which brand they went with. I cant find anything to compare reliable heat pumps for some reason. Mine will need replacing soon and I dont want to deal with a lot of problems with the cost of heat pumps today.

That reminds me of this place up in Calistoga, CA. A family is lucky enough to have a real, live, erupting GEYSER in their backyard! It erupts about every hour or so, so they named it 'Old Faithful', just like the big one in Yellowstone. This one is no major erupter, just spritzes once an hour. Bit it's still pretty neat. The lady told me it also heats their home and their hot water for showers, etc., and they charge people a couple bucks to come in and see it, so it gives them a steady income, as well.

I have one installed on my laptop because of distrusting my husband b/c of some things that have happened. Mine is called WinSpy and it is a free one. I know that with this one and another I have used, in order to access it, you have certain hotkeys to press which pulls it up for you. B/c it is spying, it does not show up in the programs or on the desktop, it just runs quietly in the background. B/c mine is a free version, down in the system tray it shows an icon. My hubby never looks there so I have nothing to worry about. Look in the system tray to see if you can see anything. If it is a program that he paid for, it is probably undetectable. You might want to pull up the task manager and look under processes to see if anything looks suspicous there.
Friend is a plummer and installed a
commercial toilet.. you know the ones that sound like the roar of a jet engine...the kind you have to make sure your purse or keys or a small child are not nearby in the public restroom or they might get sucked away??? Always felt sorry for his little ones when they were potty training.. but it did a great job on getting the business done!

Actually, my dog really is in heat! This is her second time. She's still a pup at about 1-1/2 years old (Golden Retriever). The first time she went into heat it was summer and we could keep her mostly outside so as not to mess up the house. Wouldn't you know it, she went into heat right at the beginning of our rainstorm here (in California) that is supposed to last a few days. My question is, I know that there are doggy kotex pads you can strap on them, but do they really work? My dog loves to chew and she will tear apart a new dog toy in a matter of minutes. I don't want to waste my money if she is just going to chew the pad off. Anyone have any experience here?

Don't use heat on that area because you can't see what's going on in there. Not to scare you, but if that puppy is getting close to rupturing, I think the heat might make it even worse.
C'mon, go to the ER. A nasty case of perotinitis will keep you under the weather and out of work and be far more costly in the long-run than just going to the ER now.
I'm worried about you, and I'm sure many others of us are as well. PLEASE GO TO THE ER FOR THIS AND DO NOT PUT IT OFF.

Heat stroke occurs when a pet has an extremely high body temperature, usually more than 41 degrees C (106 degrees F). Signs include rapid panting, warm dry skin, bright red gums, vomiting, and an anxious expression or staring appearance. Collapse, coma and death follow shortly thereafter. An animal with heat stroke must have its body temperature reduced quickly. Most effective is immediate immersion in a cold water. If unavailable, hosing it down with a garden hose may be effective. Ice packs should not be used because overcooling often occurs. The skin should be massaged gently, and the legs flexed frequently to encourage blood circulation. While this is being done, it is essential that the pet be transported to a veterinary hospital as quickly as possible.
Heat stroke can occur surprisingly fast, even when animals are left for only short periods of time in cars with the windows partially rolled down. Since prevention still remains the best alternative, animals are best not left alone in unattended cars or in a yard without shade and water in warm weather.

Nerve pain I think does better with heat. When I broke my foot and had nerve damage, I couldn't even touch my foot with ice. I haven't had a toothache in a long time (knock on wood), but my guess would be heat.

A woodstove is all we have for heat too.
I just love that silly little thing. NOTHING takes the chill out of the bones better. We would be so screwed without it--oil is officially out of our budget and haven't filled the tank in over 2 years now. In fact, most people around here heat with wood in some form or another...either wood stoves, pellet stoves, or outdoor wood boilers. I'm looking forward to getting 2 more cords of firewood tomorrow that will need prompt stacking before more snow hits. Yep, wood...warms ya at least twice!
Lots of people cook on them using dutch ovens. I've heard fantastic stories of people who cook baked beans and stews/potroasts all day on them...imagine coming home to a hot meal like that! Mmmm.... I've personally never tried it because I don't have anyone to show me how. I think it's an artform that has to be handed down through the generations or something.
The heat of anger...
Some people just get so angry that they say what comes to the top of their head at the time, true or not. Others lose their ability to empathise in anger. Either of those, I can deal with (so long as it stays verbal only), and that's what DD experiences when she's "losing it". As I said, she has some pretty serious PTSD issues to deal with, so we may or may not put up with it if they weren't there. They are, so I don't know the other side of the coin. We can also joke around with things that might hurt feelings or be embarrasing, so long as they are not done in an attempt to hurt those feelings (sometimes the truth DOES hurt). Even with her issues, we do not tolerate being cruel and hurtful just to be cruel and hurtful or anything physical beyond slamming doors, and there is a numerical limit to how many, and if the pictures rattle, it's too hard. We also have a hard and fast rule that all people are allowed to "respond in kind" because none of us are superhuman, especially when angry.
Personally, I think the world was a better place when we weren't so concerned about hurting somebody's feelings - back when we could hold a normal and sometimes emotional conversation about differing viewpoints. Of course, that was back when people were responsible for their own feelings instead of making everybody else responsible for them.
My 2 females were in heat last week
and were jumping on each others backs and what is worse is they are mother and daughter!

