Anyone work in a dental office? Dental rant. SM

I have been going to the same dental office (father and daughter dentists), for over ten years. It is a private office, not a clinic. I have Delta Dental PPO.
There has never been a problem. I get my teeth cleaned every three months. I get x-rays taken twice a year and the dentist checks my teeth after each cleaning. Sounds good, right?
So at my last cleaning in January, I was told my teeth were in terrible shape and I needed five crowns placed. I then was subjected to a very hard sales pitch for these crowns, accompanied by gory videos of rotten teeth, with statements like "these could be YOUR teeth". They also went on to say that insurance will not cover this and I will have to pay out of pocket. The conservative price was $5000.
Well, I decided to have three crowns done. I paid $1000, (my tax refund), insurance did pay $1000 and I just paid another $600 out of pocket.
I have lost complete faith in this office. Why would I go there every three months, only to be told I need work that someone would need if they hadn't seen a dentist in 10 or more years?
Was I taken? I have no faith in them at all now.

I work in a dental office. Why did'nt Dental Dental
cover your crowns. If they were supposed to be in bad shape, I think they would have covered part of it. I do not think your teeth could get in that kind of shape, if they are checking and x-raying them all the time. I would not have faith in them either.
Expensive dental care/no dental insurance. nm

I worked in a dental office for years
and if you're going there religiously every three months and they never before said anything about your teeth being in disrepair, then something is NOT right there. I would run screaming and get another opinion. I worked for a very unscrupulous man (oh, don't get me started!), and I know the tricks people like that use. He had to make his Mercedes payment, and the Range Rover payment for his 16-year-old, among his other payments, and would pull all kinds of things on his patients. They're not all trustworthy out there, and your story sounds highly suspicious, because if your teeth are being taken care of and watched every three months, trouble should be spotted long before it turns into the need for a crown. Please see someone else. Don't tell them what your dentist said, and see if they say the same thing. Just go in for a cleaning and x-rays and see if the new dentist mentions the need for all those crowns. And if you do actually need them, then your dentist is one of those who knows about a cavity and lets it go to where you need a crown. Either way, I would NOT go back...
dental work
My husband now carries our insurance since I came home to work. I just found out that I don't have any type of dental plan, and I really need some dental work done. I have 3 kids and only work part time, so I obviously can't afford to pay out of pocket. Please help!!!
Used to be a dental assistant
and we would advise patient's of the same thing. Use a topical anesthetic to give you some relief and numb the area. As for the heat or cold it all depends on what is causing the toothache to begin with. If you have an abscessed tooth patient's have said heat to the area usually works best but if it's because you have an infected tooth in need of a root canal your tooth may have increased sensitivity to the heat or cold. Have you tried calling your dentist to see if maybe he can prescribe you something for the pain until he can get you in?
Dental Implants
I don't know much about these and really don't know how I feel about them. Has anyone had any dental implants?
Dental cleaning
What is the average cost these days for teeth cleaning (without insurance)? I suppose they include x-rays as well. I know the cost can vary but am trying to get an idea of the cost without insurance. My son and I have dental insurance but my husband does not so he needs an estimate. I think the dental office my son goes to is a bit pricey; however, with the dental insurance I have not bothered to comparison shop the prices.
Thanks.
Need pediatric dental help ASAP please!!
My 7-year-olds silver cap just came off one of his teeth (all in one piece). Do I just wait until Monday to call the dentist. What do I do??? (his tooth underneath it looks awful)!!
It was the dental hygienist in my case, SM
She was a dark haired beauty and so sweet. I met a man and turned him onto my dentist. He had teeth cleaned often due to retracting gums. In my cleaning sessions, she talked on about her life and the misfortunes. I talked with my now husband about it one night and he was able to give me further information about a broken relationship, financial hardship, her kids and her x husband. The next day, I called the office and told the office manager that she had crossed the line. I then changed dentists, for both of us.
Don't understimate what women will do when they see a good man. Cut it at the bud.
And 500 is way too much - for one thing, I'd be feeling indebted to a person who gave me that much. And you do not want that.
Change hair stylists and become a bit distant so your husband doesn't worry about her as she sounds like she is going to have problems which require help over and over again.

