Back in the 80s my knowledge helped out some

In Reply to: I have fibro, too. - Feeling bad today
I had all the symptoms that go with hypothyroidism, the intense itching, the never being able to get warm (with blankets over your head, etc.), went to my doctor and told him I wanted along with my physical exam to have test for thyroid as I thought had this. Went back, he forgot to order and so ordered that day, immediately referred to endo because my labs were off the chart, so to speak and lots of you know thyroid can lead to other problems, even death if left untreated. If I had not pushed this time, guess would be pushing up daisies now. For 2 family members I told others to ask for Megace (these people were skeletons and not eating) and because I knew it was appetite stimulant, I could tell them worth a try. Each gained their appetite and at least did not starve to death so after all these years I have learned a little!

Its for the knowledge you get out of it
When I was in horse 4H, I had a pony, not a horse. They gave us a handbook that taught us all about horses, the names of all the parts of the horse, proper grooming and saddling, etc. I learned a lot from those meetings (they were at a farm where they had horses to demonstrate on). They also had trail rides, etc., which my father refused to let me attend because he was a mean guy (his reason was my pony was so short I was likely to be kicked by someone in front of me with a tall horse). I did learn a lot and enjoy it, but eventually the disasppointment of never getting to go on any horse activities did me in, and I dropped out. It did enable to be better around horses, and I went on many rides at my aunt's on her horses, and could always saddle them to her satisfaction. I'd say, let him go and see how much he can learn.
Anyone with knowledge of strokes? (sm)
My father had a stroke two weeks ago and did not tell anyone - he lives an hour away and I had not seen him - I had talked to him quite a few times on the phone and he kept saying everything was great. He has a roommate and apparently had told the roommate not to tell me. So when I saw him in person Friday night, he told me. It was not really obvious at that time, except when I saw him walk in front of me I noticed one of his legs seemed to drag a little. I pleaded with him to go home with me and let me take him to a doctor. But he kept insisting that he was not going to go, that it was two weeks ago and he was okay. Finally on Monday, my brother (in Florida) convinced him to let me take him to the doctor, so he said he would let me take him on Tuesday (yesterday) after he got a haircut and got all of his things in order. Well, Monday evening he got a terrible headache and a pins and needles feeling and his roommate took him to the ER where I met them. By this time he could barely walk and had severe shaking in his left leg and arm. He had another mild stroke yesterday evening. He cannot even walk with the aid of a walker. Here is my question: Once a person loses function due to stroke can they ever get any of the function back or is it permanent? Can rehab help them like it helps accident victims?
It might be public knowledge but
how you obtain is another matter. You cannot get someone in a public office (as stated below) to ramble through a persons records. That my dear is against the law and that is what was said and not only that but if the person committed crimes when a child or teenager, those records are sometimes totally off limits and closed to the public. I also have people in law enforcement but if I needed information, would not have them go through the records to get for me and risk losing their livelihood.
I am speaking with very little knowledge here..
I have only met one (1) pit bull in my life. It was very pleasant, wanted to be petted, and never hostile. What I did notice is how muscular it was and I remember thinking that I wouldn't want that dog to snap at me. All dog breeds are capable of being aggressive (especially if there is a dominance issue), but some breeds are more muscular and less *intidimated* by humans than other breeds. It seems to me (dog experts, please correct me) it would be easier to pull a Yorkie or a Cocker Spaniel off an attacked person than a pit bull. I don't know how that applies to bigger breeds like labs or retrievers.
However, my humble opinion does not make up for the fact that you could face the loss of a loved family pet. I hope it works out for you.
Have some animal knowledge
To those of you speaking about how pits are so evil, I have two things to say...
1. Any dog is capable of that behavior. We have two dogs and one is a search and rescue dog and both are very loving... but you should never ever underestimate a dog no matter what. they are still animals and they still respond according to their instincts in certain situations. ALL ANIMALS have this capability.
That being said...
2. So if you outlaw pits, who's next? What animal species will be evil incarnate after that?
Basically, it all boils down to the owners, the training and the language the animal gives off in certain situations.
For example, my friend recently told me that someone she knows put their golden to sleep because it bit their child. When they euthanized the dog, a technician made the incidental finding that one of the kids had shoved a pen into the dogs ear. They came to the realization that this is why the dog had bitten, but no one ever even tried to sit down and figure out what had happened... nope, the dog is just put down.. no questions. You know, I would have torn that kid in two myself if that had happened to me, so its the kid and not the dog.
Go to a dog language class, take some training and learn some things before condemning an animal to death for "instincts" that supposedly only that breed has. Its ridiculous and completely ignorant.
I have a relative who has a wealth of knowledge
and was telling her about the posts on this board, namely this thread. She tells me she got a high school graduation and later baby shower invite from her great niece- this person never called, never wrote- my relative said they went in the garbage. She and I are on the same page. BTW, I have gotten late calls on days, like Mothers Day, Thanksgiving- etc. from people and I, like you, think after thought.
excuse my lack of knowledge, but
I thought medicinal marijuana was legalized in CA some time ago. What a horrible situation, this calls for an uprising, let the power of the people be heard. That is exactly why this stuff is going on - we let it.
Excuse me...a little medical knowledge..sm
The IUD prevents any ovum from implanting, including a blighted or fertilized ovum. Sheesh.