We have two outdoor dogs and I want to be able to keep them warm at night - if we bring them inside in their crates they cry all night - and if we let them loose they go wild in the house. They love to run and play outside all day and are very loving and friendly and happy - but not indoor types of dogs. We have a barn they can go in at night but I still would like some type of heat for them. I am afraid they might chew the electrical heated mats. Anyone have ideas? Thanks

I live in Michigan and it gets COLD!!!. Not as cold as Wyoming, but I swear, sometimes....lol.
The only time the heat gets turned up any higher than 70 is on bath night. Then we also have a little propane heater we got from our local surplus store that helps in the bathroom.
In my office upstairs, I have an old heat lamp from our turtle tank that has a clamp type base and I have that clamped to the shelf over my keyboard. I have it aimed so it hits my hands and helps keep them warm. I figure if it works for our turtle, it will work for me. LOL.
We dress in layers too, even the 12 yo son. DH has some problems as he is diabetic, but Eddie Bauer Ragg wool socks are worth every penny you pay for them.
We do the plastic on the windows and we also spent some big bucks on plexi-glass and got two 45 x 64 pieces for our DR and KIT. We hold them in with double faced tape and then seal them with the same kind of tape they use on ductwork for trailers and RV's.
I agree with other posters too, get your thyroid checked. My doc told me that was one of the reasons for people being cold all the time.

what total i*d*i*o*t*s - don't they know an autopsy will prove them wrong. I hope they owners both get locked up and heavily fined to boot. My own dogs are out a lot but I am home and when it is too hot they are in. Neither has ever had heatstroke. They have plenty of shade (they go under the deck sometimes and lay in the dirt, nice and cool down there) and water when they are outside. My neighbor has a boxer and has to be real careful with her dog, she has had one attack of heatstroke already this summer. Luckily she knows what to do as it happened once last summer; but it comes on very quick with boxers since they have such short snouts. Let us know what happens to the owners.

we have 3 dogs and a cat that live in the carpeted area of the house, as well as 4 people in the house, so I'm sure you can imagine the beating our carpet takes. I love this carpet cleaner because it has an easily removable plate over where the yucky water, animal hairs, etc. is sucked up and it's easy to clear it. Prior to this unit I had a Bissel heat steam cleaner that worked great except it would jam easily with pet hair and was harder to clean the jams between the layers of the cleaner. My sister now has that cleaner as they only have 1 small dog so the pet hairs aren't a major problem for them to deal with.
The unit I have sells at Walmart for $136 online is what I'm seeing now. It also has a collapsable handle which makes it easy to store.
Consumer Reports a few months ago rated the home carpet shampooers and found that they usually do as good if not better than RugDoctor or professional cleaners. If you have stains on your carpet there are pre-treaters you can use and oftentimes get them up, depending on how long the stain has been there and what the stain is. If I ever got a significant stain on my carpet I would call the pros so they could work it out with their high powered chemicals.
We clean our carpets every other month and it's amazing the dirt the cleaners pull out of the carpet. We vacuum every couple of days but that never gets as deep as the crud gets from everyday walking on it.
Another beauty of buying a carpet cleaner is the cost. After using it about 3-4 times it's paid for itself when you look at the rental fees for other cleaners, or what the cost of having a professional come out once runs.
To Backward Typist regarding Heat Surge
You wanted me to post when I got my first electric bill after having the heater. It was used for the full month of the billing cycle and my bill went down $10. I run it from around midnight until 8 or 9 am, sometimes I will run it more if I'm to lazy to start a fire and its not that cold outside.

Heat Surge electric fire place
I posted a few weeks ago about an article I saw for a Heat Surge electric fireplace with a wooden mantle built by the Amish.
Well I received it about 1.5 wks ago and I must say that it is absolutely beautiful! It is virtually noiseless, I seriously cannot hear it running at all. The brightness of the flame is adjustable and it has a low and a high heat setting. Best of all, it works! It does exactly what I had planned on and keeps the back of my house at a reasonable tempurature during the night so I do not have to worry about keeping the wood stove in the front going full blast all night.
The kids turned it on one evening when they were playing pool and they actually ended up turning it off because it got to warm.
So in my opinion, if you want something that is beautiful, well built, safe, and does provide more than enough heat for a room or two (mine is between the family room/kitchen which is all one long room) then it is absolutely worth the money.

