Bay Bridge is closed for repair work all weekend -

In Reply to: Any exciting plans for the upcoming holiday weekend? nm - I'll be working
so getting in or out of the city will be a total nightmare. I'm just gonna hang out at home and work on Monday, since I need the $$!
On Sunday there's a big (free!) rock concert at the polo field in Golden Gate Park, honoring the 40th anniversary of the 'Summer of Love' in S.F. in 1967. (Gad - was it THAT long ago?) Lots of the original bands will be there. (Sigh....Too bad Jerry Garcia still isn't around to take part....) So, if I can find a parking-place anywhere in the same zip-code, I may cruise on over there and hobnob with all the old hippies. Should be pretty cool.
(PS: I have a young, hippy-ish friend with a totally amazing tattoo of Jerry Garcia on one of her arms! I know SHE'LL be there for sure!)

Yep, my weekend to work...
Put in 10 hours yesterday and 8 today. Not as tired as I thought I'd be, but getting there.
I will not work on Thanksgiving day, but over that weekend -sm
when I choose to work. I will have 90 minutes of work to get done by Monday; so will probably just do 30 minutes each morning and still the day free for the most part. As for Christmas, I am probably have to work on Christmas day but only because I will not have had time to do my work before then. I will only take 60 minutes for that weekend but won't have much time to do it until Christmas night, so that will be interesting. I am going to try to do it Friday night/early Saturday morning of the weekend so I will not have to work Christmas night. It will make me more tired but I'd rather be tired than have to work the night I get back after driving 200 miles. But I don't have to work on the holiday. We are off when the hospital is off, which follows state mandates, so we get all the major holidays.
Once had a repair man
tell us that GE was the worst brandname to buy. I kind of agree. Had a lot of trouble with GE products.
I should have been a repair woman.
My kids were out of clothes. Yes, I'm behind on laundry. So I wash some stuff, toss it in the dryer and I hear something going "ping" and it won't turn on. I just pulled it completely apart, put it back together and it's working. Yeah me! A screw had come out and fallen down inside of it. I can't believe how full of lint the inside was too. I do, however, have 6 extra screws that should be in there somewhere lol.

of the levator ani muscle? If so, what was your recovery time? TIA
Hiatal hernia repair, anyone?
Has anyone here had surgery for a hiatal hernia? I am considering it, as I have been on Prevacid for way too long, and it doesn't even work now most of the time. The doctor said about a year or 2 ago that if it gets bigger, I would have to have surgery. He also said lose some weight. I am not that big, maybe 20 lbs. over. Anyways, I know that if you have the surgery, it can return again, so I just wanted to get opinions from anyone who may know or have already had this?
Thanks!
Rainbow Bridge
If you Google Rainbow Bridge there's a beautiful website on this. Just a warning - it'll probably get you bawling if you're like me!
i have a Marilyn (sp?) bridge and it
works great. had a partial for a long time and hated it. had to take it in and out like dentures and was terribly embarrassed. the bridge also didn't cost as much. i've been told that there are drawbacks to bridges though, so might want to ask about that. good luck. i didn't smile for a long time.
Jump off a bridge already.
I find myself wishing that toward all the pedophiles I've been typing about lately. My heart just aches for their victims. I'm so disgusted by what they do, have done, that I just about puke by the end of the notes. As soon as this shift is over, I'm taking a hot shower to help wash away my disgust.
No you cross a bridge to get there - not far enough out (sm)
to warrant a ferry or plane. But it is truly surrounded on all three sides, and you couldn't wade or swim across...lol. It is a port town, and they have a huge shrimp boat festival there every year with all sorts of artsy vendors and such. There is an old saloon there called the Palace Saloon which was supposedly the old hangout for pirates and smugglers who went through the area. Here are a couple of links if you are interested in reading or seeing pics :)

Maybe you should keep your legs closed
!!
Closed by subscriber
I don't think it does as long as you make sure they make sure on your report it says "Closed by subscriber"...or something like that.
If it looks like the CC company closed it, then it would look suspicious.
I could be wrong.
Here's the "Rainbow Bridge" quote (sm)
I personally don't believe in a god or an afterlife, but this little story makes a lot of people feel better when their animal passes, and if that can bring comfort to someone in a time of grief, I'm all for it.
"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... "