i agree. I thought the knowledge level was very poor

Here is what we do and it has really helped us to
We avoid comments like "You did ,,,,,," and "You made me,,,,". We use "Ifelt like ,,,,,,", "I understand that,,,,,," "I hear you say,,,,,". Try to keep accussatory statements out of it. Say how you understand the event to have happened and how it made you feel. Reiterate what you heard the other person to say/do and give that person a chance to agree or disagree.
I helped with the first car s/m
My son is 19 1/2 and I helped him with his first car. When he was 16, I contributed $700 towards it and he saved the rest, which was $1,700. He did this by saving for years, getting lawn jobs, etc. He also had to maintain good grades, sports, etc. He also had to get a part time job. I didn't care if it was one day a week, but he had to get something. I paid for his insurance until just this month. He just bought a new car, trading in his old one. He is now in college full time and working part time. He decided on his own that it was time for him to start paying for it, which is fine with me.
My tax guy helped me with this info.

things that have helped me -
I was going nuts - waking up 2-3 times a night - feeling horrible all day. Go back to basics -
Try to get a walk in - couple of hours at least before bed - 20-30 minutes if that is all you have.
Don't watch TV or be on the computer a couple of hours before bed - watching TV not as bad as computer.
Take magnesium 500-750 mg right as you lie down to go to sleep. Recommended by many MDs for women.
Watch your caffeine intake stop early afternoon if you have to for a while.
Hope this helps - I am sleeping much better now.
Thank you everyone for your replies. It has helped a lot to know that I am in...sm
the right here. I started to think for a second that maybe I was being selfish.
DH told me last night he will break the bad news to his sister after the holidays.
I told him I need a vacation, too and that it's not easy working full-time and overtime from home. I need out of this place. It's hard not to think about work when you're home especially when you know there's a backlog cloud looming over your head. I'm sure some of you know what I mean.
He's convinced now that the money should be spent on the entire family not just him, our youngest and his sister's family.
You guys have been a great help! Thanks again and happy holidays, I feel a little less stressed now.
Only that helped me was New Balance
I switched from wearing mostly Birkenstocks to New Balance after a visit to the podiatrist. It probably depends a lot on your foot type, because for some people it seems Birks are better, but they weren't for me. I have New Balance of all types now. It's almost all I wear and I haven't had a bad flare of PF for about 6 years now.
He helped me pick it out!
I tried it on in front of him, too.
Thanks - your post helped
I know if the shoe is on the other foot I never take offense at anything anyone says. You said exactly what my BIL said to me "it's a natural part of life". I felt better after posting and reading some of the responses and also talking to my DH. But like you say, in the future its going to be sympathetic responses. As for myself, I do have a very different outlook on life/death. I view death as a rebirth into a new life. Of course I would never do anything to bring mine on sooner than my expected time, but when my time comes I will be ready to move on.
I think you accidentally helped me
I will just avoid the mall.
BCP helped me immensely, but I needed to take sm
something for nausea for the first week. Can't remember what it was, but it really helped. It was an antinausea med for pregnant women. You should see a gynecologist, though, to see if you have something that could be causing the pain, like endometriosis, or even cervical stenosis (what I had) which was helped with a D&C. Don't suffer. Life is too short.
You're welcome!! Hope it helped some....sm
I am not expertised enough to use Turbo Tax myself. I do get everything really super ready for the CPA, and now I have MQ take an additional $50 every paycheck for additional taxes so that it covers some of what I have to pay privately for 4 private docs.
a suggestion that helped with mine--sm
I had been put on Synthroid as soon as it was discovered that I had hypothyroidism. After many years of taking it and feeling absolutely no better and still with fluctuating TSH levels, I wanted to try the more natural supplement, Armour, which has both T3 and T4, and not just the T4. I had to change doctors in order to have it prescribed, but eventually got what I wanted. It helped significantly with the hair loss, but if you try it, give it several months before you notice a difference.
I have also been hearing subtle speakings about T1 and T2, as well. So far, they say we don't need these, but in my mind, if the body makes them naturally, we need them for something, whether the *doctors* think we do or not. I am currently looking into where I can get those, as well.
Also, I found that chemically infested shampoos were a detrement to the hair, as well. Find a good organic shampoo with only natural ingredients, and that may help, as well. I use MOP organic shampoo.
Hope this helps a little bit.
Eat yogurt daily, helped me....nm