At the GYN, and had a PAP/HPV test and I was told it is actually the male who spreads HPV, and yes, males will be tested in the future as well. I was also told that the thing of the future will be the HPV test replacing the Pap smear. Interesting.

about checking BC pills will probably draw a lot of fire about teenage sex, etc. However, my daughter's 17-year-old friend just had a baby 3 weeks ago. They had unprotected sex ONCE and she got pregnant. This was a very smart girl, ranked #1 in the class academically, churchgoer, not a drinker, no drugs. She is now missing out on her senior year and all the hoopla, taking classes at home to get her diploma, and raising a baby. It is too late to say she should have abstained, this is the reality of the situation and all concerned are making the best of it. So I say keep checking those BC pills, Mom!

I lived in a trailer park for 11 years, and to those who felt offense, I apologize. I know from first-hand experience that not everyone who lives in a trailer or a trailer park is trashy, but there are enough that someone created the saying. This neighbor happens to fit whatever criteria associated with the comment. I didn't live trashy when I lived in trailers, or any apartment I've been in, or in any home, either. It's an attitude and lifestyle that fits the comment...not everyone fits the comment.

I had a friend who was recently
selling his house and buying another one who stored some things in a storage facility. He opted not to get the insurance on it. It got broken into and his things stolen. He thought it was an inside job since it happened not too long after he rented the place and no other units were broken into.
You sign a contract though usually when you get a rental unit. I bet you somewhere on that contract it stated they are not liable. That is why they have the insurance you can purchase. Kind of a different scenario. Plus, if they had stored them properly and then they were stolen, no, it wouldn’t be their fault at all. There are situations where some things are out of people’s hands. They acted negligently though.
Whether the husband should have made a better decision is really beyond the point. They both knew that storing them near the street could mean them getting stolen and they did it anyways, but they didn't put their quads there.
That is my point, yeah the husband should have made a better decision, without a doubt, but they completely had no regard for her property, but did for their own property. I think that is pretty crappy.

I recently had a talk with my ex
I am the grandma, but I'm raising my granddaughter. Both parents have supervised visitation, but don't visit. My ex-husband, my GD's only grandfather, comes to get her every couple of months for a visit either alone with her or with his family. When this happens, she gets loaded down with presents. Even though there are other children in the family (although she is the youngest), none of the others are not treated equally. They all feel "so bad" for what has happened to my GD (granted it HAS been bad), but a special extended family dinner, huge bag of toys and candies for Valentine's Day was just too much for me. I asked him to please consider and talk to his family about these excesses. I reminded him that if he/they continued to treat her as "damaged," she will consider herself as being "damaged" and will always have a victim attitude and have the expectation that she should be treated differently. Once he thought about it from point of view, he understood better and things have cooled down. They still visit, but the gifts are fewer and not as over-the-top as before.
I think the same thing happens to children of divorces. The noncustodial family tries to over compensate for not being there as much as the custodial parent. I don't think your daughter needs to speak to the new "wife", but should try to have a reasonable and nonthreatening talk with her ex about always trying to think what is best for the child...not the adults. Every time I need to make a decision, I always ask myself "is this in her best interest." I've had to make some hard decisions, and this philosophy has made everything easier. Good luck.

with her new body, etc. So maybe instead of rehab, she went to a spa and got into shape, cause she does look great (at least on the magazine covers), but certainly desperately needs rehab and lots of therapy. Some things you should take into consideration. Did your cousin pass away far from home? My dad did. In fact, he was 1610 miles from home, on the road, with only my mother there with him. Options were limited.
Secondly, where is the family? All of us kids are on the west coast, my dad's family is in the mid west. As a matter of fact, my mom and dad had just sold their home here on the west coast and moved back to my dad's home town less than one month ago.
Third, who are you to decide what is the best for everyone? Our IMMEDIATE family has lost a father, husband, and grandfather. It is our choice and we are the ones who were informed of his wishes prior to his death, not our cousins, aunts, uncles, etc... How would you know?
I recently adopted a cat
from a rescue facility. She is a total sweetheart and so petite! I named her Tinkerbell. She shed like crazy at first but I think it was nerves because now a couple weeks later she has stopped shedding and seems to have settled in nicely, plays with my other cat (male) and loves my dog!
The only thing I've noticed is she is a bit gassy - not a lot but at times worse than others. My question is, is there something I can give her otc to help with her "problem"?