I have sold some property, not closed on but
get this- the new "owners" have gone in (I was told they wanted to spring clean and thus the realtor gave them keys to the place to do so) and stripped the carpets that were there and also dismantled and took down part of a cabinet. The closing was to take place the first of July. I called the realtor and asked when did spring cleaning turn into renovation. One person had asked about a possible early move-in as their lease ran out today. I told realtor no moving in, nothing else done until closing. No answer from him- no emails answered, nothing. I sent him 1 yesterday saying - oh, never mind, I will check on my property myself either Thursday or Friday morning, hope I don’t find squatters there- guess what folks, now he calls late yesterday evening wanting to know can we close today. Oh, the power of persuasion. Some people really have the nerve!
That's because your mind is closed shut
like a trap.
Typical arrogance this man accused of us - LOOK, CURIOUS minds want to investigate and TRULY understand different cultures.
Unlike you like sucking down the lies the media and your government are handing you 24/7 WITHOUT bothering to see for yourself.
Never occurred to you his DERISION of us/the questioners may have been in the least justified?
Im not defending him, but I'm also not willing to dismiss or comdemn HIM out of hand, just because the powers that be are doing so and encouring us to follow suit.
NO SHEEP HERE.
Closed-minded people..
Did you ever think that perhaps she was using birth control pills, and perhaps even condoms?? You should know that neither of these methods are 100% effective, being in this field. And she is able to take responsibility for her child because she has the finances to do so..she isn't one of these women popping out child after child and living off of the government. I wish people would get off of their high horse and stop scoffing at the girl just because she ended up pregnant at 16. Sure, it might have been a mistake for her, but I don't see why everyone should come down on her when she is obviously doing the right thing. I would hate to see your daughter get pregnant at 16. But I can hear your reply now: My daughter wouldn't be having sex at 16. Or so you think.
Thanks for all your positive help, case closed sm
I am going to close this query now. I have had many wonderful e-mails and help on the board which I can print (well, most) and make a little portfolio for him to get some ideas. His wife has been working double shifts nursing to make ends meet and he has been caring for the kids and doing all to make the holiday reasonably good for them. He's been doing all nighters on researching and the company is very impressed with all the research he's done on his new job and product and are going to travel here to meet him and work with him to get him started, Everyone is positive and anxious to make this new innovative product introduction a success. There are no coincidences and paying it forward has been our family's way of life and we are grateful to all who e-mailed and posted positive little hints to ease the transition, we are from a small rural area and am not familiar with that area. Thank God for good people in the Christmas Spirit. I've helped many on the boards throughout the years under another name and feel fully rewarded. I will continue to pay it forward myself and God bless you great people. We had a death in his wife's family over the holidays which we were unprepared for and travel arrangements, funeral plans, babysitting, eulogy, etc.had to be prepared, and you made our life so much easier and renewed our faith. I will close the subject now, it has been a lesson in life, that's for sure.! The end - Merry Christmas to those who passed on their holiday helping spirit. You helped us through a difficult time. Thanks so much to the helpers (and I made some new wonderful friends.). God Bless!
Case closed on gifts - sm
I received the replies I needed. Thanks to those who understand. Obviously others haven't been there. Gift cards are not acceptable, it is a couple who are very different, as one of them wants "something to open" or a gift they "need" in which case it takes a trip to the store together for what turns into a high ticket item with no regard as to how much it costs. The other is appreciative of everything and anything. The answers I received reflect the personality differences I expected. It takes all kinds. I should know better.

Another animal crossed Rainbow Bridge today (pic).
This is a picture of Buck. He was a Belgian horse, late teens maybe early 20s, who was found by a friend of mine at a livestock auction with his teammate (another older Belgian) who were both skin and bones, sores on their skin, bad hooves...the whole enchilada of problems that neglect brings. She bought them both for a couple hundred bucks just so they could go to her place and die with a belly full of food. They both made a miraculous recovery, gained weight, and went onto great homes. I was blessed with being able to take Buck on a 3-week trial to see if he would be a good slow riding horse for me (I'm kinda crippled up and that was my therapy).
He was a sweet old fella but his heart was in pulling...either wagons or twitching wood out of the forest, so he moved onto a home that was better suited for him. We kept in touch with his new owners who loved him as much as I did.
Today I got a phone call and was told he just dropped dead, apparently of a heart attack. Sadly, the years of neglect took their toll and his heart just gave out. I'm thankful he was at least surrounded by people who loved him when he needed it the most. Please hug your critters--we never know when they may leave us.