Changing shoes helped me.
I had a touch of this years ago. I realized it was from one particular pair of shoes. It went away when I quit wearing them. Are you seeing a podiatrist?
Good. I really hope I helped.
It is not normal 6-year-old behavior, despite what others say. It is normal bratty, spoiled 6-year-old behavior, and it is not acceptable. Since your husband won't correct him, you are just going to have to let the kid know that you aren't his sibling and you don't compete for slushies and you are happy that they have a good time together. Try and stay in that mindset. Also, if you don't mind my commenting on something I think you said earlier about them cuddling and stuff and how you thought that was strange - it might seem strange if it is not something you have witnessed before, but that is an important part of bonding. Six years old is still pretty young and they should be doing a lot of cuddling. It will end soon enough so let your hubby give him that affection. The kid might not be getting it from his mom or others in his life.
I also don't understand why others are saying you are humiliating your husband in a public forum. That's silly. Now if you posted it on a billboard in his hometown, that would be different!
Thank you all for your replies, that reall helped (sm)
at the very least, I am going to rent at first and see how things go before buying.
Hold it, are you saying zinc helped your
insomnia? I have gone through some natural items my husband had and still waking usually every 2 hours during the night, drives me crazy and needless to say the next day feeling like a zombie. I also take biotin and have the longest eyelashes now, not so much help for the hair but my dermatologist told me to take that the rest of my life due to the severe hair loss. Talk about avoiding the scales, only my scales and I know the truth there, do not even weigh in the doctor's offices, just tell them take a guess.
Anyone ever helped their child with a weight problem? (sm)
I have read up on this and don't want to make the problem worse by making it an issue, but would like to help him. I have as many healthy foods on hand as possible and try to feed him healthy things but apparently he eats too much of it. I mean, I know basically how people lose weight, but I am dealing with a child. He is starting to be made fun of and it is really hard for him. He's 10.
Helped with son's Eagle project this weekend.
He only has some paperwork and a board of review to get done, and then he'll be an Eagle scout.
What has helped my pain are fruit and vegetable capsules. sm
I have been taking them for 8 years or so ever since my pain started to get so bad I couldn't sleep (I know you know what I mean). I was working for a certified nutritionalist/chiropractor at the time. They have helped me so much that I continue to take them after all these years because I'm afraid not to. I did stop for a little while and tried another product (10 months or so) but the pain came back. Email me if you want to know more info. I am not a distributor so I'm not trying to sell them or anything, it is just what has been working for me.
Flax oil and taurine supplements helped me tremendously (sm)
Mine is now pretty much gone but any time I feel bad I start back on the flax oil (oil not capsules) and it helps tremendously. I hope you feel better soon!
Omega fatty acid supplements helped my son a lot (sm)
I just by the gummy supplements brand name Little Critters at Target. After a couple of weeks on them, my son himself, at the age of 9, recognized the difference in how he felt and he now reminds me when we run out, that I need to get him some more.
I'm having a hard time too - Charlie Brown's Christmas music has helped some (sm)
It hasn't been very cold around here...parade yesterday we were sweating. One thing that has helped me is I got the music CD from Charlie Brown's Christmas and have been listening to that and watched the little cartoon. That has always been one of my favorites. But I'm just not feeling it much either this year! I think the fact that the stores put the Christmas stuff out right after Halloween and sometimes before just makes it all seem like another day! And for me these days it just seems like a time of year where I have to spend money. Anyway, you're not alone :-)
Then they can get right back on their tires and rafts and float on back to Cuba! nm

