I work in a dental office. Why did'nt Dental Dental
cover your crowns. If they were supposed to be in bad shape, I think they would have covered part of it. I do not think your teeth could get in that kind of shape, if they are checking and x-raying them all the time. I would not have faith in them either.
Anyone work in a dental office? Dental rant. SM

I have been going to the same dental office (father and daughter dentists),  for over ten years.   It is a private office, not a clinic.  I have Delta Dental PPO.

There has never been a problem.  I get my teeth cleaned every three months.  I get x-rays taken twice a year and the dentist checks my teeth after each cleaning. Sounds good, right?

So at my last cleaning in January, I was told my teeth were in terrible shape and I needed five crowns placed.  I then was subjected to a very hard sales pitch for these crowns, accompanied by gory videos of rotten teeth, with statements like "these could be YOUR teeth".   They also went on to say that insurance will not cover this and I will have to pay out of pocket.  The conservative price was $5000.

Well, I decided to have three crowns done. I paid $1000, (my tax refund), insurance did pay $1000 and I just paid another $600 out of pocket.

I have lost complete faith in this office.  Why would I go there every three months, only to be told I need work that someone would need if they hadn't seen a dentist in 10 or more years?

Was I taken? I have no faith in them at all now.

Does he have tools? I never
would have loaned out my DH's tools. Tell DH to get your rolling pin back and then hit him over the head with it!
Stick and stone...seriously! sm
My dad worked with a guy who named his boys stick and stone. Didn't believe him until one day I was working at a shoestore and was fitting some kids for their shoes and mom said, "stick and stone, get over here and sit down!" I about died! I had to run to the back room real quick to hide my laughter.
The first stone, anonymissy.
Get spayed?? For goodness' sake. Your vitriol must leave the constant taste of caca in your mouth. I don't envy you.

This all happened almost 40 years ago. I'd say I've forgiven myself, but I have never thought--& still don't think--I had anything to be forgiven for. I made a difficult decision. Period. I'm just sharing my experience, but I certainly didn't do it so that some board-lurking wack job with her own very serious self-forgiveness issues could flame me.

I always say, when people have such an extreme reaction it's coming out of their own pain. Whatever it is, you should get therapy or something, before it totally takes you over, although from the sound of it, it sounds like it's probably too late for that.

This was my experience, for better or for worse. I think anyone who can give a child up for adoption is absolute saint. Abortion is not easy, but I'll be the first to guess that giving up a child is much, much harder.

But I was not that person then. I was an out-of-control teenager. Speculating on how I would have behaved if I'd known then what I know now is pointless. At the time I knew nothing. The reality of the situation did not really touch me then, other than the fear of disruption of my life. I would imagine a lot of teenagers who get pregnant feel the same way, & one of the reasons I'm saying all this is so that if anyone comes into contact with such a girl, you can have a perspective on what she might be thinking. Or not thinking, as the case may be.

So, anonymissy, to answer your questions, I guess you would call them:
1. You need to tell me what a troll is, so I can tell you if I am one or not.

2. I'm not a liar, I really did have 4 abortions over my entire reproductive life, which is now over. I did not use abortions as birth control, in the sense that I did not plan any of the pregnancies, and for 2 of them I was actually on BC - once with an IUD and once with a diaphragm. The other 2 times I gambled & lost, but that kind of heat-of-passion decision making has been happening since the beginning of time, & to people a lot more mature than I was then.

3.Dysfunctional...hmmm. Well, let's see. Like I said, I'm not a liar. When I read a post by someone who is trying to make an honest statement on a board, who is making herself vulnerable by giving up very personal information in the hopes that someone in a similar situation or worse, & who has not been able to forgive herself, can maybe do that -- when I read such a post I don't pour gasoline on that person & light them on fire. I suppose you could say that all young, hormone-addled teenagers are dysfunctional, so in that sense I suppose you are right. But now? No.

As for you, I would say you really ARE dysfunctional. I think the venom with which you responded to my post says everything anyone needs to know about you. That there is something you need to punish yourself for, regardless of your posts to the contrary, & you that are projecting that punishment onto someone else; burning yourself in effigy, sort of.

Saaay laaaa veeeee, man. It takes all kinds.

p.s. to "first stone"
Would I do it again? Yes, I would. I never wanted children & am glad I don't have them now.

If I had felt or known then what I think and feel now, would I have had a kid and given it up? No, I wouldn't have. Even though I have a huge amount of respect for someone who can do this, it's just not my path.

Would I have gotten "spayed"? No, I wouldn't have. Not at 16, not even at 20. At the time I still thought I might change my mind in my 30s or whenever, but as it turned out, I never did.
tomb stone writings

I'm so sorry about your loss...it takes a "tincture of time" to adjust to it.

This is an inscription that I love: "Beneath this stone does lie, a beauty that will never die".

Hang tough friend, just take it a day at a time.

I like my pizza stone and can opener the best.
Any stone is nice if you bake.  The items I use and LOVE the most are their spatulas.  Everything is kinda pricey.  They do have things in all price ranges though.  I also like their cook books.  I have never been to a power party!  Have fun.
Stone Care International
I also have corian and this company Stone Care International has stuff specifically for corian. They have a deep cleaner for weekly cleaning and an everyday cleaner.

My husband had a kidney stone
and as the doctor was explaining to me what they found and where it was and what they would do I made a comment that I understand completely and then asked a question. I don't remember the question but it included a medical term and the doctor said to me "oh, do you have medical experience?" and I told him that I was an MT who transcribes acute care. The doctor then laughed and said that by the looks of his reports that come back that he didn't think MTs had any medical experience and were just typing.

