I sent an angel stone that came with a little prayer card and happened to find angel gift boxes to put them in. The post office clerk wasn't too happy when I showed up with all of those boxes and it sure wasn't easy filling out all of those customs forms, but I just felt I had to do something, so I know how you feel. I'll keep your nephew in my prayers.