I have to get one soon, but I am so afraid to do it. I'm 43 and it will be my first one. I know I should just do it, but I keep putting it off. Just the thought of those 2 glass (?) plates smashing down on the booberoos keeps me from going through wtih it.
Can anyone who has had one recently help me out....How bad does it hurt? How far down do they smash them? Within one inch? Two inches? or just enough to get a good view?

I also have small boobage, and the more uncomfortable part is where the edges of the machine hit me during the strange contortions in order to get the boobage on the plate! The actual mammomash is more pressure than any pain, they only go far enough to get a good view and it's over pretty quickly.
One time I went they offered some sort of padding, which meant the plate wasn't quite as cold, but other than that no difference. The tech said that some women with sensitive breasts think they are awesome.
Just go! A couple minutes and it's done...and you really need this!
I recently learned that among those who are into -
New Age beliefs (which I'm not particularly), a personality type called "Indigo" exists. The 25 traits that make up an Indigo fit me and my authority-questioning ways to a T. It was quite a shock how exact the match was. Even more interesting was other people's descriptions of their lives, etc. as an Indigo. You might check that term out, cuz you just might be one, too!
According to the teachings of that group, Indigos often lead difficult lives because they spend much of them swimming against the current, but that they are ultimately the ones who will save the world.
Food for thought, when it comes to the differences between leaders, and followers!

We have had a few pits over the years and they were fine. DH brought one home from work recently that he bought for $200, 6-month old fully registered. We had 2 pigmy goats in their pen. Within 3 hours of him bringing this pit home, it attacked and killed one of our goats. My kiddos were trying to get it off the goat before I knew it, could have killed them but they don't understand the seriousness, they were only trying to save their pet. When I realized what was going on, DH and I both tried to get that dog away and neither one of us could until the goat was dead. DH took him and shot him. Fast forward about 2 months and now there is a wild pit I guess someone dropped off around here. I have seen it maybe twice. Killed my kiddos' kitten. Heard lots of commotion one night and went out to see the kitten in its mouth. Not the same pit but you could tell this dog was pit. DH wasn't here but we are trying to locate that dog and it will be disappear as well if I see it on my property again. They don't kill to eat, they kill just to kill. A few years ago, my BIL brought his pit to our family reunion. Had him on a chain and my DS at the time was maybe 6. He as petting him but had a bag of cheetos in his hands. The pit attacked him and almost ripped is ear off before we got him away and probably the only reason we got him away from the pit was because the pit was on a chain and saw it happen instantly. My kids will NEVER be allowed around any pit whatsoever. I say Amen to the representatives trying to pass this bill. I agree with them 100%. You never know when they will attack and I personally now believe it has nothing to do with how they were raised. It is in their genetics.

to avoid the arguments over money. He is not very happy about it, but I told him that after 18 years of being together I cannot have this argument any longer. My husband was a real mama's boy and he got whatever he wanted when he was a child (an ONLY child BTW). I came from a large family where I wore my brother's hand me downs and share clothes with my sisters. I have decided it is never going to change, but I needed to get that stress out of my life. I told him as long as you pay these bills, your leftover money is yours to do whatever it is you want to do. I am exhausted with this situation. I love my husband, the children adore him, so I am hoping this will help the stress in our marriage so we can stay together. I am sorry to stay this will only get worse. We don't even have a house, we rent an apartment for God's sake. He has no desire to even buy a house . . . I am going to try to qualify on my own. Wish my luck . . .

I recently realized
that I cannot compare my family to my husbands. It's hard when you grow up with such different values focusing on basic things like the importance of family and relationships.
MIL was recently in the hospital with heart concerns and they just dropped her off and went home. This is the 3rd time her husband has done this. Atleast this time he called the children. It is beyond me why one of her 3 boys (or their spouses) did not make the 15 minute drive to go sit with her. I would have but I was working and figure if out of all those people no one else could make the effort, why should I turn my life upside-down to do it. I can't imagine anyone in my family doing that, even if it was something routine or scheduled. My sister is the one who told me to let it go.
We went recently and stayed almost
100% of the time on the resort. The employees there did take people out on tours and we went with the employees and also took a boat ride over to the island (can't remember the name), but it was also a tour. Don't know I would run around by myself anywhere.
Whenever she makes a comment that you
suspect is made as a dig, try smiling pleasantly and saying, "What?" and waiting for a reply. If she is trying to be mean and trying to slip it by everybody else, she may not be willing to explain what she meant. If you do it every time, not quite hearing or understanding those comments, you will tire her out because her zing didn't hit.