Yes, irritated me as well. I dont' know why people think we don't understand what we transcribe. Understanding is a huge part of the job.
Does anyone know where to look for poems or sayings to put on a grave stone? sm
Unfortunately, my brother and I have to go pick one out for our mother and I would like to find a nice poem or saying about mothers to put on it. Anyone with any ideas?
Stone Phillips' sister is a radiologist where I work sm
She looks just like him, too!
My kids have twins in their class named Steel and Stone. sm
Not quite as bad as stick and stone but pretty dang hokey if you ask me.
Is the Turning Stone? If so, LOVE and miss that place. LinK, if I ever sm
get back home (from Rome, NY), let us get together! You sound like a lot of fun! I've been looking at places to stay and visit for a while now - didn't realize Turning Stone had a lodge now? When I lived there (mid-90s) they didn't have it then.

Boy, do I miss upstate NY and snow. Haven't seen snow in YEARS. I'm in GA now. Have fun!!!!!
dental work

My husband now carries our insurance since I came home to work.  I just found out that I don't have any type of dental plan, and I really need some dental work done.  I have 3 kids and only work part time, so I obviously can't afford to pay out of pocket.  Please help!!!

Used to be a dental assistant

and we would advise patient's of the same thing. Use a topical anesthetic to give you some relief and numb the area. As for the heat or cold it all depends on what is causing the toothache to begin with. If you have an abscessed tooth patient's have said heat to the area usually works best but if it's because you have an infected tooth in need of a root canal your tooth may have increased sensitivity to the heat or cold. Have you tried calling your dentist to see if maybe he can prescribe you something for the pain until he can get you in?

Dental Implants

I don't know much about these and really don't know how I feel about them. Has anyone had any dental implants?

Dental cleaning

What is the average cost these days for teeth cleaning (without insurance)?  I suppose they include x-rays as well.  I know the cost can vary but am trying to get an idea of the cost without insurance.  My son and I have dental insurance but my husband does not so he needs an estimate.  I think the dental office my son goes to is a bit pricey; however, with the dental insurance I have not bothered to comparison shop the prices.

Thanks.

Need pediatric dental help ASAP please!!
My 7-year-olds silver cap just came off one of his teeth (all in one piece).  Do I just wait until Monday to call the dentist.  What do I do???  (his tooth underneath it looks awful)!!
It was the dental hygienist in my case, SM
She was a dark haired beauty and so sweet. I met a man and turned him onto my dentist. He had teeth cleaned often due to retracting gums. In my cleaning sessions, she talked on about her life and the misfortunes. I talked with my now husband about it one night and he was able to give me further information about a broken relationship, financial hardship, her kids and her x husband. The next day, I called the office and told the office manager that she had crossed the line. I then changed dentists, for both of us.

Don't understimate what women will do when they see a good man. Cut it at the bud.

And 500 is way too much - for one thing, I'd be feeling indebted to a person who gave me that much. And you do not want that.

Change hair stylists and become a bit distant so your husband doesn't worry about her as she sounds like she is going to have problems which require help over and over again.

I worked in a dental office for years
and if you're going there religiously every three months and they never before said anything about your teeth being in disrepair, then something is NOT right there.  I would run screaming and get another opinion.  I worked for a very unscrupulous man (oh, don't get me started!), and I know the tricks people like that use.  He had to make his Mercedes payment, and the Range Rover payment for his 16-year-old, among his other payments, and would pull all kinds of things on his patients.  They're not all trustworthy out there, and your story sounds highly suspicious, because if your teeth are being taken care of and watched every three months, trouble should be spotted long before it turns into the need for a crown.  Please see someone else.  Don't tell them what your dentist said, and see if they say the same thing.  Just go in for a cleaning and x-rays and see if the new dentist mentions the need for all those crowns.  And if you do actually need them, then your dentist is one of those who knows about a cavity and lets it go to where you need a crown.  Either way, I would NOT go back...

Did anyone ever have a dental implant for a front tooth and wish to say what
they thought about the whole process with wearing a flipper, etc. until the implant.
dental procedure: root planing
dentist says i need this because of moderate periodontal disease.  $200 a quadrant x4 = $800 for what sounds like a horrible, bloody procedure.  they say they only do two quadrants at a time.  does anyone know anything about this, had it done?  please let me know what to expect.... thanxabuncha

Ok..I found part of the article from Tricare Dental
The most profound sentence for us was, "only one-half the number of persons diagnosed with oral cancer are alive five years after the diagnosis." The article can be found at http://www.tricaredentalprogram.com/tdptws/dentalhealth/your_tdp/00009.jsp.

Also, you only have to be 18 to buy tobacco products. So, your son is old enough to buy this stuff. Anyway, hope this helps, but as I'm sure you know, 18 y/o boys think they're invincible and really don't like to listen to their parents. Hopefully he'll at least read all the information and make the best decision and quit before it can do any harm. Good luck!
Nutri-Dent edible dental chews..sm
I have two miniature schnauzers.  I give them a Nutri-Dent dental chew 2-3 times a week.  My vet commented that whatever I was using on their teeth was great, keep it up.  It's worth a try for you.  Wal-Mart carries them once in a blue moon, but usually not the size I need.  I order mine from PetCareRX.com.
I just took a college tour with my daughter and they mentioned a dental clinic sm
with students that are studying to be dentists. I think universities with dental schools have dental clinics that are open to the public. I'm not sure what they charge, but it might be something to look into.