Did anyone ever have a dental implant for a front tooth and wish to say what
they thought about the whole process with wearing a flipper, etc. until the implant.
dental procedure: root planing
dentist says i need this because of moderate periodontal disease. $200 a quadrant x4 = $800 for what sounds like a horrible, bloody procedure. they say they only do two quadrants at a time. does anyone know anything about this, had it done? please let me know what to expect.... thanxabuncha

Ok..I found part of the article from Tricare Dental
The most profound sentence for us was, "only one-half the number of persons diagnosed with oral cancer are alive five years after the diagnosis." The article can be found at http://www.tricaredentalprogram.com/tdptws/dentalhealth/your_tdp/00009.jsp.
Also, you only have to be 18 to buy tobacco products. So, your son is old enough to buy this stuff. Anyway, hope this helps, but as I'm sure you know, 18 y/o boys think they're invincible and really don't like to listen to their parents. Hopefully he'll at least read all the information and make the best decision and quit before it can do any harm. Good luck!
Nutri-Dent edible dental chews..sm
I have two miniature schnauzers. I give them a Nutri-Dent dental chew 2-3 times a week. My vet commented that whatever I was using on their teeth was great, keep it up. It's worth a try for you. Wal-Mart carries them once in a blue moon, but usually not the size I need. I order mine from PetCareRX.com.
I just took a college tour with my daughter and they mentioned a dental clinic sm
with students that are studying to be dentists. I think universities with dental schools have dental clinics that are open to the public. I'm not sure what they charge, but it might be something to look into.
Yes, and now that I work in an office,
other men act like I'm attractive and they'd be interested, so its really irritating to go home and be complimented, but it's empty words with no follow through. I think he might be ashamed of his body because he's overweight, but that's no reason to punish me.
I work in an ophthalmologist's office.
I am not a doctor, but have seen people come in with the same symptoms... dx'd with ophthalmic migraine. It can happen repeatedly with/without headache. Usually lasts 20 to 30 mins, one eye.. There is lots of info if you Google ophthalmic migraine.

My little rant...
I just typed a report on a child with fetal alcohol syndrome who just had 9 teeth pulled, due to dental caries. She is still with her mother. If abusing the baby before she was born--and I do think it is abuse--wasn't enough, this mother is allowed to neglect her into having surgery to remove half of her teeth. What bothers me the most is that caring parents lose their children for spanking, while mothers like this are given chance after chance. If you can't quite drinking while you are pregnant, I think that you should never get to take that baby home. There are plenty of people who want children and cannot conceive. Why do people get chance after chance, all the while screwing up their kids even more?
Sorry about my rant - sm
Obvioulsy I don't have such great memories of those years, but I think a lot of it depended on where you lived. Small town costal Oregon at that time was horrible. They had shut down most of the logging, the mills, fishing, etc. I believe that the west coast was harder hit than the rest of the country from what I've read.
We survived and we will survive today as well - we'll never be able to retire, but we'll survive!
Now the 60's I remember fondly, although I was a little young to be involved in all the strife going on at the time. The 70's were decent. For my family the 90s were the best. Oh heck, I think I was really meant to have been born about 1400 or something. LOL
I was on a rant and about a mess....
and yelled 'pick up your toys and put them away, dammit!"
She - then 4 - started to do so, but turned back and looked me right in the eye and said,
"don't call me dammit!"
had to laugh.
This old lady has to rant about a rather SM
unimportant detail noted on AOL, among all the other unimportant details. I know this isn't important, people might mock me, call me names, say haven't I got more important things to worry about, what with our economy in trouble, violence in the Middle East, that crazy woman with the 14 babies, but....
THEY ARE REMAKING BONNIE AND CLYDE, ONLY ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER MADE, AND THEY ARE MAKING IT WITH HILARY DUFF AS BONNIE!!!!! HILARY DUFF!!!!!!
I suppose Clyde will be played by Justin Timberlake, although from what I have seen from Justin, that might not be bad choice.
Rant about survey takers. sm
My electric bill is sky high, so I called the electric company to obtain a free survey and to ask questions to help lower the bill. A nice gentleman came to my home and offered good advice.
Today, I received a phone call asking about my experience with their service. I was happy with the service and told them that, however, it was a survey taker and every minute portion of my experience from requesting this service to practically what the guy was wearing was asked of me. I was on the phone for ten minutes, asking when this survey would end, and she said a few more questions, until it was 15 minutes and I hung up on her. I told her several times I was working and could not speak for long. I just needed to rant.
pinewood derby races - rant
My son was in a pinewood derby race at church. There is so much for kids to learn about the car design, ect.
