As one who drives a larger vehicle (sm)

Posted By: LMHS on 2008-03-31
In Reply to: No. I'm going where I want - regardless of cost.

it cracks me up to hear people with large cars complain.  Since I bought my Mountaineer (2007), the price for a tank of gas has gone up about $10.  I fill up every other week, so that's $20 a month.  Unless your car payment is right to the limit of what you should be spending, that increase in fuel cost should not be putting you over the edge.  Now I understand that for those on very limited budgets who need to save every penny this can be a real problem - these are not the ones I'm referring to.

Case in point, I have a friend who bought a much larger, more expensive vehicle than they needed or could afford, and now they can't afford to sell it either because they owe so much more than it's worth.  She complains about the price of gas all the time.  I keep telling her that if she can really AFFORD to drive a Cadillac Escalade then it shouldn't matter to her how much gas is.  Needless to say, that just pisses her off.

To answer the original question, our travel plans will not change bsaed on the price of gas.  We look forward to going to the beach every year, and can make the trip there and back and do all the running around while we're there on three to four tanks of gas.

Vehicle extended warranties...sm

I'm thinking about buying an extended warranty on a vehicle I just bought.  The factory warranty runs out in a couple of months.  I'm wondering if it is worth the extra money to go with the maximum care/bumper to bumper?  The plan I'm looking at is $280 more for the bumper to bumper.  Any opinions on extended warranties in general would be appreciated.

It depends on your vehicle and driving conditions...sm
In most cases you do not need to change it every 3000 miles unless you do a lot of strenuous driving (i.e. mountains or towing things). Your manufacturer of your vehicle can tell you what they recommend. A lot of the newer vehicles have sensors that advise when the oil needs changing based on how dirty it senses it is. The sensor on my Saturn usually alerts me between 6000-7000 miles that the oil needs changing. On our Kia they recommend changing it only every 7500 miles unless rigorous driving has been done, in which case they recommend changing between 3000-5000. Our Ford recommends changing the oil every 3000-5000 miles but it's also the oldest vehicle in our driveway.
Oh boy. Is your house larger? (Gulp), can you SM
have the party at your house? Would you be willing to volunteer for that? Somehow I think the other mom might be appreciative. It would be a headache to have a slumber party, but may work out.

Accepted - but my MIL drives
So I keep my distance. She's a martyr at times and very gossipy so you have to watch what you say around her. SIL takes advantage of her all the time. I try to remain cordial and let DH worry and deal with her.
This drives me crazy too.
Unless you put your purse in your trunk before you leave your house, what's the point? It's obvious what you are doing and that you don't plan to be back for a while when you do it in the parkinglot of a hospital, mall, etc. I think it would be just as easy to pick a lock on a trunk as anything else, not to mention for someone to approximate and come back in 7 or 8 hours and wait for you to come back and get you then.

I hope this lady is okay. It's such a terrible thing. They need to get whoever did this off the streets.
Mine is exactly the same way, drives me nuts- sm
He does not understand why I can't keep a picture perfect house. He was raised by a neat freak so he thinks I should keep the house like his mom, immaculate. Not. We are not living in squalor by any means, but it can get messy quick with 2 kids and 2 dogs. Apparently no one but me knows to take dirty dishes to the sink, etc. Granted the house does need an overall/good cleaning/organizing, but help in not making it any worse would be appreciated. The kids help some and are slowly getting better, but there is still a lot I have to do myself and just don't have the time to do. Seriously thinking of hiring a housekeeper/cleaning service for either twice monthly or weekly cleaning. I still need to declutter but that would make my life a lot easier. Maybe you could do the same and hire someone to clean twice a month. I just wish I could take off for 2 weeks and get done around here what needs doing. I will probably take a week off of one job after school starts up again which will leave my days basically clear so maybe, just maybe I can get a few things done around here that need doing!
2 teenage drives - both boys, sm
One is in college and has not had any type of ticket. Did hit someone already, and he had to pay half of her repairs. We paid the other half because we wanted him to save for college. The second has just gotten his permit. If either of them get a ticket, they will have to pay for it, and go to driver's school. Would probably take away driving priviledges for a while on the youngest. definitely would not ignore any offenses!
Ugh! When did weddings and births become fund drives? nm

Similar situation, my hubby drives 1 hr 45 mins to work from house and sm
he suggested 2 nights a week staying at a hotel that his company would pay for if the company apartment was full. I say company apartment "lightly" as it is a room above the office and just has bed, AC window unit. At first I was hesitant but then I drove it one way in the morning and again in 5 o'clock traffic and said you must be nuts! He gets up at 4:30 am to be at work by 6:30.
How long have you noticed your hard drives lasts when you are on the computer 24/7. My computer is
doing odd things and it looked like the hard drive is getting bad.  It is about 2-1/2 years old.  Actually the whole computer is about 2-1/2 years old.