It was a nice day outside...we had the garage open but the inside door closed...

Yes - does not work! Hoax if you ask me. MetaboLife doesn't work either.
The only thing that works for me is exercise and eating correctly! No quick fix, unfortunately.

Decorate graves Saturday, daughter's wedding reception Sunday, take it easy day Monday.
Weekend
Luckily I'm off weekends. We went to an early dinner with friends yesterday, and I spent the rest of the day reading for once in I don't know how many years. Also went to the mall. Today we went to church came home and one of the teenage boys in the neighorhood had an Easter egg hunt for the little kids in the neighborhood. Tonight a friend came over the we watched the latest James Bond movie. Now it's off to bed for a busy 4 days of work next week. I'm off Good Friday. I hope everyone has a good week.
What I did this weekend
I worked Sat a.m., then had hair cut - mine was looking like something could have been living in it. Then it was grocery shopping and came home, cleaned and discussed about whether or not we'd move and where to and watched a movie. Sunday got up piddled around, DH got up and we again talked about where and if we were going to move (the talks usually last about 2 - 3 hours), then we boxed up some stuff, made dinner, talked more about moving, watched a movie, talked more about moving and I went to bed exhausted as it was another weekend (this has been going on for about a year now) of not coming to decisions. It isn't really that great when the town you live in more and more people are leaving (where they went I don't know but it's local cos every once inwhile they drive by), but more and more houses are being foreclosed, we hear of families moving in with other family members, schools laying off, all libraries have shut down, crime is rising, no employment here and none anywhere else. We've done so many long distance moves and they never worked out (at least for the first couple of months). Then we listened to the bully kid next door blasting his music. DH is going through mid-life crisis I think. It was just an exhausting weekend.
Misha's weekend
I don't have much new to report about Misha, except that we did get out and go to PetsMart and she enjoyed more attention than usual from two-footed admirers of all sizes. My new prednisone dosing technique seemed to work - no crashing. She wouldn't eat out of a dog bowl, but she would suck canned food- Blue Buffalo lamb recipe - off my fingers, which was quite endearing. Sasha watched me hand-feed Misha and wouldn't touch her bowl until I had hand-fed HER 3 bites too. So I'm creating two monsters, but it felt pretty good at the time. I also got her to eat some Jumbone-type treats also, so at least she's not going to starve. :o}
Plans for the weekend?
Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend? We have no big plans...may do some clothes shopping for the kids if I feel like it.
Weekend Plans
It's my husband's birthday Saturday so we're going out to dinner with friends. It's supposed to be a hot weekend so we'll spend much of the time in the pool with our daughters. We also usually have bonfires on the weekends with the neighbors/friends and/or a cookout since the weather is so beautiful.
My weekend plan:
It's pretty self-explanatory. Buy a nice seedless watermelon, insert funnel and pour in oodles of liquor of choice...vodka, schnapps, rum, etc. (You'd be amazed at how much booze these things can drink!) Let sit overnight in your fridge if you can stand to wait that long, cut up and serve or drill holes into melon and give your best bud a straw and watch the magic happen. See you in rehab.
Attending our first this weekend sm
since I was a little girl. We live in VA but are just across the state line from WV which is where I grew up. My DD is in her first horse show there this weekend. It is about 1 1/2 away. I am a nervous wreck for her already.

Just got in from Las Vegas so the weekend

Weekend plans
We're going to finish school shopping and then on Sunday we're going back to the NYS Fair to see the American Idol concert and Monday probably a cookout with our friends.
The weekend after Thanksgiving
We go out and get the tree and decorate the inside of the house.

So, what's everybody got planned for the weekend?
I'll be working Saturday and Sunday, but I might have a few extra minutes to go to the fabric store. I'm going to try to finish a few UFOs (unfinished objects - sewing). And, I'll be stopping in here, of course. So, what's everybody else doing?
Memorial Day weekend
So what fun things do you guys have planned for the long weekend?
I have to work.