Here is my rant. Why don't they have rules about what the fathers can/can't help with! The cars that the father's obviously did won first place for every single grade. It was ridiculous I've never seen so many 8-year-old boys in tears. I think these men are sick that winning against a kid gets them off.
Except for sawing the car and nailing the axels it should be hands off for the dad! It was so obvious between a car that a man designed/traced and painted vs. a kid. They even had an adult category the men could have entered into.
Has anyone experienced this?
rant! who's owed the most child support?
mine is currently in arrears in the amount of $23,775 --- he inherited MILLIONS when his father died -- he refuses to work, he's never paid me a dime.... my case worker is attempting to put a lien on his $1/2-million home in Vegas.. Blessed with this child, but sure would like some support, maybe not have to work two jobs...
I'm so glad you're all here for ranting.... thanks, friends.
You did your rant, laughed your ___ off and wrote off your Mom and Grandmom!
You have a lot to learn. When they are dead, you will realize it didn't really mean a thing except that you "wrote them off" and laughed your A@@ off at any suggestion that you should make peace with your Mom at Christmas. You only have one Mom, you came from her loins, no one else's. Too bad you can't realize how wrong you are to judge. No one said you have to see her every day but she's a human being and human beings make mistakes. Glad you are perfect and your kid is perfect. Hope you always remain "perfect." Merry Christmas! Sounds like you have a lot of people backing you up, so you think you're right in ditching your Mom and Grandmom. People in my family have done horrible things to me but I rise above it, send them a Christmas card and wish them a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. I am not God. Perhaps you don't see your Mom's tears, but believe me, one day you will be sorry and it will be too late. Get a heart! You are telling your son in effect, "These are bad people, write them off!" Bad advice methinks. You are hearing only what you want to hear, so go ahead and laugh your a@@ off if it makes you happy. Watch out you are not that "Mom" one day, you've set the scene and have written the script, to "write Moms off."
My rant: I agree cheating on one's spouse is never SM
acceptable. The one thing that REALLY bothers me, is that men claim that they have to cheat, since sex with their wives is no longer exciting and that their wife won't do what paid companions will and my thought is always the same "Did you ASK her?". If they ask nicely, I'm sure loving wives would be more than willing to comply. Within reason, of course.
Braces...Warning...there's a rant a'commin
I HATE THEM!!! I'm about to call the orthodontist and tell him I've given up, my teeth are just fine now and I WANT THEM OFF!!! I'm so sick of worrying about staining my teeth. I've become "obsessive" about brushing. I hate the fact that I'm constantly "tonguing" them and worried about having stuff stuck in them. I don't smile anymore. I don't like to go in public. HATE pictures cuz I don't smile with my teeth and I look like a moron when I smile with my mouth shut. I miss my baby carrots and broccoli. Sandwiches are absolutely impossible. Just all in all a horrible experience and I wish I never would have gotten them...
Sorry and thank you for your time...lol
Yes - does not work! Hoax if you ask me. MetaboLife doesn't work either.
The only thing that works for me is exercise and eating correctly! No quick fix, unfortunately.
At the vet office I'm at...
We either take care of sending the pet to be cremated or the owner can pick up the body to bury/dispose of as they see fit. I personally disposed of two of the kittens that died while I was fostering them and the last one that died the vet offered to give me the body to bury where I wanted or cremate if I chose. I would give your vet office a call and see what their policy is.
My first job was in an office where everyone
smoked except me! It was horrible! Grew up with a smoking parent, too - so had to breathe it in the car. It was on planes, busses, trains, and in restaurants. There was no such thing as non-smoking motel rooms or airports, and even in junior high and high school, where you weren't allowed to smoke, everyone still did it in the bathrooms.
YUCKKKKKKK !!!
office
i have an office in one of the spare bedrooms and i hate it. i tend to tote the laptop out to the living room couch and watch judge judy while i type. not even sure why i have an office at all!
Does anyone not have an office?
Not really office but does anyone not have clutter. Just a computer and a notebook? I'm going to be moving my office shortly to another room in the house and I'm looking around thinking "WHY do I have all this crap?" It is like I am at a real work environment with other employees, etc. Stacks of busness cards, papers, sticky notes, pcitures of family, funnies, cup full of pens, candy dish, lotion, card s and pictures from my family, little trinkets and doodads, etc. Do I really need anything more than my equipment, a pen, and a notebook?