Back-to-back black swans that look like (sm)
a giant moustache. My MIL painted it for us and put our last name on it and my DH nailed it to an outside storage room door. It looks ridiculous, and when the kids have other kids over they always ask why we have a giant moustache on our door!
Hayseed was back a few weeks back
But we haven't heard from her since. I miss her too. I hope she's doing okay.
Well, I'm going to at least try to take it back...
...and if they don't believe me, I can't really blame them. Several years ago, they had someone return a computer and get another one, and when they opened the boxes later, they were filled with wood and rocks, etc. I'm still looking for my receipt, but not holding my breath.
My dad used to work at Lowes and he said they kept finding empty nail boxes behind the full boxes. Turns out, people were combining two boxes of nails and only paying for one. I didn't realize nails were that expensive. Who knew?
thank you so much for having my back.
for a little bit was beginning to think i was crazy/
i havent said anything to her yet, but i have to many parents and one of them spoke to teh principal who laghed it off. teh teacher, when that parent talked to her about it, said that seh goes thru this every year with parents and that teh children wanted to talk about it. i told my mom adn let me tell you, she is PO'd to say the least. tonight is our christmas program, my mom said she was going to talk to her, i think i'll be standing right next to her. i cant wait. i wish i was more vocal, adn wasnt so scared that if i did make a fuss she would treat my daughter differently. just dont know what to do here, i feel like screaming, but am too scared...isnt that silly.
MTT, you just took me back to...
that baby sweet smell of Dreft that I used when my kids were little!
Back at ya!
Sorry took so long! Chickens rock!
Could it be your back...sm
Causing the pain in your foot? Up until just recently, I had that electric-shock feeling in my foot when I would turn it a certain way. It was excruciating! But it would only happen if I turned my foot at a certain, odd angle, like when I was stretching, so I just tried not to move it that way. It lasted for a good 2 months, then finally went away on its own.
I'm certain this was caused by whatever is going on in my back, though. In the last few years, I've started to have a lot of problems with my back. My doctor thinks it's because I have scoliosis, the degree of which is considered mild, but they're finding out now that even mild curves can cause severe pain.
Mostly my pain is from muscle spasms, but there is also definitely some "pinched nerve" type stuff going on at times. Lately I've been feeling an odd sensation almost like something is encircling my big toe on that same foot that had the shock-like pain, but it's very mild.
Anyway... maybe you could see a chiropractor? I went to one in the past, and I could really tell a difference. If I missed an appointment, I'd start to feel that sciatica-type pain down one leg. Also, a physical therapist might be able to help with exercises and tips. Insurance will usually cover that, but they don't always cover chiropractic care.
I got a TENS unit through my PCP and that helps relieve the pain, and I do stretching and strengthening exercises (I even have a DVD for yoga exercises specifically for the back and scoliosis that I *really* need to start doing.)
Anyway, just throwing out some ideas for you. I hope you can find a solution. I know that "shock" pain is horrible!
thanks - got it back