Go with her to SS office, I think at most SM
you have to take a number or sign in, they will call you up, explain to them that your mom did not understand she had to take Part B or that your dad's insurance would drop her when she became eligible. You will have to sit back down for a short time, then you will be called to speak one-on-one with a SS worker, explain the same thing.
I had to do this with my mother - she had some misunderstanding of Part B and declined it. She didn't know what she was doing. We are only talking a matter of months before I found out in this case, but they did back her effective date up to the date she became eligible and all Part B claims were then paid.
Try going to the office - it can't hurt. It took about a morning of our time, but the people there were very kind about the situation and it was well worth the 3 hours we were there to get things resolved.
Run to the post office????
I think we're talking a phone call type of RSVP/an informal party invite. But are you now saying you don't respond to wedding invitations and the like either???? Just curious :)
When I worked in an MD's office,
this was discussed a lot. We identified 3 factors:
1. The rare but memorable mothball smell where people put on their best duds to see the MD, but they are from 1952, and have been stored in mothballs.
2. Corn starch powder, which has a very musty smell to my nose.
3. Rose water perfume. Everybody in the office would be nauseated when one of these ladies would come in.
LOL-your office looks just like mine sm
A conglomeration of everything but must make room for those babies! By the way, your dogs are gorgeous and I LOVE THAT TRUNK! Where did you get it? It would look just perfect in my front room.
wow that's wonderful. Maybe if we can get a dem in office
:)
Different places when no office available
I have been in just about every room of my house at one time or another. I started out working in the kitchen years ago because I had dialup and the apartment I lived in had only a phone jack there. The kitchen was my favorite because it was away from all the noise--that was when the kids were smaller, though.
I have had a desk in the bedroom before. It was handy when the kids were at school or hubby was home to take care of them, otherwise it was a pain because it was in the back of the house and if they needed something I had to get up from my desk.
The family room is okay, unless you have really loud family like mine. My kids must be deaf sometimes, I swear. Oh yeah and they argue in there over the TV the PlayStation, etc. However, you can deal with some of that from the desk without having to get up. It is a fair trade most of the time.
I had two different mobile setups over the years. One was laptop which was okay, but before WiFi, so expensive. The second, I had a desk on wheels that had everything I needed. I could roll it out to the back porch and sit there to work while the youngest was out playing. This was good for mild weather. Be forewarned, if it is really hot outside where you are, you may have PC problems. I used to have one that would overheat and shut itself off. Ugh!!. Oh, BTW, direct sunlight is bad if you have a laptop or plasma screen, so make sure you have shade!
I currently have my own "little room" for now which basically is the size of a really huge walk-in closet with a window and a door. I shut the door when the kids are home because the words "please be quiet, I cannot hear when you are yelling at eachother" apparently are not in teenager-ese.
Hope this was helpful!
Maybe the office has changed their
policy and will not just renew RXs without an exam.
At the doctor's office yes,
Everywhere else, no. I get frustrated when people don't come with a rewind button... ;)
What questions should I ask a potential new PCP's office? sm
We have an HMO, and I really need to stop procrastinating and find a primary care doctor closer to where my husband and I live now. (We've moved about 1-1/2 hours away from where we used to live.)
We rarely have to go to the doctor, but I do take daily prescription medications. We've had our current PCP for about the last 10 years, so it's been a long time since I had to pick a new doctor.
I've narrowed it down to about 5 doctors in the area here and plan to call and ask them some questions before contacting my insurance co. to make the change (which takes a long time to take effect, so it's not something you want to do a bunch of times if you can help it.)
The first thing I'll ask is if they are still taking new patients. (Obviously need to ask them that question!)
After that, I'll ask what their hours are and things like that, but does anyone have any suggestions for me as far as other questions to ask, or any other advice?
TIA, guys. I know you'll have some great ideas and things I might not think of.
Was thinking he is just one of the office players. do not take it seriously.
x
I agree about the office politics...
and that is a definite plus about being at home. I like the fact that I don't HAVE to talk to anyone if I don't feel like it (unlike being in an office), but my schedule gives me the freedom to socialize with my friends and family when we want to get together and also be active in my church during the week.
They make the best office companions! nm