No. I don't think they are trying to win back--sm
their customers. This particular company has had negative reports about their products for years. Personally, I would never give this pet food to any of my pets even prior to the tainted pet food scandal just because of the negative reports about their food. They are going to be faced with a number of law suits anyway, in regard to the tainted pet products, as are probably some others. I don't think their giving away free pet food is going to win back anyone, who has a lick of sense in their head and true concern for their pets. Actually, being a pet owner, I think I would stay away from any and all of the pet food manufacturers involved in this tainted pet food business. I would no longer trust their products to be safe, no matter what the conditions after the fact. The *quality* pet food manufacturers are not on the recall list, so I would stick with them, for now. but then again, this is just my opinion.
I just got back from looking.
It was awful. As far as the chickens and the sheep, that really did not bother me at all. I grew up on a farm. They had had a party a few months ago and never cleaned up. It smelled of urine. I still have that awful smell with me. GAG. The place looked trashed. There were holes in the walls. I know you are supposed to look beyond that and I tried and tried. The fact that they knew since Monday that we were coming to look, I think they should have made an effort to make it look presentable. Even the realtor agreed with me on that. I don't feel they took us seriously. The realtor said they already came down from 130k to 125k so the potential buyer could put in new carpet or steam clean it. I tried not to make a face but Dh said I had rolled my eyes. My cousin, who knows the owner, said these people do this for a living. They buy houses, live in them for a little while then sale them for profit. I don't think they have a clue about their business. IMO.
DH looked into the attic. He said he could move the beams with his hand. He did put his face on the wall in the living room, he said it was crooked. DH said that our house is better built. I noticed cracks between the ceiling and the baseboard in the loving room but I thought maybe just the baseboard needed to be renailed. DH thinks that is an indication the house is sinking.
The only thing we liked was the living room, sun room and that shop outside. I liked the backyard but the master bedroom was too small. The one I have now is small but it is bigger than that. I want bigger, I don't want to downsize. The other two bedrooms I thought were too small as well but we could live with those if we had to.
I guess the reason they did not take us seriously and did not put out an effort was because I had already told them that 125k was too high for that neighborhood. THe realtor lady said that they had come off but evidently that 125k was their comming off price. I don't think I would want to pay 70k now, not even 50k.
Just getting back to you but the dog
had foot surgery- I saw it prior and had like a lipoma removed from its foot (have seen it since also). Apparently the dog has problems with being mobile as older dog, heavy dog (the guy fed it scraps from the table)and thus the reason for the mother giving it drugs for pain, sorta like I take ibuprofen daily because of fibro. Anyway, I appreciate the post- got email from her again this morning, about nothing really, but once I answer know it will get back to the doggie issue. Several people associated with her have sent her books, items, etc. about her enabling, so she tells me, but she will continue. I have a now deceased husband who did exactly the same- you would never have made him understand it does not help. He told me he would go to his grave and not do any differently and he did. I am not sorry for paying for the surgery but now have decided no more doggie medicine money. Thanks again!
Hey, I just got back from there
and was at the Belliago and I sure did not have freebies. Don’t you have to be one of the big rollers (or they think you are going to spend a lot at the tables) to get deals like you are talking about? Regardless of what places give away free, too spoiled to stay anywhere else now since my stays there.
I back you in everything you have said
and people who think you can ask nicely are probably the ones who have the problem children. Some kids just do not like anyone older saying jack to them. Sorry some people want to hide their heads in the sand. Their children probably don’t know how to behave either so they think youre asking/telling the kids to go was wrong. The kids would have responded the same way to either asking or telling. Poor upbringing.
No, not at all. I'm 37 and am going back SM
to school to be an ultrasound technologist. I started this path back in 1993--graduated from rad tech school in ྛ. Then I had kids and never worked in the field. Went back to school in 2000 to become a medical Transcriptionist and have been working as an MT ever since.
Now, I'm finally working toward finishing my ultrasound degree. I'm really excited about it. I sometimes worry that I'm too old, but I'm not going to let that stop me.
You can do it!

The last time you knew he was happy, and find somewhere you can spread them. A place you know he enjoyed or something like that. Before things went downhill.
